00:00Make America great again.
00:02Donald Trump's attempt to make America great again
00:05could cost it its influence here in Asia,
00:07the world's fastest growing region.
00:10Bloomberg Economics says Asia is set to comprise
00:13almost 60% of the global economy by 2050.
00:17That's compared to just 11% for the US
00:19when measured in so-called purchasing power parity terms.
00:23And faced with Trump's belligerent tariffs,
00:26Asian nations are finding ways to work together
00:29to get around his America-first policies.
00:32Long-time rivals like India and China
00:34are trying to put aside a border dispute
00:36to deepen their cooperation.
00:39You also have China, Japan and South Korea
00:41pledging to boost trade ties even as their rivalries persist.
00:46In Southeast Asia, countries are finding themselves
00:49increasingly entwined economically with China.
00:52Chinese exports to the region have hit $541 billion in 2025 so far.
00:58Compared to $352 billion in the US.
01:02What we're seeing more recently is Asia buys Asia.
01:06We're seeing China manufacture in the world
01:09as opposed to for the world.
01:11This Asia buys Asia trend has supported a lot of intra-Asia,
01:16the wider Asia, Asia Middle East,
01:17supported a lot of trade within this region.
01:20Even on its own, China remains the world's manufacturing powerhouse
01:23and is quickly catching up to the US in the AI race as well.
01:28Working in America's favor though
01:30is that there's kind of an automatic stabilizer built in.
01:33The more China's might rises in the region,
01:36the more its neighbors may continue to seek US support
01:39as a counterbalance.
01:40wanted to go first.
01:42Well, yes.
01:44I'm good to see you next time.
