00:00Columnist questions FBI on Trump assassination attempt after online records emerge.
00:06New York Post columnist Miranda Devine has raised new concerns about the FBI's handling
00:10of the investigation into Thomas Crooks, the 20-year-old accused of attempting to assassinate
00:15President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Speaking to Fox News, Devine said the public was
00:21initially led to believe Crooks had little to no digital footprint and no identifiable motive.
00:26However, she now claims a source has revealed information from 17 online accounts linked
00:32to Crooks, contradicting earlier impressions. Crooks allegedly fired eight shots from a rooftop
00:37during Trump's rally on July 13, 2024, killing firefighter Corey Comparatore and injuring
00:43Trump and two others. Devine stated that newly obtained online records present a very different
00:49story from what the FBI presented to Congress, prompting her call for clearer explanations from
00:55federal officials. According to Devine, Crooks' online activity spanned platforms such as Google
01:00Play and DeviantArt, the latter associated with niche communities, including the furries subculture.
01:06She noted similarities to the case of Tyler Robinson, accused of killing conservative activist Charlie
01:12Kirk, who was also involved in similar online communities. Devine added that Crooks used they-them
01:18pronouns on some platforms. The columnist also pointed to what she described as a notable political shift.
01:23Early posts suggested Crooks was initially pro-Trump and critical of Democrats as a teenager.
01:30Over time, she said, his rhetoric became more extreme before eventually becoming violently anti-Trump.
01:37Devine cited the alleged influence of William Tepper's, described as a neo-Nazi figure connected
01:42to Crooks' radicalization, and noted Crooks' sudden disappearance from online activity in August 2020.
01:48Former FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbott earlier told Congress that Crooks expressed anti-immigration
01:54and anti-Semitic themes, but did not address any ideological shift. Devine argued the new information
02:00suggests the FBI either overlooked key material or chose not to disclose it, raising renewed scrutiny
02:07over the investigation and its transparency.
