MacKenzie Scott has donated more than $19 billion

Billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has donated an eye-popping $19.25 billion since 2020.

00:00Mackenzie Scott's philanthropy has surpassed more than $19 billion,

00:04but it's barely made a dent in her net worth because of the power of her Amazon shares.

00:08Already this fall, Scott has donated around $816 million.

00:13Some of Scott's largest donations went to Howard University,

00:17Morgan State University, and Winston-Salem State University.

00:21In 2019, Scott pledged to give away most of her wealth,

00:24and to date, she has given 36% of her net worth, according to Forbes.

00:28Upon her divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos,

00:31she received roughly a 4% stake in the company,

00:34which amounted to roughly 139 million shares at the time.

00:38And while she continues selling and donating her shares, her wealth continues to grow.

00:42Year to date, she's added $1.15 billion to her net worth,

00:46according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

00:49And since November 2020, Amazon share prices have jumped more than 42%.

00:54Scott's gifts are unusual in the fact that they're unrestricted,

00:57meaning the organizations can choose how to use the donations.
