00:00Catholic priest Flavie Villanueva is one of three recipients of the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Awards,
00:06considered Asia's premier prize and highest honor. In his Ramon Magsaysay lecture on Thursday,
00:11November 6, he calls the Duterte presidency the bloodiest years in Philippine history.
00:16The streets where once we once walked to serve food and offer bats have been turned into streets
00:26of bloodbaths. The very people we had embraced began to disappear and silence would have been
00:37complicity and the Catholic Church was not exempted. Villanueva also echoes calls for the creation of a
00:45drug war truth commission. Who were the ones who killed? Who participated in the killing? Who are
00:52the people with blood in their hands? He also shares he is cooperating with investigators of
00:58the International Criminal Court as he continues his advocacy to help drug war victims find justice.
01:04The priesthood for me is not a pedestal. It is a place of kneeling beside others in need and wounded.
01:15Together with forensic doctor Raquel Fortun, Villanueva led the exhumation of victims of
01:19extrajudicial killings who sustained bullet wounds not declared in their death certificates.
01:24The priest continues to spearhead Project Paghilom, which took in victims of the drug war
01:29and offered them counseling, legal assistance, and livelihood and education.
