00:08Photos show Jolie in a flak jacket in a basement meeting children in a windowless room.
00:13In a statement released by the Legacy of War Foundation Thursday, November 6, Jolie says,
00:18quote, at a time when governments around the world are turning their backs on the protection
00:22of civilians, their strength, and their support for each other is humbling.
00:26The group says she toured medical and educational facilities relocated underground to escape
00:30constant Russian attacks.
00:32Kherson was occupied by Russian forces from March 2022 until they withdrew eight months
00:37later across the Dnepro River.
00:39It used to be home to nearly 300,000 people and is the biggest city within range of Russia's
00:44frontline weapons.
00:46A UN inquiry in October found Russia has been chasing down civilians who live near the frontline
00:51with drones, forcing thousands of them to flee.
00:54Russia denies intentionally targeting civilians.
