Is technology making us feel more or less connected? That's the question we addressed during The After Show. Does technology open up a whole new world and connect us in a real way? Or does it just make people more lonely. #technology #connection

00:05to do with technology pebbles yeah like do you think technology has made us more connected
00:12or more lonely because i've seen arguments on both sides yeah well the only argument for me
00:19for more connected like in a positive way is you other than that i think it's more lonely really
00:25i don't feel lonely and i love my technology yeah but it's like fake connection it's not
00:33real connection but that's not what we're asking it's got nothing to do with fake and real
00:38it's more so do you feel lonely which i don't
00:43i i just think about for me what do i use technology for and most of it has to do with
00:49when i'm home alone i scroll on my phone so much and i just feel like without that i feel like
00:57i'd be bored so but you're using it more for entertainment slash you're kind of a weird like
01:05voyeur um more than more than connection like person to person connection yeah pebbles is again
01:13one of the few like probably if i really think about it i could come up maybe a handful of people who
01:18are like i've connected with people um you know who we share same interests that are kind of using
01:24it the right way like even people who connect with people of the same interest a lot of times it's like
01:29a weird fetish that like they're like oh somebody else is into this weird thing pebbles is normal i don't
01:36and i uh relatively normal right i mean i think too you have to think about connection not even i
01:47think a lot of times when we think technology a lot of people always think about social media
01:52but like when you think about like advancements in technology and how i think of connectedness
01:58not just like so and so like in your state or whatever like think about the connections you make like
02:06around the world like watching certain things and knowing that somebody from completely across the
02:13world is watching the same thing and in some weird way you feel connected to them yeah no that's
02:21i don't know it's definitely flattened the world it makes the world a little you know more accessible
02:27yeah yeah i like that part of it because i think like we read a lot about cultures and um i don't
02:34know i just have a huge interest in i mean obviously now i'm into like south korea i'm looking into that a
02:41lot but it's like when you think about like when you travel somewhere or whatever and how different
02:47it is now that you can actually meet someone that you're going to go to a vacation halfway
02:54across the world yeah i don't know i think that's kind of cool it is you know i mean there's pros and
03:00cons there's yeah there is because yeah you could you know yeah well there's also like the con of like
03:04you get so into you only connect with people who you have similar whatever with and you start
03:13blocking out everybody else and some people can do that and be like oh it's cool i'm into this you're
03:19not into this we can coexist some people get so deep into being into whatever they're into that they're
03:24like you don't like this there's something wrong with you therefore i don't like you do you know what
03:29i'm saying yeah so i think i think it's again you're one of the few that but i had to like i
03:36had to you know check myself too a little bit because you know i because i'm so into like bts and
03:44the latest like friends that i've made that i hang out with a lot i'm like all right am i really balancing
03:51my life like am i making sure i'm staying you know in touch with my with all of my friends you
03:57know what i mean yeah because i have friends from all over and so not as much i had to check myself
04:04and say am i really you know balancing it out because it's real easy when you're really into
04:10like one thing to kind of head in that direction i don't know i can throw in some negative connections
04:16that technology has made look at it just was on the news today about the woman who got scammed because
04:23somebody created an ai video of a star that she loved and scammed her out of her life savings
04:30oh yeah i feel bad that old people can't like i don't even know what the word is but they can't
04:37like decipher like obvious ai you know what i'm saying like like i mean did you see the video
04:44though it was obvious it looked romero it was i wouldn't i'm only i'm not defending old people
04:51i'm just saying like i feel like even some people that aren't old would have fallen for it that's all
04:57i think people i don't know what the age is i don't know what the age is but there's an age
05:04where there's a cutoff age where you aren't if you fall under that age yeah you are not going to fall
05:10for that particular ai scale you i'm not saying you won't fall for anything because the ai is
05:14constantly advancing but that particular one where it's a celebrity saying typical cliche phrases and
05:20the mouth isn't really necessarily matching up to the audio like that's just like a skill that you
05:25should just know i just think if people have been around technology long enough just like pick that up
05:30but there are some old people who are like they can't connect that that that that something like
05:35that could be created it's hard to tell because even like leroy you mentioned with ai sometimes
05:42what's real and what's fake because you said we had a meeting and oh our boss looks like she was ai
05:50i swear that was fake i swear and i just think i just think she looks like ai in real life
05:57what anyway i just get real quick while when it comes to technology i think there is it has always
06:04been a great opportunity to connect but i'm not going to blame technology i blame us i because
06:10we use it for stupidness myself included like i could sit back and probably learn some new languages
06:16and then go out and meet some people who speak those languages and you know but i'm on there
06:21you're playing nuts and bolts exactly that's what i'm doing so i'm i want to blame technology
06:27and say it's the reason why uh we're not connecting or through it we're not connecting that great but
06:33ultimately it just i think it comes down to us as humans including myself so you think it keeps us
06:39from making real connections or it has the potential it's made it easier for us to be stupid it no it's
06:45not we're not making real connections because okay think about it when you're in a room with people
06:54there's energy that's being i'm a big energy guy but there is an energy that's being
06:58shared in the room with people and there's a certain
07:06how could i say this you'll walk into a room you start talking to somebody i i know for myself in
07:12particular because my sense of humor is is unique it's unique no it's it's way different than some
07:19other people's sense of humor it's way over the line for some people so if i'm in a room with a group of
07:25people already in my head i'm calculating and bringing and sometimes dialing it back or sometimes
07:31dialing it up depending on the energy i'm feeling and getting from other people you don't really get
07:36that through technology because it's just words being typed out do you know what i'm saying yeah
07:40yeah but can i give you the flip side to that and i i absolutely agree with what you're saying
07:44but what i'm saying is let's just take facebook i'm probably able to be in contact with
07:50every person i grew up with on facebook they're all on there do i reach out no what do i do i go on
07:58there and i get caught up in 50 50 relationship conversations and watching videos and all that
08:05so that's what i'm saying technology has the potential to help us connect but we i choose to
08:12just do the most easiest random low-hanging fruit stuff on there i got access to everybody i grew up
08:19with but why honestly do you want to be in contact with everybody ever like there's i like to i don't
08:26necessarily think i want to be in contact but i love getting updates and seeing what they're all doing
08:31right and i don't use it to connect with them away from social media like going out and like hey let's
08:37all get together i don't use it but do you want to do that with everybody 95 of the people that like
08:43even that i've connected with on social media i'm like i really don't want to hang out with you
08:46wow i just thought of one from melissa you know how the you're always watching some guy that plays
08:53slot machines or something like do you get the same feeling as when you're like actually at the
09:01casino like no watching someone oh watching someone yeah watching someone play like do you feel like you
09:08get the same maybe it's not exactly the same because i have a better connection like i have a connection
09:12more to the person i know and i'm rooting for them to win but yeah i don't know yeah i guess like
09:20sometimes it goes back to that the energy thing that you were talking about romero like
09:26i i there is something to that to like 100 in the same room with someone although you know
09:35logistically you can't always be with yeah same room with people but i mean i'll give you another
09:41example people always ask me about the show they go do you do it from home and i'm like no and they
09:46go could you and i said maybe if it was an emergency situation something like that maybe if i pushed on
09:53it but i don't want to i'd rather be in the room with the people because there's something taken away
09:58when it's there's like a screen and i'm i'm in one location you're in another it's like the same when
10:03we do interviews yeah like it's so much better when they're in the studio 100 yeah i i i i think
10:12people people who've experienced in person and all that stuff and it's almost like people who've never
10:18done anything but online dating there's something that they're missing i don't know what it is but
10:22there's something that somebody who online dates i agree with you but you've also dated the other way
10:27too right that's what i mean like but there's a generation now that's only online dated so there's
10:32like i mean if i if you gave me time to think about i could probably write down a list of like the
10:36things that they're like missing but it's it's a connection thing it's it's easy to break up with
10:43someone if you've never met like it never met met him once and it's easy you're you just kind of like
10:51delete them like there's a big difference between that and and maybe that's why ghosting is so huge
10:59because people don't feel you know that same connection yeah it's like exactly they're like
11:05what do you mean what what else am i gonna do why do i need to like tell them like they didn't get it
11:10when i didn't respond you know i'm saying like that type of thing oh it's so hard like there's great
11:17stuff about technology and then there's stuff that just makes yeah at the end of the day it's
11:21like how the person uses it it's always somebody who's going to take it to the gutter no matter
11:24what it is no matter what it is get off the nuts and bolts and that's not even a gutter stay on the
11:30nuts and bolts because the fact that you are number one ranked in the world in anything is one of the
11:35most impressive things i already took it off my phone oh wow i was literally i was wasting points
11:42with me the other day when you told me you were number one at a stupid game i was wasting too much
11:46time i was wasting hours i'd get upset if i got on and saw someone had a lead over me and they could
11:52have a two thousand point lead and it takes a long time to get let's say two thousand points but i'm
11:57like i'm going to and you said that's not even the gutter that's not what's the gutter what are you
12:02doing no i'm not not for me i'm saying for mankind and technology nuts and bolts is i don't know
12:09maybe the first floor but the gutter is yeah the gutter is missing a massive event because you were
12:15trying to keep your nuts and bolts the gutter is like where were you sending uh pictures of
12:25the wood what's the wood you know it could be you don't know because we keep you out of that
12:31we don't want you in the gutter i don't want to be but i mean it could be a the patriots won the
12:36super bowl yeah and here come a patriots me with wood from ramiro that's and that's still not even
12:44the gutter that's close that's the curve that ain't the gutter don't forget to like and subscribe
