00:00Knowing, obviously, as you do, Baghdad and Washington very well, how closely watched do you think these elections were by the U.S. administration?
00:09I think they were fairly closely watched by parts of the U.S. administration.
00:13And I will say that noting that President Trump in the past month or so has appointed a special representative, Mark Savaya, from the Iraqi-American community as his representative to Iraq.
00:26So it is clear to me that the special envoy is watching the elections very carefully.
00:32And I think that that means that there is still interest in the White House in the way that this turns out.
00:37That said, the interest in the White House and the interest in President Trump and seeing what the results are in Iraq is a hope that Iraq will move away from Iranian influence and be a little more willing to work with the United States.
00:52The president has had great success in the past couple of months in working with the new president of Syria.
01:00And I think he would like to have that same kind of success in working with the new government of Iraq.
