Transcript
00:00If you have a holiday cactus or you're thinking of getting one, stay tuned as we break down
00:04the essentials, light, location, watering, temperature, and humidity.
00:10The best spot for this type of plant has bright indirect light.
00:14The Christmas cactus will adapt to low light, but the plant will produce more blooms if
00:19exposed to brighter light.
00:20However, too much direct sunlight can burn its leaves.
00:25They prefer temperatures that most humans prefer, around 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit,
00:30making them an ideal houseplant.
00:32Keeping them away from drafty doors, blowing heaters, and fireplaces will also help maintain
00:37their preferred climate.
00:39How often you water this plant depends on where you have it, the time of year, and the size
00:43of the pot.
00:44Typically, they need water every one to three weeks, but check the plant once per week.
00:50Allow the soil to dry between waterings, but never dry out completely.
00:54If any extra water sits in its saucer, be sure to pour it out, as the plant does not like
00:59wet feet.
01:01These plants also like it humid.
01:03If you live in an area with rich, humid air, there may be enough humidity to make the plants
01:07happy.
01:08But for the rest of us, we will need to create false humidity.
01:12A simple solution to low humidity is to place a tray of pebbles filled with water underneath
01:17the plant and its pot.
01:19The water will evaporate, moisten the air, and create humidity for the plant.
01:24Just make sure to never let the plant sit in water, only on top of the pebbles.
01:30Now you have the know-how to give your holiday cactus the care it deserves.
01:33Until next time, happy gardening!
