Daniel Radcliffe shares the range of emotions he's experiencing after his first Tony Awards nomination just three weeks before he closes 'Merrily We Roll Along.' Plus, he explains why he chooses to maintain his American accent the entire time he's in the theater.
00:00Congratulations. This is your first Tony nomination. You've been on Broadway before, but what words come to mind when you think about tonight and this stage in your career right now?
00:08I mean, like nerve-wracking is the word that comes to mind most, I guess. You know, it's quite an intimidating night, but also like a very exciting night. And yeah, and I'm just very, you know, honored to be here with Jonathan and Lindsay and for our show. It feels like a really special way to, we finish our run in like three weeks.
00:28So it's like, it's a really special way to end it. Yeah. I will be, I will be bereft to say goodbye when the time comes, but we're not there yet. And I'm living in denial until we are.
00:38I quickly wanted to say, I know there are a video of you going around on social media, kind of getting into your American accent and kind of staying into it all day. Is it easy for you to get in and out of it? Or do you have to prepare a little bit? Oh my God. You've had a long press.
00:50I just stay in the accent the whole time when I'm in the theater. It's actually weird. I go into it now almost a lot of the time when I see Jonathan and Lindsay, because I'm so used to doing it around them.
01:02I find when I, if I'm going back and forth between my own accent and American, there are little sounds that it just, they crop up and they're not quite as good in the American accent.
01:12So, but if I stay in the accent the whole time, they tend to kind of get ironed out. So yeah.
01:17And very quickly, anyone here tonight that you really want to collaborate with next?
01:22Oh my God. I mean, yes. Will Butler, but I don't know what the collaboration would be. I don't, I don't do music really other than this show.
01:29I don't know. I just want to keep collaborating with Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez. Let me just keep doing that forever, please.
