Hundreds of boats carrying around 5,000 activists from over 60 countries filled Brazil’s Guajará Bay in Belém on Wednesday, launching the People’s Summit — a massive grassroots event held parallel to the official COP30 UN climate conference.
The colorful flotilla — featuring banners, chants, and traditional Amazonian canoes — symbolized global unity for real climate solutions and the protection of the Amazon rainforest. Organizers say the event highlights the gap between political promises made inside COP30 and the urgent calls for action from indigenous groups, local communities, and youth activists.
