00:00About 2am on Monday the 6th of October 2025, emergency services were called to East Street
00:06Bega following reports of a physical altercation between two groups.
00:11Officers attached to the South Coast Police District attended and on arrival found the
00:16body of a 43 year old man in the park suffering from stab wounds.
00:22Unfortunately he later died from those injuries.
00:25A second man aged 45 suffered stab wounds during the same incident and he was taken to Southeast
00:31Regional Hospital in a stable condition.
00:34He has since been released.
00:39Police established a crime scene and Strike Force Nackstone was formed to investigate.
00:45That strike force has been assisted by police from the State Crime Command Homicide Squad
00:51and the Southern Region Office.
00:52About 6.30pm on Thursday the 30th of October 2025, officers attached to the South Coast Police
00:58District executed a search warrant at a residential premise in Bega in relation to our ongoing
01:05homicide investigation.
01:06A knife and electronic devices were seized during those searches.
01:12Nobody was home at the time.
01:15On Wednesday the 12th of November 2025, just this last Wednesday, officers attached to the
01:19South Coast Police District, assisted by officers from the State Emergency Services Organisation,
01:27conducted a search in and around the Glebe Wetlands on East Street Bega.
01:33And the surrounding area to locate a knife, we believe may have been discarded shortly after
01:39the homicide.
01:40The weapon we are looking for is believed to be a small, double-edged dagger.
01:50We urge anybody with information to come forward.

02:00Can I just reassure the community that at this stage there's no information to suggest that
02:07the wider community is at risk in relation to this.
02:11It's true there has been a house fire in the vicinity of where the homicide occurred.
02:16We certainly haven't ruled that out as being related, but at this stage there's nothing
02:20to suggest that the wider or broader community is at any risk.
