Eclipse-Worthy Trio New at Ashford Stud

Coolmore’s Ashford Stud will add three new stallions to their roster, each with the distinction of holding Eclipse Award honors. Sierra Leone, Fierceness and Citizen Bull are set to begin their stallion careers in 2026.

00:00It's a big year ahead for Coolmore's Ashford stud, as they add three champions to their roster in 2026.

00:07Fierceness and Citizen Bowl were both champions at two,

00:10while Sierra Leone became the first horse to win the Breeders' Cup Classic in the Coolmore colors.

00:15Here, Adrian Wallace introduces us to the new arrivals.

00:18So for 2026, we're delighted to welcome here at Ashford stud, Fierceness, Sierra Leone and of course Citizen Bowl.

00:34They've settled in really, really well and they arrive late on Sunday evening.

00:38They're available for breeders now as we speak.

00:40We've been very privileged here at Ashford stud to stand some brilliant, brilliant horses.

00:44The Citizen Bowl is now the 10th Clips award-winning juvenile to stand here at Ashford stud,

00:49and Fierceness is the ninth.

00:52A Citizen Bowl himself, a son of the great into mischief,

00:55he was into mischiefs first and at the moment only a Clips award-winning juvenile.

00:59Dual grade one winner at two for Bob Baffert and the team of SF.

01:04Was seen to great effect this year in the Breeders' Cup when running amazing, amazing fractions in the Breeders' Cup dirt mile.

01:11He set a blazing pace and just missed to Nysos.

01:14It's going to be Nysos or Citizen Bowl in the dirt mile!

01:18It is too close to Cole!

01:21He's bred on the same cross as Practical Joke and Life is Good from the family of juvenile champions

01:26such as Favourite Trick and Eclipse award winner, Tis the Law.

01:30He's 16-1, he's got great balance, great power.

01:33He's a very, very good mover.

01:35He's got the pedigree, he's got the power, he's got the performance on the racetrack

01:38and when breeders see him, they'll want to send him a mare.

01:41Sierra Leone is one of those horses that probably if he was a human, you'd probably hate him.

01:46He's good looking, he's talented, he's got it all.

01:49He was a $2.3 million sales topper at the Faisley Tipton Saratoga sale.

01:53He has been nothing short of a wonder horse for us.

01:56He's the first horse we've ever had to win the Breeders' Cup Classic in the Coolmore Colours.

02:01The son of the great gun runner from a wonderful, wonderful female family.

02:05He is a horse that was a model of consistency, brilliant determination and power throughout his career.

02:11Never had the money in all 14 of his starts.

02:14And he debuted in TDN Rising Star Fashion at Aqueduct in a very impressive race.

02:20And then as a three-year-old he took all before him.

02:23Winning the Risen Star, winning the Bluegrass, narrowly finishing second in the Kentucky Derby.

02:28A horse that ran with immense credit throughout his three-year-old career.

02:33Culminating in a championship winning effort in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

02:37Sierra Leone does it in the Breeders' Cup Classic!

02:41And this year, who can ever forget his win in the Whitney and his bang-up second forever young in this year's Breeders' Cup Classic.

02:48He will get some of the best mares that Coolmore has, that Peter Brandt has, that Coolmore Partners have.

02:53And I believe that he will get some of the very best mares available in the American market today.

02:57Fierceness is as Fierceness does.

03:02He ran with such heart, such consistency and such brilliance throughout his three-year campaign.

03:08More than six length winner on his debut.

03:10And then taking a very impressive Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

03:14One of his most impressive races was that Florida Derby, winning by almost 12 lengths.

03:19His figures are amazing.

03:21He ran 10, 100 plus buyers throughout his career.

03:24Amazingly consistent.

03:26He showed precocity.

03:28He showed heart.

03:29He showed determination.

03:30Winning four grade ones.

03:31And I think he's the horse that really Breeders are going to really want to get behind once they see him.

03:35The three new stallions were standing.

03:37Sierra Leone, Fierceness and Citizen Bull.

03:39They're going to appeal to pretty much every mare in the American market.

03:42Two of them were Eclipse Award winners at two.

03:44And obviously Sierra Leone was an Eclipse Award winning three-year-old.

03:47I think these three horses will be in contention for year-end honours for 2025 as well.

03:53But it's up to us now to try and cement their legacy going forward.
