Elon Musk, the Saudi Crown Prince and Donald Trump came together for a major tech-focused discussion covering Optimus robots, robo-taxis, Starlink aviation and maritime approval, and Musk’s vision of a future powered by AI and automation. Musk says the world is heading toward “tens of billions of robots” and a “Universal High Income” future — while also warning of AI risks.
00:19Please have a seat now. I'm sure we can do a better welcome than that to Elon Musk in Saudi Arabia
00:25There you go, that's that's the spirit
00:31Thank you Elon my dear friend
00:33We're honored to have President Trump
00:36We're honored under the sponsorship and guidance of his royal highness to celebrate a
00:43U.S. Saudi and a Saudi US
00:46Relationship that is 92 years old about how we move from an oil-based economy to an innovation-based economy
00:54Powered by wonderful technologies that definitely you're one of the pioneers in this industry
01:00We just showed to his royal highness some of your optimist robots. Yeah, and to President Trump. Let's talk about that. Tell me about them
01:10Yes, so we just
01:12Showed the several of our tesla optimist robots to his highness and President Trump and I think they were very impressed
01:19Um, in fact one of our robots did the Trump dance, which I think was pretty cool. YMCA. Yeah, yeah, to YMCA
01:28So yeah, robots can dance they can walk around they can interact
01:34I think we're headed to
01:37A radically different world. I think I think a good world an interesting world
01:42Um, my prediction actually for humanoid robots is that ultimately there will be
01:50Tens of billions. I think everyone will want to have their personal
01:57robot you can think of it like
02:00As though you had your own personal
02:02C3PO or R2D2 or even better
02:05Then who wouldn't want to have their own personal C3PO or R2D2 that would be pretty great
02:12and
02:14I also think it unlocks an immense amount of economic potential because
02:20When you you think about what is the output of an economy it is
02:25Productivity per capita at times population or capita the
02:30The, uh, once you have humanoid robots the actual economic output potential is tremendous
02:37Uh, it's it's really unlimited
02:39Um, potentially we could have an economy ten times the size of the current global economy
02:46Where, uh, no one wants for anything
02:50Um, you know, sometimes in AI they talk about universal basic income
02:55I think it's actually going to be universal high income
02:58Um, where anyone can have any goods or services that they want
03:05Um, you know, as a science fiction book recommendation that I have
03:10Which I think is probably the best envisioning of an AI future is, uh
03:16The the the culture books by in banks
03:20uh, very highly recommended
03:22um, for a, uh, non-dystopian view of the future
03:26Um, now there obviously are some risks, you know, um, which illustrate perhaps the
03:34If we don't do this right, you know, you could have like a james cameron sort of movie
03:38um, you know terminator
03:40Um, we don't want that one, um, but uh
03:44But having sort of a star trek future would be great where we're out there exploring the stars
03:50discovering the nature of the universe
03:53um, and, um, and a level of prosperity
03:57And hopefully happiness that we, uh, can't quite imagine yet
04:02So, um, I'm very excited about the future
04:05And, uh, very glad to be here. Thank you for having me
04:08It's our absolute pleasure
04:10Yeah
04:10And his royal highness was talking to you about his vision and his dream
04:14To increase productivity for the kingdom of saudi arabia and power up the region and the whole world
04:19With robotics, but also on robo taxis
04:22So how are we doing on robo taxis?
04:25Uh, yeah, so really you can think of a car or future cars as being robots on four wheels
04:32And, um, you know, I think, uh, it'll be very exciting to have autonomous vehicles here in the kingdom
04:38Indeed
04:39If you're amenable
04:40You heard it here from elon, he's bringing his robo taxis to the kingdom
04:44Yeah
04:46He has another announcement that he's going to share
04:48Yes, exactly, so, and I'd also like to, uh, thank the kingdom for approving starlink for maritime and aviation use
04:57Thank you
04:57Maritime and aviation, there you go, there you go
05:01Um, so, yeah
05:04Uh, so
05:05You're gonna bring us robots to help us increase our productivity
05:08Yeah
05:08Robo taxis to make sure that our cars and assets turn to turn into a cash generating unit
05:14Yeah
05:15And starlink
05:17Starlink to reform our aviation and maritime
05:20Yeah
05:21Talk about xai
05:23Absolutely and but I should mention also
05:25Something that may be worth considering is tunnels
05:29Tunnels the boring company
05:31I have this company called the boring company
05:33Which sounds kind of boring but it's, uh, it's, it literally bores tunnels
05:38Um, and actually tunnels in order to solve traffic
05:43Uh, you, you really need to go 3d
05:45Uh, with roads and by
05:48Using tunnels you can essentially create create like like a wormhole like it like a warp tunnel from
05:54One part of the city to another and alleviate traffic
05:58And we're we've actually already done this proof of concept in vegas
06:01So they're working tunnels in vegas in las vegas that you can use where, um, that'll just it feels like teleporting from one part of vegas to another
06:10So, uh, I always say that, you know, my joke is like tunnels are underappreciated
06:14Um, you know, it's a bit of a, you know, not always a hit, but, um, uh, so, uh
06:26Yeah, and then xai, uh, is, uh, just trying to solve
06:31Uh, general purpose artificial intelligence the goal with xai is to have a maximally truth-seeking ai
06:38Um, and it's it's important to be maximally truth-seeking ai in order to understand the universe
06:46So the the goal of xai is understand the universe
06:50Um, to understand that, you know, you know, what what is out there?
06:55Um, where is the universe going? Where did it come from?
07:00What questions? In fact, I think maybe the biggest thing is
07:04What questions do we not know to ask?
07:08Um, like I once you know the question the answer is usually the easy part
07:15Um, so the goal of xai is to help understand the universe
07:19And, um
07:23Yeah, that's that's the goal
07:26And, you know, help people answer any questions along the way of course, but, um
07:32I mean, that's that's my philosophy
07:34My philosophy is a one of curiosity
07:37Just trying to understand the nature of reality
07:41So I know you had a long day, but we also have the honorable president and his royal highness
