We all knew we’d be hosting matches at Euro 2028 in Cardiff, but now it’s bee confirmed that the capital will be the backdrop for the opening fixture of the tournament, and if Wales qualify, we’ll be kicking off the first match.

00:00The Euros is set to be the biggest sporting event of the year in 2028
00:05and where better to kick it all off than here in Cardiff
00:08where the opening fixture as well as the opening ceremony will take place
00:11and should Wales qualify, we'll be playing in that match
00:14All the venues for the tournament have been announced
00:17with matches taking place across England, Scotland, the Republic of Ireland and Wales
00:21Wembley will host the semi-finals in the final
00:23with Cardiff, Glasgow, Dublin and London all sharing hosting duties for the quarter-finals
00:28For the purposes of the tournament, the Principality Stadium will be known as the National Stadium of Wales
00:33in a similar move to when we saw it host the 2017 Champions League final
00:37Most nations have always automatically qualified for the tournament in previous years
00:41but given four countries will play joint hosts, none will be given automatic qualification
00:46We'll all be in the usual qualifying setup
00:48and if any of the four fail to qualify, then two spots are reserved for those teams as a backstop
00:53Northern Ireland are also included in this
00:55despite them not hosting any matches throughout the tournament

01:22So Keir Starmer has said that the whole tournament will bring billions into the UK economy
01:27and we know that Cardiff, just how busy it can get on a big match day
01:30We'll be seeing six throughout the whole tournament
01:33For football fans and really anyone across Wales in the summer of 2028
