00:00Bill's found dead today.
00:03Huh?
00:06Yeah.
00:07Just a few hours ago.
00:09Do you know of anybody who would have wanted to do harm to Bill?
00:13Igniting, vindictive, underhanded.
00:18It was just live, live, live.
00:22We have a murder now that had been planned,
00:24and everybody had a job.
00:26She goes, we might need him to take it out.
00:30She picked young, impressionable people
00:32and groomed everyone involved.
00:34I was so used to just doing for her without thinking.
00:39That broke me.
00:41My heart just hurts so much for her.
00:45She was basically just a puppet.
00:46She found a weakness, and then she played on his notions.
00:49What kind of monster would rope their own child
00:52into committing murder?
01:009-1-1, what's your problem?
01:13The man's laying on the ground in the middle of the driveway.
01:15I think he's dead.
01:18I'm not going to touch him or nothing.
01:19I'm not going to even open the gate.
01:22All right, I'll get an EMS and Sheriff Enrao.
01:29This is not a normal call that Scott County deputies encounter
01:33on their daily patrols.
01:37It's an isolated location, and the house is positioned down a lane,
01:41tucked back in a wooded area.
01:44When officers arrive, there is a chain link fence with a gate.
01:50Beyond that gate, we located a male individual on his back.
01:54Apparently, gunshot wound to the head.
01:58The victim was identified as Bill Reynolds.
02:01He was 69 years old.
02:05There was some blood in his mouth and on the ground.
02:08It was very unusual to find the body the way it was out in the open.
02:13There was two dogs.
02:14One was on his chest, and the other one was licking his ear.
02:19It was a disturbing scene.
02:23Whenever officers arrive on a scene like that,
02:25oftentimes, they wait to move the body.
02:31The coroner was called, and when Bill Reynolds was moved,
02:35there was nothing there.
02:37They were checking for any type of weapon
02:39that would indicate suicide.
02:42There was no gun found in or around the body,
02:45and there was no shell casings.
02:47When none was found, they determined it to be a homicide.
02:56This is a farming community.
02:58Everybody knows everybody.
03:02Bill seemed like just any old country folk from Scott County.
03:07He was a family man, and he liked to work on vehicles
03:10and tinker with cars.
03:12So who would want to do this to Bill Reynolds?
03:15Who has the means, the motive, and the ability?
03:26I got the call.
03:28I broke down crying and screaming.
03:30My brother's frantic, says, uh, Henry, we got to go to Dad's.
03:37We got to go now.
03:37Something's happened.
03:42When we get to the residence, we could see an individual
03:45laying there at the fence.
03:52So we walked up to get a little closer to the fence,
03:55and, uh, we knew that was our dad.
04:00It was a pretty messed up scene.
04:14The next move from the investigation
04:16is to start collecting evidence,
04:18and we'll try to get a timeline established.
04:23Authorities quickly start canvassing the area,
04:25talking to people to find out what could have occurred.
04:29This really caused investigators to hit a brick wall.
04:33It appears as though Bill Reynolds was shot in broad daylight
04:36without any witnesses or anyone around.
04:39It's so strange.
04:40We were interviewed by the police.
04:44They didn't tell us a whole lot, other than, you know,
04:47our dad was possibly shot execution-style in the head with a firearm.
04:52We had nothing at that point.
04:56It's a complete whodunit.
05:09Dad had a big heart.
05:10He did his best to show us as much love as he possibly could.
05:19I just know that.
05:19He was a good guy.
05:20He'd do anything for you.
05:22He was 18 years old when he was drafted to the Vietnam War.
05:27So, my dad had seen things in his lifetime that most people aren't going to see.
05:34When dad came back from Vietnam,
05:35he liked kind of the extravagant lifestyle.
05:40I think it kind of made him feel alive.
05:44He loved automobiles.
05:47Corvettes, Mustangs, I mean, he had them all.
05:51Here's one of his cars.
05:52He called that, remember, he called that the Black Angel?
05:54Yeah.
05:56And there was the old Cobra, Mustang Cobra.
06:00He'd also had a NASCAR memorabilia collection
06:03that was like no other that I've ever seen.
06:08You name it, he had it.
06:19Dad came over to my house and told me,
06:20I've met this lady.
06:21I'd like for you to meet her.
06:23Her name is Daylene.
06:27It was love at first sight.
06:31She put on the charm, and he said he couldn't resist.
06:38Dad seemed to be happy.
06:40Daylene was his next chapter in life.
06:43He was excited about that.
06:47Soon after Bill met Daylene, she moved into his residence
06:50along with her grandchildren, Amaris and Michael.
06:55Their mother is Johnetta Hall.
07:00Johnetta was a truck driver,
07:01so Daylene was taking care of the grandchildren
07:03while Johnetta worked.
07:04My dad opened up his arms totally and accepted Michael and Amaris
07:11as part of being with Daylene.
07:15You could tell he loved Michael, and he loved Amaris, too.
07:18They had a good relationship.
07:20She looked up to Bill, the dad.
07:24I think she just craved having someone care about her the right way.
07:31So Bill took on a family that really needed his attention,
07:37and his kind heart stepped right in.
07:51Dad and Daylene were married about a couple of years
07:53before Dad got some bad news.
07:57He told me he had to go in for softness cancer surgery,
08:01and they didn't give him a real high percentage
08:04to help make it through this.
08:09What I gathered from the investigation,
08:11that cancer, I believe, took a toll on their marriage.
08:16I never saw Daylene come to the hospital to see him.
08:22It seemed to me like Daylene was worried about Daylene.
08:27We found out that during Bill's hospital stay,
08:30Daylene became power of attorney for Bill.
08:34Bill also claimed that Daylene put the titles to his home
08:37and his vehicles in her name.
08:41Here's a man dying and going through cancer treatment.
08:45Why would you do something like that?
08:51Dad makes it through the softness of surgery and gets out.
08:54We're excited that he gets to continue on with his life.
08:58Bill comes home from the hospital
09:00and says he's shocked to find all of his belongings
09:02out on the back porch.
09:05What's going on here?
09:06Why is this happening?
09:09I'm sure it was a heart pill to swallow.
09:13I gave you a home.
09:15I gave you my heart.
09:18That's heartless.
09:19You could tell it tore him up.
09:23He cried a couple times.
09:26I mean, it's just a sad, sad situation.
09:33I took him down to Scott County Courthouse.
09:35He filed for a divorce.
09:37And then he immediately moved in with my brother.
09:44Once my dad left the house,
09:46Daylene's daughter, Janetta,
09:47moved in with her mom to help
09:49during the divorce proceedings.
09:53It pretty much was a takeover.
09:59For about a year, there was arguing and bickering
10:01going on over who was going to get the house.
10:03Amaris would talk about her grandma
10:07and Bill fighting
10:09and stressing her out.
10:12It wasn't pleasant for her.
10:19Eventually, through the divorce proceeding,
10:22Bill Reynolds was awarded the marital residence.
10:27It meant that Daylene, Janetta,
10:30Michael, and Amaris
10:31had to vacate the property and move out.
10:33Into a small, single-wide trailer.
10:37Dad was excited to get back.
10:39I mean, that's where he had all of his belongings.
10:41But when we opened the door,
10:43it was an absolute disaster.
10:46Every room in this house
10:47smells of dead dogs.
10:50Stereo says $300.
10:52Brand new box.
10:53Gone.
10:54Animals had peed in there.
10:56You know, they did their business in there.
10:59Dog poopy on the floor.
11:01The smell hit us in the face so strong
11:04that it would almost make you throw up.
11:06It was awful.
11:09They made sure that when they left,
11:11that this place was going to be pretty much unlivable.
11:14It looked like a bomb has went off.
11:16The diaper's all over the place.
11:24Why can't people be so goddamn hateful in me?
11:28Then Dad noticed something that was sitting in his chair.
11:31And he picked up this can.
11:37And on the front of that can, it said gun oil.
11:42It was placed there intentionally.
11:45And my dad's first reaction
11:46when he turned around to look at us is,
11:48they're going to kill me.
12:00September 27th was supposed to be
12:02Bill Reynolds' first night back in his residence.
12:07He had spent days cleaning the house
12:09after the place was left in a state of filth.
12:11But Bill was killed that day.
12:20I was angry.
12:22And I just stayed silent for a long time.
12:28Bill did not deserve any of that.
12:32That's part of the investigation.
12:42You want to find out where people were
12:43at the time of the murder.
12:47And anytime you have knowledge of a nasty divorce,
12:51the first person you're going to speak to is the wife.
12:57We traveled to Daylene's house
12:58and informed her that we had found Bill deceased.
13:05Daylene was not very friendly.
13:07And she did not seem surprised.
13:12One thing that I found very odd
13:14was that she had a lot of cleaning chemicals out.
13:18The first thought through your mind
13:19is that she's trying to conceal evidence of a crime.
13:26Daylene was asked if she owned any firearms
13:28She explained that she did own a .38 revolver.
13:36But she hadn't seen it in some time.
13:42When we asked Daylene if she shot Bill,
13:45she made a very unusual statement
13:47that raised the hair on the back of your neck.
13:53She said, it would have been more personal
13:55if I killed him.
13:58I would have stabbed him
13:59or I would have beat him with a bat.
14:02Suspicion started to rise.
14:05We asked her about her whereabouts on that day.
14:08She explained that her and her daughter,
14:10Johnnetta, had been cleaning.
14:12But that Johnnetta had stepped out
14:14to go get some groceries
14:14and had left around 2 p.m.
14:16That was the same time we had found Bill deceased.
14:22Some neighbors verified Daylene's story
14:25that she, in fact, had been there all day cleaning.
14:31Daylene Cates' alibi checks out.
14:34But at that stage, anything is still open
14:36and we're not ruling out any suspects.
14:48There is a good way of getting a divorce
14:51and then there is a bad way of getting a divorce.
14:53And to be underhanded,
14:58that's basically what Daylene did.
15:04Daylene was very dominating.
15:09She always had to have things her way.
15:13Whatever she said went, and that was it.
15:16Her daughter, Johnnetta,
15:20was also very angry through this divorce.
15:24Explosively angry.
15:31She was writing to all her friends on Facebook.
15:35How could Bill move her son,
15:38her daughter, and her mother out of a home?
15:42This is how the judicial system here works.
15:46I don't think so.
15:51Johnnetta was very aggressive.
15:54She just seemed like she was
15:55a very confrontational individual.
15:58You know how they say, like, father, like son?
16:02Well, this is like mother, like daughter.
16:04Because they had the same personality,
16:07the same characteristics.
16:10It was crazy.
16:11It became important that we speak with Johnnetta
16:16because of the time frame that she left Daylene's house
16:19kind of lining up with the time frame
16:21that we found Bill Reynolds in the driveway.
16:22Thank you for coming in.
16:32Oh, you're welcome.
16:34Let me say your name.
16:36Johnnetta.
16:37Johnnetta.
16:37Johnnetta.
16:38Johnnetta seemed very collected, calm, cool.
16:43She didn't really inquire what the investigation was about.
16:46She just sat there.
16:47When she was notified that Bill was dead,
16:59she never once asked how Bill died.
17:02That was not of any interest of her.
17:05I found that extremely odd.
17:06Do you know of anybody who would have wanted to do harm to Bill?
17:11I don't really get all into Bill's business
17:14as far as, you know, who and what he knows.
17:20Her demeanor and her attitude is just extremely odd to me.
17:23Something's not right.
17:2630, what'd you do if you came to God up today?
17:29My normal.
17:30I got coffee, cigarette, and let's see,
17:35cleaning the house.
17:36I left the house, and I went up to the Austin Storage Express.
17:42I went up there and then put a rug in.
17:44Oh, and I got bread over at the gas station.
17:47Which one?
17:49Right there.
17:50Whatever is it, Circle K?
17:52Mm-hmm.
17:52Yeah.
17:53I bought bread and then went up there,
17:57and I'm just driving around trying to get myself lost.
18:00I was doing a really good job of it, too.
18:03That just seemed odd to me.
18:04Why would you go buy groceries to take home
18:07and then go take a several-hour drive
18:09to try to get yourself lost?
18:11Is she trying to displace herself from the crime scene?
18:15We asked her,
18:16do you have anything that shows
18:17that you were at the Circle K at that time?
18:19Take your receipt from there?
18:29Actually, I don't know.
18:33Oh.
18:35There it is.
18:38She's pretty quick to provide a receipt
18:40to verify her whereabouts at that time.
18:42So she did have an alibi,
18:45the time frame of Bill Reynolds' death.
18:51We then asked, was you with anybody?
18:54She said, no, I was not with anybody.
18:55Janetta's alibi checks out.
19:00So police release her,
19:02even though they're still very suspicious.
19:06We still want to verify her story.
19:08So we requested the surveillance footage
19:10from the storage facility and at the Circle K.
19:17And this is where the investigation started
19:19to take a major twist.
19:20We were able to verify through surveillance footage
19:24that Janetta indeed was at the storage facility
19:27and at the Circle K on the date in question.
19:31But one thing she left out,
19:33she was not alone.
19:43Investigators are piecing together Janetta's movements
19:46on the day of Bill's murder.
19:47We want to verify Janetta's story.
19:51And that's when we really started to uncover
19:53that Janetta was not being truthful with us.
19:58On the surveillance footage from the storage facility,
20:01Janetta is met by another vehicle
20:04that has two young men in it.
20:06Why is a woman 40 years old
20:08hanging out at a storage facility
20:09with two young male individuals half her age?
20:13Who are these guys?
20:14Why did she not want us to know
20:18who those two individuals were?
20:23They're taking items out of the storage unit,
20:25placing them into the vehicle.
20:27And then one of the male individuals
20:29obtained something from the passenger side
20:31and places it in her vehicle.
20:33That was extremely odd.
20:36Janetta is supposed to be dropping off items
20:38at the storage facility
20:39when, in fact, she was taking them out.
20:42This raised suspicion.
20:44It really did.
20:45In what would be considered
20:46a good break for law enforcement,
20:48the vehicle that was driven
20:49by the two young males
20:51was parked perfectly under a surveillance camera
20:55where a great shot of the license plate
20:57could be detected.
20:58That plate came back to an individual
21:02named Jacob Mathis.
21:17Hello.
21:20Do you know why you're here?
21:23No.
21:25Do you have any, uh, no clue at all?
21:27No.
21:28No.
21:29Jacob did not seem to be comfortable
21:30being interviewed.
21:33While you were at the storage facility,
21:35who was with you there?
21:36It was me, my roommate, and his roommate.
21:39Okay.
21:40We've now identified individuals
21:42that were associated with Janetta
21:43on the day of Bill's death,
21:45and we need to know why they were with her.
21:47And we came and got you for a reason, okay?
21:51But we need you to tell us
21:53who your roommate is.
21:54He asked me not to give his name.
22:00When Jacob Mathis refuses
22:01to give police information,
22:03even as something as simple as a name,
22:05investigators kind of start looking his way
22:08and thinking, okay,
22:09something's not adding up here.
22:13How'd you get in the gate?
22:15That storage facility.
22:16Carrie called to get the code.
22:20It's Carrie, I'm sorry.
22:21Jacob accidentally slipped
22:27and said the name Carrie.
22:29And the fear on his face
22:31when he realized he'd done that
22:32really let us know
22:34that we're onto something here.
22:35Carrie's my roommate.
22:39What's his last name?
22:40Yield.
22:43There's a dynamic here
22:44that they want to conceal from us,
22:46and we need to know why.
22:47Carrie was located
22:55and brought in for questioning.
22:58Okay.
22:58Sound right here for me.
23:00Right there.
23:02I'm probably wondering why you're here.
23:04Yeah, a little bit.
23:06He seemed like a guy
23:07that was not worried
23:08about being questioned
23:09by the police.
23:10How old are you, man?
23:1122.
23:1122.
23:13Don't be intimidated
23:15by all my piercings
23:16and stuff.
23:16I'm actually really high-tech.
23:18It doesn't intimidate anybody.
23:20Initially,
23:22he denies being in Scott County
23:23on the date of Bill's murder.
23:26But when confronted
23:27with some of the stuff
23:28we saw in the surveillance footage,
23:30that's when the interview
23:32started to break down.
23:35He began to explain to us
23:36his relationship with Johnnetta.
23:38Tell us, what happened?
23:59Tell me, what did she say?
24:04He revealed that
24:14there were several meetings
24:15that took place with Johnnetta
24:16when she asked him,
24:17what will it take
24:18to kill Bill Reynolds?
24:25To have a 20-year-old individual
24:26explain to you
24:27that he was hired
24:29to commit murder
24:29was very, very evil,
24:32twisted, and vile.
24:33It didn't make sense.
24:48She was an over-the-road
24:49truck driver
24:50who seldom was home.
24:52Where on earth
24:52is Johnnetta
24:53getting this kind of money?
24:56We discovered Bill
24:57had an infatuation
24:58with NASCAR memorabilia,
25:00and he began
25:01an impressive collection.
25:03A lot of people
25:06have investments
25:07in stock.
25:09Bill's investment
25:10was NASCAR.
25:16Anything NASCAR
25:17I think the man has.
25:20I called him
25:21a hoarder of NASCAR.
25:24There's a lot of money here.
25:26His collection
25:27was estimated
25:28to be worth
25:29in the hundreds
25:30thousands of thousands
25:30of dollars.
25:33You were going to get
25:33$100,000
25:34for that NASCAR stuff.
25:38I was going to help
25:39her sell them all.
25:41I'm thinking,
25:42there's no way.
25:43There's no way.
25:46For Bill's NASCAR collection
25:47to be the payment
25:48for someone
25:49to commit murder,
25:50unbelievable.
25:52The one thing
25:53Bill loved the most
25:54in life
25:54was going to be
25:55the cause of his demise.
25:56It's so sad.
25:57It really is sad.
25:58We learned
26:03that after the murder,
26:05Johnetta Hall meets
26:06Kerry and Jacob
26:07at the storage facility.
26:10They're transferring
26:11the NASCAR items
26:12from the storage unit
26:13into their vehicle.
26:18They had agreed
26:19that they would
26:19share in the proceeds.
26:20What kind of conversation
26:25took it between you
26:26and Johnetta
26:28when you got
26:28to the storage facility?
26:29She told me
26:30not to worry about it
26:31just to get everything
26:32packed into the car.
26:34And then
26:35while we were packing it,
26:36she told me to move
26:37the gun to her car
26:39that she would take care
26:41of everything else.
26:44We have a murder now
26:45that had been planned
26:46and everybody had a job.
26:47But we still need
26:49to know
26:49how they all
26:50knew each other.
26:54That's when things
26:55get really weird.
26:58Kerry makes a revelation
27:00to investigators.
27:03He says he knows
27:04Johnetta Hall
27:05through her daughter,
27:07his girlfriend,
27:08Amaris.
27:10This is a new development.
27:12Now we're starting
27:13to connect some dots.
27:13My favorite,
27:25absolute favorite picture
27:26of him to me
27:28is just,
27:28that's Kerry.
27:30I might be biased,
27:31but I think
27:31he's a good looking kid.
27:34In this picture,
27:35he's 21.
27:36And this is about
27:37the time that he started
27:38hanging out with
27:39Amaris and Johnetta.
27:44My first impression
27:45of her was
27:46she is not his type.
27:48When I met her,
27:50she was just trying
27:50to impress.
27:52I mean,
27:53she wasn't disrespectful.
27:54She didn't have
27:55a, you know,
27:56snarled look.
27:57Nothing like that.
27:58I mean,
27:58she was fine.
28:01I just looked at her
28:02as a fly-by-night.
28:03She was going to come
28:04and go and be gone.
28:06Boy, was I wrong.
28:13During this interview,
28:17Kerry indicated
28:17in law enforcement
28:18that it wasn't just him
28:20and Jacob Mathis
28:20involved in this plot
28:21with Johnetta Hall.
28:24There was a fourth
28:25person involved.
28:28How many more turns
28:29can we take
28:30on this investigation?
28:30We're in the wee hours
28:42in the morning now,
28:43and it was important
28:44that we did not stop
28:45at this point
28:45because we just kept
28:46uncovering untruths
28:48and more information.
28:50How much knowledge
28:51does Amaris have in this?
28:53She knows that it happens.
28:55She knows you pulled
28:56the trigger, too?
28:57Yeah.
28:58I was like, wow.
29:01We realized that
29:01Amaris Bunyard
29:02was a lot more
29:03than just Johnetta's
29:04daughter and Carrie's
29:05girlfriend.
29:08Amaris Bunyard
29:09was also involved
29:10in this murder.
29:12Can you imagine
29:13a mother and daughter
29:14murder duo?
29:15That's just crazy.
29:15It's outrageous.
29:21We brought
29:22Amaris Bunyard
29:22in for an interview.
29:24You need a water?
29:26Oh, no,
29:27I'm good at this time.
29:28Thank you, though.
29:29Cool.
29:30Why don't you tell us
29:35everything
29:37about this situation?
29:41Amaris
29:41was very cooperative.
29:44She realized
29:44that we knew
29:45she was involved.
29:47And then she
29:48began to tell us
29:49exactly what happened.
29:51My mom asked me
29:52to tell Carrie
29:52and Jacob
29:53that she wanted
29:54to talk to him.
29:55She goes,
29:55I might need help
29:56handling Bill,
29:58and we might need
29:58him taken out.
30:01I mean,
30:01there's a shock factor
30:02when you hear it.
30:04At that point,
30:05I looked at her,
30:07and I just,
30:08I said, okay,
30:09because I didn't know
30:10what else to say.
30:11I was kind of
30:12in shock.
30:12She told us
30:19that several meetings
30:21took place
30:21at her apartment
30:22for the plannings
30:24of the murder.
30:24Amaris told me
30:39a lot about the fact
30:40that when she was
30:41growing up,
30:41her mom wasn't around.
30:43I mean,
30:43it always hurts
30:44feeling like you're
30:46not wanted by a parent.
30:47If somebody
30:50who isn't around
30:51finally starts
30:52coming around
30:52and giving you
30:53attention,
30:53then you're more
30:54likely to give them
30:55things that they want.
30:59We find out
31:00Johnnetta provided
31:01the weapon,
31:03.38 Special Revolver.
31:05It was given
31:06to Amaris
31:07at Dalene's house
31:08covertly.
31:09She wrapped
31:11the gun up
31:12in a blanket
31:12and she handed
31:13it to me.
31:14Johnnetta gives
31:15Amaris the gun
31:16to commit the crime.
31:18It's a very
31:18twisted situation.
31:20She would set
31:21that in your purse
31:21so your grandmother
31:22doesn't see.
31:23And I thought
31:24that was weird,
31:25but I went with it.
31:27Amaris took her purse
31:28then out to the car
31:29that her and Carrie
31:29were driving,
31:30and that's how Carrie
31:31obtained the firearm
31:32to kill Bill Reynolds.
31:36Is it fair to say,
31:37though,
31:37that you were involved
31:38in getting the gun?
31:38I was,
31:39and I feel like shit
31:40for him.
31:40Okay.
31:41Why do you feel
31:41like shit over him?
31:44He wasn't the same
31:45Bill that I knew,
31:45but he was my papa.
31:47The man was there
31:48my entire life.
31:52Tell us what
31:52you were told.
31:55You know,
31:55how Bill's changed.
31:57You know,
31:57how he's turned
31:58into this monster.
32:01Bill was made out
32:02to be an evil
32:03human being
32:03to Amaris
32:04by Johnnetta.
32:07She had convinced
32:08her that this
32:09was what was needed
32:10to make their life
32:11better.
32:15Bill was good to her.
32:19He really loved Amaris.
32:22I mean,
32:22he would do anything
32:23for that child.
32:25And it's sad.
32:27It's really sad.
32:27It takes a disgusting
32:33human being,
32:35a very evil
32:36and twisted person
32:37to use that
32:39sort of manipulation.
32:42Johnnetta had
32:42manipulated
32:43and groomed
32:45everyone involved
32:45to try to
32:46get them
32:47to see her side
32:48of things.
32:48Carrie had talked
32:55about Johnnetta
32:56a lot.
33:00He was doing
33:01like different
33:02odd jobs
33:02for,
33:04so I didn't,
33:05I really didn't
33:05think anything of it
33:06was keeping him busy.
33:09As I was hearing
33:10more and more
33:11about Johnnetta,
33:13I did ask him
33:14if there was
33:15something more
33:15between them
33:15because he talked
33:16about her so much.
33:19It was apparent
33:20that Johnnetta Hall
33:21was willing
33:22to do anything
33:23or say anything
33:24that she could
33:24to get someone
33:26to carry out
33:27this murder for her.
33:30She swooped in
33:32to give him
33:33that attention
33:34that I wasn't
33:35giving him.
33:38And then she
33:38played on his emotions.
33:42And how do you
33:43convince a 20-year-old
33:44to commit murder?
33:46Johnnetta told
33:47Carrie that
33:49Bill had
33:50sexually abused
33:53a marriage.
33:55That was a lie.
34:01Carrie was very
34:02overprotective.
34:04The best way
34:05to get to him
34:06is to tell him
34:07that somebody
34:07he cares about
34:08is being hurt.
34:09And that
34:10is pretty well
34:11as kryptonite.
34:12for Johnnetta
34:16to say
34:17those kind
34:17of accusations
34:18and those
34:19be false
34:20just shows you
34:21the levels
34:22of what she
34:23would go to
34:23and how low
34:25she would get
34:25to get things done.
34:29She picked
34:30young,
34:31impressionable
34:31people,
34:33including her own
34:34daughter,
34:34to manipulate
34:35to do her dirty deeds.
34:37But there's more
34:40to the story.
34:41There's a lot
34:42more to come.
34:55As the mayor's
34:56interview progressed,
34:57it was apparent
34:58that Johnnetta Hall
34:59had reached
35:00a point of desperation.
35:00According to Carrie,
35:06I was part
35:07of the contract
35:07that my mother
35:09told him
35:10I would marry him
35:11if this was done.
35:14I didn't think
35:15my mom would pretty
35:15much traffic me
35:17off like that.
35:23What kind
35:24of monster
35:24would use
35:26their daughter
35:26as a ploy
35:27to get someone
35:27to commit murder?
35:29It's sick.
35:30I was kind
35:33of on autopilot.
35:34I was so used
35:34to just doing
35:36for her
35:37without thinking
35:38I just did it.
35:39But inside,
35:40I felt like
35:42I was tearing
35:43myself apart.
35:45The planning
35:45of this murder
35:46and all the meetings
35:47seemed to be
35:48the only way
35:49she could really
35:49bond with her mother.
35:51I feel as though
35:52Amaris was trying
35:54to gain the approval
35:55of an absentee mother.
35:56It's shocking.
35:57To see a mom
36:01try to take
36:04her daughter
36:04down a road,
36:05a criminal road,
36:06a path that's
36:07so dark as this,
36:08it's very heartbreaking.
36:09her mother,
36:21Janetta,
36:21just played her
36:22and told her
36:22what to do
36:23and she was
36:24basically just a puppet.
36:25when taking
36:38this case
36:39to trial,
36:40I was extremely nervous
36:41because we didn't have
36:42a murder weapon.
36:44After Carrie Heald
36:45put the murder weapon
36:47in the car
36:47of Janetta Hall,
36:48she went for a drive
36:51just like she had
36:52told police.
36:56I believe that drive
36:57was to get rid
36:57of the murder weapon.
37:01She drove for quite
37:02a long time
37:02over many bodies
37:04of water
37:04and that weapon
37:06was never discovered.
37:06We're getting ready
37:13to put a person
37:14on trial
37:14for murder
37:15that was not
37:16at the crime scene,
37:18that didn't
37:19pull the trigger.
37:22We're missing
37:23some key elements here
37:24to be able
37:24to convince a jury
37:25that she's guilty
37:26of murder.
37:27Any time you've
37:30got a murder
37:31and all you have
37:33against your defendant
37:34is the testimony
37:35of other people
37:35who were involved
37:36in this crime,
37:37you're always worried.
37:40In the courtroom,
37:42Janetta was
37:42straight-faced.
37:44I think in Janetta's eyes,
37:46the kind of manipulator
37:47that she was,
37:48that she was pretty much
37:49convinced that
37:50there's no way
37:51this jury's going
37:52to find me guilty.
37:55I mean,
37:56it took forever.
37:57I thought,
37:58man,
37:58this ain't never
37:58going to happen.
38:05But the jury
38:06saw through her
38:07and saw the actions
38:08and heard all
38:09the evidence
38:10and the testimony.
38:14Janetta was
38:14found guilty
38:15by the jury
38:16of murder
38:17and conspiracy
38:17to commit murder
38:18and was given
38:19a sentence
38:20of life without parole.
38:23I felt justice
38:24had been served.
38:26Janetta's exactly
38:27where she needs to be.
38:29But this case
38:30had a domino effect
38:31that affected
38:31multiple lives
38:32because of manipulation,
38:34because of greed,
38:35because of pure evil.
38:36I know, I was in shock.
38:54I would have bet my house
38:55that he did not do it.
38:58That was not my son.
38:59My son would have never
39:00done anything like that.
39:01just, I'm sorry.
39:08His whole adult life
39:10is, you know,
39:12locked up in prison
39:13because of John Anna.
39:15Anna Maris.
39:16due to lies,
39:20just lie,
39:20to lie,
39:21to lie.
39:22My son is,
39:23you know,
39:23taken away.
39:26When you cannot
39:27protect your child
39:28and you see
39:29stuff going on
39:30with them,
39:31it is heart-wrenching.
39:31That broke me.
39:47That broke me so bad.
39:50I said,
39:51oh my God,
39:52there's no way,
39:54no way.
39:54My heart
39:58just hurts
39:59so much
40:00for her.
40:01She shouldn't be
40:02where she's at.
40:07People do desperate
40:08things
40:08when they feel
40:09like they have
40:10no choice.
40:11And I think
40:11that's where
40:12she was at.
40:22My brother and I
40:23didn't get to spend
40:24the remaining years
40:25with our dad,
40:26you know,
40:26his weighing years
40:28as he got older.
40:29You know,
40:29his life was taken
40:30from us.
40:36It's sad
40:37that my dad
40:37collected this
40:38NASCAR memorabilia.
40:41And for that stuff
40:42to only be used
40:43against him
40:45to have him executed
40:46is just,
40:47it's terrible.
40:54he was a good guy.
40:59I just remember
41:00his laugh.
41:05He'd start laughing,
41:06make you laugh.
41:06you ever walk
41:13into a room
41:14and you could tell
41:15something just
41:16isn't right?
41:18There was
41:20sex parties,
41:22there was
41:23getting together
41:24with groups.
41:25It's manipulation
41:25at its finest.
41:26It was to please
41:28my mother.
41:28It was what
41:29she wanted done.
41:30it was for you.
41:30It was like,
41:31oh,
41:32yes,
41:32it was like,
41:33oh,
41:34yes,
41:34that's right.
41:35It was like,
41:35I don't know if you're
41:35telling me what
41:36she wanted me to do.
