Mexican authorities have deployed nearly 2,000 soldiers and National Guard members to Michoacan as part of the government’s “Plan for Peace and Justice.” The operation aims to combat organized crime, dismantle drug labs, and stop extortion and kidnappings in the region.

The deployment comes after recent waves of violence, including the killing of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo during Day of the Dead celebrations. Citizens and local producers, especially in the avocado and lime industries, have faced increasing threats from criminal groups.

The security plan is expected to bring over 10,500 personnel from Mexico’s army, air force, and National Guard to Michoacan and surrounding areas in coming weeks.
