00:00Ground for the KFC 2020 International between Australia and New Zealand.
00:05Our commentators upstairs will show you both the teams.
00:08We join James Brayshaw, Adam Gilchrist and Mark Taylor.
00:12Thank you Mark, Michael and Ian down on the field there.
00:14It's a great sight that, looking back towards the city.
00:17The good news is, as the boys just mentioned there, it's not raining.
00:21And we've had a little bit of showers throughout the day's play,
00:23but it certainly has broken up a little bit.
00:25So fingers crossed that we get 40 overs of good fun here
00:28to finish off a great season.
00:30Here's James Franklin.
00:32And Warner, straight to short, fine leg,
00:35and Haddon scampers through for the first run of the game.
00:38So Brad Haddon's alive and well and ready to go.
00:41We've got a couple of gunslingers at the crease too.
00:44Brad Haddon has shown in the last month
00:45that he's more than capable at the top of the order.
00:47And Dave Warner, spoke about just a moment ago,
00:50tore the thing to shreds at the start of the 2020 summer.
00:53And then Hussey Ferguson's shown a bit.
00:55But Bogis, Cam White, Henriques haven't seen much of him.
00:59So really looking forward to seeing
01:00what that top order Gilly can do tonight.
01:05Haddon straight away uses his feet, as he often does.
01:08And look for two as well.
01:10Coming back.
01:12Oh, Dave Warner.
01:13Far in.
01:14He was in a bit of trouble.
01:16But Haddon is on the go already.
01:17You can see his intent from being at the non-strikers in ball one.
01:22He picked up a quick single and now he turns this one into a two.
01:27Straight away, the intensity of this game.
01:29You can see the pace.
01:31There's not far for that ball to be delivered.
01:34And Warner really had to go at the end.
01:36Gives him the thumbs up.
01:37Yep.
01:38Well, I suppose a characteristic of looking down
01:40as the bowler is running in.
01:41There's the New Zealand side.
01:43One, two, three, four, five debutantes there.
01:46Brendan McCollum, 19 matches.
01:48International 2020, as that is.
01:49And Daniel Vittori, 12 matches.
01:51So a bit of experience there.
01:53Peter Fulton back in the side.
01:55Good shot.
01:56There's Brad Haddon at his best.
01:58He's in good form.
01:59Outfield's a little slow, but it still gets there.
02:03That is high-quality batting.
02:06Ian O'Brien bought into the attack.
02:08That's a lovely shot.
02:12That was just guided by Warner.
02:14No great flourish there or great slog.
02:16That's just an authentic cricket shot.
02:19But it was a nice shot.
02:21And that's what he's got to do.
02:22Just relax and bat the way he can.
02:27Yeah, he always keen to just get one away early.
02:30Well, that's four.
02:34The Australian stand-in captain doesn't even move after that one.
02:38He dragged down a couple of balls before overcompensates.
02:42And Haddon smashes it back down the ground.
02:50Oh, look at that.
02:51That follows Haddon earlier in the over.
02:53Dave Warner's away.
02:57That's a bat off.
02:59Believe it or not, Brash, I was trying my best while I was noodling away.
03:03But I wasn't producing anything like this from Warner.
03:06Look down the bottom.
03:08Beautiful shot.
03:09So well balanced.
03:11Nearly takes out his batting partner.
03:13I like this.
03:14I like him standing still.
03:16No premeditated movement.
03:17Clear head.
03:19Watch him go.
03:20Down the ground again.
03:26Boy, hits the ball hard.
03:28Really hard.
03:30Mid-off didn't have far to move there and no chance.
03:33It's actually very wide, Dan Vittori.
03:35We've got a great view from the commentary position.
03:38He has snuck very wide for a right arm over bowler.
03:41Bowling to a left-handed batsman.
03:42And Dave Warner didn't even need the gap to be that big.
03:45It was half volley and he punished it.
03:50Across the seam delivery there from Tim Southey.
03:52Trying to take the pace off it.
03:54Scrambled seam.
03:55Didn't make too much difference.
04:03Now the single.
04:05And already those fieldsmen who are up inside the circle are all staying on the circle.
04:09They're not hunting the one anymore.
04:11They're giving up the single to try and save boundaries.
04:13Well, there's every chance you could pretty much play tip and run if you wanted to.
04:22But the way these guys are thinking is so much intent.
04:25They both have this power game that I don't think they're content with dropping it at their feet and hitting ones.
04:31They're going through or over the infield.
04:35Oh, he's got him, has he?
04:36Oh, well done.
04:37Tim Southey, good catch.
04:39Never easy in your follow through.
04:41To stop at the presence of mind.
04:45The first parity in the air.
04:47And then to remain calm and grab the ball.
04:49Good catch.
04:50Brad Haddon wheeled straight around and had a look at Paul Rifle.
04:53And said, well, am I going to get a call?
04:55Because he thought it was a no ball above hip height.
04:58He didn't get the call.
04:59That's the end of Brad Haddon.
05:00And the first we are down.
05:01One for 34.
05:04Oh, he goes again.
05:06And it finds the boundary again.
05:09This time off the back foot.
05:10He's got all the shots.
05:14Again, the length of the ball led to the shot.
05:17I'm not sure that the New Zealand skipper would be overly happy with O'Brien landing it halfway down.
05:22Especially in the early overs when he can only have two outside the circle.
05:26And that was ready to go and it went.
05:28I'm interested to find out what the New Zealand captain thinks of their bowling so far.
05:33Might go down to him in just a moment.
05:34We've got rid of Brad Haddon caught in bowl.
05:42But you've got to get rid of Dave Warner yet, Daniel.
05:44Yeah, it's great when a plan comes off, doesn't it, to get rid of the opposition skipper.
05:48Big full toss.
05:49I think with Warner, when we hit the right areas, it's tough for him to score when we get a bit straight to him.
05:56Obviously plays into his arc.
05:58So just finish chastising Ian O'Brien about his first ball and hopefully we get the right result from here.
06:03So what's the plan, mate?
06:04Where do you got to bowl to him?
06:05Up?
06:05One sec.
06:10You've got him.
06:11Oh, there's the plan.
06:13Up to mid-off and straight back to him.
06:15You're a genius.
06:18Fuck what it is.
06:19It's come to me.
06:20Oh, he's not going to talk to us.
06:22What a shame.
06:22No, no, I'm still here.
06:23Dan, chance to give yourself a wrap, mate.
06:24How good was that?
06:25Yeah, yeah.
06:27Finally put it in the right spot.
06:28Yeah.
06:30I think you finally got your field right.
06:33That hurt a little.
06:34Well done.
06:34They've got rid of David Warner, the danger man.
06:36Out for 23.
06:38Two for 38.
06:40Through the Chapel Hadley and that one is hit beautifully through the offside.
06:45And Ferguson opens his account with a boundary.
06:49He opens his blade to get the boundary.
06:51This is an area that Callum Ferguson will quickly get a reputation.
06:54He is superb square of the wicket on the offside.
06:57He lets the ball come to him.
07:00And he really knows what he's doing with that stroke.
07:02Great natural hands.
07:05Almost like he's played a lot of squash or hockey.
07:08And balls in.
07:13Butler gets one through the defences of Ferguson.
07:18It's wickets that are going to count for the Blackcaps here.
07:21There's another one.
07:24Class bowling that was.
07:25Butler's looked pretty good.
07:26He's one of the players making his debut.
07:28There are six in the game making their debut tonight.
07:31Basking off this excited crowd here.
07:34Just eight for Ferguson.
07:35It's three for 52.
07:38Oh, swung away beautifully.
07:41There's a boundary that will calm the nerves of that young man.
07:44Adam Voges is a final round cricketer.
07:52Slats mentioning that he'll bowl some left arm orthodox later on in the night.
07:56But for batting hand, he's versatile.
08:00He can get all parts of the ground covered.
08:03Just straying slightly too far towards the leg there.
08:06But Leavitt, Voges, is good enough to whip it away.
08:11Oh, it's a lovely shot.
08:13The ball was full and it's going to get to the rope.
08:18Nice piece of batting.
08:19Turned it into a full toss.
08:21It may have been one anyway.
08:22And kicked a vacant part of the ground.
08:25Well, I was just about to say that one thing that the Kiwi bowlers have done well
08:29when they're under pressure is bowl Yorkers.
08:31I think that was another attempted Yorker there for me and O'Brien.
08:36Voges did well.
08:40Swung away.
08:41All the way.
08:43That's the first six of the innings and it's a big one.
08:47I need a few more, the Aussies.
08:49That sort of shot, that sort of result.
08:52Hundreds now brought up in the 15th over.
08:55This is the 50 partnership between these two.
08:57Only off 45 balls, so now they've got something going.
09:01Two and then this.
09:03I'm accenting.
09:04But it was very cleanly hit.
09:07I've seen that white ball travel through the night.
09:10That's close.
09:11That's really close.
09:12That's out.
09:12Clever.
09:14Clever bowling from Elliott.
09:16Over pitching.
09:19Dispatched over the fence, but comes in.
09:21Great courage.
09:23We saw this slow ball that he used in the one-day series, but great courage to come in there
09:28after being dispatched for six.
09:30Picks up Adam Voges for 26.
09:32Australia, four for 104.
09:36Oh, yeah.
09:37Slow ball again.
09:40White's off the mark with a single.
09:4311 and a wicket from that over.
09:44Four for 105.
09:44Cameron White's just at the crease, vice-captain for tonight's game, changing commentary.
09:52Ian Healy's moved in.
09:53Michael Slater's with him, and the first voice you'll hear is that of Mark Nichols.
09:56That is clever.
10:00A slower ball that might have just held its line, no question.
10:06Easy one for Paul Reifel.
10:07We've seen a vastly improved performance from a number of the Black Cat players, but Grant
10:15Elliott has shone through all the one-day cricket.
10:18He's taken responsibility.
10:19Revelling in his position on this side.
10:27This is quite a tough battle now for the 150.
10:30Brad Hatton said he thought 160 was par.
10:33150's hard work for the Aussies.
10:38Well, the good thing, Hussie's going now.
10:4032 from 33 can even pick up that pace more angrily.
10:44Cameron White is a hitter, a big hitter.
10:47So, if he can get himself going, I think they can get there.
10:50And he hasn't got himself going at times where he's come in with a lot to do.
10:54I've lost early weeks in the one-dayers, and he's been a bit muddled in his thinking
10:58and his stroke play, but now he's got 4.2 overs to go for it.
11:02We should see the best of him.
11:07I haven't really seen him hit big for a bit.
11:12People have bowled very well at him.
11:13Like anybody who goes big, he just needs a few balls to get in.
11:18Strike rates are good overall for the Australians.
11:22David Hussie's just under the 100 mark.
11:25Callum Ferguson was 88.
11:26All the others above 100.
11:30Oh!
11:30Saw you coming.
11:36It might have been, aren't you coming?
11:38He was thinking one way.
11:40Hussie didn't deliver.
11:43Stop.
11:43Start again.
11:46All right, brilliant.
11:47Brilliant.
11:48That wasn't easy off that length of ball.
11:52David Hussie looks at the goods.
11:53It's 4 for 1-1-4.
11:55Three good overs to start with from Ian Butler.
12:02Excellent Yorker picks up the wicket of Callum Ferguson.
12:08It's a nice little momentum here for the Australians.
12:11Hussie definitely benefiting from the confidence he got
12:13with his match-winning innings in Adelaide.
12:16And Hussie can really go now.
12:21He can just blast his way to anything,
12:24maybe even destruction.
12:27And then White can pick up if Hussie has to exit.
12:30And then Enriquez hopes and Siddall after that.
12:37It's a big series.
12:39It's up there with Greggy talking about underbelly.
12:42That was, that was full on.
12:46We're into the 17th over.
12:474 for 1-1-8.
12:49Brad Haddon told us 160 was par in his view.
12:52He might just have overrated par.
12:55They can still get there.
12:56Cameron White, he's the secret.
12:58Hussie's going.
13:00We've all seen him.
13:01When he gets going, you cannot stop him.
13:03And his ground's not big enough.
13:05But he's just got to get that first one away.
13:07Hasn't it a boundary yet?
13:08Cam, have you got us?
13:18Cameron?
13:19Cam White, have you got us?
13:21Yeah, I have. How are you doing?
13:22Good, mate.
13:22Listen, how's that pitch?
13:24Is the ball sticking in it a bit,
13:26a little harder to play strokes than we thought?
13:28Maybe if you bowl it's back of a length,
13:29but they're only quite full at the moment,
13:31so it's a bit hard to tell.
13:33Brad Haddon said 160 is par.
13:35What do you think?
13:36If we can get there, that'll be pretty good.
13:38But hopefully Dave can smack this one.
13:40Do you think it's better than par, 160?
13:42Nah, I reckon that's about par.
13:44I think, yeah.
13:53Wyattie, just a quick one, mate.
13:55I keep saying what a big hitter you are,
13:57and that once you get that first six away,
13:59you'll be right.
13:59Are you thinking six?
14:01I'm thinking six now, yeah.
14:02But, yeah, it's the first one
14:03that always seems to trouble me, yeah.
14:04So, um, that's hopefully I can get this one away.
14:08It can be a way.
14:09All right, we'll let you concentrate on it.
14:11Call me first.
14:11Oh, go, you good thing.
14:29Go, go, go.
14:31He's thinking he's delivered it.
14:34Oh, we've got to go back outside.
14:35Cam, you did it, mate.
14:36You did it.
14:43Two, good steal.
14:48I think you helped him out there, Heels.
14:50Is he not distracting for it?
14:52Is it?
14:53Well, he's at the non-striker's end.
14:54He'll have no clue at the moment.
14:56He's right.
14:57Heels has told me about five things to do,
14:58and he couldn't bat himself.
15:01Well, you only thought one thing.
15:02Cut shot.
15:04That's it.
15:06It's ought to be caught.
15:09It is caught.
15:11Neil Broome, very safe pair of hands.
15:14David Hussey going for his favourite stroke,
15:16the one of the mid-off for extra cover,
15:18and Vittori, the winner, once more.
15:21He is a master of his art, is Daniel Vittori.
15:24And David Hussey had a bit of everything.
15:26He had to get the innings back on track
15:27and then start to accelerate.
15:29Five for 128.
15:33Oh, dear me.
15:34That's a very difficult catch.
15:36Too difficult for anybody, I think.
15:38A couple of Kiwis running backwards.
15:40Tim Southie and one other.
15:43A little broom, I reckon.
15:46Yeah, I did it go.
15:47Nearly went for six down a third man.
15:49Oh, I think they've run five.
15:51It went that high.
15:53There was no way that was going to be taken.
15:59This is how big a hitter he is.
16:01Even his mishits are carrying much further
16:03than even the fielders think.
16:05And then it turned into Cirque du Soleil.
16:07Down the...
16:08Neil Broome is catapulting down there.
16:12Oh, that's big.
16:14That is big.
16:15Is it big enough?
16:16No, it isn't.
16:17No, it's not big enough.
16:18It's a terrific catch.
16:21Daniel Vittori is having another one of those nights.
16:27Really calm under pressure was Vittori.
16:32White has to go.
16:33Outstanding entertainment into the stratosphere,
16:38but not out of the ground.
16:39Six for 1.35.
16:43There's an outside edge and land short of third man.
16:46He's on strike now.
16:49So he's got seven that he's in for.
16:51Eight balls to go when he came in.
16:54Hopes is five from five.
16:55And White launches this.
16:57This was looking as if it was over the Victor Trumper stand.
17:00And then drops out of the sky straight to Vittori, who settles.
17:04He's got a lot of noise behind him.
17:05Takes it.
17:06Not totally convincing, but he's pretty happy about catching it rather than dropping it.
17:13What about the control of Vittori?
17:16He really had plenty of time to think about that one.
17:19It was swirling and he caught it beautifully.
17:22Appreciation from all his fellow teammates.
17:26Another good Yorker there.
17:27O'Brien will finish his four overs.
17:31Two for 34, his figures.
17:32And Australia, six for 137.
17:35One over to go.
17:37But now we're into the final over.
17:39And that one's so high.
17:41Great work by McCollum.
17:42They're caught at the end.
17:43Is it going to be run out?
17:44It should be.
17:45And his comedy of errors are no ball as well,
17:49because the full toss was above the waist of the batsman,
17:53the facing batsman.
17:54But that doesn't matter.
17:55You can still be run out.
17:56And it's the man making his debut.
18:00Henriques is gone.
18:01But what about the right shoulder of McCollum?
18:03Under pressure, the adrenaline pumping last over of the 2020.
18:06He pulls off the save of the summer.
18:08It's a top edge from a high full toss.
18:11And McCollum creates a run out.
18:13Seven for 138.
18:15Peter Siddle also debuting in this international 2020.
18:20The first one for Australia.
18:21Pressure's on.
18:22Well, did Hopes call the run out?
18:28Created some confusion, that's for sure.
18:30I think Hopes thought it had gone past Brendan McCollum.
18:32But what a save.
18:33That's high.
18:34No ball.
18:34Look at that for a save.
18:36Quick underarm flick back.
18:38Lucky that Salve was on the ball.
18:40And Henriques run out for one.
18:45Henriques watched the ball, didn't he?
18:46Saw that it went straight to McCollum.
18:48He'd taken beautiful.
18:50Well, he stopped it and then got that flick away.
18:52Brilliance by the keeper.
18:54Well, saved four.
18:57And Southie now.
18:58And he's flying in.
18:59He's looking for variation.
19:00He'll slow them down.
19:01That's the quicker one at 132.7.
19:04It's so hard to come out and find the middle of the bat.
19:07That's the expectation.
19:09Especially when they're that high.
19:10So it's a no ball.
19:11The only way you can get out in a no ball is run out.
19:13And that's what they're about to see.
19:16Southie very aware.
19:18Picks up.
19:18Throws.
19:20And Australia on a dead ball.
19:23Lose a wicket.
19:30There's another full toss.
19:32And has it hit the gap?
19:33I think it has.
19:35The fieldsman will get there.
19:36It'll save a couple of runs.
19:38They'll just come back for two.
19:39142 now Australia.
19:41Is it going to be enough?
19:43I think they've got something on the board if everything goes right heels.
19:46If they can start to find their mark with the ball.
19:49For me of late, that's been their Achilles heel.
19:51They haven't been able to pepper that Yorker.
19:54Get the change up of pace right.
19:56And the Kiwis have latched on to some sluggish bowling.
19:59And at times, sluggish building.
20:05That's nicely squirted through the offside.
20:07Again, picking out the man in the deep.
20:09They'll come back on the throw.
20:11And win the race.
20:14It's definitely protectable.
20:151.44 on the board already.
20:18Two balls to go.
20:19So they have to bowl.
20:20They have to feel well.
20:20Create some specialty.
20:22But of course, if McCollum and Gupta will get away, nothing's protectable.
20:26So early wickets will be key.
20:27Should be two balls remaining in this Australian innings.
20:40There's a little bit of a length there.
20:42And as soon as you get the right length, you can get under them.
20:45And almost finding the gap as he would have liked.
20:49Topes still.
20:50It's two runs to the title.
20:52Handy runs at this stage.
20:54150 will be hard to chase down.
20:55As Mark Nicholas mentioned, maybe Brad hadn't overplayed the pass score of 160.
21:04150 takes some work, that is for sure.
21:08But Australia, they can't have their expensive patches like they have had in the one-day series.
21:12But it's fantastic.
21:14We've got a contest right to the end of this summer.
21:17Southie will finish it off.
21:19And another low-fool toss.
21:20This time, it'll be four.
21:22Superb finish for the Australians.
21:24And finally, James Hopes was able to get one into the gap.
21:2916 not out for him.
21:30Peter Siddles stranded at the other end on one.
21:33The 20 overs up.
21:35Seven for 150, the Aussies.
21:38The 2020 International tells us that the Black Caps need 151 to beat Australia tonight.
21:47What a star that is.
21:50Peter Siddles.
21:51What a gem of a delivery to Brendan McCullum.
21:53We're ready up in the commentary box.
21:55And they're waiting for us.
21:57Ian Healy, Adam Gilchrist and Michael Slater.
22:00Thanks, Nico.
22:00Yeah, terrific delivery from Peter Siddles.
22:03It was the leg cutter to start with.
22:05McCullum didn't know what was going on.
22:08Yeah, and as Mark Nicholas just said, what an extraordinary summer we have had.
22:1408-09 goes down as some of the most riveting cricket we've seen for a long time.
22:21And it all finishes this evening.
22:22Australia are off to South Africa tomorrow.
22:24I think they're on a 9.30 flight.
22:25So cricket continues for them.
22:29But there's 20 overs in the field.
22:33And it's there for the taking.
22:35Both of these batsmen will take it.
22:39If they're given the opportunity, we've seen Peter Siddles nip one away from Brendan McCullum,
22:43then deck one in.
22:44So there's plenty there while the ball's new.
22:47And Guptill and McCullum, their two biggest weapons batting when the ball's doing its most.
22:52So it's danger time for New Zealand.
22:54But Australia also know they need a breakthrough or this match could be gone as well.
23:06That runs away.
23:08That's trouble for Australia.
23:09That's it.
23:14Leg buys.
23:18But it's only before us to the total.
23:21In Cullum, I want to see the back of him early on because he's the average, I think, 24, 24 and a half in 2020 cricket.
23:29He's the second highest run scorer in 2020 internationals.
23:33But he's one of those guys that when he gets going, he's very hard to stop.
23:39Goes at a million miles an hour.
23:42Oh, big shout.
23:43It's got to be given.
23:43It is.
23:44That was Plum.
23:46Well, they would have been keen to see the end of this man, Martin Guptill.
23:50He picked up 64 off 34 balls in the 50-over version.
23:54Well, it was a 2020 reduced match.
23:55But tonight he's gone.
23:56He's gone for zero.
23:58Second ball, LBW to Siddle.
24:00Here he is.
24:11He's steaming in.
24:20Well, if anyone's going to extract anything from this week, it is this man here, Peter Siddle.
24:25He bustles in.
24:27Aggressive.
24:27Some leg buys early in the over, but he was right on target with his fourth delivery.
24:33He really bangs that ball into the turf.
24:38Sideways movement.
24:39He'll find it.
24:42And there's another.
24:45Wide one down the leg side.
24:46He's got something going on with his action.
24:48But once he's not getting right, he's losing down the leg side.
24:52The first ball was a leg cut.
24:53I'm not sure he meant it.
24:55It's just the way the ball is sort of releasing out of the hand.
24:59Looks like he's pushing really hard for pace.
25:02It seems great, but line terrible.
25:06Maybe peg it back a little bit in the quest for greater control.
25:10But he is busting for a wicket.
25:13Another one.
25:18That's a beautiful shot.
25:20McCullum so strong through there.
25:21And he'll get the boundary for it.
25:24It's a big over.
25:25They might have lost a wicket, but it's 11 runs from it.
25:28That one's straight in the air.
25:32Leading edge, leading edge.
25:33Who wants it?
25:33Who wants it?
25:35Haddon, Haddon.
25:36The skipper says, it's mine.
25:38That's why it's it.
25:41Confusion there for a moment.
25:43But the man with the gloves will always win, Aguilent.
25:46Always, always big gloves.
25:48Confusion.
25:49Siddle thought he was going to take a hang-up.
25:50AFL style.
25:53Fantastic pressure.
25:54Good build-up.
25:55Fulton out for one.
25:55It's New Zealand two for 12.
25:58To that length he obtained the wicket with
26:02was the length that Martin Guptill was finding easy in Brisbane.
26:06So the adjustments you have to make between wickets.
26:09Guptill was putting this away to the leg side boundary.
26:12But tonight it might be more difficult to play across the line,
26:14especially if you're going to play with a straight bat,
26:17a vertical bat, rather than the pull shot or the flip hook.
26:22Just not quite coming on like at the Gabba Hills.
26:25Just holding up in the wicket.
26:26And it then in turn makes you through the shot.
26:30So you're hitting the ball a bit earlier than what you wanted
26:31off the leading edge straight up in the air.
26:34There's another one just straining down the leg side.
26:40So again, we see Sparley very straight at times,
26:42but if he loses it, it's going leg stump.
26:52Certainly nothing wrong with the pace of Siddle.
26:54This will be the last delivery of the over.
26:56Two for ten.
26:59It's an important partnership, this one.
27:01Cullen needs someone to be a little secure
27:04and stay out there for the next five overs or so.
27:07It's Broome that's got that responsibility now.
27:09Oh, what a delivery.
27:17What a delivery from Siddle.
27:19Two for 15, Australia.
27:20Good fielding.
27:28Only the singles.
27:29Singles will still build the pressure and help Australia out.
27:33Different tactics from Brad Haddon,
27:35the Australian captain of the day.
27:36He's bowling his bowlers in longer spells.
27:40Siddle into his third over.
27:41He's only got four to play with,
27:44so Dan Vittori was chopping and changing.
27:47One over spells.
27:49It's like Haddon just wants to keep building this pressure,
27:51pushing this run rate up.
27:52It's nearly eight and a half and over required.
27:55Strike early, Brad Haddon feels.
27:58Two slicks in place.
28:00And this will run fine to third.
28:01Man will be four.
28:03Not where he wanted it to go.
28:04Broome was really trying to work that to the onside.
28:07Doesn't matter in this form, they'll take him.
28:15There's only three men to where Broome is trying to hit this,
28:18so the shot's valid.
28:19He's walked across his stumps,
28:21and he's trying to find the gaps,
28:22but he finds another one.
28:24Unsuspecting gap at third man.
28:26Over second slip, which has just been put in there.
28:34It's bitter from Broome.
28:37It's his feet going in it.
28:41Oh, there's a solid base there.
28:43Well, he's got to go.
28:44He's got to go,
28:45and I hope they go from the other end of McCollum.
28:47They've got to get some pressure off McCollum,
28:49let him get into his innings,
28:51because he can explode and hit 80 off 11 overs himself.
28:55So they've got to get him into a good frame of mind
28:57and not get bogged down at the other end.
29:01Yeah, can't fall too far behind this run rate.
29:048.32 required.
29:06There's been a bit of rain around.
29:08Difficult for the bowlers to stand up,
29:10but let's all remember,
29:11it was all even after the one days.
29:14It all comes down to this 2020.
29:16The unofficial title decider.
29:19Bragging rights.
29:20Some good pace here from Siddle.
29:28You can just see by the way the batsmen are jumping.
29:30I might be slowing up a little bit off the pitch,
29:32but he's got them jumping.
29:33You talk of pressure with McCollum.
29:36He probably feels it every time he bats for the black cap seals,
29:39because he knows that at the top of the order,
29:41there's so much relying on him,
29:42and he is the real aggressor.
29:46So he's probably used to that pressure,
29:47but still,
29:48the fact that they've got off to a fairly sluggish start,
29:51it does amp up on that individual.
29:52That's a good pull shot.
29:59That'll be four all the way.
30:03Broome looking in pretty good nick this evening.
30:05That is an excellent shot.
30:10We've seen them jumping.
30:11We've talked about the batsman jumping at the pace of Siddle.
30:15This time, he stands and delivers.
30:17There's only three men we've talked about,
30:18so there's heaps of space there.
30:20He uses that to perfection.
30:23And every one of these sees less pressure on Brendan McCollum,
30:26their legend.
30:35Inside edge, I'd say,
30:37and running down past leg stump.
30:39So muffled appeal.
30:40Five overs completed.
30:41Two for 27.
30:42Brendan McCollum on strike.
30:44We're still waiting for him to tee off
30:45in the way that his reputation suggests he will.
30:51He is the match winner.
30:56The best we've seen of Brendan McCollum
30:58is after a slowish sort of start.
30:59Again, he's done that tonight.
31:01He's hit one boundary in his nine.
31:03He's faced 13 deliveries.
31:04He looks to me like the sort of player
31:07who doesn't necessarily go right from the first ball,
31:09but when he gets his eye in,
31:10he is dangerous and can hit the boundaries.
31:13Just like that.
31:15Oh, six.
31:16That cannot be true.
31:18Is that a six?
31:19He has hit that.
31:20Dead flat and barely 15 feet in the air.
31:25Yeah, that's delivered out of the barrel of a rifle.
31:27Could not have hit this cricket ball any cleaner.
31:31And that's over extra cover,
31:32and that is six.
31:33Oh, I reckon it is.
31:37Maybe they'll have to slow it up
31:38and have a look and see if it just touched the ground.
31:42Extraordinary no.
31:43I don't reckon it is.
31:44I reckon it's four.
31:45Well, the six has been signaled,
31:48so that replay may change their mind.
31:51We may just have to go back in time here
31:53because we do see with that second replay,
31:57the ball pitches a fraction before that boundary marker.
32:00There.
32:04Still an incredible stroke.
32:09It's an outfield catch, Nico.
32:10You're not happy going.
32:11So, I think you're right.
32:13I think that's four,
32:13but I'm not sure they can do anything about it now.
32:15Oh, that's four more.
32:20Ferocious thrash from Neil Broome.
32:25I'm not going to tell this to Ben Hilfenhouse,
32:27but they all count tonight.
32:28Brad Haddon gave it everything, didn't he?
32:34He gave that everything behind.
32:36Just watch the keeper go here.
32:38Good, healthy edge.
32:40There goes Haddon.
32:41Oh, just can't get there.
32:43Four.
32:46Truly is not how, but how many.
32:50Great athleticism from Haddon.
32:52And that's a good little push
32:56of some of the front foot cut stroke
32:58and earns him four.
33:01Would you believe that?
33:02Didn't look as if Neil Broome had got anything of it.
33:05This is a very good over now for the Black Cavs
33:08right back in the hunt.
33:10It just shows it doesn't take much
33:11to get you back into the hunt.
33:13Some quiet overs and some real pressure
33:15exerted by the Australian team
33:17and suddenly one over of freedom.
33:20A six and two fours
33:21and now they're right back
33:22probably on top.
33:26Go fetch that.
33:30Neil Broome has played one out
33:32of Martin Guptill's book.
33:34Guptill was brilliant the other night.
33:35Broome is matching him here
33:36at the Sydney Creek Ground.
33:42Terrific shot there.
33:43Just gave himself some room.
33:45Moved to the leg side.
33:46Turned it into a half folly.
33:49Race to the boundary.
33:51So you're out there in a 2020 game
33:57with Steve Waugh.
34:01Let me guess.
34:02You'll be having a slip-in.
34:04There'll be one there for 20 overs.
34:06Namely me.
34:07There's going to be a couple of cricketers.
34:13Nathan Bracken there is going to play.
34:15David Warner, I believe, is going to play.
34:18Shannon Noel, Anthony Mundine, Glenn McGrath.
34:22It's going to be Michael Slater.
34:23We've conned him into playing as well.
34:25Phil Waugh.
34:26No relation to Steve Waugh, but not a bad rugby player.
34:29They're all going to play.
34:30It'll be a lot of fun.
34:30All money raised.
34:31I think it's about $20 a seat for adults and $10 for kids.
34:35And all the money that's raised is going to that Victorian bushfire appeal,
34:38which has been ongoing pretty well since the Adelaide one-day game
34:46when cricket started to get behind the Victorian bushfire's appeal.
34:51Cricket Australia and the Commonwealth Bank kicked that off.
34:56And now New South Wales Cricket and the SCG Trust are going to add to that.
34:59It's already over about $20 million, that appeal alone.
35:03So those funds will just tack on to that.
35:06So that'll be a terrific, fun day.
35:07So all Sydneysiders out there, come along.
35:10Have some fun.
35:12Well, that's fourth.
35:13Not where Broome meant it.
35:15He's tried the late cut on a number of occasions.
35:16That was an underage.
35:18Now, all of a sudden, the pass score is threatened.
35:21There is talk of big rain nearby.
35:25Pass score 63.
35:28Presently, New Zealand, two for 61 with two balls of the over left.
35:32They have to be ahead of that pass score, then they win the game
35:35because you only need five overs of the innings to have been completed.
35:39Well, we're in the ninth.
35:40Therefore, we have a result in this match, come what may.
35:42We can't have the situation we had the other night at the Gabba.
35:46New Zealand need a couple to get to that pass score.
35:49And that's a great stop.
35:51How big is that stop?
35:53Not that it's going to rain right now.
35:55Adam Boges, brilliant.
35:57The other thing that will change the pass score is if Australia can pick up another wicket.
36:01Good piece of fielding like that puts the pressure back on the batting side.
36:04The pass score moves to 71 at the end of this over.
36:12There's a couple of them.
36:13Very good placement.
36:14Touching that stroke.
36:15Nice soft hands.
36:17Picking the area and knowing there's two in it, however quick David Warner may be.
36:20And he is quick.
36:21Tough job for Dave Warner.
36:27He's out at deep mid-wicket.
36:28Probably the longest boundary on the ground at the moment.
36:32Wait on, wait on.
36:36A little sweep there from McCullum.
36:38Yeah, David Warner is in front of the member stand.
36:41Not easy to get the distance right.
36:43How far you need to be in off that boundary.
36:45For the catch, save the two.
36:48But also save a boundary.
36:49Not easy to get that right.
36:51His ears are ringing too.
36:53The skipper just gave him a sting because the throw landed right at his feet.
36:57Which for a wicket-cooper is a nightmare.
37:06Another good stop.
37:07One or two sprawling saves by the Australians are serving them well here.
37:10Brad Hattin's got a lot of energy.
37:13Plenty of buzz out in the middle.
37:15Defending 150 made by the Australians.
37:18Had him chose to bat first tonight.
37:24Nice bit of spin.
37:27And the ball not really coming on the bat.
37:30So you've just got to wait your moment if you're trying to really attack the spin bowler.
37:45That's a very good start by Hussey.
37:52He's gone for just five.
37:53It's two for 66.
37:54Give it a white.
38:01That's most unusual.
38:04David Hussey so good so often.
38:06Usually in and around the ring in backward point area.
38:10But boundary riding down in that all-important long-on position.
38:14He's there because he is so good.
38:16But just took his eye off the ball there.
38:18A little fumble.
38:19Allowed McCollum to come back for the second.
38:21No, it's good.
38:25It's very good.
38:27No doubt that McCollum has deliberately spent a bit of time over this.
38:32Trying to really get a rhythm.
38:34Trying to feel the bat on the ball.
38:37And he's got it in him to win the game.
38:42Not the worst ball you're ever going to bowl there.
38:44Just a fraction of width.
38:46And hopes that McCollum good enough to squirt it powerfully.
38:51Away to the fence.
38:58And similar width disappears over the leg side.
39:02So now McCollum's in.
39:02He's buzzing as well as his atmosphere around the SCG.
39:0878 from 57.
39:09Close to the pass score.
39:12It's tied up once again.
39:18We've got Nathan Bracken miked up.
39:21Down in the outfield.
39:25Has to be out, doesn't it?
39:26It's not easy, this.
39:29Oh, nice.
39:30Callum Ferguson.
39:32What a cool head on the young shoulders.
39:33Awful lot of people with their hearts and their mouths for him now.
39:39Neil Broome is the man that has to go.
39:43He went hard.
39:44Neil Broome.
39:4536 from 26 his innings.
39:47Fantastic stuff.
39:48But, jeez, intention was carried through that shot.
39:52There is a big breeze here that would have swirled everywhere.
39:55Ferguson made it look easy.
39:56And still McCollum.
40:00Goal, dear.
40:02Well, McCollum didn't find the gap, but he did find the boundary.
40:07Imperative that he did.
40:09Adam Boges, the fielder.
40:11Well, he's got spin on the first delivery.
40:13Out of the hand.
40:15Then McCollum swaps it around.
40:17He gets some top spin on that.
40:19Oh, and there's no chance in the slippery outfield of the SCG for Boges.
40:25Great stroke play.
40:27Unfortunate fielding.
40:31Now a reverse sweep this time from Elliott.
40:34Boges will do the fielding.
40:36And he'll get there.
40:38And he'll pick up three.
40:41As much as anything, that's the bats they use these days, Slats.
40:44That reverse sweep, and he didn't get much on.
40:46It overthrows now.
40:48And it turns it into a four.
40:51But you did with a real sort of chunk, wasn't it?
40:55There was nothing clean about the stroke, but it almost got to the fence.
40:58Yeah, amazing.
40:58Look, the orthodox stuff's not working really at the moment.
41:01So he goes a little bit unorthodox.
41:04Gets it away.
41:06Brilliant fielding on the rope, but then they give away four.
41:11Now out to David Warner.
41:13He'll clean up.
41:15Just a single.
41:16And the run rate's up to 10.7 runs per over.
41:19All the throws now are going to be put under pressure.
41:21Australia have to be good now.
41:23All the fieldsmen in the deep have got to hunt down the twos.
41:27Dive and throw themselves around.
41:29Stop those boundaries.
41:304.3 overs left.
41:32Glove.
41:35Short of Ogis.
41:37Just a single.
41:38McCallum thought the reverse sweep was on.
41:40I saw my mate do it.
41:42I'm going as well.
41:43But we know at this stage of a 20-20, one over can change everything.
41:47If New Zealand can get one over of 15 to 17 off it, not easy to do, but it'll swing it back in their favour.
41:55Good bowling from Dave Hussey.
41:58Fired that one in.
42:00We saw Elliot coming down the pitch at him.
42:03So Dave Hussey's got one delivery left in his four overs.
42:06None for 22 so far.
42:09It's been a superb spell.
42:10Fired and they should get two hit.
42:17Bracken will do the fielding.
42:18There's two more.
42:20That's a good spell though from Hussey.
42:2124 from his four.
42:233 for 106.
42:24James Hopes.
42:25Lovely.
42:29Lovely.
42:30That's what they needed.
42:31A boundary off the first ball.
42:33Now can they build on that.
42:35Gee, that's a talented cricket shot.
42:37You play on the fact that the ball's going to be full at this stage of the game.
42:40You know fine legs up.
42:42And this is just massaged around, mind you.
42:45It was fuller than Hopes really wanted it to be.
42:48But still, that takes a lot of skill and some courage as well with the ball coming straight at you.
42:53And there'll be memories for Hopes of the Gabba the other evening where he got a touch up in his final over.
42:58It was just before the rain intervened.
42:59But Hopes went the journey the other night.
43:05And he'd just be nervous.
43:06He wants to do a job here for his skipper.
43:08Brad Haddon it is with the opportunity tonight.
43:11And a win would be nice.
43:13Might be the only chance he gets to Captain Australia.
43:16One game, one win.
43:18That looks good in the stats.
43:20Oh, we're particularly in the home ground too.
43:22He would absolutely love to walk off the ground as a winner.
43:26I'm sure all players would say that.
43:28But particularly in your first game as captain.
43:30He'd be great to do it.
43:36Oh, that's beautifully hit.
43:39Straight back over the baller's head.
43:41And into the side screen.
43:43This could be the over.
43:45This could be it.
43:46And Australia would be nervous.
43:47McCullum, he's a danger man.
43:48He hasn't had much of the strike.
43:51But when he goes, look out.
43:53We talked about the bats in modern cricket.
43:55This is a club in the hands of McCullum.
43:57And that is monstrous.
43:59Straight down the ground.
44:00Right over the umpire's hat.
44:02Six runs.
44:03He's got a fine.
44:07That'll be four more.
44:08And that'll be 50 for McCullum.
44:10He's on the move.
44:13He now has four fours, two sixes.
44:15Another half century to his name.
44:18It can change so quickly.
44:212020 cricket.
44:22The required run rate.
44:23Yes, it does become stressful when it gets over 10.
44:27But it's not so surprising when you see a team get back into the game through one over.
44:34This over is huge.
44:35How do you play that shot?
44:36They've reefed it down, slats, from 11 and a half required to nine.
44:40One over.
44:42Twice again.
44:44Successful again.
44:45Almost six.
44:47One bounce over the rope.
44:49We've now got 19 from this over.
44:52We've got a ball to go.
44:54Wow, this is fantastic batting.
44:56It really is.
44:57You've got, you're picking the bowler, you're picking the field, and you're exploiting it.
45:02And that is not a bad delivery.
45:04That's taken from outside off stump and one bounce for four.
45:11He's got it fine.
45:13Probably only a single though.
45:15Slips.
45:16Yep.
45:17Just the five from that over.
45:19Good one for Australia.
45:20Three for one, three, one.
45:22It's hit that well.
45:25It's not enough.
45:26Not quite enough.
45:28Hello, is it?
45:29What's he done?
45:30Yes!
45:32He's got it!
45:33That's outstanding.
45:38Now the young players are going to confer that.
45:40I'm not sure if this is out yet.
45:41They're not sure whether it's out.
45:44He's caught it, tossed it up, ran out, and then run back in.
45:48Now let's have a look here.
45:49He's caught it.
45:50He's not on the rope.
45:51He's going to go out.
45:52He tosses it up.
45:54Then goes out.
45:55Does he get back in?
45:56He trips there.
45:57He gets in.
45:58I reckon that's out.
45:59That's brilliant.
45:59Adam Bogus.
46:01The second last over of the summer.
46:03Takes a ripper.
46:04Mate, that's not brilliant.
46:05That's extraordinary.
46:06He's a genius.
46:07Never seen anything like that in my life.
46:10Paul Reifel, just a smile from your pistol.
46:12You haven't seen anything like this either.
46:14He's gone here.
46:15That's six.
46:16And he realises it.
46:18And suddenly, right, I've got to throw it in the air,
46:20but I can't throw it too far away.
46:23Oh, look.
46:24He could have thrown a somersault in there too.
46:28That is brilliant.
46:29Bogus.
46:31We were going to see it at some stage.
46:34There it is.
46:34That is unbelievable.
46:38That's well bowled.
46:40It'll just be a single now to Warner.
46:41We saw the deep breath for Hilford House.
46:44Do you think he wasn't relieved?
46:46He could have been hit for six, that first cherry.
46:49And that, you have to say,
46:51Black Caps were going to have a huge advantage.
46:55But he just pulled out something absolutely brilliant.
47:01The fact that he stood on the boundary rope
47:03made it even better, didn't it?
47:04Then he tripped a bit and he had to dive.
47:07Yeah, you should tip your cap too.
47:09The crowd loved it.
47:10There were people behind there.
47:11You could see they were looking the whole time.
47:13They weren't sure what was going on,
47:14whether that was four, six, out or what.
47:17Brilliant.
47:23So James Franklin faced his first ball.
47:25He's got to get on with it straight away.
47:28It's a short ball.
47:30It's a brave delivery.
47:31Oh, called wide.
47:32Must have been above the head height.
47:36It's a big call.
47:38That's an extra run.
47:39And Hilford House has got to re-bowl that delivery.
47:42I think it's probably a good call.
47:44The square leg umpire was happy that it had gone over head height,
47:46and it had.
47:47So that is a wide.
47:49You saw one in the Australian innings,
47:50and that's exactly the same.
47:56He did this the other night too.
47:57He doesn't win the short one at this stage of the game.
48:02Better option there, though.
48:03He hasn't just missed the stumps with that throw.
48:12He's missed the pitch.
48:13That's how wide that was.
48:20It's frantic out there, everyone.
48:23He's on their toes.
48:25He's thrown a wide.
48:27He nearly threw a four then.
48:33It's all right from an Australian point of view.
48:39We'll take singles at this stage.
48:41The equation is now at 16 to win.
48:44Eight balls remaining.
48:45So that's 14.
48:47Australia need to keep New Zealand to 14 to win the match.
48:53It's been an enormous performance
48:55the last eight, nine, ten balls from Australia.
48:59Bracken's over was fantastic.
49:00This is a good over so far.
49:03It's sliced away.
49:04It might be a boundary.
49:05They should get two, though.
49:07Come back.
49:09It's 14 to win.
49:12And the pressure's going to fall right on Nathan Bracken's last over.
49:15They had 20 to get from the best part of three overs
49:20with seven wickets in hand, New Zealand.
49:21You should win from there.
49:23What it took was an outstanding performance
49:25from someone wearing the yellow and grey.
49:27It was the amazing catch of Ogis and the bowling of Bracken
49:32and now Hilfenhaus.
49:34What a dot ball to finish.
49:36What an over from Hilfenhaus.
49:40Just what Australia needed.
49:41So 14 to win off the last over.
49:43It's going to be bowled by Nathan Bracken.
49:45Oh, good slow ball.
49:49They're running.
49:50That'll be out.
49:51Brad Haddon hits.
49:52And he's got James Franklin.
49:54Good start from Bracken.
49:56Slower ball.
49:58Elliot was looking to hit the boundary.
50:00Couldn't get back on ball.
50:01Haddon does the rest by hitting the stumps.
50:03You reckon this doesn't mean much to the skipper?
50:06He's got the ball into the stumps.
50:08That's the end of Franklin.
50:10And then he's jumped over them nearly.
50:13It's just a sign of how much this means
50:16to the Australian captain.
50:18He mightn't get too many goes at being Australian captain.
50:21And there we are.
50:25He's out of control, Brad Haddon.
50:29Did you see that one?
50:30It was the slow ball that left arm orthodox.
50:33It gripped, bounced.
50:35It's a major purchase.
50:37And then Haddon cleaned it up beautifully.
50:40I reckon we're going to see a few more deliveries like that.
50:43Look at this turn.
50:44And bounce, as you said.
50:45That's almost impossible to hit that.
50:48And picked by the skipper too, the keeper.
50:50And he came charging forward to take it on the full.
50:52That's a wonderful piece of cricket from Brad Haddon.
50:57That's a great start from Nathan Bracken.
50:59No runs.
51:00Got a wicket.
51:01Big slow ball.
51:02We're going to see a few more of those, Nathan,
51:04in the next five.
51:05If they all turn and bounce like that, definitely.
51:07I think we'll see another five of them.
51:09I was good to get rid of the left-hander.
51:10You might be the new Daniel Vittori, mate.
51:12I was good to get rid of the left-hander.
51:13So obviously that really restricted probably what I could use to attack with.
51:17So it's been a handy little run out there.
51:21Well, Nathan McCullum is the new man.
51:23Does anybody know where he hits them?
51:24Or what?
51:25You guys got anything up there for me?
51:26I reckon bowling the same again.
51:28Bowling that big turner.
51:30There's no way he can hit that.
51:32Good luck, then.
51:33I'm not sure that taking bowling advice from Mark Taylor
51:46is what I'd be doing necessarily, Bracken.
51:49If he's listening to me, he's in real trouble.
51:53That's why I'm sitting up here.
51:54I can always listen.
51:55I don't have to bat any attention, though.
51:59Exactly the same as the bowlers I used to work with when I played.
52:01Righto, 13 to win.
52:06Four balls.
52:07Obviously, they need boundaries now.
52:10Got the right man on strike, Elliot.
52:12Third man's up inside the circle.
52:16Big swing.
52:17That's close.
52:18Tough to give, though.
52:20Really tough to give.
52:21There's a long way back, but...
52:23With the amount that ball's turning and the angle as well,
52:26very tough to give that.
52:28Gee's bowling well.
52:29Nathan Bracken.
52:30What a handy bowler to have at the death.
52:33The angle going to miss off stuff.
52:35So 12 from three here.
52:37You'd think that the work has been done here.
52:39Nathan Bracken securing victory for the Australians.
52:45So 12 from three.
52:46Two sixes could do it.
52:49Did you leap those words if you hit this over the fence, won't you, Mick?
52:52Surely not.
52:52Oh, a slower ball.
53:03And Brad Allen doesn't fall to the stumps.
53:06They've defended brilliantly, this Australian team.
53:08They looked in all sorts of trouble with the big 17th over going for 20.
53:13Since then, they have got it exactly right with some terrific bowling,
53:18some very good captaincy, and some wonderful outfielder.
53:21Three point four overs, one maiden, no wicket for six.
53:29That is extraordinary.
53:30It's extraordinary.
53:33You're meant to get carted as a bowler in this form of the game.
53:36Well, this needs to hit the boundary at least.
53:41Here we go.
53:44It's hit it well enough.
53:45That'll be a four.
53:49That's a four.
53:51Unfortunately, still not enough for the Kiwis who need...
53:55Unfortunately, they still need eight more to win from the last ball.
54:00So, provided it's not a no ball or a wide, Australia will win the match.
54:03Nathan Bracken, quite rightfully, will be the player of the match.
54:06But there's a spell of bowling that Michael Slater just talked about.
54:09It's into his...
54:10Well, he's nearly finished his fourth over.
54:11One maiden, none for ten.
54:14No wickets, but only ten runs and four overs in a 20-20 match is outstanding.
54:21It's up in the air.
54:22It's going to go.
54:23It's all the way.
54:26And they're going to lose by a run.
54:28In the end, they're going to end up a run short
54:31with a four and a six to finish.
54:33Yes, boys!
54:34They finish a run short.
54:36Five for 1.49.
54:37Can you believe that?
54:38Well, is that a snapshot of the summer we've had or what?
54:41It's quite extraordinary.
54:42We have not had a heart...
54:45A game where your heart's been able to relax at any stage.
54:48That means Australia wins by one run.
54:51Ten from the last two balls.
54:54Hats off to this New Zealand team who have played amazing cricket.
54:57But Brad Haddon's a happy man and his Australian team's won by the barest margin.
55:02Yeah, well done to the Australians and well done to the Blackcaps.
55:05They went right down to the wire, competing to the very end,
55:08as we've seen from South Africa as well this summer.
55:12It's been incredible.
