00:00UPCO has decided to leave Pakatan Harapan today, more than four years after joining the coalition.
00:06In a statement, the party's Secretary-General, Nelson Angang, said the decision was made after taking into account its time in PH
00:14and the sentiment among Sabahans for local parties to join forces.
00:18He said UPCO's two MPs, President Iwan Benedict and Honorary President Wilfred Madias Tangau,
00:25will continue to back Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration.
00:29Nelson noted that during its four years in PH, UPCO had always pushed its Sabah-first agenda
00:35when it came to matters linked to the coalition's election manifesto and at cabinet meetings.
00:41However, he said the party had observed a growing disconnect between its position and that of the PH components at the national level,
00:47particularly over Sabah's entitlement to 40% of federal revenue and the call for one-third of parliamentary seats for East Malaysia.
00:55He added that there was also failure to grant autonomy to Sabah PH.
01:01Natasha Bust, FMT.
