00:20so here we are i need to let it go episode another episode bottoms up where we had to hide our kid
00:35upstairs because she makes too much noise um i can't find the cord to this
00:42janky sort of tripod we have to light it up correctly so we're you we're candle lighting
00:50it up with our candles our martini guys nice and i almost lit my hair on fire the name of this drink
00:56you discovered yes lbf it's you know we should have done this like last week for halloween no no no it's
01:04better this because it's the death of light right now it's dark light because it's so dark out it's
01:13it's november it's like it's 5 30 and it just might as well be midnight and i feel a little depressed
01:22and scared and so you want to go hide under your weighted blanket yes i mean i bought a weighted
01:27blanket so um because of those dark terrible feelings we're going to do a drink called the
01:34obituary which is fun because i started my career in journalism writing writing obits so and obituaries
01:43really are the best things you'll read in a paper in fact i saved quite a bit of them on my phone
01:48because i'm impressed by them so you know not a death notice that's a totally different thing a
01:53death notice is just the bare bones but a good obit really good in fact one time when i was at the
02:00herald when i was writing obituaries i wrote my own obituary oh my god i was like 22. have i ever
02:07seen this it's someplace i'll have to find it if i find it in time i will recite it for this video
02:14like in addition well if you go before me it'll make things easier it's no it was before i met you
02:19so oh yeah i'll add a few things in okay thanks yeah just husband kid that's all you need
02:25that in 30 years um okay so let's start let's begin let us begin the end let's begin the obituary
02:34you know what's uh you know what's interesting about the obituary so this is a uh so we're going
02:40to use the green fairy you know what the green fairy is yes absinthe absinthe was very popular
02:48especially uh back in the day with the uh wait and if you drink too much of this you'll be absinthe
02:53for more tomorrow oh i've been hanging around bob too much bob would be proud he would that was
03:03that was pretty good bob would be proud okay so the green fairy the green fairy absinthe so
03:10it was banned for a long time because it had a hallucinogenic effect yeah but now everybody
03:15people use it like a drug but now everyone's on drugs so it's back on the shelf it was popular with the
03:22americans in paris but you know the lost generation hemingway all those books in fact hemingway made
03:28made a a drink up you have some drink called definitely afternoon same name as one of his
03:33because when you drink it you feel like dying in the afternoon which is kind of like death in the
03:36afternoon obituary i know you love him corpse survivor another popular classic uh hangover remedy uh
03:44there's a theme back in the day absent obituary and you know what i dug out here there so there's a there's
03:52like a really cool way to prepare absinthe it's called the absinthe drink if you would just want
03:56to drink absinthe absinthe by the way it's just a it's a liquor i think it was made in switzerland
04:00can i see it yeah it tastes it smells like black licorice right it's like it's black licorice it's not
04:05black licorice but it's kind of has that smell and taste of black licorice i think it's it's made from
04:12anise yeah anyway but it has that black licorice okay so and there's a cool way to to drink this
04:21they actually make a absinthe spoon maybe some of you've seen this and you you so you put like two
04:26ounces of absinthe in the glass so you put your spoon on top and then you get a sugar cube you place
04:33the sugar cube on the spoon and then you slowly it's you have to have patience for this you slowly drip very
04:40cold water on the over the top of that uh sugar cube until the sugar cube completely dissolves
04:47the water and the sugar down into the glass into the absinthe and then it becomes cloudy
04:52and then once that's done then you can start drinking and sip it it's actually pretty good
04:56but that's not what we're doing here today that's not what we're doing here today at all
05:00we're not so you know what's not do you remember the last what we make the last time we did this
05:05forget you know the name of the wet martini yes the wet martini and you know you know what's
05:12very interesting about the obituary tell me it's a wet martini except we're adding a little bit of
05:19the green fairy so so this is so backing some genius bartender at some point was like i have an idea i'm
05:27just gonna take a martini add some absinthe and call it the obituary right that's what we're gonna do
05:34look at these things i got aren't they so cute i got them at um crate and barrel and their glass
05:40and their grain and dave was washing them i know i i'm always breaking things bam bam
05:48all right let's do this all right let's do it okay it's you're making a martini we're using gin
05:53i'm kind of out of any like interesting gin or different kind of gin like you can't go wrong with
05:59the bombay sapphire so i'm going to do just two ounces and again we're stirring this because
06:05there's no free no acidic you know lemon or lime nothing like that so we're just going to stir all
06:11this uh two ounces of gin now by the way i'd like to show you a couple of the books that we have
06:17oh on our bar um just they're fun things to get if you like the cocktail book over there yeah go ahead
06:24you go i'm just trying to fill some time uh so two ounces of gin and then um of course we're going
06:29to use uh the dry vermouth now the interesting about this recipe uh it's i say it's similar to
06:37the wet martini because it's it ends up being a two to one ratio but they do three quarter ounces
06:42of the driver move and a quarter ounce of absinthe with which to me absinthe is you know not for
06:48everybody um so what i have is one of these cool little sprayers what's in that absinthe oh well
06:57don't spray it everywhere you want a shot no it'll light on fire okay okay um so and what you can do
07:05is so i've chilled the glass here oh that smells nice and you uh and you you can spray the glass just
07:16let it sit in the glass right which is kind of cool and then excited about gadgets and then we'll
07:23go go gadget and that by the way that's a big really big glass yes i think our drink is going
07:29to look a little lost in there but that's it is but that's okay um uh bob bronson and his wife gave me
07:35these thank you another tip of the cap to the bob bronson um yeah also it's huge because they know
07:42that i like my drinks baby so we're gonna do that do it that way yeah we're gonna put in some ice
07:51ice we're gonna stir it lauren you you you remember how to stir yeah it's great oh god i get to do so
08:00yeah okay we gotta be able to see it oh look that's so good
08:07yeah well you know i mean watch some lauren all these years you're making drinks for me
08:12osmosis is a thing pay attention in your science class all right is that good nicely done well you
08:20know let's start some more okay make it nice and cold yeah yeah sure you know take the edge off of
08:26that sucker take the edge off of today oh by the way it's just so dark i can't even believe it i just
08:34want to cuddle up and like i don't i can't wait till i'm in more of this oh it's spray just sprayed it on
08:39myself okay we're gonna smell like a drug addict in um paris in 1888 let's go crazy with the absinthe
08:46so that's the key to this old drink the yeah by the way what was that movie that they with the
08:50absence was sateen oh uh moulin rouge moulin rouge the moulin rouge yeah they had a lot of absinthe in
08:58that yeah okay wow that smells some okay so nicely done thank you lbf yes sir and we got our absinthe
09:06in the glass we're doing a little differently and again we're just going to pour this uh beautiful
09:11silky ribbon of gin and you want to catch yourself don't catch them higher yeah right next to the
09:19open flame and oh i lost an ice cube isn't it you i always lose an ice cube so we got a nice lemon here
09:26we're going to do a nice lemon twist i'm going to move this so i don't actually light myself on
09:31aren't these cool though i got these all that over the drinks i got a little and then remember we like
09:36to uh squeeze the uh oils out over the drink i can't wait to have some of this lemon
09:44one of those days
09:48very nice also drink responsibly nice
09:52how about we express those yummy lemon oils
09:56and we'll make it into a nice twist for lbf because that's what she likes i love a twist
10:04i was going to get you olives today but the farm was closed oh rats rats indeed okay

10:15that's different i i can i say something because you know i think it needs more absinthe i don't
10:28think i don't think the spray is right so then maybe maybe you should just follow the dang recipe next
10:33time dave exactly so but other than that it's really delicious dump some abs in there and stir away
10:41all right next time we'll have better lighting and i just wanted to use this thing i know he loves

11:06so uh so uh two ounces of gin three quarter ounces of dry vermouth and a quarter ounce of absinthe
11:34you stir that put it in your cold glass yeah and if you like licorice yeah if you like if you like
11:41licorice yeah you've got yourself something have yourself a nice trip
11:48listen people doing mushrooms might as well do absinthe right i i watch real housewives
11:54and i'm gonna pick up that ice cube but i'm also gonna get a lemon lbf so you gotta cover me okay i'll
12:00dance i'll dance um okay so obituaries let's see uh what do i know about obituaries um let's see i i
12:09dated the funeral director's son when i was in high school so there's that i have a um that is
12:16interesting so death and darkness oh my god what what is happening i'm like you know i leave for two seconds
