00:00Suspected thief allegedly linked to 23 target heists was reportedly after one specific toy.
00:07Authorities identified the suspect as 28-year-old Winston Love,
00:11arrested Friday after allegedly shoplifting from a target and fleeing.
00:15The Watauga Police Department said Love is suspected of targeting 23 target stores across
00:20cities, including Dallas, Irving, Plano, Fort Worth, and Frisco, primarily stealing Lego
00:26merchandise valued at over $37,000. Officials said Love is allegedly tied to a larger organized
00:33retail theft ring spanning Texas and Oklahoma. Watauga Police Chief Jim Lewis told Fox 4.
00:39The crimes were incredibly brazen, noting that Love freely walked through stores targeting Lego
00:45products and left with about $1,200 in stolen merchandise. Officers later located him,
00:51and after a brief standoff, he surrendered without incident. Authorities found that Love had eight
00:57outstanding warrants, including multiple felony theft charges in Tarrant, Dallas, and Rockwall
01:02counties. Officials noted that organized theft rings like this are increasingly troubling for
01:08businesses, as stolen goods are often resold online through third-party platforms. Love now faces a
01:14state jail felony theft charge and is being held at the North Richland Hills Detention Center.
01:19Chief Lewis praised the collaboration between Watauga Police and regional partners, noting their swift
01:25actions led to the arrest of a serial offender and recovery of stolen property. He emphasized the
01:30department's commitment to protecting the community from retail thefts. Target has not yet issued a public
01:36statement about the incidents or future prevention plans.
