Pokémon are marvelous creatures that come in a variety of types and sizes, with abilities, powers, and personalities as diverse as they are numerous. Doctor Yukinari Ookido has dedicated his life to studying these fascinating beings, that can be caught, trained, traded, and battled against each other. There's only so much he can do from his lab though. With this in mind, Ookido entrusts two young boys with a Pokémon of their own and a computerized encyclopedia to catalog them. One of them, Green, is brash, passionate, slightly arrogant, and Doctor Ookido's own nephew. The other boy, Red, is equally passionate, and filled with a wide-eyed, mildly naive sense of wonder. Pokémon: The Origin follows Red in his journey through the region of Kanto in his attempt to complete his "Pokédex" by capturing and cataloging all the Pokémon that exist. Along the way he'll discover there's more to himself and his goals than he originally thought. Red will have to put both himself and his Pokémon to the test in special Gyms whose leaders are steps along the way to the Pokémon League, in order to challenge the Elite Four and become a Pokémon League Champion. Aside from his goals to become a Champion, Red has other problems brewing. There are others who capture and train Pokémon for more sinister reasons, with the infamous criminal organization Team Rocket being one of them. If Red can defeat them, fellow trainers, his rival Green, and wild Pokémon all through Kanto, he just may fulfill his own dream, and Doctor Ookido's as well.

00:30Hello there, and welcome to the world of Pokémon.
00:43My name is Professor Oak.
00:46I'm often referred to as the Professor of Pokémon.
00:49There are some very interesting creatures that inhabit this world.
00:54And as you may be aware, they are known the world over quite simply as Pokémon.
01:00For some people, Pokémon are pets, while other people enjoy using them for battle.
01:06We find ourselves coexisting in various styles.
01:14Are you interested in learning about this Pokémon world?
01:18I'll be your guide for a story of dreams and adventures.
01:22Now, the world of Pokémon awaits.
01:26Let's get started.
01:31Gengar used Double Egg.
01:34Oh, that was a poison sting from Nidorino.
01:38Gengar immediately hopped back out of the way.
01:40It's still standing.
01:41Red, are you there?
01:43Red?
01:44Huh?
01:45Yeah?
01:46I ran into Professor Oak, and he gave me a message for you.
01:49He wants you to go to his lab as soon as possible.
01:52Professor Oak?
01:53He said he finally finished that thing he was telling you about, so...
01:56Huh?
01:58All right!
02:03Are you all right?
02:07Yeah, I'm okay.
02:12You should really be more careful.
02:16All right.
02:17I'll see you later!
02:17I'll see you later!
02:26Finally!
02:27Finally, it's done!
02:29Oh, hey there, Red.
02:42Wait a second, let me guess.
02:43Did Gramps call you, too?
02:45Yeah!
02:46I heard it's done!
02:47Sorry, but, uh...
02:48I'm gonna go in first!
02:49Wait!
02:50I won't let you!
02:56Get off of me, would you?
02:57But you're the one who pushed me!
03:00What's all the ruckus about?
03:02Huh?
03:02Professor!
03:03Is it done?
03:06Mm-hmm.
03:07This is the Pokedex.
03:09The Pokedex?
03:11Yes.
03:11It automatically records all the data on Pokemon you've caught.
03:16It's a high-tech encyclopedia.
03:18Science is so amazing!
03:20Red, blue, listen.
03:22You'll each receive one Pokedex.
03:23I want you to do something very important
03:26to make a complete guide to all the Pokemon in the world.
03:29That has always been my dream.
03:32It's been your dream?
03:34You see, the thing is, I'm too old to do it.
03:36It's quite difficult to travel around seeking all kinds of Pokemon.
03:40So now I want the two of you to help fulfill my dream.
03:44Can I count on you?
03:45Yeah!
03:46Now, Gramps, you haven't forgotten your promise, right?
03:49In exchange for us helping you out with this?
03:51I haven't forgotten it.
03:57As you can see, there are three Pokemon here.
04:02I'll give each of you the opportunity to choose one.
04:06The Fire Pokemon, Charmander.
04:10The Water Pokemon, Squirtle.
04:13The Plant Pokemon, Bulbasaur.
04:17Now then, you may choose the one that you like.
04:19Well, I don't need to be greedy like you are.
04:23K-Red, you can go ahead and choose first.
04:26Now think carefully before you choose.
04:29No need.
04:29I've already decided.
04:31Oh, Charmander.
04:33That's right.
04:34It wasn't really a tough decision.
04:35The thing is, my dad gave me the name Red,
04:37hoping that when I grew up,
04:39it would help me have the passion and energy of a red-hot fire.
04:42So now I've decided that my first Pokemon
04:44should be a fire Pokemon
04:46that will help me live up to the name my father gave me.
04:53It's my Pokemon!
04:55I see.
04:56Well, then Blue,
04:58are you going to choose Squirtle
04:59because its blue color is perfect for someone with your name?
05:03I would never choose my Pokemon for such a ridiculous reason.
05:06But since Red chose fire,
05:09I will choose water!
05:13By the way,
05:15you realize you can give your Pokemon its own nickname if you so choose.
05:19A nickname?
05:22Okay, then.
05:23Let's see.
05:24No, I think I'll keep the name Charmander.
05:27Red,
05:28what do you say?
05:29Shall we test them out?
05:30Eh, never mind.
05:32I wouldn't want the memory of my first battle
05:34to be against a measly beginner like you.
05:36You're a beginner too, you know.
05:38Maybe, but
05:39my ambitions are far greater than yours.
05:42Now that I have this Squirtle,
05:44you'll see.
05:45I'll become the best Pokemon trainer in the whole world.
05:48Well, Gramps,
05:49I gotta go.
05:51All right.
05:52It's okay to aim high,
05:53but don't forget my request.
05:55Leave it all to me.
05:56I got it covered.
05:57Oh, my.
06:02He's your grandson after all, Professor.
06:04Yes, well, the truth is,
06:06when I was young,
06:07I was a serious Pokemon trainer as well.
06:10Pokemon...
06:11trainer?
06:13Meow!
06:14Well, Red,
06:16I'm counting on you.
06:17Right!
06:18A Pidgey!
06:32Charmander!
06:32Go for it!
06:38Ember!
06:40Wait!
06:41Hold on!
06:48Huh?
06:51Oh, great.
06:52The data's not recorded unless I catch it.
06:57I got this one, Charmander!
06:59Rout!
06:59AHHHHH!
07:03Scratch!
07:13That's so cool!
07:15You're mine this time!
07:18RAAAGH!
07:19RAAAGH!
07:21You too!
07:22Chee-choo!
07:23Chee-choo!
07:25RAAAGH!
07:26You wanna try and battle against my Pokemon?
07:32I've never seen that Pokemon before.
07:34Fine!
07:36RAAAGH!
07:39Now!
07:42What?
07:43Come back, Sneet-O-Rand!
07:44What's with you?
07:47Trying to catch someone else's Pokemon!
07:49You're a thief!
07:50What?
07:51Thief?
07:52No, uh...
07:53Look, where can I catch a Nidoran, then?
07:56Ah...
07:57Well, alright, since you won.
07:59I'll tell ya.
08:09Welcome to Viridian City.
08:12You made it here quicker than I thought you would.
08:14I mean, you're pretty slow, so...
08:16I thought it would take a lot more time for you to figure out how to get here.
08:19Blue...
08:20What do you say?
08:21Has your Pokemon gotten any stronger yet?
08:24Look, Blue.
08:25My goal in this is not to try to make my Pokemon stronger.
08:29All I really wanna do is complete the Pokedex.
08:31Heh.
08:33Yeah, okay, I get it.
08:34But to complete the Pokedex, you sometimes have to battle against strong Pokemon, right?
08:39Well, at least you have a good excuse to escape from battle if you wimp out.
08:43What did you say?
08:44Oh, come on.
08:45We both know it, Red.
08:46The truth is, you're not confident you can beat me.
08:49And in case you're wondering, I won't lose to you.
08:52No way, no how.
08:53All right, I'll accept your challenge.
08:58Squirtle!
08:58Go!
08:59Charmander!
09:03Charmander, use Growl!
09:06What a wimpy voice.
09:08Use Tackle!
09:10Ember!
09:13You missed it.
09:15Calm down, take your time!
09:20Use Scratch!
09:22One more time!
09:26Use Scratch!
09:27Tackle!
09:30What's the matter?
09:31Use Ember!
09:32Get up!
09:33Hurry!
09:34Bubble!
09:41I don't get it.
09:42Why are you so slow?
09:43Is that all you got?
09:44Bubble!
09:47Don't just run away!
09:49Come on, use Ember!
09:52Go!
09:52Let's go!
09:53Come on!
09:53Come on!
09:54Come on!
09:54No!
09:55Come on!
09:56Come on!
09:56Come on!
09:57I got you!
09:58Fight!
10:07No!
10:08Sherman!
10:09No!
10:09Come on!
10:10Come on!
10:10Come on!
10:10How weak!
10:17I've never seen such a weak trainer before.
10:19Though, I'm way too strong.
10:21And awesome, too.
10:25You just attack and attack.
10:28So predictable.
10:30I just...
10:32Look, Red, you should just head back to Palat Town already.
10:36You end up getting hurt out here.
10:37And there's no way you'll be able to complete the Pokédex.
10:41It's a waste of time.
10:53Why?
10:55Blue and I, we both should be at the same level.
11:02No.
11:04Clearly the guy who used Squirtle is more experienced.
11:08Uh, who are you?
11:10Tell me something.
11:11Do you understand the type and characteristics of your Pokémon?
11:15What?
11:16Well, to begin with, it's so obvious that you and your Pokémon are not in sync.
11:21Not in sync?
11:23That's a lie!
11:24His Squirtle responded quickly to its trainer's instructions and was able to dodge attacks by using its own judgment.
11:32Because the Pokémon and its trainer are connected.
11:35That Squirtle battles clearly recognizing and trusting its trainer's power.
11:40Its trainer's power?
11:43Pokémon won't connect with trainers who have none.
11:45The strength of a Pokémon is proportional to its trainer's power.
11:50I see.
11:53Got it!
11:55Hold on.
11:56Where are you going?
11:57Isn't it clear?
11:58I'm going to find everyone with Pokémon and challenge them to battle!
12:02Are you saying you're going to make that weak and hurt Charmander battle even more?
12:08You should take it to the Pokémon Center first, right?
12:11Of course.
12:14I was just...
12:15The Pokémon Center in Viridian City is the building with the red roof.
12:20Uh, well, thank you.
12:22If you really want to learn the basics of battle, you're going to want to visit the gym leaders.
12:27Gym leaders?
12:28Gym leaders are very experienced in Pokémon battles.
12:31You could learn quite a lot from them, though...
12:34Though what?
12:35Gym leaders are only willing to battle with people who really want to learn.
12:39If you want to visit the gyms, then first think about this.
12:44What battling Pokémon is really all about?
12:50What battling is really all about?
12:57Hmm.
12:58You seem to be doing fine.
13:00Once you have more than six Pokémon,
13:02other Pokémon you catch will be automatically sent to the PC.
13:06I understand.
13:07What's wrong?
13:08You look a little down.
13:10No, I'm just fine.
13:12Okay, if you say so.
13:13But the journey is long.
13:14Don't push yourself too hard.
13:16Right.
13:17Red!
13:18I want to thank you for waiting.
13:20You'll be glad to know that your Pokémon are completely fighting fit.
13:24We hope to see you again.
13:26Kay, thanks a lot.
13:31Pewter City, huh?
13:32Did you hear about the gym leader, Brock?
13:36He quickly demolished a Pokémon trainer who was trying to defeat all the gyms.
13:40Gym?
13:41Wow.
13:42I heard that new challengers come to Brock's gym almost every single day.
13:46That's because the Pewter City gym leader, Brock, is super famous.
13:51Gym.
13:52The gym leader.
13:53What?
13:56Against Brock?
13:57You want to battle against Brock now?
13:59You're a million light years away from being ready for that.
14:02I was told to learn the basics of battle from gym leaders.
14:06Listen, how long have you been with your Pokémon?
14:09Five days.
14:11Uh...
14:11Seriously?
14:12And you want to battle Brock now?
14:14That's very funny.
14:15You make me laugh.
14:16He's my guest.
14:17I invited this kid.
14:19What?
14:20Seriously, Brock?
14:22Uh...
14:23What?
14:24You mean you're Brock?
14:26Don't talk like that to a gym leader!
14:28That's right.
14:29I'm the Pewter City gym leader.
14:31Brock.
14:32And what's your name?
14:33It's Red.
14:34Well, have you got an answer for the question I asked you earlier?
14:37To be honest, no, I don't.
14:41But...
14:41It's because I don't have one that I've come here.
14:46All right, then.
14:47Have you got any badges?
14:52Badges?
14:53No, I don't have any.
14:55I see.
14:56Well, then...
14:57I'll battle you with these two Pokémon.
15:01With two?
15:02My specialty is battling with Rock-type Pokémon.
15:07Okay, I'm counting on you!
15:13Ember!
15:16Red!
15:16When I fought Blue, we were counter-attacked at this point.
15:23Should I wait and see what he's gonna do?
15:26What's wrong?
15:27Charmander looks kind of worried there.
15:30If you aren't gonna act...
15:32Tackle!
15:32You let your Pokémon take that!
15:37Use Scratch!
15:40It's not very effective.
15:42Again!
15:42Scratch!
15:44You don't seem to have learned anything.
15:47What?
15:47I'm pretty sure I asked you if you understood Pokémon types and characteristics.
15:52Pokémon types all match up in different ways.
15:56Match up?
15:56Fire-type Pokémon are weak against Rock-type Pokémon.
16:00You do understand that, right?
16:03I don't get it.
16:04What are you trying to say?
16:05Well, you do have other Pokémon available, don't you?
16:08Huh?
16:09If you try to battle only with Charmander, it's too difficult to defeat Rock-type Pokémon.
16:15I see.
16:17Battling while switching Pokémon.
16:19It's a legitimate battling style.
16:22Charmander, come back!
16:24Don't need a land!
16:26Double kick!
16:29It's super effective!
16:31Yeah!
16:31We beat a Rock-type Pokémon!
16:33Come back, Geodune!
16:36On it!
16:40Another Rock-type?
16:41I told you, my specialty is Rock-type.
16:44Double kick!
16:45Bide!
16:46While using Bide, Onyx can't attack until after it's been attacked two times.
16:52What?
16:53Even though it may be defeated after two attacks?
16:56Onyx be defeated?
16:58It won't.
16:59I believe in Onyx.
17:01Believing?
17:03Double kick!
17:09Hold on.
17:10Well done, Onyx!
17:12Double the damage!
17:14Come back, Nidoran!
17:19By using the move Bide, a Pokémon can return twice the amount of damage that it has received.
17:25Here's the next one!
17:26Zero!
17:31Zero!
17:31Come back!
17:32Rattata!
17:33That Pokémon is too fast!
17:46Metaplon!
17:46String Shot!
17:50We've got Onyx all tied up!
17:52It won't work!
17:57Wow, check out Brock!
17:59Yeah, he's getting really worked up!
18:01String Shot!
18:02Tackle!
18:05Metaplon!
18:06Come back!
18:06I've only got one Pokémon left!
18:19Now then, starting to get what battling Pokémon is all about?
18:23I'm getting exhausted, and I have no idea why.
18:29Not only that, I feel as if I'm also taking damage.
18:33That's it!
18:35I get it!
18:37I get it!
18:38Pokémon are not tools for battle!
18:40They're our partners!
18:41My Pokémon and I are battling together!
18:44I can't believe I didn't even notice such a simple thing as that!
18:48Hmph!
18:49They're both almost out of HP.
18:51It seems the next attack will decide this battle.
18:54The first to land an attack will win.
18:58Ah!
18:59Here we go!
19:01Scratch!
19:03Tackle!
19:07Their speed is identical!
19:09Will they tie?
19:10Will they tie?
19:23No way!
19:24Why?
19:28Metapod String...
19:29But it...
19:31I thought Onyx tore off all the strings, but there was one string left.
19:35And that string is what made Onyx a split second too late.
19:38Excellent job!
19:42You mean that...
19:43I won?
19:45I've never seen Brock get this serious before.
19:47And to top it off, the kid actually won!
19:50Not bad!
19:52This is for you.
19:56That badge is proof that you beat me.
19:58The Boulder badge.
20:00Brock, I uh...
20:01Thank you!
20:02Thanks a lot, really!
20:03You realize that you've just started walking the path of a Pokémon trainer.
20:07It's not an easy path to be sure.
20:09Hm.
20:10I'll give you this too.
20:12It's TM-34.
20:15A TM?
20:16That's right.
20:17It's a technical machine containing Byde, the move I showed you earlier.
20:20Take it with you so that you can teach some of your own Pokémon to use the move Byde as well.
20:25This is great!
20:26Thank you!
20:27We'll meet again.
20:29Yeah!
20:34Brock, I have a question.
20:36Why did you accept his challenge so soon?
20:39Because I found him quite intriguing.
20:41When I asked him that question, he said he was still looking for an answer.
20:46Professor, may I ask what the reason was that you chose Red for this task?
20:53Although he's clumsy, ever since he was a young boy, he's hated to lose.
20:58But he is honest, and he will learn from those around him and grow stronger.
21:03I believe he will make a good Pokémon trainer.
21:05I only hope that Blue will grow along with Red.
21:11Unlike Red, he's too good, which makes him a little arrogant.
21:18I will get stronger!
21:20Much stronger!
21:21And I'll make Professor Oak's dream finally come true!
21:25I will complete the Pokédex!
21:35I will complete the Pokédex in the实age of the arena.
21:36I will complete the Pokédex.
21:37I will complete the Pokédex in theairs.
21:38I will complete the Pokédex in the Auge and the T-B!
21:39Please do, I will complete the Falcons.
21:41I will complete the Pokédex in the Sunset.
21:42What could I do?
21:43Okay, let me get the Pokédex in the lucky way.
