00:00California distinguishes itself from the current occupant in the White House in Washington, D.C.
00:06California is a stable and reliable partner.
00:10That's California Governor Gavin Newsom working to assure the global community at COP30 that his state is on their side in the fight against climate change,
00:19even if, as he claims, the Trump administration is not.
00:24The United States of America is dumb as we want to be on this topic.
00:29But the state of California is not.
00:32And so we are going to assert ourselves, we're going to lean in, and we are going to compete in this space.
00:39Newsom also championed his own state's role in combating climate change challenges,
00:44including a goal of making California carbon neutral by 2045 and push for Democrats to reframe the issue of climate change.
00:52The fourth largest economy in the world is running on 100 percent clean energy nine out of 10 days.
00:59So far this year, two thirds of our grid is clean and green, but it's not, and I'll close, about electric dominance.
01:10It's about economic dominance, and it's a cost of living issue.
01:14It's about affordability, and it's about time we start to frame it accordingly.
01:19As the Trump administration decided to skip the annual climate conference in Brazil, Newsom said he would step in,
01:26taking aim at President Trump's energy policies along the way, warning they opened the door for China to surpass the U.S. in economic power as a result,
01:35in an interview with the Associated Press at the summit.
01:37Where the hell is the United States of America? We're ceding cheap energy, green energy, infrastructure, supply change, manufacturing.
01:46We're ceding economic power to other countries, notably China, taking advantage of that absence,
01:53and they're going to clean our clock economically unless we wake up to the economic imperative and opportunities of low-carbon green growth.
02:00The White House responded to Newsom's attack by launching attacks of its own,
02:05saying in part that Newsom traveled, quote, to tout the Green News scam,
02:09while the people of California are paying some of the highest energy prices in the country. Embarrassing.
02:15California reportedly produces the most electricity from renewable energy, including solar and wind, than all other states except Texas.
02:23Newsom has been a frequent critic of big oil, while Trump has pushed for a renewed focus on oil and coal for U.S. energy.
