Over a hundred people have been nominated for a Cardiff Vounteer Award 2025, and one of the organisers Kailee, says she can’t wait to celebrate all the volunteers who’ve been nominated.
00:00I'm very excited for the event. I'm a bit nervous, as always. I'm always, you know, there's a little bit of trepidation about how it's all going to go.
00:09It's getting closer and closer to the big event now, and Kylie says the planning is really ramping up, with all the details finally coming together.
00:17Yes, we are sort of in the thick of things now, making sure everything's ready for the 27th of November.
00:24Nominations have closed, and we received over 100 nominations again this year, which was really positive to see.
00:30I've put together all the judging packs with, you know, support from my team.
00:34Those have now gone to all of our panels, who will meet next week, to essentially decide the winners of all of the categories.
00:42And that's always a very inspiring sort of meeting and event, because people tend to be quite moved by the nominations they've read.
00:49You know, you're reading about, essentially, this huge breadth of work that's happened in the city over the past year.
00:56And some of the stories of individuals and groups are really quite powerful and emotional.
01:01So that's probably one of my favourite parts of planning the award, is actually getting to see people come together and discuss all of our nominees,
01:09and really be able to recognise the work that they've done for Cardiff.
01:15All the nominations are now officially closed, and the judging panel is hard at work trying to figure out the winners of the different awards.
01:21And there's plenty of different things that they can be judged on.
01:25So our judging panels will actually score our nominations all against three criteria.
01:30And those are going to be things around sort of overcoming personal barriers, this sort of scale of their impact,
01:37like how many people they've reached and supported, how they've built partnerships,
01:43not only with other third sector groups, but with statutory partners or private businesses.
01:48And then there's also criteria sort of dedicated to equality, diversity and inclusion.
01:52So how well that nominee has demonstrated a commitment to those principles.
01:56There are so many different organisations nominated for awards,
02:01and Kylie says it's really exciting seeing the volunteer and charity sector in Cardiff flourishing.
02:06Yeah, 100 nominations across our categories.
02:09Our most popular category this year was Volunteer of the Year, so our adult category, over 25 years of age.
02:16We had 41 nominations in that category alone.
02:19So that panel is certainly going to have a challenging time, I think, selecting one winner from all of those very, very worthy individuals.
02:28But then we also have the Volunteer Group of the Year category, which was our second most popular category this year.
02:37We had 25 different groups from across Cardiff who were put forward for nomination.
02:42And yeah, so when you're judging and scoring those nominations, obviously our panelists have to keep in mind,
02:48am I thinking about an individual and the scale of their impact, or am I thinking about a group?
02:53And how big is that group, and what kind of reach have they been able to achieve in the past year?
