Central Asian leaders welcome Azerbaijan as new member at historic summit

00:08Leaders unanimously approved the accession of Azerbaijan as a full member of the format.
00:13As the president of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Merzioev described, it's a step that opens a new phase
00:19of cooperation and helping shape a unified space between Central Asia and the South Caucasus.
00:26In his address, the president outlined seven key priorities for advancing what he called
00:32a new Central Asia.
00:33He highlighted rapid progress in regional integration, noting that borders have reopened, territorial
00:40issues have been resolved and cooperation in energy, transport and trade is expanding.
00:46Mutual trade has now reached $10.7 billion, with investment growing by 17 percent.
00:54Azerbaijan's president Ilham Aliyev stressed that, although his country is geographically
00:59located in the South Caucasus, intensive cooperation has led to the formation of a shared geopolitical
01:05and geoeconomic space with Central Asia.
01:08On his side, the president of Kazakhstan, Kasim Jamar Tokayev, stressed, among others, the prospects
01:14for cooperation in the field of rare earth metal mining.
01:18On Saturday, the presidents of Central Asia and Azerbaijan had the opportunity to visit
01:24the brand-new Center for Islamic Civilization in the city of Tashkent.
01:29They all emphasized the importance of strengthening cultural and civilizational ties between the
01:35countries of the region.
