The Liberal Party has formally abandoned its 2050 Net Zero emissions target, with Sussan Ley defending the decision as part of a “practical energy plan” in hopes to unite the Coalition. The Climate Council slammed the move as a “dangerous retreat from reality” that risks higher pollution and power bills.

00:00Australia should be a country where we use Australian resources to help Australians first.
00:08Australians were promised that life would be cheaper under Labor.
00:12You all remember that.
00:14But you all know that Australians have been absolutely crushed by cost of living increases.
00:21So let me first address those Australians this morning.
00:26You are paying too much for your power and it's not okay.
00:31Labor went to two elections promising you that they would deliver cheaper electricity.
00:37And instead power bills are going up 40% and that's not okay.
00:44Now I see the Prime Minister has popped up today and as usual is focused on the opposition,
00:49focused on politics, not focused where he should be on ordinary Australians who are struggling.
00:55So I just want to make it clear.
00:57Anthony Albanese lied to Australians when he said he had a plan for cheaper power prices.
01:03And every bill, every month, every quarter is a reminder of that lie.
01:12Prime Minister, when are the bills coming down?
01:16Now Labor continues to claim that their policies will deliver cheaper power but instead costs
01:21just keep going up and up and they can't tell Australians when they might be coming down.
01:26We've asked these questions many times, no answers.
01:29So the Liberal Party I lead will not stand by and let Australians get crushed by these high
01:36power prices.
01:39So today the Liberal Party has decided to put affordable energy first.
01:46We will have an energy and emissions policy driven by two key objectives, affordable, reliable
01:53power and responsible emissions reductions.
01:58And our energy and emissions policies will use Australian resources for Australian families
02:04so you pay less for your power.
02:08Now the Labor Party has tried to convince you that they can reduce emissions and reduce power
02:14prices.
02:15In fact their policy does neither.
02:19Emissions are not coming down, power prices are not coming down.
02:24We believe that done in the right way we can have emissions coming down and prices coming
02:31down because affordable energy matters.
02:35And it matters no other time greater than right here, right now.
02:40We hope and anticipate we can land, after Sunday, a joint policy.
