00:00Regional Aussies are reporting stronger community ties, greater life satisfaction and more trust in local news than those living in major cities, according to the 2025 Heartbeat of Australia report.
00:12The study, conducted by ACM, Australian Regional Insights and the University of Canberra, surveyed more than 7,300 people nationwide.
00:21It found that 70% of tree and sea changes felt life had improved since leaving the city, with nearly half moving for lifestyle reasons.
00:30The survey also found 6 in 10 regional respondents trusted local newspapers and online outlets more than any other media.
00:37With 78% wanting to stay informed about their community, the findings highlighted how local journalism remains essential to regional well-being and can help strengthen the ties that hold communities together.
