GRANDPARENTS FINALLY TIE THE KNOT AFTER 50 YEARS
WITH VID AND PIX
BY SHANNON PICKETT
This beautiful video shows the moment one elderly couple were finally given the chance to share their wedding vows after 50 years together.
Grace Bradley filmed her grandparents, Fernando and Onesima Barerra, finally having the wedding celebration they never had.
The footage shows the couple surrounded by the family they built over decades, which Grace revealed is built up of five children, 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Grace said: “My grandparents immigrated to the United States by themselves when they were just children."
Though they were legally married years earlier, they had never held a wedding ceremony.
The pair worked in domestic and outdoor jobs, Fernando as a landscaper and Onesima as a housekeeper.
The families for whom they worked sponsored their paperwork, and both later became American citizens.
Over the years they raised five children, and their family grew to include ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The ceremony took place in their daughter's garden, with family present.
The video captured the pure emotion on both of their faces as they finally get to show their love to each other in a way they hadn't be able to before.
Grace said: "Later, they both became American citizens.
"Five children, 10 grandchildren, and one great grandchild later, they had their wedding ceremony in my mom's backyard in front of their family that they created.
"They came alone out of survival.
"They met in the United States and got married legally but never had a wedding ceremony."
