00:00Bear necessity. Given his popularity in production, Amazons must re-sign Alonzo.
00:05Oh my gosh, without a doubt. Does a bear take a dump in the woods?
00:09Who cares what this is going to cost? Steve Cohen, open up that checkbook, baby, and get it done.
00:15And please, without the drama of last offseason, how come keeping homegrown talent is always a
00:21Mets problem? Not so much a Steve Cohen problem, but it's definitely a Mets problem. I think I'm
00:27with Don LaGreco on this one when he's questioning, when do we get to say, once a Mets, always a
00:33Mets, only a Mets, again? Not Mantle, not DiMaggio, not Vera, not Jeter, not Pettit, not Enduhar,
00:43not Torres, not Judge, not Byrd, Ed Cranepool. Somebody check this man's blood pressure after
00:52that one. And look, no disrespect and rest in peace to Ed Cranepool because this man gave
00:57the franchise 17 seasons. But what Don is trying to get at there is, that was back from 1962 to
01:041979. Since then, Seaver was traded to the Reds. And as for Doc and Darrell, well, you
01:10guys know, they went to the other side of town. Why have Mets fans had to share their all-time
01:16greats with other franchises? Now, is Pete Alonzo perfect? No. But here's a guy that through
01:21seven seasons gave you 264 home runs, 712 RBIs, and 951 hits. And that production is not taking
01:30a hit at all. He's coming off a season where he put up the fourth most home runs, the second
01:35most RBIs, and the most hits of his career. You cannot let a homegrown 38 home run and 126
01:44RBI fan favorite walk for nothing. And then you're going to replace him with who? Or replace
01:49him with what? That type of production is hard to find on a consistent basis. Open up the checkbook
01:56and play ball, Uncle Stevie, or get the thank you Pete tribute video ready. He's a bare necessity.
02:02So we're going to be covering the Pete Alonzo Mets contract negotiations all offseason. So head
02:08on over to newyorkpost.com slash sports for all things Mets.
