00:00You got to protect the garden at all costs.
00:02The Rangers did that.
00:03Got their first home win on Monday.
00:05And then the Knicks handled the Grizzlies on Tuesday to stay unbeaten at home.
00:09So let's talk.
00:10Go, New York.
00:11Go, New York.
00:12Go with my guy, Alex Jotaros of Knicks Fan TV.
00:16Alex, what's going on, my man?
00:17How we feeling?
00:19Brandon, I'm feeling good, man.
00:21You know, Knicks are on a five-game winning streak.
00:23They're defending home court, 7-0 at home.
00:25It's a great time to be a Knicks fan right now.
00:27Great time to be a Knicks fan, man.
00:28So let's talk about this box score because it was jumping like the club last night.
00:3333 points off, 22 turnovers.
00:36They shot 55 threes, and they hit 22 of them things.
00:40And then it's the third straight game where they've scored over $1.30 in points.
00:44Give us your takeaways from Tuesday night.
00:46And are you kind of finally seeing what this team is or what this identity could be?
00:54Well, the biggest takeaway right now for this team, Brandon,
00:56is that this team is just firing on all cylinders offensively.
01:00Mike Brown has got these guys playing decisively and quick-minded.
01:04They're not the fastest team out there in the NBA right now.
01:06They're not going to go up there, be a, you know, Showtime Lakers running and gunning.
01:10But what they are doing at a high level is processing the game at a faster pace than their opponents so far.
01:15I mean, look, the last three games, Brandon, they have scored over 130 points.
01:20They have never done this.
01:21The last three consecutive games, the New York Knicks have scored over 130 points against the Timberwolves,
01:28against the Nets, and now against the Memphis Grizzlies.
01:30And some may say, oh, look at the opponents that they're playing the last two,
01:33especially the Memphis Grizzlies are not that great, and the Nets are the Nets.
01:37But, hey, they're out there, and they're doing it, and they're executing at a high level.
01:39I mean, two games, I can tell you, the last two games, this team has put up 77 points in the first half
01:46and hold their opponents to under 55.
01:48So they're not only playing offense at a high level, they're also playing defense at a high level
01:54and opportunistic defense.
01:56They're getting in the steals, getting out in transition,
01:58and they're doing what they need to do to be a formidable team.
02:02Yeah, and you can't help who's on your schedule, right?
02:04If it's a bum team that's on the schedule, you've got to beat the bum team.
02:08And when we talk about, like, this team and how resilient that they've been
02:13at the start of the season, at one point, Alex, we saw it was tied at 30,
02:17and then they turn it on, they go on a 19-0 run.
02:19Grizzlies got close to getting in the fourth.
02:21They turn it on again.
02:23Last season, when we were doing these interviews, we talked about how they continue
02:27to play with their food and play down to their competition at time.
02:31This year, we're not really seeing that.
02:33So, if you were to give the credit, what do you or who do you give the credit to?
02:38A deeper bench, the overall pace on offense, or just more consistency on the defensive side
02:44of basketball?
02:46Look, you've got to give credit to all phases of the game and of the team.
02:51You know, that's the head coach being able to instill, you know, what their identity is,
02:55which is a fast-paced thinking team and a very opportunistic defense.
03:00You've got to give credit to Mike Brown for instilling that in this team and that they're
03:04buying in and they're playing at that high level.
03:06Then you've got to go down to the players, because they're executing on a night-to-night
03:10basis, all right?
03:11You said it yourself, Brandon.
03:13They're not playing with their food, and that has to go to the players as well, because they're
03:17being locked in, they're focused, they understand what the mission is.
03:21They have bigger aspirations than just having the most wins during the regular season.
03:24Their aspirations are to go win an NBA championship right now.
03:28So, when you look at how they're executing on a night-to-night basis, that looks like
03:31a team that has, you know, that has bought in together and they have a singular focus.
03:35And yeah, you've got to give credit to the bench.
03:37I mean, look, you've got Jordan Clarkson on this bench, another guy next to Jalen Brunson
03:41who can create his own shot, doesn't need, you know, constant, like, doesn't need to be
03:46constantly set up, right?
03:48And when you watch him out there, he's been one of the most efficient players coming off
03:51the bench.
03:51He's shooting 47% from the field right now, closing in on 50%.
03:55And this guy, over the last seven games, he, out of the last five or seven games, he's
03:59in double digits.
04:00So, when he's coming off the bench, he's not only scoring efficiently, he's giving you double
04:04digit efforts as well and helping you create that separation.
04:08And so, you know, guys like him, Deuce McBride, you know, you have Josh Hart coming off the
04:12bench now, where it seems like he's more comfortable in that role.
04:14And he's really figured himself out after having a down game against, I believe it was the Bulls.
04:20So, guys are figuring out, guys are locked in.
04:22You have a deeper bench, the head coach, and the coaching staff has these guys locked in.
04:26It's a credit to all three phases, in my opinion.
04:29If I had a phrase where I could label the years past, the bench in years past, I would
04:35say champagne taste with beer money.
04:38This year, you can have championship-like aspiration because the bench is truly, truly deeper, and
04:45you're seeing that night in, night out.
04:47All right.
04:47So, here's a big, big, big one.
04:49I'm going to put you on the spot here, Alice.
04:50You got the Magic tonight, then you got the rematch against the Heat Friday to close out
04:55this seven-game home stretch.
04:57What are these two games going to tell you about this team exactly?
05:01Look, defending home court is very important.
05:04And right now, they're undefeated.
05:06They're 7-0 at home.
05:08I'm not a big believer in this NBA where you need to have home court advantage to win an
05:13NBA championship.
05:14But when you're doing it in a convincing way, then to me, that gives me a signal saying,
05:21oh, home court advantage does matter to you.
05:25And maybe if you do gun for that, not necessarily saying the Knicks need to gun for that, because
05:29as we discussed earlier in the season, Brandon, I don't think they necessarily need to have
05:33the number one seed just because, you know, they should pace themselves and get ready for
05:37April until June.
05:38But if they are demonstrating that when they're at home, they're just like knocking teams out,
05:43then you might have to change course and say, hey, we got to do everything possible to get
05:46that home court advantage.
05:48And if the Knicks are able to defeat Miami and defeat Orlando tonight, and then you talk
05:54about Friday and continue to do this in convincing fashion, then I think we have to have another
05:59conversation about maybe getting the number one overall seed in the East.
06:03Eastern Conference is important to this team.
06:05But as of right now, it's going to start tonight against Orlando, and it's going to be Friday
06:09against Miami.
06:10All right, Alex, appreciate you hopping on, my man.
06:13Appreciate you as always, my guy.
