The United States has formally designated Saudi Arabia as a “major non-NATO ally,” marking a historic upgrade in bilateral relations. The status gives Riyadh faster access to advanced American weapons and deeper defence cooperation. Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also signed a strategic defence agreement aimed at reinforcing their 80-year partnership and boosting Middle East deterrence. 00:10obliterating a very serious nuclear threat, this is the best in terms of safety.

00:21That we're taking our military cooperation to even greater heights by formally designating

00:26Saudi Arabia as a major non-NATO ally, signing a historic strategic defense agreement, which

00:33we just signed a little while ago.

00:35Saudi Arabia is also making an enormous commitment to building up its own defense capabilities

00:40with the largest arms purchase in history, nearly $142 billion worth of American military

00:47equipment and services.

00:48And as I've said many times, and we've demonstrated just a short while ago, but quite a bit,

00:55that we make the best military equipment in the world by far.

00:59We make the best jets, the best missiles.

01:01We make the best military equipment in the world.

01:04There's nothing even close.

01:06But this will mark and make both of our nations safer and cement the kingdom's role as a key

01:12force for stability and security in the Middle East.

01:16And they are, I think right now I can say with what we did with our beautiful B-2 bombers

01:21going in and obliterating a very serious nuclear threat, which would have taken place in about

01:29a month from that date.

01:30They were ready to go.

01:32They're not ready to go anymore.

01:33They'd like very much to make a deal with us and they call us and we'll end up probably

01:37doing that.

01:38That's Iran.

01:39But when you really think about it, Your Majesty, I think that this is the best in terms of

01:46safety.

01:47Saudi Arabia has never been as safe as it is right now.

01:50You always had a little cloud over your head and sometimes that cloud was very big.

01:54That cloud is not there anymore and we want to keep it that way.

01:57So that's why tonight I'm pleased to announce that we're taking our military cooperation to

02:02even greater heights by formally designating Saudi Arabia as a major non-NATO ally, which

02:09is something that is very important to them.

02:13And I'm just telling you now for the first time because I wanted to keep a little secret

02:17for tonight.

02:18I just heard him say, oh, that's nice.

02:21That's another point you won today.

02:23But and signing a historic strategic defense agreement, which we just signed a little while

02:28ago.

02:29Congratulations.

02:30It's not good.

02:33A stronger and more capable alliance will advance the interests of both countries and

02:41it will serve the highest interest of peace.

02:44And we all share in peace and we've never had and been so close to truly everlasting peace

02:50in the Middle East.
