00:00The MMDA's waterways cleaning campaign took to Mandaluyong City today for some serious de-clogging and dredging of the city's Bohangan Creek.
00:08But the MMDA cleaning crew was not alone, with LGU officials and personnel lending a hand to show their community spirit, which I covered in this report.
00:18Despite the rain, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, or MMDA, personnel continued their extensive cleanup operations at Bohangan Creek in Mandaluyong.
00:27This is part of the agency's Bayanihan Sa Estero program, which aims to strengthen Metro Manila's disaster resilience in line with the socioeconomic agenda of President Ferdinand R. Marcus Jr.
00:39The activity was led by MMDA Chair Romando Don Artes, together with Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchi Abalos and other local officials.
00:47Bohangan Creek extends into the cities of Manila and Pasig and is also connected to the San Juan River.
00:53From its original width of 4 meters, some sections of the creek have narrowed to just 1 meter due to the presence of informal settlers.
01:00Because of this, the local government of Mandaluyong plans to relocate around 30 to 40 families living along the creek through in-city or in-barangay relocation starting next year.
01:11An additional 200 to 300 families living along the city's waterways are also scheduled for relocation.
01:17The MMDA is also focused on dredging the creek due to heavy siltation.
01:45If not, sana mawala.
01:46Kasi ito talaga yung co-connected, dyan nakaano yung aming mga drainage.
01:50The agency will be purchasing additional equipment for the cleaning and deepening of creeks and esteros.
01:56From its original target of 19 waterways, the MMDA has now cleaned 31.
02:01The audit of government projects in Metro Manila that have contributed to flooding near creeks and esteros
02:05has also been completed with 52 booster pumps recommended for removal.
02:11This is Sharm Zespina from the National TV Network for a new and better Philippines.
