It’s the capital, so it’s got more shops than most other places around Wales. We’re asking people in town today if they think Cardiff is the best shopping destination for the festive season.

00:00If we see something, we buy it, and we're not one of these to start shopping in January for Christmas, we neither of us have that.
00:10Everyone loves Christmas shopping, don't they? Or maybe not. It's something that most of us have to do every year.
00:15Spend a fortune and spend hours trudging through cold weather looking for that perfect present for your auntie's third cousin's brother-in-law.
00:23Knowing where to go and where to look for Christmas presents can be half the battle.
00:28We're asking people here in Cardiff if this is the place to look or if there are better places outside the city.
00:34There's a lot of choice. We came on the coach today, because we don't drive to Cardiff, we do a park and ride, you know?
00:40Because I wouldn't be a car to Cardiff. But, yeah, it's probably a wee place, yes.
00:47I mean, we have people talking, they come in from over the bridge to come to Cardiff, you know?
00:53We have Bristol accents, and we've only got Bristol's a nice place to shop.
00:57I think Cardiff is better because it's got more variety, like it's got the apple store, whereas Swansea doesn't, Merthyr doesn't.
01:07I think Cardiff has more of the shops than Merthyr would.
01:14Bit of shopping? Absolutely.
01:16Yeah, it's got some nice, I've walked through the shopping centre a couple of times, you've got a pretty good assortment of things there.
01:24I love the markets too.
01:26Yeah, the market's good. The markets, all the local produce and stuff like that is quite good.
01:32We hear a lot of Bristol, Bristol, Bristol, yeah. We come here quite often.
01:37Yeah, we come here quite regularly, because it's only half an hour away on the porch, so it's convenient for us.
01:44One benefit to shopping here in Cardiff is the mix of everything. Obviously it's the capital, so of course it's got a lot of shops.
01:50But over Christmas, things like the handcrafted market can help find those unique presents that you might not have even known existed.
01:56In a sense, yes, I tend to lean more towards like independent retailers and small businesses and kind of look out for stuff that you wouldn't find in a bigger chain.
02:08On the way through just here, there was a stall setting up making like, there were photo frames with art made from pebbles,
02:17which if you're into like natural decoration, natural materials in your home, it's the ideal kind of handmade gift to make.
02:26Yeah, although there is one in Swansea as well. I wouldn't personally go to the Christmas market.
02:34I've seen obviously the stuff up in the castle, which looks good. I want to definitely check that out.
02:40And I think just along that street over there, behind the David's Shopping Centre, they put up a bunch of little Christmas shops too.
02:47Oh yeah, the Christmas, like the, yeah, the pop-up shops.
02:50Yeah, we'll go have a look at those.
02:51I really like mulled wine, so I hope I can find some mulled wine in these Christmas stalls, and I think I'll get lucky.
