00:00And why do you think they haven't named one?
00:01So it's funny because it's not, on the one hand,
00:04it's not like the biggest deal in the world.
00:06However, hockey makes it a big deal.
00:08Hockey promotes the captain thing more than any other sport.
00:11Nobody knows who the captains are in basketball,
00:13if teams even have captains.
00:15Teams in baseball really don't.
00:16The only time we talked about it was like Jeter and Veritech.
00:19After that, it's like there's leaders and there's not.
00:22It's not really a thing in baseball.
00:24Football, they do wear the patches and they name them,
00:27but it's usually the quarterback and then a bunch of other guys
00:29where...
00:30And there's also so many.
00:31There's like seven of them.
00:32I mean, some teams more than that.
00:34And so there's not just a captain.
00:36But hockey makes a big thing.
00:38It's a huge tradition in hockey.
00:40And you see it on the jersey as well as the alternate captains, right?
00:44So you see all that on game day all the time.
00:47And for years around here, it was like, all right, Chara.
00:49It was synonymous with it.
00:50Chara has the captain.
00:51Then it was Patrice Bergeron.
00:53Then it was Brad Marchand, which we were told you cannot trade captains.
00:56Well, and this to me makes your point about
00:59the captaincy.
01:00It's like, well, you don't trade your captain.
01:02That's too sacred of a position.
01:04So it's like, all right, is the captain sacred or not?
01:06Because apparently you couldn't trade one, even though they did.
01:08Well, Greg had a theory this morning.
01:10And now they won't name one.
01:11Well, maybe they were thinking about,
01:12depending on how the season goes,
01:14do they end up trading Posterknock or McAvoy?
01:17That was his theory.
01:18That's a good theory, by the way.
01:19And so you don't want to trade back-to-back captains
01:20because that looks bad.
01:21You don't want to name a captain to turn around
01:23and then trade them, bracing for an awful year.
01:26That's a good theory by Greg.
01:27So there are 32 NHL teams.
01:30How many don't have a captain?
01:34I'll answer it for you.
01:36Two.
01:36Two.
01:37Two.
01:37The Bruins, an original six team,
01:40and the San Jose Sharks,
01:42one of the more recent six teams probably,
01:44maybe the last six in, the San Jose Sharks.
01:46And I didn't do a deep dive into the San Jose Sharks,
01:49but Logan Couture was their captain for a long time.
01:52And then he, a couple years ago,
01:54played in a handful of games.
01:55I don't know if he was trying to come back or whatever,
01:57but I feel like there's sort of an explanation with like,
02:00hey, we're not going to replace you
02:01with this potential comeback or whatever.
02:03They were keeping the seat warm in case he came back.
02:04He was in the organization, and he was the captain.
02:07And then, Nick, didn't he just say he literally just retired?
02:09He retired in April.
02:10Yeah.
02:11So he had the offseason to give to somebody.
02:12So they could have.
02:13Yeah, 100% they could have.
02:15But they didn't.
02:15And they were sort of waiting and seeing, I guess.
02:18But that's also the Sharks.
