00:00Let them hear you!
00:02Hey!
00:03Hey!
00:04Hey!
00:05Hey!
00:06Hey!
00:07Hey!
00:08Man, you all are something else, man.
00:11Something else.
00:12Summit.
00:13Out here in Pleasant Hill.
00:15Yeah.
00:16Yeah.
00:17Jack's Restaurant and Bar, that's for you.
00:19That's for you.
00:20It's early.
00:21We're liking it early.
00:22Yep.
00:23Jack's Restaurant and Bar out here in Pleasant Hill has been an unbelievable host.
00:26This is an unbelievable crowd.
00:27You guys are awesome.
00:28You guys are awesome.
00:29You guys are awesome.
00:30Talking out Warriors and not done yet.
00:32A reminder about this weekend and the Niner game.
00:35Niners are at home in our kickoff show on Sunday with our Hall of Fame nominee, Lo Neal and Evan Giddings.
00:42We'll start at 11 a.m. live from Laughing Monk in Sunnyvale.
00:46The early games are going to be on.
00:48They've got great food, great drinks.
00:50There are games to play in the parking lot.
00:52If you're going to the game, there's a free shuttle that'll bring you there and back.
00:56I did say free, which means spots will go fast.
00:59So reserve your spot now at 957thegame.com.
01:05All right.
01:06We got a few things still to talk about, but I don't want to move past what we were just talking about before we get a chance to hear what our morning show thinks about it and the Joe's.
01:18We're talking about the Steph Curry appreciation chatter with regard to the idea of what he has meant to you as a fan, what he has meant to the fan base, the Bay Area as a whole.
01:31Dibs with an effective answer, I would say.
01:34The six of us are not sitting here and you guys are all not sitting here and this station probably doesn't exist without Steph Curry.
01:41But what would you guys say about Mr. Wardell?
01:45He is the most beloved athlete in the history of Bay Area sports.
01:49He is more beloved than Joe Montana, Steve Young, Jerry Rice.
01:55Rice is a close one, not here, and I love Jerry.
01:57He joins our station a lot.
01:58But Steph united the Bay in a way that no one else really did.
02:02It's the only basketball team here.
02:04East Bay, South Bay, North Bay, all comes together because of Stephen Curry.
02:11What he has meant for the Bay Area at large cannot, you can't put it to words, Mark.
02:18Like we try to every day.
02:20The head coach, like we all try to talk about Steph in a way and it sounds redundant, but he really is Captain America.
02:27Like there's, I can't find anything wrong with this guy.
02:30And I don't want to find anything wrong about this guy.
02:33Oh, he turns the ball over too much, but then what does he do?
02:35It's the most ridiculous three-pointer you've ever seen your face.
02:38Even the opposing fan base has to be like, okay, it's special to watch.
02:44And I always look at it in a way that like supersedes the norm.
02:50So for me growing up, and for a lot of people my age, I'm 32, whenever you would crumple up a piece of paper
02:57and throw it in the trash can, what do you say?
02:59Kobe.
03:00Now the kids are saying what from all the way over there on the other side of the parking lot?
03:05Curry!
03:06Curry!
03:07Curry!
03:08That says it all right there.
03:10And they're doing it in more places than the Bay.
03:12That's what I notice is that what makes him so iconic is the way that this has bled into essentially everywhere.
03:21Yeah.
03:22What would you say?
03:23What do you want to say here?
03:24I mean, Steph Curry's the greatest Bay Area athlete to his point, and it's not even close.
03:29He surpassed Joe a long time ago.
03:30He surpassed Joe a long time ago for me.
03:31I grew up watching KICU Warrior games on Channel 636 when, this is like way back when, when Craig Puppet, they're knifing through the backcourt right now.
03:42And my dad had us in the backyard doing Rick Barry shots.
03:45Rick Barry was my dad's favorite player of all time.
03:48I grew up on Chris Mullen.
03:49I grew up on Chris Mullen.
03:50He was my hero.
03:51That's who it was in the backyard.
03:53That picture-perfect left-hand jumper.
03:55And Steph Curry has surpassed both those guys.
03:58He is to the three ball what Ricky Henderson is to stolen bases.
04:02What Barry Bonds is to the home run.
04:04He's the longevity of Jerry Rice.
04:07He's the heart and soul of the franchise and the community in the way Dwight Clark or Steve Young was.
04:13He embodies all my favorite athletes of all time.
04:16And I think the biggest thing for me, he's embraced the culture of the Bay Area.
04:20Like the fizz face after hitting a three, I'm from the Mac Dre era.
04:24So him embracing that meant something to my age group.
04:27And then now as I'm older and I see my son over there, I've been coaching for 20, 25 years.
04:32I think we talk a big game about like role models and kids and all this stuff.
04:37Steph Curry truly is the greatest role model for your children to look up to.
04:43It's the more and more I say it's how to treat people, how to treat your teammates, how to treat the game, how to give back to your community.
04:52There's the on the court guy.
04:54There's the off the court guy.
04:56He is the greatest icon I've ever seen without a doubt.
05:00And he's a rock star.
05:02And the part that I think is that, like you said, what's the thing for us?
05:05Obviously, what he's done for us winning the championship.
05:08When I was new to the morning slot, it was everything.
05:11I think the greatest playoff performance in Bay Area history is not Madison Bumgarner.
05:15As great as that was.
05:16I think it's game four in Boston.
05:19In Boston.
05:20I think it's a great playoff.
05:21I think it's a great playoff.
05:22I think it's a great playoff.
05:23I think it was on the heels of the FU Draymond game.
05:37And Draymond actually, he shut down.
05:39They got to him.
05:40They went up 2-1.
05:41And it looked like, oh my God, Boston, they've gotten to the heart and soul on his team.
05:46And then Steph, no, we're not going out like that.
05:48So to me, you're right.
05:50But it's against the backdrop of game three that made it even more special.
05:54It felt like a night where you were sort of resigned to the idea that you were ready for the Warriors are going to lose this series.
06:03I've been blessed to go to World Series.
06:05I've been blessed to go to NFC Champions games, a Super Bowl.
06:08I watched an entire fan base.
06:11I sat and paid to sit up in the Boston Garden by myself.
06:14You were there.
06:15And they said, he's better than Bird.
06:17This is what they were saying.
06:19They were jaw dropped.
06:21Draymond, they didn't think he was good.
06:23Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole, they're good players.
06:25Steph Curry, everyone in Boston.
06:28And this is an OG, the original basketball, like this is the dynasty that started basketball.
06:34They were bowing down to Steph Curry.
06:37I said, this is the greatest player I've ever seen.
06:39It was the most incredible thing ever.
06:40And then he kept going like this at every time out when Draymond is pulling a milk carton MIA.
06:46Look, Steph Curry is the goat on and off the floor.
06:49And to you, you brought up the grace that he carries himself with.
06:54He's so dignified.
06:56Presidents bow down to him in certain sense.
06:59Bryson DeChambeau and him broke the internet doing golf together.
07:02Unbelievable.
07:03He's a world icon.
07:04Unbelievable.
07:05Yeah, I've never seen anything like it.
07:07He's the best.
07:08I've never, ever, ever seen anything like it where somebody who lives in a fishbowl like that can somehow seemingly never make a mistake.
07:17He's the guy.
07:18Nobody has ever had a bad.
07:20Mark.
07:21Two minutes with him.
07:22Mark.
07:23Name a moment where he threw a teammate under the bus.
07:2520 years.
07:26Hasn't happened.
07:27No.
07:28He didn't wear it.
07:29Hold on.
07:30He threw the mouth guard?
07:31Like, is that it?
07:32That's his low moment?
07:34I mean, there was that time he called Stiney and pissed some people off at the station.
07:38But that's about it.
07:39I called Stiney a buster one time.
07:40We made up.
07:41The fact that he has done it in the social media dominated era does matter a lot.
07:46Yes.
07:47That's right.
07:48That's a great point.
07:49The 90s and the 80s.
07:50I mean, you guys can speak to that.
07:51I was a zygote, as Dibbs likes to say.
07:53Oh, yeah.
07:54But it was.
07:55I watched the Cowboys, Doc.
07:56Oh, my God.
07:57Yeah.
07:58What he's been able to do with all the eyeballs constantly on him and internationally, it's
08:03true.
08:04Like, if you could translate the way Michael Jordan did internationally, when guys like
08:09the Greek freak, guys like LeBron, he's selling more jerseys than both those guys.
08:14Yep.
08:15It's insane.
08:16Yep.
08:17Yeah.
08:18All right.
08:19So, with that level of appreciation, I think you start to think about how much time is left.
08:27And, like, Guru, Stiney, how many more years do you think we got to watch this guy?
08:35I'm going four more years.
08:39I think four more years is what we have.
08:42And, you know, that's just my gut feeling.
08:45And I don't even want to think about it, Mark, because it's going to just be hell to, like,
08:51Michael Jordan and the Bulls.
08:52How's that worked out trying to replace him?
08:54But I'm going to just go four years at high optimum or close to what Steph's been.
08:59That put him at what, at 41?
09:01Yeah.
09:02I mean, that's, like, I asked that not just as a predictive piece of how much longer he
09:06will do this, but how much longer will he be able to do it at a level where this is an
09:12NBA one who can actually effectively.
09:15You think that's too, Stiney, I'll ask you, you think four is too much?
09:17I think that's too many years.
09:18You just said it at the end.
09:19That makes him 41.
09:21Al Horford is 39.
09:23But this ain't, this is different.
09:24Of course he's not.
09:25It's different.
09:26LeBron James is younger than 41.
09:28He's still a top ten player in the league.
09:29No, he, that is, that's a fact.
09:31Just be real.
09:32The problem is.
09:33But also not playing.
09:34Not playing right now.
09:35Yeah.
09:36The problem is, is that they still need him.
09:39Yeah.
09:40To play the role of somebody eight years ago.
09:45Damn.
09:46Like, they, they, they need to start to get him to go from superstar to star to great
09:57sixth man or role player or catalyst.
10:01Otherwise, I don't know how it ends.
10:04Well, who's in the bullpen, Mark?
10:06And that's why I'm like, community can not go anywhere.
10:08Well, nobody.
10:09Nobody will ever be in the bullpen.
10:10They don't have anybody.
10:12Nobody, but I think that there's, there's at least.
10:14What if Weidman would have hit?
10:15Yeah.
10:16Can I say that?
10:17Who knows?
10:18I think you have to fall back in that moment of, you have an owner of the team who is
10:22going to go after whatever is potentially.
10:24The Laker model.
10:25Well, you know, I mean, there's that.
10:27Plus, I do think that this year, I mean, I'm not saying I see any NBA ones.
10:32Yeah.
10:33One of the things that made last night fun is that for the first time, you can start
10:38to at least see pieces that might be part of a future core, multiple pieces.
10:45First time in three, four, five years I've felt that way.
10:49I don't want to watch more of it where all three are out at the same time.
10:53Stiney today, hashtag random.
10:55I don't think we get 10 games of those three out at the same time, do we?
10:59You probably get 10.
11:00I mean, 10 over under nine and a half would be close.
11:04And, you know, Stiney, what you're saying about like him matriculating to other roles,
11:08that almost never happens.
11:10It's more likely that the affirmation Kobe Bryant.
11:13Yeah.
11:14But at the end, Ray was not the best player on the team.
11:17No, no, no.
11:18It's more likely that this ends the way it ended with Kobe, which is I'm the best player
11:22still hanging on on a terrible team.
11:24Wow, man.
11:25And he had a devastating injury with the Achilles right there too.
11:27Yeah.
11:28Steph, thank God, it hasn't happened yet.
11:29I think it's a lot harder to find a guy to come in and be the one.
11:32Now Steph's the two.
11:33Now you get another one.
11:34Wow, man.
11:35Now Steph's the three.
11:36Well, you know what?
11:37It's harder to do that.
11:38Well, it is harder to do that, but that's where like a Giannis would come in.
11:41Exactly.
11:42In theory.
11:43Oh, man, that would be so weak.
11:44And that's what happened with the Lakers.
11:45LeBron, Luka obviously getting there.
11:47Wow.
11:48Still the worst trade I've ever seen in my life.
11:49Nico Harrison on line one.
11:50To me, this is one of the reasons why you've got to soak up every game right now.
11:54Exactly.
11:55I think you guys might be a little hot with the numbers that you're throwing out.
11:58I got one or two.
11:59Yeah.
12:00I guess two or three.
12:01I don't want to hear that.
12:02Well, but this role that you guys are imagining, I don't even know if he wants that role.
12:08Yeah.
12:09Right?
12:10He said not too long ago he wanted to play into his 40s.
12:12I know he said that.
12:13His 40s are not four years away.
12:15They're two and a half years away.
12:17Here's the number one question on that.
12:19I mean, look, he's earned the right two.
12:22But if you're soaking up $75 million of a $160 million cap three years from now,
12:28that does make it harder to build the team around you.
12:31There's a financial component simultaneously.
12:33And that's what Dibs brought up with Kobe towards the end there.
12:35He's like, I ain't taking a pay cut.
12:36Right.
12:37Stop.
12:38Like, is Steph going to be able to do that?
12:39We haven't seen LeBron do it.
12:40They want to get all the money that they can.
12:41I'm not blaming them.
12:42It's just reality.
12:44It's very rare that guys do that.
12:46Yep.
12:47Tim Duncan.
12:48Tom Brady, yeah.
12:49What if we just add the whole group now in, right?
12:51I mean, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, Steph Curry.
12:54I think we're seeing the beginning of the end of Draymond.
12:56These guys at this moment contractually have this year and next year.
13:01Yep.
13:02Are we comfortable saying that, hell, it might not even make it to next year that they can
13:08sort of be formed like this and compete?
13:11I know there are some who don't believe that you can do that this year.
13:15If you ask me right now, what am I betting on?
13:18Draymond playing 30 minutes a game, 65 nights this year, and all seven games in a series.
13:25I think their best role is for Dre, and they need him down the stretch.
13:29I think it's the Iggy role.
13:30Off the bench, closing games, like you're using him in specific spots.
13:36I don't think he can be a 30-minute-a-night guy for this team.
13:40I've seen the wear and tear already.
13:41Butch, I'm no doctor, because we've said this before.
13:43I'm telling you, man.
13:44When you leave the studio real quick, this dude's been Joe Frazier, Draymond Green.
13:49He's incredible.
13:50Headed to the Hall of Fame.
13:51But when you watch him run down the court, you can just tell Willard it's a labor.
13:56I agree.
13:57It looks like Gronk.
13:58Gronk at the end.
13:59Remember Gronk at the end?
14:00He was still great, but he looked like Frankenstein.
14:03I watch him just like, wow, you can tell it's hard, man.
14:06I agree.
14:07I mean, watch all of us when we get up from this table here in about 10 minutes.
14:12I feel good.
14:13Do you know what I mean?
14:14Like, yeah, you start.
14:15No, I know what you mean.
14:16Every human being starts moving differently.
14:18Wow, man.
14:19And, yes.
14:20So, yes.
14:21I see it, too.
14:22Can they win it all this year?
14:24I'm saying yes.
14:26Go ahead.
14:27Let's get to that.
14:28Let's go all the way down the table and, like, just answer that.
14:32What are your realistic expectations for the team this year?
14:35I think they can reach the Western Conference Finals.
14:39And if you can do that, anything is possible.
14:42Kevin Garnett.
14:43And you're beat.
14:44Whoever comes out of the West, lock it in right now, is beating whatever team's
14:47going out of the East.
14:48There's no Eastern Conference team that's going to win the title this season.
14:51So, whoever comes out of the West, and I put the hierarchy still for me right now.
14:55OKC, Denver.
14:57And I know the Warriors beat them, but I'm still giving respect in a series to Denver.
15:01And then you're going either Rockets or Dubs for me.
15:04Right now, that's how I view it.
15:06So, if you can get there, sure, you can win a title.
15:10I agree.
15:11But you've got to get there first, and the body's got to hold up.
15:14I don't know.
15:15Like, that first, I can't get that first round series against the Rockets out of my mind.
15:19It's tough, man.
15:20Like, a tailbone.
15:21Up three to one.
15:22A tailbone and a soft tissue injury, and you're cooked.
15:25But, is Jonathan Kaminga a better version?
15:28Is Moses Moody a better version?
15:29Like, if you get this version of Jonathan Kaminga, Moses Moody, in that series against
15:34the Wolves, maybe you extend it, right?
15:36Well, that's the piece that nobody likes to acknowledge.
15:38But I think in all title runs in every sport, you need some luck.
15:43Yes.
15:44You're going to need some luck.
15:45Absolutely.
15:46Luke's Conrad.
15:47Nobody wants to talk about that because it feels like, I don't know, weakness or out
15:51of your hands.
15:52But, even the Warrior titles, when they were clearly the best team, we all know about the
15:57injuries that have happened to the best players on the other teams.
16:00All things take breaks.
16:02I mean, look at the Dodgers on line one.
16:05The wedgie, right?
16:06Like, we're all looking at that.
16:08The things that had to break for them, now they put themselves in positions to do that.
16:11You've got to have luck.
16:12Allabert in game seven.
16:13There you go.
16:14Who was on fire?
16:15Right, right, right.
16:16Anyway, I'm going to say this on my chest.
16:18What's your answer?
16:19I'm going to say, I think they can win a title one of these next two years.
16:23I really do.
16:24And luck is going to play a big part.
16:27I just don't think the big three are going to be the catalyst.
16:31It's going to be two out of three and one of the youngsters or a trade is going to help
16:35do it for them.
16:36Yeah.
16:37I don't believe in OKC being this back-to-back slam dunk champion.
16:40They're great.
16:41Let's see how the season progresses.
16:43I didn't see Tatum tearing his Achilles last year.
16:45No one saw that happening.
16:47I'm never going to doubt them.
16:50Patriots and Brady for 20 years.
16:52Good luck.
16:53The Chiefs and Mahomes.
16:55It's Kerr and Curry.
16:57Why are we not giving them the benefit of the doubt of just one more shot at it?
17:01I think they can do it.
17:02And it could have been last year, and I still got PTSD real quick of that.
17:06Curry's handy, man.
17:07I think last year is a good thing to kind of focus on for a second because what I see
17:12in these nine games is a lot of potential, but I also have a curiosity as to whether or
17:18not they have the energy that it will take for a top four seed, which means if you don't
17:25end up in that top four, if you are five, if you are six, if you have to work your way
17:30through seven or eight and get into that situation again, that's doable.
17:35I think we all felt it was at least doable-ish last year, but then breaks need to go your
17:42way.
17:43And major injuries cannot happen.
17:46It's kind of like how I feel about the Niners this year.
17:49If you'd asked me at the beginning of the year, are they a Super Bowl contender?
17:53I'm like, outside chance.
17:55Wow, man.
17:56But not now.
17:57Not if you don't get breaks.
17:59And maybe that's why a move wasn't made.
18:01I know Butch feel the way he did.
18:02Yeah, and I think that's a tough one.
18:05But what do you think?
18:06I mean, if you're talking about realistically, realistically you could win two series and
18:11you'd make the Western Conference Finals, that to me, honestly, if I'm being a realist,
18:15I've been a Warrior fan for 50 whatever years, and it's my favorite team of the three, and
18:20I always want them to win the title.
18:21But if I'm going to be real about it, even if you caught all the breaks, you got health
18:26and you got a decent seed and you got in the playoffs, I still don't see this team winning
18:3216 games.
18:33Can you win 12?
18:34Maybe.
18:35If I put the over-under, as I did last year, Joe, all last year I told him, over-under
18:40five and a half playoff wins.
18:42Four and a half.
18:43Over-under four and a half playoff wins, which means you win a series.
18:47That's a great number.
18:48Yeah.
18:49And all year he was under, and then they got Jimmy, and it clicked, and then he switched
18:52to the over, and they won five games.
18:54And I know there was injuries.
18:56It was a soft tissue and a tailbone, but I look at a team that's a year older, and if I
19:01said over-under seven and a half playoff wins for this team right now, I'd take the
19:06under.
19:07Do you feel better about the non-Big Three core, though?
19:10Because I do.
19:11I do.
19:12I think that helps.
19:13I do, but I don't feel better when you get into a playoff situation and everyone gets
19:17down to eight, seven or eight players.
19:20I believe that their non-core guys are good enough to beat the other team's non-core
19:25guys.
19:26I'm with Denver, Minnesota, Oklahoma City.
19:28Steven Jackson said something recently.
19:30Steven Jackson said something recently, and again, there's a journey for all these teams
19:34to get to this point.
19:35But he said, in a mythical Western Conference playoffs, with all the teams at their strength,
19:42the five that start and finish that I would trust the most in a playoff scenario is the
19:49five that the Warriors can put out there.
19:52I love that.
19:53Steph, Draymond, Jimmy, Al, and J.K.
19:57And we said that before Steven said it.
20:00I love Steve, but we, I was, that'll come on.
20:02Oh, yeah.
20:03I just won the title.
20:04So the best lineup, the best five-man lineup is a lineup, the best five-man lineup, any
20:13team in the NBA is a team that's just starting to play as a five-man lineup for the first
20:20time.
20:21And four of them.
20:22And four of them.
20:23And a 39-year-old who can't shoot for three.
20:26And four of the five players are over 35.
20:29Exactly.
20:30But you also get where he's coming from.
20:32No doubt about it.
20:33He's talking about trust and experience at the end.
20:36And they've done it.
20:37At the end of playoffs.
20:38Yeah.
20:39The We Believe team, by the way, they won five playoff games.
20:42We all want to lionize that run.
20:44Okay.
20:45Facts?
20:46Yeah, but Jason has come back from a broken wrist and there's a lot going on.
20:49But that's like Steven Jackson's high watermark as an NBA playoff player.
20:52No, I know.
20:53That's all I'm saying.
20:54No, he won a title with the Spurs.
20:55Oh, you're right.
20:56I apologize.
20:57He won a title with the Spurs.
20:58You're right.
20:59As a role player though.
21:00Yeah, sure.
21:01Public expectations this year.
21:04Oh boy.
21:05You're shaking your head.
21:06Damn.
21:07I don't like, they're not going to win a title.
21:10Okay.
21:11Can they win eight playoff games?
21:13I don't think so.
21:14Wow.
21:15I don't think so.
21:16And it's all age?
21:19That's a lot of it.
21:20It's just, there are things that are going to happen in March that we can't imagine now.
21:26And I don't think they're going to be good things.
21:29If they, they're, they're embarking on something unprecedented.
21:34Unprecedented.
21:35Yeah.
21:36Yeah.
21:37Sorry.
21:38I said, I don't want to get out of it.
21:39What did you say?
21:40Get out of it.
21:41Get out of it.
21:42Get out of it.
21:43What is he basically doing?
21:45He's not doing it on purpose.
21:46Eddie Echo?
21:47We just did an exercise on what Curry means and Butch talked about the best.
21:50So we're robbing Steph.
21:51That's what I'm saying.
21:52Of maybe taking it one last time.
21:54I'm with you.
21:55If we all meant what we said, and I believe all six of us do, how can we say that's off
22:00the table?
22:01I'm with you, too.
22:02I'm with you, too.
22:03Which is, this is all about stretching the imagination and believing the unbelievable.
22:10Right.
22:11And if Steph hasn't earned that.
22:12That's what we did in 2022.
22:14He did that fair.
22:15All right.
22:16First of all, I want to let you know what's coming up.
22:18It's the Warriors Roundtable with Kevin Dana and Gary St. Gene.
22:22Yeah.
22:23And it's brought to you by Fremont Bank.
22:25Here for you.
22:26They passed me out one time.
22:27Here for good.
22:28The first thing I want to do is thank all of you for coming.
22:36Thank you so much.
22:41Some very special thank yous to some special guests that are here.

22:55Thank you so much.
22:56Maddie Haley with Ashby Lumber.
22:58Thank you so much.
22:59Yeah.
23:00And last but absolutely not least, Chris, John, and Dave here from Jack's Restaurant in Boulder.
23:09Yay!
23:10You all crushed this.
23:12Tim Jordan, Sam, and Grandy in the back, baby.
23:14And Grandy and Steven Rizzotto.
23:15Let's go.
23:16Let's go.
23:17You guys did back at the studio.
23:19Thank you very much.
23:20Thank you, you four, for doing your second show today.

23:30It is a rumor.
23:31It is a rumor.
23:32It is a rumor.
23:33Look at Arthur's rumor.
23:34I made a Fleetwood Mac.
