00:00Welcome to Real Talk, where it gets hot, spicy, and to the drama.
00:18So you guys are vertical legends and have been in so many of these shows,
00:25so we all want to know how these shows have changed your lives as people.
00:29Well, it was weird, because when we did Faded to My Forbidden Alpha,
00:32it was at a point where I almost quit acting completely,
00:36because it was during the strike in 2023, and I wasn't booking anything,
00:40and I was in a really bad rut mentally.
00:43And I was like, I don't want to do this, I'm not booking.
00:46Even my agent was like, yeah, there's just nothing happening right now.
00:50And it was dark times for a lot of actors.
00:52And then I got this one audition, I didn't know what it was for.
00:56However, I sent in the tape, but it was past the due date.
01:00I didn't even send it in on time.
01:02And then, not even an hour later, my agent was like, yeah, you booked this.
01:06And then a week later, we started filming it, and that's when I met Casey.
01:10And then, months later, I think it was two months later when it came out,
01:15I was like, wow, our faces were all over TikTok.
01:18My friends, my family, people I went to high school with were sending it to me,
01:22going, like, is this you? And I was like, oh my god, it is!
01:26I was so, like, flustered, and, like, it was a weird feeling.
01:31Because I never thought that anyone would actually see it, I guess.
01:35Like, it really took me by surprise that, like,
01:38my whole For You page on TikTok was just us.
01:42Yeah.
01:42Yeah, me, and one of the craziest scenes was, like, me walking while he's, like, near the car,
01:49and then I'm, like, walking with a trash bag.
01:51And I just remember that, because I was everywhere on my For You page, and I was like, oh gosh.
01:56But it's crazy, because I only had, like, 60k on Instagram during that time,
02:01and then after that, it went up to, like, 90k.
02:04Then I did my second one, and it went to, like, 100k.
02:07So, like, my following, like, grew massively.
02:10So, like, I do, like, owe it to Real Schwartz for that,
02:13because I really do, like, just thank the universe every day that I actually sent in the tape.
02:18Because if I didn't, like, I mean, who knows?
02:20It would have been another girl that would get to sit here right now, like, doing what I'm doing.
02:26So.
02:26My agent had just let me go.
02:29So the day after, I went on the casting sites, and I was like, okay, I'm gonna, you know,
02:32start self-submitting, because I wasn't, you know, booking anything at all.
02:36And I saw the Faded to My Forbidden Alpha listing, and this Alf Alexander character,
02:42and I was like, oh, this is, like, unique.
02:43This is werewolf.
02:44This is fun.
02:45And on that side, it was labeled as a mobisode.
02:48It wasn't even labeled as a vertical.
02:49I sent in my tape.
02:51Didn't hear anything.
02:52And then a friend of mine from acting class messaged me, and she was like, hey,
02:56I'm friends with this producer.
02:57And they said they're looking for this Alf Alexander character, and they can't, like,
03:00they haven't found him yet.
03:02And I was like, oh, I actually sent in a tape for that.
03:03So I guess they didn't like it.
03:04But I was like, I'll reach out to her.
03:07So I sent her a message, and she was like, hey, Casey, yes, we saw your resume.
03:11You know, basically, we didn't see your tape yet.
03:13And so they went back and watched it, and I had it booked, like, that night.
03:17And, like, my mom was like, what did you book?
03:18Like, what are you doing?
03:19And I was like, oh, it's like a short-form episodic.
03:23And she was like, what's that?
03:24And I'm like, I don't know.
03:26I actually don't know what this is.
03:29Um, and, like, two weeks after it came out, I remember getting one message that said, like,
03:36greetings from Mexico.
03:37And then, like, another message that was like, I love you from, like, Sydney.
03:41And I was like, this isn't normal.
03:44Then it just snowballed from there.
03:46I'm so grateful that we did that show when we did, because it was early on, and we were
03:53able to lead the way.
03:56And, you know, it's led to now working full-time as an actor and building a global audience.
04:03And, you know, most, for most actors, I mean, that takes five, 10, 15, sometimes it doesn't
04:09happen.
04:09And so to do that in less than two years, that's all due to the vertical structure.
04:17I mean, you guys are both working actors now, and ever since you guys start on Faded, I'm
04:23sure there's been many opportunities that have come your way since, and we would love to hear
04:28what some of those have been.
04:30Well, you know, outside of doing a lot of vertical series, the audience building has been a really
04:37key piece.
04:37So, actually, tomorrow, I'm going to the Philippines to do a meet and greet at the Mall of Asia
04:45with vertical fans.
04:48And I'm speaking at the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines on the rise of
04:54vertical dramas.
04:55And I think that, I mean, that is obviously cool, but also the press that, you know, we
05:02have both done for various mainstream publications to, you know, really get our names out there.
05:10You know, that's been an amazing opportunity.
05:12You know, Wall Street Journal, Rolling Stone, New York Times, like, really big publications
05:17that are covering this.
05:18And that's been really, really amazing and really, really humbling.
05:23Yeah, I would say, like, just so many people reaching out wanting to know, like, what it
05:28is that we're doing exactly.
05:29Because I feel like a lot of people, especially at first, had so many different ideas as to,
05:34like, what it was, what the process was like.
05:36Since we were kind of, like, a few of the first people to start doing it, it's like, we get
05:42to say that.
05:42And that's, like, kind of special, because, like, not many people can say that.
05:46Because now it's, like, everybody's doing verticals, I feel like.
05:49Like, everyone I know has, like, started to do them.
05:51But we were doing them at a time where, like, no one really knew what it was.
05:55And, like, it wasn't exactly, like, cool yet.
05:58Like, now it's, it's the cool thing.
06:01I don't know.
06:01Like, it's, like, what everyone wants to do.
06:03My following just, like, grew massively.
06:05Like, so many, like, people from all over the world.
06:08Like, it's actually quite incredible, especially, like, the young girls that, like, follow me.
06:13Like, I couldn't ask for, like, anything better, because that is, like, I feel like the best
06:19thing.
06:19And then, like, brands just sending me, like, random packages, like PR and stuff.
06:23I was, like, I never got that before.
06:25And now it's, like, it just happens all the time.
06:27Yeah, I'm glad you brought that part up, because some of the messages that we get, these really
06:33do help people get through their life.
06:35You know, if they're, if they're going through something difficult or, you know, just need
06:39an escape.
06:40You know, I know, you know, I get messages from people who are, like, I'm so happy that
06:43I found these, like, these, these shows really make me happy.
06:47And as an actor, that's all I can ask for.
06:50How do you guys feel that you've grown as actors since starting in the verticals?
06:56My ability to keep stamina is way more than what it used to be.
07:01Like, I used to get, like, tired really easily.
07:04I mean, I still do, but doing these, like, because we shoot so much, so many scenes a
07:10day, so many pages, it just, like, I've gotten the ability to be quick on my feet.
07:15And I feel like before, like, that was something that I lacked as an actor, and I just didn't,
07:21like, I didn't push myself enough.
07:22But with these, like, I've definitely, like, pushed myself past that point.
07:25And, like, memorization.
07:27It was never that hard for me, but now it's, like, I'm pretty, pretty good with it.
07:32Like, I can just, like, know it.
07:34And to just, like, go past my comfortability.
07:38Because I'm more, I would say I'm more of, like, a subtle actress.
07:42And doing these, you have to be very expressive.
07:46And I've gotten a lot of notes from, you know, a lot of the directors telling me to, like,
07:50show more emotion.
07:51So it's also pushed me in that direction of being more theatrical, which I think that I needed.
07:56Yeah, I think, I mean, not having been on set, like, a ton, you know, before doing that first
08:00vertical series, for me, it's just been comfortability on set.
08:03Yeah.
08:04Like, knowing everyone's position, knowing what everyone's supposed to be doing, and
08:08now, you know, feeling like more of a leader on set versus someone who's, like, just sort
08:13of being told what to do, you know, with everything.
08:17I feel like I can go in and sort of see what we can do to make sure it's actually a more successful
08:22shoot.
08:23And that feels really good, because now I feel like I can go into any other type of
08:26shoot and know that what, you know, we've experienced on some of these vertical sets
08:31with the chaoticness and the pace, other sets will feel like a breeze.
08:36Yeah.
08:36So it's given us an amazing boot camp.
08:39Absolutely.
08:40I feel like you guys are both, like, on set, it's, like, second nature now.
08:44You guys just know exactly what to do and what's coming.
08:46And compared to, like, feature films or short films that are much more slower paced, you guys
08:52are, like, it's, like, being thrown to the wolves.
08:54And you just have to go, go, go.
08:56And you have to memorize 15 pages a day.
09:00And it's just, that's how it is.
09:01And you guys have both obviously risen to the occasion and have become super successful
09:07in the vertical world.
09:08And sexy.
09:11Successful and sexy.
09:12You guys have a new show.
09:17Tell us about that.
09:19I was under a lot of rain for quite a while.
09:25But I will say, like, it was a new experience because we got to shoot those scenes at Sony
09:31Studios, which was the coolest experience because none of the other verticals have done that
09:38yet, where they've shot on a studio a lot.
09:41And I thought that that was really cool that we got to experience that first.
09:45And it was just so surreal because it's, like, I've wanted to do that for so long.
09:50Like, that was, like, a dream of mine.
09:52And it was really cool that, like, I got to be there.
09:55And it just felt, it felt different.
09:57Even though I was, like, standing under, like, four different rain machines.
10:02It was so, it was so cool.
10:04I didn't get wet.
10:06That was, that was probably what made it more fun for me.
10:09And you still said that you were cold.
10:12I was still cold.
10:14The audacity.
10:15But I did bring you an umbrella in that scene.
10:18Yeah, he saved my life by bringing me an umbrella.
10:21Yeah.
10:22Yeah, I mean, that day shooting at Sony was so cool because even everyone on the crew was
10:26like, wow, this is, like, really, this is really special.
10:29Because it was also a signal of the vertical industry's assimilation into traditional Hollywood
10:34and how, you know, it's getting less and less separate or other, you know, it's really becoming
10:40a part of things.
10:42Yeah.
10:42So that was cool to be a part of that for the first time.
10:45So basically, Emily is, like, a farm girl.
10:51Right.
10:52And she, like, basically gets dumped and then you come along and...
11:00Huh?
11:00I just want to make sure I explain it in a way that's not like that.
11:03Yeah.
11:03I mean, yeah, you're a farm girl and I save you.
11:07That is, that is what happens.
11:08Yeah, I mean, so Emily...
11:09Save her from what?
11:10The rain?
11:10Emily is a farm girl and something happens kind of, like, with her boyfriend or ex-boyfriend,
11:18if you will.
11:19And I don't want to give, like, too much away, but, you know, she ends up cold, alone, and
11:25broke, you know, outside in the rain, crying.
11:28And then, you know, her Prince Charming comes and saves her with an umbrella.
11:34And for her, I think, like, for the character, because, you know, no one is ever nice to her
11:39and she's used to, like, being treated badly and being miserable, like, that was such a
11:46big moment for her because she's like, wow, like, you're being kind, like, you must want
11:52something for me.
11:53And even, like, leading into, like, when she gets into his car, like, she even, like, feels
11:57that.
11:57She's like, oh, like, you must, like, want something for me, you must want to do something
12:01to me.
12:01But, like, he's actually, like, just there for her.
12:04And, yeah.
12:05Yeah.
12:05I mean, if you liked Fade into My Forbidden Alpha, you will like this story.
12:11You will like, yeah.
12:11It's, it's.
12:12Very similar.
12:13It's that and a different packaging.
12:15Yeah.
12:16Which was fun to do.
12:17It was.
12:18Yeah.
12:18It was, like, a little tribute to.
12:21Yeah.
12:21Yeah.
12:22Yeah.
12:22I felt a.
12:23Can you guys give us a little taste of the dynamic between your two characters?
12:29Well, I think it's, like, our dynamic in real life.
12:31I attempt to be nice.
12:33And, you know, I remember when we first met, Autumn looks at me and she's like.
12:41I did not.
12:42Yes, you did.
12:43Did I actually?
12:45Yeah, yeah.
12:45I remember that.
12:46I don't think I looked at you like that.
12:48When was that?
12:50The first day at Fade.
12:52Fade.
12:53But, like, what day was it?
12:55Like, where was it?
12:56Like, I don't remember.
12:57Day one, as soon as you saw me.
12:59I looked at you like that?
13:01Yes.
13:02I don't remember that.
13:03I mean, I guess I unintentionally look at a lot of people like that.
13:06I probably looked at Amanda like that when we first met.
13:08Huh?
13:08Yeah, yeah.
13:09You're like, no.
13:11Well, because sometimes I just can't control my face and I'm just like.
13:15Yeah, that's exactly what it was.
13:17That's exactly what it was.
13:19I think that's how this story sort of starts where I'm, like, showing kindness and you're like.
13:27I am so nice to you, though.
13:30No, you are very nice.
13:32I didn't take it any sort of way.
13:34It's just funny because I think that is our dynamic.
13:38Well, I think it's because, like, you have a very, like, interesting personality.
13:43Like, I feel like on set, like, you're just so, like, weird and quirky and it's like.
13:48But, like, I am.
13:50No, I am, too, though.
13:51That's what I'm saying.
13:52And so, like, it works because, like, we feed off of each other.
13:56So, it makes it fun on set.
13:59Exactly.
13:59You know.
14:00Exactly.
14:00Yeah.
14:01It's like a funny awkwardness.
14:01Awkwardness.
14:02Yeah.
14:03But you're way more awkward, I think.
14:05I would know.
14:08Yeah.
14:11I do like to make bad jokes around her.
14:15I like to test material on her.
14:17Want to share?
14:18Want to share?
14:18He's only saying, like, and you understand my humor.
14:21Sometimes when he says jokes, I'm like, I don't really know if I do.
14:25Like, I'm like, what are you saying, dude?
14:27But where'd you get that?
14:29What?
14:30Your beauty.
14:32Aww.
14:39See, this is what I mean.
14:41Got her.
14:43This is what Casey is like on set.
14:46All the time.
14:47All the time.
14:49So, would you guys say that your characters are having a more steamy romance?
14:54Or is it something different?
14:56Um, well, during one of, like, the steamier scenes, I fell off the bed.
15:05So, but that was, like, autumn coming out.
15:08Because, like, I was supposed to, like, kind of, like, whirl myself around on the bed.
15:12And then I ended up just, like, falling on the floor.
15:15Yeah, I would say, like, there is, I guess, like, a bit more, like, sexual tension scenes in this one than in Faded.
15:25Because I think in Faded to My Forbidden Alpha, like, because it was so new, they didn't really know quite what to do with those scenes.
15:33Like, I think the most, like, intense scene was probably, like, the blindfold scene.
15:39But, like, I don't even think you were in that scene.
15:41It was me getting blindfolded, though.
15:43But, like, yeah, it wasn't, like, too steamy.
15:46So, I think this one definitely has, like, more of that kind of, like, steamy romance kind of vibe to it.
15:53Not to give anything away, but when I show up with bunny ears, suspenders, and a bow tie, no shirt, that can give you some explanation for why she very quickly rolled off the bed.
16:04So, this is your second Real Short project together.
16:11When you guys were offered the role, did you know that you would be co-stars again?
16:16Or how did you find out it was each other?
16:18So, I was, like, in New York at the time working on another one.
16:22And then I went, like, right on to ours after it.
16:26But they had, like, a couple of other options.
16:29I even read with Jake, who we worked with on In Love With the Alpha.
16:34But, for some reason, that didn't work because they thought that he looked, like, way too young.
16:38He has a baby face.
16:40So, then they asked me, they're, like, what about Casey Esser?
16:43Like, you haven't worked with him in a while.
16:45Like, was your experience good?
16:46And I was, like, yeah.
16:48Like, I was, like, it was great.
16:49Like, I don't know why.
16:50They just thought that, I don't know.
16:52Like, I don't know.
16:53So, yeah.
16:54Then I heard from him that, like, he would be down to do it.
16:58And so, we kind of knew, like, before, like, even before I got the script.
17:01So, we actually have some footage from Love in the Rainstorm.
17:06And we are going to all watch it together so we can get your reactions to some of these scenes.
17:13All right.
17:13Oh, Lord.
17:16Oh, okay.
17:19Wow, so this is not the duffel.
17:21The duffel bag.
17:22It's giving Farm Girl the gel.
17:25Oh, that guy means business.
17:27Oh, you're in love.
17:28I am.
17:29Love at first sight.
17:31Oh.
17:32Oh.
17:32You got that one.
17:33So stealthy.
17:35And I see it.
17:36Hey, you!
17:37The duffel bag is gigantic.
17:39What the?
17:43Can I ask why you have corn on the cob in your bag?
17:46Oh, it's from my family's farm.
17:48I was bringing it to my boyfriend.
17:50Oh, the rain.
17:51Oh, no.
17:52It was hard remembering my lines.
17:55Like, because I had so much rain pouring down my face.
17:57Oh, she just throws it in the rain.
18:05Yeah.
18:05Oh, he pulls out that umbrella as a flex.
18:08You know, by the way.
18:09That's where I actually started crying.
18:11That was really good, Autumn.
18:13It was really good, yeah.
18:14Yeah, I was very sad.
18:16Who is this?
18:18I wonder.
18:19Could it be Casey?
18:20Oh!
18:21With the umbrella reveal!
18:22They got the umbrella reveal!
18:24Come with me if you want to live.
18:26So do you think your characters were already starting to love each other at this point?
18:30When I saw her throw that corn on the cob, that was definitely a major turn on.
18:34And then, you know, when I saw her in the rain, I was like, oh, yeah, I gotta help her.
18:37The memories.
18:41Sweet memories.
18:42This is why I can't wash myself.
18:44Oh, my God.
18:45You are my wife.
18:47It's part of the job.
18:48You're my wife.
18:49I have to marry him to be served.
18:50I went, your house?
18:55Oh, yeah.
18:57That was like take nine of that.
18:58Yeah, we had to do that so many times.
19:02Aw.
19:03The shoes.
19:04The shoes.
19:05Oh, that was a cute dress.
19:07Aw.
19:09Touch me again and I'll call the police.
19:11Call the police.
19:12Who do you think you are?
19:18That's not good enough for you, Mr. Anderson.
19:21Wearing trash.
19:23Ah, yes.
19:24The shoes.
19:26Yeah, this is only the first of three times I put shoes on you in this.
19:31Wait, actually, that looks good.
19:35Oh.
19:35Oh.
19:36That is, as they would say, beautiful foot.
19:40Mr. Anderson.
19:42What?
19:43You're like, all right?
19:44I know, literally.
19:46Didn't know they had so much power.
19:49Thank you guys so much for joining us today.
19:51But before you go, we have to have our Real Talk tradition of the Polaroid selfie.
19:57Oh.
