00:26¡I do have a habit of poking it
00:28¡And squeezing it!
00:30¡Very uncomfortable!

01:00¡This week in the clinic!
01:06¡Oh!
01:08¡The patients are misbehaving!
01:10¡Can I just scratch my eye?
01:11¡No!
01:14¡Mischievous!
01:15¡Hopefully you're not planning on doing one of these yourself!
01:17¡I'm quite good at the siren!
01:18¡What about the cutting bit?
01:20¡And a little bit cheeky!
01:22¡Can I touch you?
01:23¡Do you want some gloves?
01:24¡I don't need gloves!
01:25¡No you do!
01:26The Skin A&E team are switched on
01:35¡Oh!
01:37¡It's that one!
01:38Ready to rock and roll
01:39¡Disco!
01:40For a jam-packed day at the clinic!
01:44We all ready?
01:45My name's Louise, I'm 67 years young
01:51I live in a cottage in the countryside
01:55with my partner and our son
01:58and we rear pigs
02:00Have a seat for me
02:01I'll let you know when the doctor's ready for you, okay?
02:03Lovely, thank you
02:04No problem
02:04I like to sew leather items
02:08pouches and things for tools
02:10I make a lot of my own clothes
02:13I think I do live the good life
02:15Down the hall, on your left
02:17Thank you very much
02:18No problem
02:18Ready to see Louise is Dr. Adil Shiraz
02:22Come in
02:23Hello
02:24Hello
02:25Hello
02:26Come to us Louise, is it?
02:28That's right, yes
02:29Come to take a seat, Louise
02:29Thank you
02:30Thank you
02:31Good, right
02:32What are we doing for you today?
02:33Well, basically I've got lots of lumps and bumps
02:36Okay
02:36On my arms
02:37But they've multiplied over the years
02:41So when did you notice your first one?
02:44About 10 or 11 years ago
02:45I just find them a pain in the arms
02:49They irritate
02:52They get in the way
02:54They stop me sleeping well
02:56And I just think that I would be better off without them
03:01How else do they bother you?
03:02What do they prevent you from doing that you would otherwise
03:05They prevent me from going round like this
03:07I don't usually wear anything sleeveless
03:10And it's irritating that people ask me about it, to be honest
03:14I'd rather they just didn't notice
03:16I feel that I've changed since I've had them
03:22That I'm less outward going
03:24I just like to keep within my own bubble, my family
03:28And stay at home
03:30It makes life a bit easier
03:32And how many do you have? Have you counted?
03:36I did at one point
03:38I think probably about a dozen over the two arms
03:40Okay
03:41So you would rather replace those lumps with scars?
03:44Oh, definitely
03:45What we'll do is
03:47We'll get you on the couch
03:48I'll have a quick look
03:49They always say
03:51Don't put off till tomorrow
03:52What you can do today
03:53So here we go
03:56Let's see
03:56I'll have to take that out
03:58Because I won't be able to
03:59Right, let's start marking these
04:04And see where they are
04:05So we've got one
04:06Just there
04:08The first one was on my wrist
04:11Which stopped me wearing a watch
04:12I tried wearing it on the other hand
04:14But that didn't work
04:15Okay, let's turn your hand over
04:17To quite a few here
04:19I think more than what you think
04:21Dr. Shruss is an expert finding them
04:24Let's have a look
04:26One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
04:30Nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen
04:34You've got thirteen on one arm
04:35Before you had a dozen on both
04:36We haven't even started
04:38Not very good at counting
04:39Let's come on to the other side now
04:43Let's just have a look
04:43When patients develop lipomas
04:45They can develop multiple
04:47Particularly in the arms and the legs
04:48One, two, three, four, five, six, seven
04:51Eight, nine, ten, eleven
04:54Twelve, thirteen
04:57On this side as well
04:57Well either way I lied to you
04:59When I said there was about twelve
05:00There is a limit to how much anaesthetic
05:03One can have too much anaesthetic
05:05Which also contains adrenaline
05:07Will have an impact on the heart
05:08My plan was essentially
05:10To try to get rid of the ones
05:11That were more noticeable
05:12Or the ones that were causing her
05:14The most bother
05:14Would you rather do one arm?
05:17I think it's both arm
05:19Okay
05:20So one, two, three, four, five, six
05:26I'll say another one here
05:27Seven
05:28When the doctor said
05:31That he was going to do seven
05:32I was, well I was pleased
05:34He was going to do any
05:35We'll try to do as many as we can
05:37As long as we're within
05:38That safe limit of anaesthetic
05:40Okay
05:40Most of them were quite superficial
05:42This usually means
05:43That you don't need too much anaesthetic
05:45In each individual lipoma
05:47It will sting
05:48As the injection goes in
05:49That's probably the worst bit actually
05:51It is the worst bit
05:51Yeah
05:52How's that?
06:00Okay
06:00Not too bad?
06:03No, not too bad at all actually
06:04So we'll come up here now
06:06Okay
06:07I decided that I'd like
06:11If I had the procedure
06:12To watch
06:13Because I've always been interested
06:15In seeing it
06:16On other people
06:17And often wondered
06:18What it would be like
06:20To have it done to myself
06:21Be interested to see
06:22What little nasties are in there
06:24At the end of the day
06:26It's part of my body
06:27Even though it was a bit
06:28That had gone a bit wrong
06:30I wanted to see it go
06:32Right, where do you want to start?
06:35The wrist
06:35That's always bugged me the most
06:37Okay
06:38Ready?
06:38Yep
06:39Feel sharp?
06:45No
06:46That's the right answer
06:48There it is
06:52Can you see it
06:53Trying to come out?
06:54I can
06:54Amazing
06:58There we go
06:59I knew it was big
07:02A little bugger
07:04Oh, she wouldn't say things like that
07:06So that's just fat in there
07:08Is it?
07:09That's fat, yeah
07:09I've often wondered how you do that
07:17Because you sort of knot it, don't you?
07:21Your sutures?
07:22Yeah
07:22Yeah
07:22Ah, I see
07:25It's like when I do my hand sewing
07:27You do a double loop
07:29And then pass it through, don't you?
07:31That's exactly
07:32Ah, now I know
07:33Louise was very experienced in stitching and sewing
07:39So I felt a bit under pressure
07:41I had to make sure I gave her my best work
07:43Hopefully you're not planning on doing one of these yourself
07:46Why would you let me try on you?
07:48No
07:48I'm quite good at sewing
07:52What about the cutting bit?
07:59There we go
07:59Well, they're quite forthcoming, aren't they, so far?
08:04Yeah
08:04Not bad at all
08:05Behaving
08:06That's what we want
08:09Well-behaved ones
08:10Ah
08:10Well, not likely from me
08:14But I'm quite
08:15Now, so far they've been good
08:17So far
08:17I wouldn't count your chickens
08:19We're definitely going to need
08:21A couple more of these sutures
08:24Okay, fine
08:25A couple more
08:33I need a little bit of loosening
08:44What's it, touch deeper down?
08:49This is a little bit deeper, yeah
08:50Quite good at this, aren't you?
08:54I have done it once before
08:56The more messy ones
08:58Where they had fragmented bits on them
09:01I don't know
09:03It looked a bit like a scrambled egg, I suppose
09:05Still doesn't want to let go, does it?
09:09No
09:10I want to try and get the whole thing out in one
09:13Rather than break it up
09:15Because then you sort of know that you've got it all
09:17That's left quite a big dent in there, hasn't it?
09:32Yes, where your skin should have been
09:34In the first place
09:35Well, it's interesting enough
09:38Seeing it done
09:38I do find it strange
09:42When patients want to watch their procedures
09:43I've had some patients film their own procedures
09:46Which is always a bit odd
09:47That's a blanket stitch
09:49You're doing that
09:50If I ever had a procedure
09:52There is no way I would want to watch it
09:55Coming up
10:03You see that it's a cyst yet
10:06It's really stuck in there
10:08You need to have a lump with anything there
10:10You want to hold Angela's hands?
10:13There you go
10:13I have your elbows
10:15How's this feeling for you?
10:19It's OK
10:19The clinic is buzzing with patients
10:32Take care
10:34Thank you
10:35And next to arrive is 33-year-old Sam
10:39From Fife in Scotland
10:40I live with my fiancé and my three young daughters
10:44I have seven-year-old twin girls
10:46And an 18-month-old girl
10:49There's always a lot going on
10:51There's always lots of noise
10:52I'm forever picking hairs off everything
10:54But I wouldn't change it
10:56I love having old girls
10:57I've never known anything different
10:59OK, Sam
11:00The doctor's ready for you
11:01Down the hall
11:02On your right
11:03Thank you
11:04No problem
11:04Seeing Sam today
11:06Is Dr. Natalia Spearings
11:08Morning, Sam
11:10You'll come on
11:11Morning
11:11I'm Natalia
11:12Nice to meet you
11:13Nice to meet you
11:13I'm Sam
11:13Hi, this is Duda
11:15OK, so how can I help you today?
11:17So I'm here today
11:18Because I've got a lump
11:19That came up
11:20A few years
11:21Going in the back of my head
11:22OK
11:22And I'm done living with it
11:25Is it growing bigger or changing?
11:27It seemed pretty big instantly
11:29Oh, right
11:30I was actually recovering
11:30From something else at the time
11:31So it
11:32Mine starts going
11:34Of course
11:34All right, let me have a look at this lump
11:37So have you ever had anything like this removed before?
11:40No, nothing sort of skin related
11:42I've had only bone related
11:43Right
11:44OK
11:44Oh, yeah
11:45It's a squishy little guy
11:47Me and my fiancé
11:49I've been engaged for
11:50Coming up nine years now
11:51Things like weddings got put on hold
11:53Knowing that there's a lot of people behind you
11:55Having to worry about
11:56Them looking at the back of my head
11:58Rather than Shannon
11:58Who they should be looking at that day
12:00So this is probably a cyst
12:03It feels too mobile and fluid to be a lipoma
12:06You can get lipomas in the back of your head
12:08OK
12:08But this feels more like a little cystic thing
12:11All right, great news
12:13I can definitely remove this today
12:15Oh, that'd be brilliant
12:16When Dr. Natalia told me
12:18That she was able to remove the lump today
12:21I was just a great sense of relief
12:24And I was so glad that the lump was finally going to be gone
12:27All right
12:28Let's do some local anesthetic
12:30Now this is the bit you're not going to like
12:31You'll start stretching it sharp
12:33How are we doing?
12:36Yeah, it's fine
12:37The injection side of things for me
12:40I've kind of got used to it over the years now
12:42So everything's numb
12:45So you shouldn't feel anything
12:46You might feel some pressure
12:47No problem
12:48Sam, you mentioned you were recovering from something
13:00I had something called an atypical cartilaginous tumour
13:06Oh
13:07To the top of my left femur
13:09Turned out to be a bone tumour
13:13And it was within a two or three month period
13:18That I had to have major surgery
13:19And at the time the twins were only just turning four
13:23We went for a lot
13:25And the girls saw me in a place
13:27I probably wouldn't want them to see me
13:28You know, you feel vulnerable
13:29I actually delayed the surgery to after Christmas
13:32Just to have, you know, a normal Christmas with the kids
13:36Yeah
13:36Before going through that
13:38It was worrying
13:39My fiancée was great
13:41She managed to get me through it
13:42So I just really appreciate her for that
13:45Can you see that it's a cyst yet?
13:54I don't know
13:55Because it's not showing up as a cyst
13:57When I was cutting into Samuel's lesion on his scalp
14:01I was expecting to see kind of the shiny white surface of the cyst
14:05So I was going really slowly to make sure I didn't cut into it
14:08A cyst would have already appeared
14:12What I ended up cutting into was a ball of yellow tissue
14:17You had to have a lump without anything there
14:21It is a lipoma
14:22I was really surprised to see a lipoma under his scalp tissue when I was removing it
14:31I just didn't expect it to be there and it was really deep
14:34It's really stuck in there
14:36Rosers
14:37A little baby like a phone, is it?
14:40Yeah
14:40Wow
14:41Congratulations
14:42Not what I was expecting to hear today
14:44I was almost adamant from what I'd heard and what I'd felt
14:49That it was a cyst
14:50Wow
14:51Wow
14:52Got it
14:56Yeah
14:56But thank God he has lots of hair so he'll never see that scar
15:01What are we doing now?
15:06Stitching, sorry
15:07Oh, okay
15:07Stitching, stitching
15:09I felt slightly something different
15:11Oh, right
15:12Hard burn is done
15:14Everything's closed
15:15Next project
15:15Clean up Sam
15:16Just to know that once I'm healed up I'm just going to be able to feel the back of my head
15:23And not have to worry about feeling that people are looking at you
15:26And people do ask the questions so it would be nice not to have to answer it again
15:31I can feel the difference completely
15:32Good
15:33Oh, wow
15:35To see it gone just felt great
15:37Felt brilliant
15:38Well, it was lovely to meet you
15:41Thanks for coming in today
15:42Thank you so much
15:42No problem
15:43Enjoy your lump-free head
15:45Bye
15:45Thank you
15:46Take care
15:47All the best, take care
15:48See you guys later
15:49Bye bye
15:49Cheers
15:49Thank you
15:50I'm most excited to tell my fiancé
15:52So I'll be giving her a call as soon as I can to let her know it's gone
15:55We should have been married a very long time ago
15:58So it would be nice to maybe get the ball rolling on that now
16:01That was slightly more challenging than I expected
16:05Yeah
16:05Yeah, I need a protein shake
16:07Woo
16:07While Dr Natalia recharges the batteries
16:11Back in surgery room two
16:13Dr Adil is powering through seven of Louise's lipomas
16:18If I was going to rate Dr Adil's blanket stitching compared to Mike
16:23I would say he's almost on a par
16:25So what do you call it?
16:27It's called a running locked stitch
16:29His gapping was slightly uneven so he could practice getting them a bit more even
16:35But other than that I'd say out of ten I'll give him a nine
16:39Right now
16:41For the other side now
16:43Let's have a look
16:44I think I'll be addressing some
16:46Do you find it easier working from one side or the other?
16:49Um
16:50No
16:50No
16:51Just tell me if this feels sharp first
16:53Does that feel sharp?
16:55No, that's fine
16:55Sure
16:56Positive
16:56Are you right or left handed?
16:59Left
17:00Do you knock the arm quite a lot?
17:02I'm always bumping into things and we live in a small cottage
17:06It's a lovely little place in its own little bit of garden
17:11Do you like gardening?
17:13My husband does, yeah
17:15I do the tomatoes and the greenhouse things
17:18He does the main veg potatoes and leeks and carrots
17:23She was chatting to me and asking me about our lifestyle and everything
17:30And then I suddenly realised that she'd made me miss one of the procedures
17:34You've been chatting to me and I missed that one coming out
17:39I know
17:40But it's called a distracting technique
17:41Yes, that's not good enough, you know
17:44But I wasn't going to miss another one
17:46Feel sharp?
17:48No
17:49It's unpredictable how people can feel having surgery on themselves
17:54If they can faint and then there's the blood
17:58So distracting is the main thing that we have to do to take their minds off
18:05It just comes second nature to just talk to them, distract them
18:09You didn't make me miss that one
18:11You didn't let me
18:13Now the last one
18:14Yes
18:15Just tell me if that feels sharp
18:17No, that's fine
18:19Sure
18:19Positive
18:20So this one doesn't seem as formed
18:27Seems a bit more spread out
18:30Is that going to be a pain?
18:32No
18:32Just it means it won't come as one
18:35That big lipoma near my elbow was brilliant to see come out
18:41The doctor thought he'd got the majority of it out
18:44And then poking around the corner
18:47There were a couple of little pockets
18:48So I saw even more come out
18:50Which was brilliant
18:51I thought the more you can get out of that little so-and-so
18:55The better
18:55Good
18:59You definitely lost squeamish
19:01Yeah
19:02I was so pleased
19:06These lumps and bumps have sort of kept me a bit of a recluse indoors
19:11Because I haven't been comfortable going out
19:14You've done so well
19:16I've just had the best time
19:19And got through it with much more ease than I anticipated
19:24Is that me all done now?
19:26Yeah
19:26We're just going to lower the bed on that side
19:28Okay
19:32Lovely
19:32Thank you
19:33Getting a bit too comfy there
19:36Got to get up now
19:37Okay Louise
19:39How was that?
19:41Oh brilliant
19:42Absolutely
19:43Thank you
19:44Any pain?
19:45No
19:45None whatsoever
19:46Good
19:47So we've got rid of seven in total
19:49Yeah
19:49You want to have a look?
19:51Yes please
19:51Maybe even feel them
19:53Let's get a pair of gloves
19:54I don't need gloves do I?
19:56You don't have to
19:57But I'm
19:58Well you can feel better can't you without
20:00If you want to
20:01But each bit is quite firm isn't it?
20:07Yeah there's firm bits and then there's softer bits
20:09That's you
20:11That is me I know
20:12That's your DNA
20:13Yeah
20:13You need to feel with your bare hands
20:17If you're going to experience
20:18What exactly it was that was ailing you for so long
20:22And I was glad to see them go
20:24So I thought say goodbye properly
20:26Looks like you could fit a good few organs
20:29Oh gosh no
20:31We all
20:33The only organ we treat is the skin
20:35That's it
20:35I'd feel probably a few pounds lighter with all the bumps gone
20:40But generally happier myself
20:43You'll let me shake your hand now
20:45Yes I will
20:46Absolutely
20:46I'll be able to wear tops like this
20:50Which I don't usually
20:51And get a bit of sun on my skin
20:53Rather than not wanting to go out in the sun
20:55Because it's too hot
20:57With all the clothes I've got on
20:58Thank you
20:59Thank you very much
21:01Bye
21:01Bye
21:02Bye
21:02Bye
21:03If he was in a culinary place
21:05I'd say he was a five star doctor
21:07I feel a bit at ease
21:10Seeing her touching with her hands
21:12It is part of her body
21:13Yes I know
21:15But still
21:15Coming up
21:22I imagine I look like one of those flowers
21:24Yes
21:25We can draw a flower on your head if you like
21:28Can't wait to get stuck into this one
21:32A bit of birdsong out there
21:48Yeah
21:49Yeah
21:49Gone mad
21:50Good weather
21:51Good weather
21:51Hello
21:53Hello
21:54How can I help?
21:55I've got an appointment today
21:57My name's Abigail
21:57I live in Brighton
21:59And I'm 41
22:00I love travelling
22:02New York's my favourite place
22:03It's everything that you see in a movie
22:05The steaming drains
22:06The tall buildings
22:07The naked cowboy
22:09Okay Abigail
22:11The doctor will see you now
22:12Down the hall
22:13On your right
22:14Abigail's appointment
22:18Is with Dr. Magnus Lynch
22:20Come in
22:22Hello
22:24How are you?
22:25Hi there
22:25Hi there's Abigail
22:27Hi
22:27Come and have a seat
22:28I'm Dr. Magnus
22:29This is Angela
22:29Now tell us how we can help you today
22:32When I got pregnant with my daughter
22:34I got like these skin tags
22:36Some to my armpits
22:37Yeah
22:37And I've never been able to get rid of them
22:40Okay
22:40And it's just happened during the pregnancy
22:42Yeah
22:43And it's not been something that you're getting new ones coming up
22:46Yeah no
22:46It hasn't got better or worse
22:48Okay
22:48But obviously it's concerning you
22:50Yeah it's sore and
22:52Yeah
22:52It's not good for my confidence
22:53Of course
22:54Has it been stopping you from wearing certain clothes
22:56Yeah like I won't wear strappy summer tops or dresses
22:59Yeah
22:59And I won't go swimming or to the gym
23:01Okay
23:02So if it's okay we'd like to have a look at that
23:05I feel like my life has been on hold
23:08It gets me down
23:09It's hard to shave
23:10And you know it's always there
23:11I see it and it's not nice
23:13Maybe start on the right side
23:15I've got a number of skin tags there
23:17And they all look completely harmless
23:19I feel embarrassed and shy and insecure
23:22About anybody seeing them
23:24Like family members
23:25Especially little kids that point them out
23:28Do you want to take a seat for me?
23:30So it definitely is possible for me to remove some or all of those skin tags for you
23:38I would like them all to be gone so I can get my confidence back
23:42Yeah so we can certainly aim to do all of them for you
23:45Yeah
23:45Yeah
23:46We were planning our summer holiday
23:48It would be so amazing to just be free
23:51To you know lift my arms up and play with the kids
23:54And it would just be amazing
23:56So first of all a little bit of cleaning
23:59Okay so really cold
24:02There we go
24:03Easy
24:03There we go
24:06There we are
24:09You okay there?
24:12Feeling alright?
24:12Yeah I'm just really nervous
24:14Don't worry if you need a break at any time
24:15You just let me know okay
24:17Just clean the other side as well
24:19I felt a little bit anxious because I didn't know what to expect
24:23What I'll start to do if you're comfortable is I'll just start injecting a few of these
24:28And see how it feels for you
24:29Is that okay?
24:30You happy to continue?
24:31Mm-hmm
24:32Audrey?
24:33Do you want to hold Angela's hand?
24:35There you go
24:35Does that feel you?
24:36I'll have your elbows
24:37Yeah
24:38How's this feeling for you?
24:41Is it okay?
24:42Yes, okay
24:43Good
24:43So fortunately it's a very simple procedure
24:45The only bit is having so many injections
24:47And you've done really, really well
24:50Okay so that's one side done
24:55In terms of injections
24:56Dr. Magnus
25:00He's kind
25:01And I think that eases my anxiety
25:05So we'll just leave that for a minute
25:09So you've done the hard part
25:11You can relax
25:12Let us know if and when you're ready to continue
25:15I'm ready when you are
25:17Yeah
25:17Okay
25:20How's that feel?
25:25Is it okay?
25:25Yeah
25:25It'll be good to get rid of these, won't it?
25:30It won't
25:31It'll be brilliant
25:31What are you going to do when they're all gone then?
25:34What are you going to change?
25:35Are you going to get some new clothes?
25:37Yeah
25:37I'm going to buy some new t-shirt
25:39Like tops
25:40Yeah
25:40Vest tops
25:41Yeah
25:41Super duper
25:42That'll be good, won't it?
25:44And I have all new vest tops
25:45In all different colours
25:46It's very easy to remove skin tags
25:54So we just put a little bit of local anaesthetic at the base
25:56And then remove them flat with the skin surface
25:58And use the hyphricator to seal off any tiny blood vessels causing bleeding
26:03So very straightforward procedure
26:04Is that okay?
26:06Yeah
26:06Just finishing off this side now
26:10Okay, that's that side up
26:13Do you want a little bit of a break or are you okay?
26:16No, it's okay
26:17Just keep going, shall we?
26:18Mm-hmm
26:18Yeah
26:19Halfway do now
26:21All right then, so
26:23You all right?
26:27I can feel that one
26:28Can you?
26:29Let's just put some of the local anaesthetic into that one then
26:31A little injection coming
26:33There we go
26:35Be nice and numb now
26:37Okay now?
26:46Yeah
26:46Good
26:47So did you try any sort of home remedies, anything like that?
26:51I've tried all sorts of stuff
26:53Yeah, what have you tried?
26:54Tentafloss
26:55Yeah
26:56Nail varnish
26:57I wouldn't recommend this
26:59Just going to seal off the tiny blood vessels in those areas
27:01And then we're completely finished
27:02All right
27:02I wouldn't do DIY surgery at home
27:06I think it's not a clean environment
27:08There's risks of infection
27:10So it's always better to get it done in a clinic
27:12Okay, so that's all done
27:16Thank you
27:17Is there anything you're worried about now?
27:19Only about getting blood on my jumper on the way home
27:21Okay
27:22I'm really excited that now I can lift my arms up
27:26And not have to worry about anyone seeing anything under my arms
27:30Take a seat
27:31So do you want to see the ones that are removed?
27:34No, thank you
27:34Don't blame you, that's no problem at all
27:36All right then
27:37All right, thank you
27:37Lovely, well done
27:38I'm looking forward to swimming
27:39I'm looking forward to swimming
27:39It'd be so amazing to just be able to wear summer dresses and strappy tops and bikinis
27:45See you bye bye, look after yourself
27:48Thank you
27:48Make it easy
27:49Just having free armpits
27:51With the wind underneath them
27:55Abigail's looking forward to expanding her wardrobe
27:59But how stylish are the team when they're not in their scrubs?
28:05When it comes to fashion, I'm a bit of a sucker for shoes
28:09Shiny Italian leather in particular
28:12I'm absolutely obsessed with shopping
28:16I've got a real thing for trainers at the moment
28:19Delegate this answer to my wife
28:24She's told me that I am no fashionista
28:28No, I wear what's comfortable
28:31Yeah, I'm quite a handbag person
28:33So I do collect handbags
28:34I'm a bag lady
28:36I'm more so into expensive and nice smelling perfumes
28:41Arriving fashionably early is the next patient
28:51Hello
28:53Hello, my name's Anthony, I've got an appointment
28:55Wonderful, have a seat Anthony, I'll let you know in already
28:57Thank you
28:58My name's Anthony, I'm 60 years old
29:01I live on the south coast of England in a town called Eastbourne
29:04And I'm a photographer and filmmaker
29:07About two years ago, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma
29:12Which is the kind of cancer which got into my spine
29:15So I've lost four or five vertebrae
29:17After the recovery from the cancer
29:21I've decided I need to start enjoying life more
29:23And treating myself more
29:24Okay, Anthony, the doctor's ready for you
29:27Down the hall on your right
29:29Okay, thank you
29:30No problem
29:30Anthony's booked in with Dr. Dev Shah
29:34Hello
29:38Hi, come on in
29:40Hello
29:40How are you doing?
29:41Okay, thanks
29:42Anthony, nice to meet you
29:44Yeah, and you
29:44Everything okay?
29:46A little bit nervous
29:46But this has been growing and growing
29:49Over the past probably ten years
29:50Maybe more
29:51A treatment for cancer
29:52But that makes me very photosensitive
29:54Sometimes wear hats
29:55But obviously the hat
29:57Comes down to where that is
29:59So it's very uncomfortable
30:00When I go out sometimes
30:02People make sort of rude comments
30:03They say, oh, you've got a devil's horn
30:04It gets a bit tedious after a while
30:06What do you do as a job?
30:08Photographer and filmmaker
30:09Oh, lovely
30:10You mentioned you were nervous
30:12Tell me what's making you nervous
30:15I hate injections
30:16And sometimes they explode
30:18And because of its location
30:20I'm a bit worried it's going to go
30:21All over my face or something
30:22Okay, all right
30:23So I'm just going to have a feel
30:25I'll probably take a picture
30:26Yep
30:26And then I'll show you
30:27What we can do for you
30:28Yeah
30:29All right
30:29So it's pretty mobile
30:31Yeah
30:32Anthony's lump
30:33Felt a bit like a rubber ball
30:35Under the skin
30:36I felt that it was probably a cyst
30:38It wasn't hard enough to be bone
30:41And it wasn't soft enough to be the lipoma
30:43Just stay as you are
30:45So having had a look
30:47Good news is
30:48We can treat you today
30:49Okay, that's good
30:50Yep
30:50So if I come a bit closer to you
30:52My aim is not to burst it
30:55The main problem that happens here
30:57There are nerves that go from your eyebrow
30:59All the way up
31:00And supply sensation to your scalp
31:03Right
31:04When you have cysts in this area
31:06Sometimes they are below the muscle
31:08Of your forehead
31:09If they're below the muscle
31:11Then this nerve is likely to be cut
31:13Right
31:14Which means that you'll have a bit of numbness
31:16Literally as a band
31:18Yeah
31:18On your scalp
31:19And that could be permanent
31:20Okay
31:21If you cut one of those nerves
31:24It doesn't cause any problems with appearance
31:26But it can just be annoying
31:27When you're combing your hair
31:28That's the main problem in this area
31:31Raise your eyebrows
31:32Yeah
31:32And relax again
31:33Thank you
31:34So the reason I asked Anthony
31:37To raise his eyebrows
31:38Is to create creases on his forehead
31:40So that I know where to place the scar
31:43Which would make it hide
31:44In the normal folds of his forehead
31:46Drawn an eye on your head
31:48You look like a cyclops
31:50I have drawn an eye
31:51A sharp scratch coming up
31:54Okay
31:54Yeah
31:54And breathe
31:57How are we doing?
31:58How's that?
31:59Okay
31:59Coping?
32:00Yeah
32:00I was very nervous going in
32:02But I can hardly feel a thing
32:04It's a really easy process
32:06Deb's obviously a professional
32:07Well done
32:09Give you a little bit of a halo
32:11I imagine I look like one of those
32:13In school flowers
32:14We can draw a flower on your head
32:19If you like
32:19The petals
32:21I think Anthony was talking about
32:25Maybe the flower pot men
32:26From way, way back
32:28You had a little person
32:29With a flower around them
32:32Who was called weed
32:34Can I just scratch my eye?
32:38No
32:39Where do you want to scratch?
32:42Below my eye
32:43Near my nose
32:45This one?
32:45Yeah
32:46She got some tissue or something
32:47And wiped my nose for me
32:49That's it
32:51Thank you
32:52Yep
32:52Let us know if we cause any pain
32:55At any point
32:56Alright
32:56How are you doing under there my love?
33:12Yeah
33:13Yeah
33:13Okay
33:13Thank you
33:13Good
33:14Well done
33:15As a cyst grows
33:20And overlying skin
33:22The skin becomes much thinner
33:24And it was very obvious
33:25How I had to take
33:27A much wider margin
33:29Of Anthony's cyst
33:30To ensure that we don't cut
33:32The cyst wall
33:33And cause a big
33:35Sort of eruption
33:36Sounds like a sniffing
33:39It is
33:40It is
33:40We are
33:41He's literally using some scissors
33:43Just to free up this cyst
33:45Ah
33:46You okay under there?
33:48Yeah
33:48You're fine?
33:49Yeah
33:49Good
33:49The cyst forms from the upper layers
33:53Of the skin
33:54And grows down
33:55So I need to make sure
33:57That we can peel it off
33:59The nerves
34:00At the base
34:01To avoid any nerve damage
34:03Wonderful
34:16You're going to hear
34:21A little bit of buzzing
34:22And that's just us
34:23Stopping a tiddly bit of bleeding
34:25Can I just have a look
34:26Oh yeah
34:27Perfect
34:27Any pain eh?
34:30No
34:31I'll let you know if there is
34:36Okay good
34:38Okay
34:40So we're putting some stitches in now
34:46Okay
34:46It didn't burst
34:47That's good
34:48Okay
34:48Yep
34:49Beforehand I was a bit concerned
34:52That it might burst
34:53And I'll be covered in
34:55In the contents of it
34:56That was nice to avoid that
34:58You haven't got a lump
35:00On your head now
35:01That's good
35:01Looking forward to
35:03Showing my wife
35:03And see what she thinks of it
35:04Swing yourself this way
35:06She's a nurse herself
35:08So she might even try
35:09And take the stitches out herself
35:10How are you feeling?
35:12Yeah good thank you
35:13It was a lot easier
35:14Than I thought it was going to be
35:15Same with us
35:15Came out beautifully
35:16Shelled out
35:18I'll let you have a look at it
35:19This is the
35:23Bit of skin
35:24That we've removed
35:25That was front
35:25Yeah
35:26Can you see that?
35:26That's the top
35:27It's quite bizarre
35:29Seeing the little fold of skin
35:31Still attached to it
35:32Do you want to see
35:33What would have happened
35:34Had you squeezed it?
35:36Yeah
35:36Okay
35:36Yeah
35:36And now if you give it
35:39A little light squeeze
35:40Give it a squeeze
35:41Oh
35:41There we go
35:42Nice
35:43Yeah
35:43Do you like that?
35:44Yeah
35:45It's pretty disgusting
35:46Okay
35:48Thank you
35:48I'll take your glove
35:49I'm feeling pretty good right now
35:51I'll be able to go
35:52Without worrying about
35:53People making sarcastic comments
35:55Be able to wear my hats
35:56Now in the summer
35:57Look after yourself
35:58Yeah
35:58Nice to see you
35:59I was quite nervous
36:00Going in about
36:01What could possibly happen
36:02But they were very calming
36:03And very reassuring throughout
36:05Thank you
36:06All right
36:07Take care
36:07Bye
36:07Bye
36:08Bye
36:08Bye
36:08Bye
36:08That was satisfactory
36:11That was good
36:12Coming up
36:17Did it have a name?
36:18No
36:18We weren't on first name tour
36:20My name is Philip
36:36I'm 63 years old
36:38I'm from Salford
36:39I work with musicians
36:41My father Harvey
36:43Discovered Herman's Hermits
36:45Back in 1963
36:47Have a seat
36:48I'll let you know
36:49And we're ready for you
36:49Thank you
36:50I was inspired to work
36:51With musicians
36:52To try and get their
36:54Creative talents
36:56Seen by the rest of the world
36:57Okay Philip
36:58The doctor's ready for you
36:59Thank you
37:00Always in tune with her patients
37:03Is Dr Emma McMullen
37:05Come in
37:09Hi
37:10Is it Philip?
37:11It is
37:11Hi
37:11How are you doing?
37:12Hi
37:12Hello
37:12Hi
37:13I'm Dr Emma
37:14Hello Dr Emma
37:15Come on in
37:16Have a seat
37:16So Philip
37:17What can we do for you?
37:18Well
37:19I've got a lump
37:20On my shoulder
37:21A chip on my shoulder
37:22I call it
37:23I've had it 25 years
37:25The doctor first
37:26Exercised it
37:28Incised it
37:29I'm not quite sure
37:29What the wording was
37:30Yeah
37:31But it grew back
37:33So they probably
37:34Just popped it
37:34I think they popped it
37:35Okay
37:36So it sounds like a cyst
37:37Then
37:37Yeah
37:37And then over the years
37:39I did the same thing
37:41Oh you popped it as well?
37:42I have tried
37:42What came out?
37:44Gunge
37:45Cheesy gunge
37:46Cheesy gunge
37:46Okay
37:47But then it grew back again
37:49Alright then
37:49Do you mind if we have
37:50A little look at it?
37:51With pleasure
37:52Alright I'll just
37:53Get some gloves
37:53I'm very conscious of it
37:57If someone puts their arm
37:58Around me for instance
37:59As a gesture of friendship
38:01It's not comfortable
38:02So this time
38:03I want to get rid of it
38:04Once and for all
38:05Let's have a wee look
38:06Yeah
38:07Oh it's very mobile
38:09Yeah
38:10It's got like a head
38:11To it here
38:11Yeah
38:12It's kind of a weird head
38:14It's trying to escape
38:14This little bit here
38:16Isn't it?
38:16Yeah
38:16Okay
38:18Fine
38:19Lovely
38:20Yeah
38:20Put yourself back down
38:21Right
38:24Philip
38:24So I do think
38:26We'll be able to
38:26Remove this today
38:27Wonderful
38:28Okay
38:29So we'll try
38:30And get it out
38:31In one piece
38:31Great
38:32Right
38:33We'll pop a gown
38:34On you
38:34Okay
38:35Greek style
38:37With one shoulder out
38:38It does have an impact
38:41You know
38:42If you're sunbathing
38:43You're very conscious of it
38:44It does inhibit me
38:46Wanting to go out
38:47And go for a swim
38:48It's quite big isn't it
38:50Wow
38:50It's very prominent
38:51It's poker knife
38:52Yeah isn't it
38:53Does it affect your clothing
38:55Oh yeah
38:55You can see that
38:56If you wear like a thin shirt
38:57If I wear a t-shirt
38:58It does stick out
38:59You can see that
39:00Can't you
39:00Yeah
39:00Yeah
39:01Right
39:07I'm going to do
39:08Your
39:08Low cold now
39:10The anaesthetic
39:15Was very cool
39:16Going in
39:17It felt a bit cold
39:18Quite prickly
39:20Oh
39:21Sorry
39:22Did you feel that one
39:23Yeah I really did
39:23It is very stingy
39:25There's the punctum
39:27Look
39:28There
39:29It's actually over here
39:30Oh yeah
39:31Philippe's cyst
39:33Had a head on it
39:34And I was like
39:35Can't wait to get
39:36Stuck into this one
39:38Can you feel anything sharp
39:40No
39:41No
39:42Okay
39:43I think we're good to go
39:44Yeah
39:47Oh the skin's really thin
39:55Over it
39:56So when this skin
39:58Is really thin
39:59Over the top of the cyst
40:00Obviously
40:01There's not much
40:02Space between that
40:03And the cyst wall
40:05Underneath
40:05So it's really easy
40:06When you make that
40:07First incision
40:08To go through the cyst
40:09As well
40:09You okay there
40:11I'm okay
40:12Not feeling any of that
40:13No I'm okay
40:13Thank you
40:17Whoops
40:19There we go
40:20Oh
40:20Chee
40:22Oh
40:22Wow
40:24Oh gosh
40:25Oh
40:25I just love it
40:30When a cyst bursts
40:31And I get to give it
40:33A squeeze
40:34I don't squeeze it anymore
40:38So
40:46It did pop
40:48A bit of the insides
40:50Of it have come out
40:51But we're just getting
40:51All of the capsule
40:52Out now
40:53And
40:53Hopefully this won't
40:56Come back
40:57Is it quite deep?
40:59No
41:00It's not too bad actually
41:01I think most of it
41:02Was sitting proud
41:02Stretching your skin up
41:04Making it look
41:05Very prominent
41:06But
41:06It's actually very
41:07It's actually quite
41:08Superficial
41:10Very good
41:11So that's good
41:12Yeah you won't have
41:13Like a big divot
41:13Underneath it
41:14That's great
41:15Removed it
41:17Alright
41:17It's all gone
41:18So we're just putting
41:21Some stitches
41:22Underneath the skin
41:23Okay
41:24That will give it
41:24Some strength
41:26Whilst it heals
41:27Over the next few months
41:29With this being
41:31On your shoulder
41:32You'll have to
41:33Really watch your
41:34Activity for the next
41:35Four to six weeks
41:36Yes
41:37Do you think you got
41:38The whole thing out
41:39Of the sack as well
41:40Yeah
41:40Oh brilliant
41:40Did it have a name?
41:42No
41:43We weren't on
41:44First name
41:45Right it's covered now
41:51So if you just want
41:52To feel how flat it is
41:53Before we put this
41:54Little pressure thing on
41:55You can just
41:56Feel it with your hands
41:56Because it's covered now
41:57Oh yeah
41:58Yeah
41:58Yeah it's a lot better
42:00Isn't it
42:00Yeah
42:00I went into the clinic
42:03Not knowing
42:04If I was going to get it done
42:06And it's gone
42:08There was no pain
42:09It was in
42:11Out
42:11And it was done
42:12So you can look at your shoulder
42:14In the mirror
42:15Oh yeah
42:15So that's just the dressing
42:17Yeah
42:18But there's no
42:19Big lump
42:20Yeah
42:20Fantastic
42:21That's a bit of improvement
42:22Isn't it?
42:23Yeah
42:23Getting rid of my cyst
42:25Will make a change
42:27I won't be
42:28Conscious of it
42:29It'll just be
42:30It won't be in the way
42:32Right
42:33You ready to wave goodbye?
42:37Whoa
42:37Look at that
42:39That's so much gunk
42:42Do you mind if I
42:43Can I touch
42:44Do you want some gloves?
42:46I don't need gloves
42:47No you do
42:48I've got to eat my lunch after
42:51There you go
42:53Pop them on
42:54And then
42:54Okay
42:54I only need one
42:56Oh you need one
42:56So it's kind of mushy
42:58It felt very mushy
43:00More like mushy peas
43:02Without the colour
43:03Alright
43:07Wonderful
43:07Well thank you
43:08It's been a pleasure
43:09Very very much
43:09Really lovely to be able to help you
43:11Thank you
43:12I feel great
43:14You know
43:14I feel like
43:16I've got a chip off my shoulder
43:18Thank you
43:20Take care
43:20Bye bye
43:21Bye bye
43:21It's just wonderful
43:23To get rid of it
43:23I couldn't get you
43:28Stop squeezing it
43:29I think you're going to lose a finger
43:30Because I need to get the rest of it out
43:32But I'm having a good time
43:34I feel much more confident in myself
43:46And I'm now able
43:47To wear my favourite watch again
43:49Just like I said
43:56A big thank you
43:57To Dr Shah
43:58And Skin A&E
43:59Thank you very much
44:00Since having my lump removed
44:07Everything's just been great
44:10I guess it's time to now
44:11Start planning the wedding
44:12I would recommend it to anybody
44:25If you've got a skin problem like I had
44:28Get it done
44:29беспfaith
44:37giranto
44:38I get it done
44:40At the end of the house
44:41And so
44:42in the end of the house

44:43I'm not going to say
