00:01The All-Ireland Championship.
00:04The very pinnacle of our Gaelic games.
00:07And winning one is the dream of every player.
00:10It's the top of the mountain.
00:12If it was easy, everyone would do it.
00:14The expectation of Kenny is to win the All-Ireland
00:16and there's nothing else about it.
00:19In Camogie, one team has dominated for the last two years
00:23and shows no sign of giving up their title.
00:25And Cork are the All-Ireland Champions again!
00:28Cork have set their sights on a rare three in a row.
00:31Do you ever feel like the room is heavy?
00:33Like the air is hot and the air is sweaty?
00:36And why the other counties respect them?
00:38They're fast-paced, aggressive, smart hurling.
00:41They're hungry to take their place.
00:43They are a phenomenal team.
00:45Of course, they'll be the good.
00:48We're never going to be too far away.
00:50I'm going to always give someone a fair run for their money.
00:52I'm watching the world go around the wind.
00:57In this series, we follow the teams hunting down Cork's crown
01:01to bring a championship back to their county.
01:03How much do you want this?
01:05It'll just mean the world.
01:10I love winning and I absolutely want that at inter-county level.
01:13This is the best book I told you about.
01:14If we get a performance that we're looking for,
01:17no team will be able to beat us.
01:18If we want to win in All-Ireland,
01:20we're not going to win it by being nice.
01:21We never give up!
01:22We never stop!
01:23We never stop!
01:39Let's get ready to work.
01:40Let's get pipped up.
01:41Let's go.
01:42Move it, move it, move it.
01:43Let's go.
01:44Now you work.
01:46For elite Camogie players, the season starts early.
01:49While the All-Ireland final is months away in August,
01:52the hard graft goes in during the winter months.
01:55When you take a step back and you think about it,
01:57we're all psychopaths to be putting this much time and energy
02:01and effort trying to juggle in something
02:03that is never going to pay the bills,
02:05it's never going to get you a mortgage,
02:07and yet we still give it absolutely everything we can,
02:10every opportunity we get,
02:11and we absolutely love it.
02:15There is so much that you can learn about yourself,
02:18how far you can push yourself to the limit.
02:21It's easy to give up, like, when the days are tough,
02:24the dark nights, the long evenings, the bad injuries,
02:26the lonely things that people don't see.
02:29But the things you get out of it then totally outweigh that.
02:33The only thing we'll ask of you, right,
02:35is absolute self-improvement.
02:36We'll improve as a team right through the next 10 weeks, 12 weeks.
02:39We'll go again, we'll go again, we'll go again.
02:41Don't stop that run, don't stop that run!
02:43It is a huge sacrifice.
02:45You're training so much.
02:46You're dialed in with nutrition.
02:48You could be missing some social events or family events,
02:50but to put on a Watford jersey, it's a massive thing.
02:53Well, Paul, away we go!
02:55You learn how to communicate properly,
02:57deal with ups and downs, leadership skills, conflict.
03:00There's so much stuff that camogie and sport in general
03:03that can teach you.
03:04And I believe it's made us all better people.
03:07At this stage, every team still dreams
03:10of lifting the O'Duffy Cup in the summer.
03:12But for Dublin, early season strains
03:15have already ruled out their vice-captain,
03:17Ashley Maher, and Captain Niamh Gannon.
03:20Found the injury this year really hard.
03:22One of my leadership traits would be leading by example on the field,
03:25so then automatically you're not going to be doing that.
03:28So how do you kind of lead in a different way?
03:31That's it, Katie, that's it.
03:32Drop, Katie, drop, Katie.
03:34Injuries abound.
03:35And in Kilkenny,
03:37Captain Katie Power is currently managing her own.
03:40I have early arthritis in both knees.
03:42You would have been struggling
03:43to get up out of bed some days.
03:45While in Tipperary,
03:46who haven't made it past the semi-final for almost 20 years,
03:49it's more of a mental game.
03:51Remember, you're all Ireland champions coming into the reg.
03:53So we need to set the tone.
03:58Our league campaign probably didn't go 100% to plan.
04:10We went in as reigning champions.
04:13We finished third in the league, I think, on the table.
04:16OK, guys, bring it in there.
04:18Mmm, something different this morning.
04:19Maybe this is an opportunity to refocus ourselves
04:22on where we're going and what we're doing.
04:23Over the last four years we've got to the semi-final,
04:26we've lost all four of them.
04:28When it comes to just one point in the difference,
04:31it is very disheartening and disappointing
04:34just being so close to that last step
04:37and not being able to break through.
04:39We've looked at five different ways
04:41that we are going to work on to win in all Ireland.
04:43Our belief, our preparation, teamwork,
04:45adaptability, just mental toughness.
04:47Reflecting back, I still feel a little bit of anger inside
04:51that there was chances where we could have won.
04:53And they're definitely things that we're working on.
04:56I don't think it's skill or ability to play that let us down.
05:00We need enough evidence.
05:01So evidence will build the trust that we're capable,
05:04as a result, we'll feel confident, we'll act confident.
05:07We're definitely focusing a lot on mindset this year
05:10and just trying to learn how to finish out them
05:14last ten minutes or last five minutes of a match.
05:17And I do think that everyone on the panel
05:19does believe that we can do it.
05:21It's just actually doing it.
05:25You're the best Camote players in the county, right?
05:27It's believing that I deserve to be here.
05:29That's the bottom line of it.
05:32While Tipper preparing for the All-Irelands,
05:35the provincial championships are progressing elsewhere.
05:38And the dispute over the controversial skirt-short hybrid attire,
05:42known as the skort, is about to erupt.
05:45Everything was full focus on Leinster semi-final.
05:48And the GPA brought out a report which highlighted 83%
05:53as the players playing senior inter-county Camogie would prefer
05:55to have the choice to wear shorts.
05:56and 70% of them reportedly feeling discomfort when they have to play wearing skorts.
06:01So that gave us a renewed frustration at the fact that we're still not being given the option to wear shorts.
06:06The last six, seven years, there's been a big push from players to try to bring in shorts
06:12as we literally train in shorts, play challenge games in shorts.
06:16So we got some communication from Kilkenny, raising the question about whether or not there'd be appetite and interest
06:21from our side of wearing the shorts.
06:23Ourselves in Dublin spoke to each other and said both are going to play the match in shorts and see what pans out.
06:34Both teams unanimously agree to wear shorts.
06:37And if the game goes ahead, it will be a first for the sport.
06:41But when the two captains meet the referee for the pre-match coin toss,
06:45he tells them the match will not go ahead unless they change from their shorts into scorts.
06:50We had agreed beforehand, we would push the protest to the point of abandoning the game.
06:55And then at that stage, we didn't want to risk losing the opportunity to play a match
06:58that we've been working for months and really years to play, you know.
07:02While the game goes ahead, this brief moment on a club pitch in West Dublin
07:07is about to have significant reverberations.
07:10By the time I'd finished the game, my phone was already blown up with messages and requests to talk about it.
07:17It is hard as a player that the choice of what I wear isn't in my hands.
07:21A row over Camogie players having to wear scorts has erupted
07:25after players from Dublin and Kilkenny were forced to change.
07:29Ultimately, I think the horse has bolted and it's too late for the Camogie Association.
07:32So whatever they've decided now in terms of a compromise, I don't think it's going to be enough.
07:37Since then, it's just been a bit of a storm. We never probably expected it to be as crazy as it was the last couple of days.
07:43I've only got so many years left where I'm going to be able to play Senior Inter-County
07:47and I want to spend all of my time and energy and effort training and playing
07:53and focused on tactics and execution and opposition
07:56and not focused on expenses and sports and all that other stuff that's away from the pitch.
08:02So is it like a short short and then the piece of material over it?
08:06Exactly. So the whole time you're like putting your hand under the material on the outside
08:10and trying to pull down the shorts on the inside, pull it out of your arse.
08:14Good morning to you both. Ashing listen, let's start off with you.
08:17We're not being heard, we're not being listened to.
08:19They're off developing a better sport when we want the option of wearing shorts.
08:22I am thrilled that we made the stand and I'm thrilled that it has got the exposure that it has gotten.
08:28I just kind of wish it was over now and the ruling was made that we could wear the shorts
08:32and we could get back to focusing on what's important.
08:34It's not over, it's only just beginning it would appear.
08:42Right, so Dad you go low, I'll hit it back to you and Jamie you go high.
08:46The Scourts controversy remains unresolved, but preparation continues for the championship.
08:51Welcome to Piltown, my own club.
08:53Any spare time we had, we were out practicing.
08:56We wanted to be with the big names at the time.
08:59Henry Shefflin, like if you've seen him walking around the streets, Kilkenny,
09:02they're nearly worshipped like and maybe it's Kilkenny-esque thing, I'm not sure.
09:06But when you're in primary school, you know, if the hurling coordinator comes to your school,
09:11like that's nearly the best day of the term, like when he comes.
09:14Right, we'll go again.
09:15When Katie don't be training, she ropes either me or Dad down and we hit a few balls into her.
09:19You know, she does always be looking for small improvements.
09:22Ah, lads, the balls are crap.
09:24Shocking.
09:25She's very driven, and to get back from the amount of injuries that she's had,
09:29probably tough as nails, is the thing that would describe her as most.
09:37In terms of managing the load for the next six weeks, unfortunately,
09:40I'll probably be only training for one on-field session.
09:43The other session the girls are doing, I'll meet a coach, we'll do a wall-ball session,
09:46so at least it's not as much movement on the legs whilst I'm still getting a bit of touch in.
09:51You want to enjoy going training, not struggling along the line.
09:54The day after, like.
09:55OK, well done today, girls.
09:56Good luck.
09:57Good luck.
09:58Good luck.
09:59Good luck.
10:00Good luck.
10:01Good luck.
10:02Good luck.
10:03Good luck.
10:04Good luck.
10:05Good luck.
10:06Good luck.

10:08Good luck.
10:09Good luck.
10:10Good luck.
10:11Good luck.
10:12Good luck.
10:13Good luck.
10:14Good luck.
10:15Good luck.
10:16Good luck.
10:17Good luck.
10:18Good luck.
10:19Good luck.
10:20Good luck.
10:21Good luck.
10:22Good luck.
10:23Good luck.
10:24Good luck.
10:25Good luck.
10:26Good luck.

10:33Good luck.
10:34Good luck.
10:35Good luck.
10:36Good luck.
10:37Good luck.
10:38Good luck.
10:39Good luck.
10:40That was wonderful, the Iìž…L-18 All.
10:41They backed player welfare and dignity, similar one there from Peregrines.
10:42We support choice and shorts.
10:43Let Camogie players wear what they want.
10:44Even Chicago Camogie waying in there.
10:47Can't even get close to reading them all and replying to them all.
10:49Well done, Ashing, on your articulate leadership over the past few weeks.
10:53A great role model for my two teenage Camogues.
10:56Thanks, Ashing, from a tipped Camogie mum.
11:00Massive respect for what you're doing.
11:01You just made life of every aspiring...
11:03Sorry.
11:04You've just made the life of every aspiring sporting girl easier.
11:13My little one is seven and loves her mogey, as she calls it.
11:19But I was dreading the day she had to wear one of those ridiculous skirts and trying
11:23to explain it to her.
11:25I feel like we have a really rare opportunity here to leave the sport in a better place.
11:34And I just think it's really important to get that right, so that all these kids keep
11:42playing and don't have to deal with unnecessary barriers or things that would deter them from
11:50the sport.
11:51And it's because I love the game so much, you know?
11:53Because I know how much the game has given me, I want other young girls to have that experience.
12:04The counties continue to train towards the upcoming All-Ireland series, but there's still
12:10no conclusion to the Scorts fiasco, and Cork and Waterford up the stakes.
12:16They say they won't play their Munster final if they don't have the choice to play in shorts.
12:21Cork and Waterford will be playing in the Munster final at the weekend.
12:26Have you on the teams been discussing what you'll wear then?
12:29What we're going to do is wear shorts, and if we're asked to return to the dressing room,
12:33we won't.
12:34And if that means abandoning the game and handing over the Munster title to Waterford,
12:38that's what we'll do.
12:39It'll have a huge impact, but I think, again, we're looking at the bigger picture.
12:43It's a bit mind-boggling now.
12:44We're trying to push for equality.
12:46If girls want to wear the skirts or if girls want to wear the shorts, we're trying to just
12:49have that balance, I suppose, and just to have a bit more security, to know if you're
12:54on your time of the month and stuff like that, and that's a huge factor as well.
12:57And if the Pope can get elected within two or three days, I can't see why we can't wear
13:01the shorts.
13:03You know, we don't want to get to the point where we're protesting.
13:05We don't want to get to the point where we're talking about things that aren't matches when
13:09we're a week out from championships.
13:12Here the Munster senior camogie final between Cork and Waterford has been postponed over
13:18the ongoing player-led sport controversy.
13:22The cancellation of the match is particularly frustrating for Waterford, who have never before
13:27contested a Munster final.
13:29Superbore doesn't come around that often here in Waterford, and it would have been nice
13:32to try to contest that.
13:35I personally just think it's a shocking decision.
13:37It's actually unbelievable to think that they've done something like this, like a Munster
13:41final as well.
13:42You know, a massive, massive match.
13:43It just wouldn't happen in men's hurling, like it wouldn't.
13:46It would be called off far in advance, or it wouldn't be called off at all, it would
13:49be resolved for the sake of the players.
13:51Good evening to you, the Camogie Association will hold a special congress on the Scorts issue
13:55at Croke Park tonight, where a vote will be then taken on whether or not to allow shorts
13:59to become part of the official kit for the sport.
14:02What would your message be to delegates before they walk into special congress at Croke Park?
14:06Unless the vote goes in favour of the player's voice and represents what the players have
14:09been asking for, there won't be a championship.
14:14At the same time that the special congress on Scorts takes place in Croke Park, championship preparations
14:27continue, and in Dublin there's an update on their captain.
14:31I got good news yesterday with the physio, so I just need to hit speeds today and then
14:36hopefully be back soon.
14:37I'm like now in a return to play rehab plan.
14:41So a few games that I thought were maybe gone are kind of back in picture, so it's good.
14:49And finally, some breaking news.
14:51Number one, great fucking attitude tonight.
14:53Great attitude.
14:54Number two, we're wearing shorts in centre.
14:56Yay!
14:57The Camogie Association has voted to allow players to wear shorts instead of Scorts while
15:07playing matches.
15:08Vote-wise, it was 98% to 2%, while on the way it is, it's three.
15:14Shorts have been passed.
15:15Oh!
15:16No, it's great that we have a choice, you know, it's great.
15:18Look, we can go and come for it now or just wear what you want to wear.
15:22Thank God it's after passing anyway, but look, a long time coming now and all roads now
15:26to Kilkenny now next week.
15:28I'm relieved, I think, more than anything.
15:30We put way too much work into playing and training and getting to here for a whole championship
15:36season to be swallowed up by something as stupid as shorts and Scorts.
15:41The focus shifts, thank God, as I have said many times this week, I can't wait to never
15:45talk about Scorts again.
15:49We're thrilled to be out on grass and the sun's shining.
15:52When the balls happen, myself and Grace are happy.
15:55Come on, come on!
15:59This is the most important competition throughout the year.
16:02Tip's goal is to win the All-Ireland.
16:03There's nothing else that we want.
16:06Championships after rolling around so quick.
16:08It's actually crazy the last month, six weeks have just flown by.
16:12In terms of rune preparation, I feel like has gone really well.
16:15But there's a trophy on the line and in Camoggi, you know, there's probably only three trophies
16:19on the line all year.
16:20How much do you want this?
16:22I remember last year.
16:24It didn't go your way.
16:26What would you give?
16:27What would you give to play a championship all over again?
16:30Well, now it's on your doorstep.
16:31The next eight weeks, it's what it's all about.
16:34When we wear our fucking jersey, there's nothing better.
16:37The one or two percent we're talking about in training for the last three months,
16:41that's what we're looking to find now.
16:43Can we find it inside this group now?
16:46Everyone's in good form.
16:47We're all training well.
16:48We're buzzing.
16:49We can't wait to get out to the pitch.
16:50We have a fucking score for Sethi, yeah?
16:52This is the best fucking time of your life.
16:53And you're doing it at the very best level you can do it.
16:56Reset.
16:57Let's really nail the ball off the shoulder as well.
17:02Feels really good to be back in training and not just running outside watching the girls.
17:07So, yeah, delighted.
17:08And I came just in time for the summer hurling, so I can't complain.
17:16After a tough season with numerous injuries, management upheaval, and no wins yet to their name,
17:22Dublin start with a tricky assignment, playing last year's finalists Galway.
17:27It's the start of another championship.
17:29I'll back Dublin any day.
17:31We're playing our game, and we're going to nail it.
17:34This is our time.
17:35Let's go.
17:37The championship for 2025 is underway, and Dublin on the attack now.
17:41Great run by Dublin.
17:42Open up to Galway defense every time.
17:44The Dubs start strongly, with some key scores pushing them ahead.
17:47The shot comes in.
17:48The ball is at the back of the net.
17:50Dublin have got the opening goal.
17:52The tenth minute sees Dublin lead 1-3 to 3.
17:55Before Galway start working their way into the game.
17:58For a while, it wasn't looking so good for Galway there.
18:01They struggled, but they're eventually getting into the game.
18:03The sides will go in level at the break here in Kenny Park.
18:06We went out and went after our game plan.
18:09Forwards.
18:10Ashmar up there.
18:11I've never seen you work as hard.
18:12It's about that work rate.
18:13It's about dying on your shield.
18:14Going out and making sure every fucking tackle they know a Dublin jersey is in their face.
18:18Level game.
18:19Put your hand in the fire.
18:20See how long you can fucking hold it there.
18:21That's what it's all about.
18:22Up and now everybody!
18:23Let's go!
18:24Come on Lee!
18:25Come on!
18:26That's way better work by Galway.
18:27Absolutely, yeah.
18:28They're doing to Dublin what Dublin were doing to Galway.
18:29Not allowing them the seconds to get on the ball.
18:30And Galway take the lead.
18:31The scores have dried up now.
18:32They haven't scored since half time.
18:33Dublin need a goal at this stage.
18:34Coming towards the dying numbers now.
18:36Full-time with some goals here.
18:37Galway 15 points.
18:38Dublin one goal at six.
18:41That game was ours.
18:42We should have been well ahead at half time.
18:44And we should have been fucking out of sight in the second half.
18:46But we dropped our levels.
18:47Good teams will do that to you.
18:49We have a nice little grudge match coming up now in two weeks' time.
18:52We are going to have to go hard and fall put the end of the game.
18:54But it was just a little hard time.
18:56We want to be happy.
18:57We want to go hard and go hard and go hard.
18:58They're getting a little bit too.
18:59Yeah.
19:00Well then, we're getting a little bit too late.
19:01But they're getting a little bit too late.
19:02They're getting a little bit too late.
19:03But there's getting more than a little bit too late now.
19:04up now in two weeks time we are gonna have to go again kill kenny kill kenny kill kenny
19:16coming out here definitely when it's so quiet i have to take this time
19:22in order to balance everything out and just literally reset
19:25the main idea to come here is try and work on the basic skills there's no margin for error in
19:37championships so coming here definitely helps me work on all the sharpness side of things first
19:42touch catching the ball making sure that it sticks every time and improving on striking as well
19:50i definitely feel that things are slowly coming together i think we're shaping up well we definitely
19:55have a competitive squad from the outside the goal is to win an all-ireland final if you're focusing
20:01your mindset on that all the time like that's the outcome we're trying to focus solely on the process
20:08at the moment and if we get the performance that we're looking for well then no team will be able
20:14to beat us what's our schedule will have you next week i'm not sure it'll definitely be tuesday thursday
20:24so we might be able to do something on saturday what way are you training just saturday we're
20:28training monday we've the gym wednesday we're training thursday and then we have a match saturday
20:35monday wednesday thursday saturday and i'm training tuesday thursday sunday so i get to see you on
20:40friday at some stage if you're lucky if i'm lucky i live in nina county to ferrari i live with my boyfriend
20:48kevin he plays senior with drum and inch we have a kind of granny flat for ourselves no granny just us
20:53we're just delighted we can live here we can save makes a massive difference rather than being out
20:57renting somewhere my whole life revolves around camogie what time i spend with kevin my nutrition
21:03my sleep how i plan my week you know even really teaching itself i probably picked that for summers off
21:09and being able to go to trainings in the evening it's just kind of where i feel my best i feel myself so
21:14it's definitely the biggest part of my life you know it shapes everything else but i don't think
21:20i would change it for the world at the same time i joined tip seniors in 2016 so this is my
21:25ninth year with the seniors it feels like it's gone in the blink of an eye in the championship we've
21:30lost at all our in semis now for i think the last five or six years so it's it's been heartbreaking
21:37the days after it can be very difficult you know you question why am i doing this but then you pick
21:44yourself up again and you just think what's my end goal and you know if i can retire having climbed the
21:49steps of the hogan stand and and lifting you know an all-ireland trophy for differeri i think it'll make
21:54everything worth it so you get back on the horse then and you're back and you're in pre-season
21:59running your heart out and it all starts again
22:07you see all car camogey galway camogey kilkenny winning all ireland and you dream of that day it's
22:12something you've dreamed of since you're only a small little girl out poking in in the garden and
22:17all the long hours you know the grind that you put in even like the mental battles that you have i think
22:24it would just it'll make it all all worth it yes that's it great turn great change your feet good
22:29any given year that dream is always in your head and i think that drives you on that little bit more
22:34as well you know you kind of allow yourself to to feel those emotions and you know they realize then
22:40how much you want it and you really fight and make that stream a reality the team's starting on
22:45saturday for cork especially last two years we're building that heart we're building a little bit too
22:50much hurt now we need to start using it but it does make such a difference i think to a team and
22:55it you know it gives you motivation and that drive serial semi-finalists but yet to play in a final
23:03tips current grip are determined to go all the way this season overcoming last year's finalists
23:09galway in a warm-up game has them believing that they're in a good place not only did we turn around
23:15our performance we turned it around and we got the win okay there's our evidence that adam's talking
23:19about yeah it's not about oh i have to get the next score it's about thinking what can i do whether
23:24it's a hook a block a bit of hard work that's what changes the game for us yeah yeah this is where we
23:29look back what when we're down six plus points at one stage and we turn around and we won by two okay
23:34that's what we look back on there half of it is organizations i mean we're all working so
23:38hard but just being in the right place is key all right so well done that was excellent
23:42but with the championship just a week away there's unwelcome news for tip as forward clodagh
23:52mcintyre is struggling to be ready for their opening match against cork
23:58exactly a week ago i felt a really sharp discomfort and straight away my range of motion in my ankle was
24:07completely restricted i was able to get a scan here in clinic it was all really simple exercises in
24:13the meantime restoring the range trying to rebuild the strength i was not able to hop at all on it
24:19my jump height overall is still down our first rep was 14 then i went to 12 then i went to 8 so i'm
24:25nowhere near where championship pace would require over here in the rag in tip our home ground and on
24:37saturday we're going to be taking on cork in our first round of the all-earned championship white
24:42white and yellow and on both sides it's huge for us and it'll be important to get a good start cork
24:47it would be a challenge they're all-earned champions they're an incredible team and they're playing
24:50exceptionally well at the moment we've a lot to do to beat them here but really to be honest we're
24:55just looking at a performance ourselves we want to turn into that little bit of a bastard now again
25:00for the next couple of days right no no no like all of us right guys coming from behind now take that
25:07support run hey good work that's sharp that's sharp good well no fall to hand run that's it good
25:12while we have been training hard you've kind of core members of the team missing so it's a little bit
25:17disjointed at the moment i kind of said to michael right claudia sounds like she wants to start
25:22but we can't do that anymore next week that's no yeah sexy growth mindset you're growing i'm not sure
25:31it's all positive it's all happening and the sharks have arrived oh my goodness yeah you're very welcome
25:39to the rag for the clash of tipperary against cork after a bye in the first round tip's first match comes
25:46against champions of hot favorites cork who ruthlessly defeated limerick in their opening match
25:52it's an opportunity for tip to test themselves against the best
25:58we have to go for this bald header today let's take this to cork now come on first round the
26:03championship in your home ground this is what we train for so while there's nerves you have to look
26:08at the perspective too of how lucky you are to be going out there especially when you look at the
26:10injuries that we have and the girls who won't be able to take the field so i'm buzzing for it and i'm
26:14i'm really looking forward to putting a hopefully a good performance the ball is in the game is on
26:18and away we go after tip score the first point cork take the initiative and score three goals
26:27and the shell shock tipperary team go into half time with a mountain to climb soccer punch for tipperary
26:34we've just got a dressing girls now the heads are down we're all disappointed we're all disgusted
26:40and i'm asking each and every one of you now are we going to accept that for the next half
26:46that jersey that's on your back girls that crest on your chest we know what it means to you we
26:50know the passion it's in it whatever happens girls think about what to head girls you have
26:54wexford limerick and clear the whole championship structure that opens us up to get into an all
26:59ireland quarterfinal this is what we're about girls we never give up we never stop start our year
27:05start our fucking year together now come on all right cork really put on an absolute show in that
27:09first half good start to the second half in tipperary but they have a long long way to go tip begin to
27:15close the gap in the second half but by the end of the game cork are convincing winners 321 to 19
27:23what a marker cork have put down unbelievable scoring from this cork machine this is a fair kick in the
27:29hole but we definitely have to do a bit of soul searching now wexford they were beaten as well today
27:34means all we have to go to wexford next weekend there's never one handy down there so it's knock
27:38out from here on in now there's a position to finish in this group in second place we can feel
27:43sorry for ourselves we can have the heads down or we can turn around and we can set the thing right
27:48now for wexford next weekend followed by limerick followed by clear and get ourselves into that all
27:52ireland quarterfinal above and crow park on the 7th of july
27:54on the same weekend another game between two serious championship hopefuls is taking place
28:06in the other qualifying group where waterford will travel to kilkenny
28:12for me at the moment i have arthritis in my bones i've tendonitis my achilles i've broken finger if i
28:20could train every night in the week i would but then i know my performance or my energy levels or
28:24my body will not thank me on a saturday when we're trying to play a match i'm at that age now that it's
28:30in your head but i'm trying to put it to the back of my head because i don't want to make my decision
28:36before the year ends i want to make my decision when the year is over and decide from there but it's
28:43upsetting because you don't you don't ever really want it to end for me i'm just trying to enjoy what
28:51i have now because for the rest of my life i'll never have this again so just trying to make the
28:56best of it while kitty power approaches the end of her career her club mate sophie holden is making
29:03her first steps at championship level for me going into my first championship it's a lot different to
29:09playing with her club you have a lot more going on in the background but like gym nutrition training
29:13organizing like going straight from work to training like people don't see that side of it
29:17either that like you don't maybe get home till 10 at night so like there's huge commitment with it
29:22so there is katie has been a huge influence on me
29:31kilkenny's opponent waterford face a tough task never in history have they beaten kilkenny in the
29:36championship this is my niece leisha she's always out fucking with me you ready oh where are that
29:51that one look at that one that's my daughter now all right where are we going outside
30:00sport is a big part of the family it's a day out on the drive home we stop for something to eat
30:06it's analysis we meet all that night there's analysis if she had a good game we can talk to
30:11she had a bad game keep away from it tomorrow i want to see croke park this year i definitely want
30:15to see it yeah you came back from canada to play so let's get there yeah the plan must go for a year or
30:22two but then i got sick but i think they even said to me they're like we know you would have came back
30:28i was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and they told me i'd be gone in september i'm going nowhere
30:34i'm only going to go back that's where i'm going to be going to i was delighted to see her come home
30:38i was disappointed to see her come home because of me i made the decision i stick by it and i'm glad
30:44i came home to achieve something at that level it's unbelievable the commitment they're putting
30:48in since christmas like these are all young girls in their 20s and they're putting their whole life
30:53on hold they're putting there would be a dieting or going to the gym or relationships everything is on
30:58hold for this one team it's that day in croke park and that's what we're all aiming for and the pros man
31:05in the world
31:12right okay helmets yeah shorts
31:16yeah socks no score no sparks we're training since december or january
31:22and it all comes down to this that's where you want to be you want to be a non-arm and foil in pro park
31:33the kenny just never ever give up it could be ahead by seven eight points and they still go
31:40full throttle like they just they're the team that just never give up on anything
31:45some of the older girls like they just bring so much experience
31:48like there's kelly power i think her presence alone just boost the team in general we've never
31:53beaten them in championships senior championship before like the last few years we were there
31:57thereabouts there was a point or two or you know you go in half time level and they come out in the
32:02second half and they're just absolutely tear you apart
32:05the danger
32:10hi how are you going here's nice nice hi feel set yes do you have snacks um not too much
32:17sorry my legs my arms are different color no you're washing down at the florid
32:23it's all about the tan when it comes to championship yeah it is yeah
32:26I think I overpacked. I don't really need four hurleys, but sure.
32:34Four? Yeah, I better leave back.
32:50A lot of steps in the ladder this year. This is the first step. This is the one we're going to take.
32:54We're going to drive it on from the very off.
32:55Whatever happens, give a draw. Work your fucking socks off.
33:01Huge game for both teams. Everything is just so tight here.
33:04Both teams are really fighting for everything.
33:06A hotly contested and physical game sees Waterford start to edge ahead in the first half
33:11before pulling away in the second.
33:13But Carton puts it in and Waterford went through that Kilkenny defence like a hot knife through hard butter.
33:20And Waterford have beaten Kilkenny in their own backyard here.
33:23Waterford 17 points, Kilkenny 10 points.
33:26First time in Bettman Championship, so we're absolutely delighted, but the work doesn't end here.
33:31Absolutely super. Well done. Well done. Well done, girls. Great stop. Well done.
33:34Waterford's win takes them one step closer to the knockout phases, while Katie Powers' Kilkenny have an uncertain future.
33:42Back in Tip, defeat to Cork has been a bitter blow.
33:48And now they have to regroup for a must-win game in their quest to get to the knockout stages.
33:54Saturday was very disappointing.
33:58I think it's worse just watching it and seeing the team crumble a little bit,
34:05because Cork were just nearly winning every battle on the field.
34:11We need to really come together. There's literally no time to be playing like that anymore.
34:19It's hard to have a kind of a positive spin on it.
34:21You know, we lost considerably to Cork, and they were excellent on the day.
34:25They're nearly better than they were this time last year, which is hard to beat,
34:28considering they're the two-time modern and champions.
34:30So, for ourselves, it's just you win or you learn.
34:34We really need to take the learnings from it.
34:37This Saturday we're playing Wexford, so we're going in really craving a good performance.
34:43And sometimes after a very crap performance, a very good one will follow,
34:47and that's what I'm really hoping.
34:51We're not where we want to be.
34:52We don't have that kind of confidence in ourselves at the moment.
34:56We're not playing extremely well, but we still have a couple of games to go,
34:59so it's going to be another tough task.
35:02I come up here most days a week.
35:04It's time by yourself. You can think things through.
35:06If you're thick, you know, usually you'll come out of here feeling a bit better.
35:09So I find this kind of really therapeutic.
35:13It's nice sometimes Clodagh and the girls will come up
35:15and we'll practice a few things together, which is lovely as well.
35:22That's it. Take it on. Take it on. That's it. Take it on. Go on.
35:26So we're in formerly known as St. Pat's College.
35:30It's nice to have a home because we have St. Joseph's Bursalee,
35:32but it's a small astro, but you can't beat training on grass.
35:36And we haven't had that luxury for the last good number of years,
35:39so it could probably be a home for Tipcomogee for a good number of years to come.
35:43It's definitely disappointing Cork performed at their peak.
35:47We probably didn't perform to where we wanted to be.
35:50We have ten weeks left, so it's about really now everyone digging in
35:53and putting shoulders to the wheel and having the right good cut at it.
35:56There was a kickback tonight.
35:57This kick needs to go on to Exxon now on Saturday.
35:59OK? Well done tonight.
36:05To secure a good quarter-final berth, Tip want to come second in their group,
36:09so they'll need to win the rest of their matches and next up they'll travel to Wexford.
36:13Keep going, keep going. It's every ball, every position.
36:15Now is the time to kick on.
36:17No mercy, no mercy.
36:18Keep driving it down. Let's go.
36:29Very different feelings last weekend, isn't it?
36:31We needed that in our big time.
36:33I think we just needed to remind ourselves it's first round of the championship.
36:35You're not going to be firing on all cylinders and, you know,
36:38Cork are a team that you need to beat them once in a year
36:41and, you know, you want that once to really, really count, I suppose.
36:44It's great. We can build on that now.
36:53Kilkelly's first-ever championship loss to Waterford
36:55has left their hopes in jeopardy.
36:59It was our first home game
37:01and we thought we'd prepared extremely well.
37:04Obviously, everyone's disappointed when you lose a game,
37:08but the manner that we lost, like,
37:10it just wasn't us
37:11and that was the most disappointing thing.
37:15So, after that game, like, there was a lot of soul-searching now.
37:18Like, it was a tough week put down, like,
37:21sleepless nights.
37:22For myself, I was questioning, like,
37:25where are we going?
37:26Like, you know, you're really setting out your stall
37:29in the championship against one of the top teams
37:31and they wipe the board with you
37:32and you're like,
37:32where's this season going to go first?
37:34Like, so, look,
37:35Dublin are probably one,
37:37if not the most physical team,
37:38in Camoggi at the moment.
37:40We lose the weekend
37:41or championship's over, like,
37:43either go hiding
37:44or you come out fighting.
37:49After losing to Waterford,
37:51Kilkenny must bounce back
37:53with a win against Dublin
37:54or risk their championship dreams ending early.
37:56I know we'd be giving out
37:58about Dublin and all that,
37:59but you have to admire them
38:00they haven't won a match all fucking year.
38:02So, you'd be wondering
38:03where to get this cockiness from.
38:05But in fairness to them, like,
38:06they're able to back it up.
38:07They're very committed
38:08and they're very competitive as well.
38:10We've a great chance here.
38:12Absolutely can go to town
38:13on these out of the weekend.
38:15Are you feeling sure
38:15there's some shooting, Tommy,
38:16as that is?
38:16Oh, yes.
38:17We'll fucking do it, sir.
38:19We'll fucking shoot on Saturday.
38:21That's all that matters.
38:24You know the drill.
38:25We're going to stare with the ball
38:26along the ground.
38:27Let's attack it up here.
38:28Fire it back.
38:29Dublin, having lost already to Galway,
38:32are in a similar position to Kilkenny,
38:34so the upcoming game between them is crucial.
38:38This is probably the biggest game of our season.
38:41Kilkenny last year,
38:42we managed to get the better of them in Croke Park
38:44and, you know,
38:45they'll have the bit between their teeth
38:46trying to rectify that
38:47and they have done the two times
38:49we've played them this year already
38:50in the league and in Leinster.
38:52They got the better of us,
38:52so we know we have to improve
38:54and that improvement needs to
38:57be a big step forward
38:59if we're going to get the better
39:00of what is a very good Kilkenny team,
39:01so that's the aim.
39:03Katie, power, centre-back.
39:05We want to take power out again.
39:06Yeah.
39:06Okay.
39:06So obviously,
39:07knees are all that anchor
39:08when we're attacking
39:10and we can recycle the ball to.
39:12The hamstring injury that I had,
39:13I'm fully cleared now,
39:14so I'm delighted
39:15that I'm actually able to start
39:16on Saturday.
39:18We haven't had, obviously,
39:19the most ideal season.
39:20We actually haven't won a match yet.
39:22That belief is there
39:22because we know
39:23even in the matches that we lost,
39:25they were tight.
39:26We know that it was within our control.
39:27Good and nothing.
39:29Dublin's injury-ravage season continues
39:31with vice-captain Astley Marr in doubt
39:33for the game against Kilkenny.
39:35I can feel it there.
39:37It's just trying to balance
39:40pushing it
39:41so you have a little bit of tolerance and load,
39:42but then also just not being silly
39:44and wasting risk.
39:46Yeah, that's what's frustrating about this,
39:48I think, more so than anything else.
39:49It's really not that bad an injury.
39:51If we had four to six weeks
39:53to do this now,
39:55it'd be no problem at all.
39:56It's just the worst possible timing.
39:58We're all too nice to each other.
40:00Happen to fall to each other.
40:01For the pivotal game against Dublin,
40:03Kilkenny make changes
40:04and Sophie Holden
40:06gets her first championship start
40:07for the county.
40:08With the team,
40:09there is huge competition
40:11and training with positions.
40:12The good times are over.
40:14Swatch it, swatch it.
40:16That's the pace.
40:16What's up,
40:18the next one.
40:19Over, over.
40:21This is a big game for us.
40:22We do need to win it.
40:23I'm going to go out
40:23and make my mark.
40:25You're going there.
40:26You keep going to the middle.
40:29Let's just say, right,
40:30Ashley Mara's,
40:30see the red cone there?
40:32Right, that's Ashley Mara.
40:32She goes straight through for goal, right?
40:33When you cross that 21,
40:36you've got to nail Ashley Mara.
40:37In any run,
40:38like, she can't go past three or four.
40:40So you have to realise
40:41where the danger is
40:41and go for it.
40:42This is a must-win game.
40:45So, like,
40:45if you feel that pressure,
40:47use it as fuel.
40:48The only people
40:49that understand
40:50our journey
40:51that we've been on so far
40:52is us.
40:53And we know
40:54we were dealing
40:54with a load of shit in here.
40:55We hadn't got our management stuff right.
40:57We hadn't got anywhere near
40:58a best first 15 on the pitch.
40:59We were trying to get people fit
41:00and it wasn't a Dublin team
41:02that's representative
41:02of the town
41:03that's in this room now.
41:04It's the now or never now.
41:07Just have a right going, okay?
41:08And that's all you want.
41:09As I said,
41:10you don't mind getting bet
41:11once you go down
41:12shouting, bawling
41:13and fucking screaming.
41:14That's all you want
41:14for each and every one of you, okay?
41:16Yeah, we do have to win.
41:17That's why you fucking play.
41:18You play because you want to win.
41:20Not only do we have to win,
41:21we will win.
41:22And that's the end of it.
41:31Dublin's bad luck continues
41:32as Aisling Marr
41:33doesn't make it back
41:34in time for the match.
41:36She's a leader on and off the field.
41:38She's going to be sorely missed
41:39but we have to drive on.
41:40Massive, massive fucking game.
41:42Think about all that preparation
41:44that went into getting here.
41:45That's the pressure of today.
41:47Welcome to the biggest
41:49humdinger game
41:49that we've had
41:50of the championship.
41:53Dublin have the opening score here.
41:55And now here's a chance
41:56it's going to be Prendergast.
41:57One and one.
41:58Getting in
41:58and knocks it to the back of the net.
42:00Having a shot at the pause,
42:02it's over.
42:02What a bar.
42:03Sophie Hall
42:03sets up barcode.
42:04Lovely score.
42:05Kick any sniff blood
42:06and win kick any sniff blood
42:07they go for it.
42:09Kilkelly might be ahead
42:10in the second half
42:11but doubling of other ideas.
42:14Both teams wanting
42:15to take that step closer
42:16to the knockout stages.
42:18O'Neill still going
42:19go for a low shot.
42:20Back in and in.
42:21Exactly what the doctor ordered.
42:24We have a game on now.
42:25Good to see.
42:26That's what we came for.
42:27Yeah, now it's the closest
42:28we've had.
42:28118 to 114.
42:30Referee decides
42:31if that's it.
42:33119, 114.
42:34His job done for Kilkenny
42:35and you know,
42:36in fairness to Dublin,
42:37they took it after him.
42:38They'll be hoping
42:38Ashimar is back fit
42:39and will need her
42:40against Waterford.
42:41That is a sickening
42:42fucking loss there.
42:43We have a big game
42:44coming up in two weeks' time.
42:45Delighted with the win.
42:47We have two weeks now
42:47to Galway
42:48and you know,
42:48they're a different animal
42:49all together.
42:50We'll just put the heads down
42:51and focus
42:52and see what we can do.
42:55Good.
42:56We're setting that corner now,
42:57Niamh.
42:57We're low.
42:58And get there,
42:59Shebaile.
42:59You're turning ready.
43:00Turning ready.
43:01You're turning ready.
43:02Having lost to Kilkenny,
43:04Dublin now need a win
43:05against high-flying Waterford
43:07plus some luck
43:08to make it to the quarterfinals
43:10this season.
43:11I'm just hoping
43:12nothing snaps.
43:16Next match is bubbling
43:18and that'll be a tough game.
43:19They're not going to fear
43:20anything against us.
43:21They have to win this one.
43:22They have to win.
43:23That's what I'm saying.
43:23We have a target
43:24on our backs there
43:25because they have to win.
43:25They're coming out to win.
43:27That's it, mate.
43:27And I think
43:28whatever's put in front of you,
43:29you're going to rally around
43:30as a team.
43:31It's not over
43:32until it's over.
43:33I definitely think
43:33we're going to win Kloppel.
43:35Booked already.
43:36Kilkenny was such a big
43:38monkey off our backs.
43:39It's like,
43:40you know you've bet
43:40one of the tough teams.
43:42So it's like,
43:42why not go on
43:43and keep doing it?
43:44Dublin are a tough team.
43:46You never know
43:47what they're going
43:47to throw at you.
43:48You just never know
43:49what way it's going to go.
43:55Obviously,
43:55if we don't beat Waterford,
43:56we don't have a chance
43:57of progressing to quarterfinals.
43:58So the injury
43:59has to take the backseat
44:00a little bit.
44:02So we're going to try
44:04and do a return to play
44:04over the next
44:05eight days at this stage.
44:07Give yourself the best chance,
44:08trying to balance
44:08not being stupid
44:10by going back
44:10and doing too much
44:11too quick,
44:12but also just trying
44:12to move that little bit
44:13faster through return to play.
44:16You know,
44:16you get to this point
44:17of the championship
44:17and you're playing
44:18a knockout game
44:19and if you're not willing
44:20to take a chance on that,
44:20then sure,
44:22what's the point
44:22of putting in the
44:23months and the years
44:24before that?
44:26But this is a massive game
44:27for both Dublin and Waterford.
44:29If they lose that,
44:30their championship is over.
44:30We have to play in two matches
44:31to get no respect.
44:33We've got any
44:33Kilkenny newspaper
44:34that's saying
44:34Kilkenny,
44:35if you don't know what to do,
44:35so we're back
44:36to where we are.
44:37Now is the time
44:38to go out
44:38and prove yourself the game.
44:40Need to get the ball
44:41past our 65
44:42in our hand,
44:44in our possession.
44:45I don't care how you do it,
44:46but that's what we need to do.
44:48I'm not trying to be
44:48overly stupid about it,
44:49but I think, like,
44:51realistically,
44:51we need to win this game
44:52to have a chance
44:54of keeping
44:54the championship alive, so.
44:56I'll let Gifra
44:56update you properly anyway
44:57and give you
44:58your perspective
44:59and, like,
45:00my intention is to
45:00take a chance,
45:02make myself available,
45:03see how we go.
45:04Do you think 60 minutes?
45:0640% chance
45:07she makes it
45:07through 60 minutes.
45:08Like, we're accelerating
45:09a 60-degree injury
45:10in three weeks
45:11and it's like a zip
45:12and a jumper,
45:12like, it can go further.
45:14She knows what she's...
45:14She knows the risk.
45:15I think it's too big
45:17a game for us.
45:18Rather play and
45:18break down
45:19and feel you've tried
45:20than look back
45:21and think,
45:22you know,
45:22what if?
45:24It's do or die
45:25and we know that.
45:26We've been
45:27in situations like that
45:28in the past
45:28and it's always
45:29brought out the best in us.
45:30You know,
45:30every faith in the team.
45:32I think we know ourselves
45:33that we're probably
45:35being viewed as underdogs
45:36and we'll just actually
45:36use that
45:37to our advantage
45:38on Sardy.
45:39From the get-go,
45:56we attack this.
45:58We make it our time.
46:04There's moments
46:05in your life
46:05you've got to take
46:06that opportunity.
46:07Come on, D'Aisha.
46:08Come on.
46:09Welcome to the
46:10Sunday 30.
46:11Dublin's season
46:12comes down to this.
46:13If they don't win,
46:15their championship
46:15is over.
46:19Let's ball,
46:20we're done!
46:21With three points
46:22in the first 90 seconds,
46:24Dublin get off
46:25to a blistering start.
46:31But it isn't long
46:32until Waterford come back.
46:33The goal from Annie Fitzgerald
46:39on 10 minutes
46:40really turned the toy
46:41in Waterford's favour.
46:44It was a tight game
46:45for a lot of us.
46:47I don't think I ever thought
46:48throughout that game
46:49we were going to lose it,
46:49to be honest.
46:51At the start of the second half,
46:53Waterford are five points ahead.
46:55That eight unanswered points
46:56have pushed Waterford now
46:57into a nine-point lead.
46:59Yes!
47:00Dublin fight to the bitter end,
47:01but it's Waterford who go on
47:03to the knockout stages.
47:04Yeah!
47:05Yeah!
47:29That's curtains
47:30for our hopes of going forward.
47:32We've had to learn
47:32the same lesson three times
47:33that when we're not added
47:35for the full 60,
47:36we don't get the result.
47:37So, it's just massively disappointing
47:39for all of us in this circle.
47:41I can see it in faces.
47:44The work, the commitment
47:45that went into this year,
47:48it just shows you
47:48how cruel the sport can be.
47:51We have to learn,
47:52we have to improve.
47:53Throughout the season,
47:54there was constantly another chance.
47:55We're going to turn this around.
47:57Then when you get to the end
47:57of that Waterford match,
47:58there's no other opportunity
47:59and now you actually have to reflect
48:01and think back
48:02and there's a massive finality in it all.
48:06Part of sport is that sometimes
48:07things break your way
48:08and sometimes they don't.
48:09I'm proud of the effort
48:10the girls put up.
48:11I'm proud of the fact
48:12we didn't lie down
48:13that we put up a good fight.
48:14Komogi has given so much to me
48:17at every level.
48:18I just feel really privileged
48:20to be part of it.
48:25And while Dublin
48:26waved goodbye to the Championship
48:28and Waterford march on,
48:30elsewhere Galway defeat Kilkenny,
48:33meaning Kilkenny head
48:34to the quarterfinals.
48:35Great, Katie,
48:36you have no time
48:37to feel sorry for yourself.
48:39You've not earned
48:39the quarterfinal in two weeks
48:41in Crow Park.
48:42Get yourself ready for this now.
48:44And for Galway,
48:45it sets up a winner-takes-all
48:47encounter with Waterford
48:48to see who wins the group
48:50and heads directly
48:51to the semifinals.
48:53Yeah, look,
48:53it's great to be in the knockout stages
48:55and the Championship again.
48:56Listen, Waterford are a huge stretcher,
48:57a savage team.
48:58The last two or three times
48:59we've played them,
49:00it's only been a pint or two in it
49:01and it could have gone either way.
49:02So we have to perform
49:03really, really high level next week.
49:04We're happy where we are,
49:05but it counts for not knowing
49:06if you don't finish the job next week.
