00:00We've got 30 days to open.
00:02There's still a lot of work to do.
00:04I am concerned at this stage.
00:07Nervous about where we're at today and where we need to be.
00:11We've still got more than 20 units left to finish.
00:14The deadline to the opening is fast approaching.
00:17We have some units that are almost there.
00:20There's some other units that will be almost there the day before we open.
00:24There is so much land available on this island.
00:27The potential of owning 600 acres of raw land, it's daunting.
00:32There are so many ideas floating around in our heads.
00:48We're a couple of weeks to the official opening for Pines and Palms.
00:53It's a very intense time on property as a whole.
00:57We still have a great deal of trades here.
00:59But now we also have a lot of the team back on site.
01:07Today I have Karlyn on site and Michelle on site.
01:09So that doesn't feel so lonely.
01:11What I would like to do, while we don't have too much stuff in here,
01:14we'll get this sofa reorientated, which will take all of us.
01:20So Michelle, I know we did a lot in the other unit,
01:23so it's just duplicating here.
01:24Replicating, yeah.
01:25So, yeah, let me move those over here.
01:37Is it heavy?
01:38Maybe.
01:45You guys good?
01:46Yeah.
01:47Okay.
01:48You guys take that over.
01:49We'll get rid of this, and then we'll do the dining.
01:53Well, this is where you either sink or you swim.
01:56I don't know if this is finishing touches.
01:58I'd say we're still in the thick of it.
02:00Come on up!
02:07Have you looked at the email from Brett?
02:09Yeah.
02:10It sounds like they can get everything done.
02:12Yeah.
02:13However, the construction schedule is one thing.
02:17Yes.
02:18What no one is thinking about is that these rooms have to be cleaned,
02:22all of the wallpaper installed, all of the furniture assembled,
02:25all of the fits and finishes with artwork, mirror, lighting, decor.
02:29That's kind of where you take over.
02:31That's your window.
02:32When we did the very first schedule.
02:33And everyone's been pushed.
02:34I allocated X number of days per unit to get in there and do all those finishes.
02:39And in grand total, it was probably about a month's worth of work.
02:42Yeah.
02:43And is that all condensed now?
02:44That doesn't even exist on a schedule anymore.
02:46Can you weave all of that into...
02:49So, it can always be done, but what it means is we're going to be paying, like,
02:53the installer to come back, like, seven, eight times as a single room is ready,
02:58instead of saying bring your team of six and blitz the property.
03:01That is hard to finish one space and then go back.
03:04From the construction perspective, they want to wrap up and finish.
03:07Yeah.
03:08But that's when people assume that means we can open the doors.
03:13Okay, so what's the...
03:14I don't know yet.
03:15Okay.
03:16I'm just nervous.
03:17I'll be honest.
03:18Yeah.
03:19I think we'll make the dates for construction.
03:22What are we doing here?
03:36So, these are the new room numbers.
03:38Okay.
03:39See?
03:40So, we have, like, the pine tree and the palm tree.
03:43Oh, is that for, like, pines and palms?
03:45Pines and palms!
03:46And it's the new brand color.
03:47What?
03:48You don't like these mismatched numbers?
03:50Those were just temporary.
03:52Okay.
03:53So...
03:54Needs to go a little higher, please.
03:57Higher than that?
03:58Yeah.
03:59That looks right.
04:01Here, I'll hold it and you step back.
04:07I don't want it too low and I don't want it too high.
04:12Well, it's above your eye line.
04:13Yeah, but, like, I can see it's room 11.
04:15Okay.
04:16About there.
04:17I don't want to go much lower, I don't think.
04:18You could see this is room 11 if this was on the floor or the ceiling or the roof, even.
04:23Okay, I like these finishing details.
04:28What number?
04:29She looks pretty!
04:31Are you happy?
04:32I'm happy.
04:33They actually do look really good.
04:34I like the look of these.
04:35Thank you.
04:36But there's how many more?
04:38Uh, 25?
04:39I have about half an hour and I have to leave.
04:42Okay.
04:43So we better...
04:44We got a minute and a bit.
04:45Pick up the box and run.
04:46Yeah, let's call it a minute each.
04:47Let's hammer off one, two, and three.
04:48They're all in order.
04:49Okay.
04:59Sometimes at the end of a day or into the evening, I do make frantic calls to my husband.
05:06Hey, how are you?
05:08Tired, but good.
05:09How are you?
05:10You're tired?
05:11Well, we're still here working.
05:12We're just trying to at least finish off some of these, like, smaller little units to just cross them off the list.
05:21Although the property as a whole has not finished construction, we do have certain units that are ready for furnishing.
05:27So we're unpacking furniture and construction is going on all at the same time.
05:33I was wondering if you could do me a bit of a favor, though, before you come down tomorrow.
05:36Like, if you could just bring your tool kit, bring a drill, bring a hammer, bring all that stuff so you can help.
05:41Okay.
05:42All right.
05:43I will send you the bill.
05:46I can't afford you.
05:48You're right.
05:57At this stage of construction, we are into the PDI, which is the pre-delivery inspection.
06:02You kind of go through every room.
06:04You're making notes like, oh, this light is not in the right spot.
06:07This piece of furniture isn't correct.
06:09We're missing this.
06:10We're missing that.
06:11It is the very final list of elements to complete that room, close the door so it's ready for guests.
06:16And I guess some of that list is coming my way.
06:20In the poolside unit, Sarah has bought some linear tables that go against the wall just for a couple of chairs to go in.
06:26There's not a ton of space in these units, so she's got to maximize the usage that she can get out of that furniture.
06:32Well, the legs are a little closer together than she was hoping.
06:36It's a bit tight for the chairs, so I need to modify this furniture.
06:43They're also just, you know, one more thing off the list, so I'm not really one to just stand around.
06:51He's still got it, folks.
06:53Okay, one more.
06:56Okay, that ought to do it.
07:02And now, two chairs fit nice and comfortably under the table.
07:08Oh, you're just in time.
07:09You want to see this table?
07:10Yeah.
07:13See, all this extra breathing room so you can pull it out, you can get it in.
07:16Look at that.
07:17Look at that.
07:18We could sit together.
07:19How did he do it, folks?
07:20How did I do it?
07:21Well, I think it was 10 o'clock last night.
07:23I said, can you help me?
07:25Yeah, now the table's done.
07:26You have another table in the poolside unit?
07:28Yeah, two more over.
07:29She's happy.
07:30Therefore, I am happy.
07:32I'm off to the next one.
07:33Hey, your car just all of a sudden died?
07:46You're pulling out from Baton?
07:48What, are you getting crepes?
07:49Sarah's having some car trouble, she's called.
07:51I don't know that she knows that she's on speakerphone at the moment.
07:54I luckily didn't get onto the main road.
07:56Okay.
07:57And then it's my car was like chug, chug, chug, chug, chug.
08:00And then the battery light came on and my car literally shut down.
08:02Was it chug, chug, chug, chug, chug?
08:04Or like four chugs or five?
08:10And she may regret calling me in the first place.
08:13Okay, so I'm sensing some frustration.
08:18No , Sherlock, please come rescue me.
08:22Is that what you would like to hear?
08:24I will help you.
08:25All right, see you in a bit.
08:27Love you.
08:28Bye.
08:30There's her car.
08:35Yo, the battery light isn't on anymore.
08:37But that would be an engine light on.
08:39The check engine light's on, yes.
08:40Thank you.
08:41You did get it home, but lo and behold, my battery didn't need to be replaced.
08:46I'm very grateful that my husband came and rescued me from being stranded.
08:53This is just a myriad of things that have gone wrong, unfortunately.
08:57This is a huge oversight.
09:13Putting a skimmer in when the pool is already complete.
09:16It should have been done two months ago.
09:19It's the area that it kind of sucks water off the top.
09:24So any leaves or floating debris go into the skimmer, they get caught in the filter.
09:28It goes to the pump, filters everything, pumps the water back into the pool.
09:32So it's a pretty integral and required part of the pool plumbing.
09:37For some reason off the original architectural, the drawing set from the pool company, the skimmer was missing.
09:47So when the pool was redone and retiled and filled with water and completed, they realized upon inspection that there was no skimmer.
09:57Which means we have to go back to go forward.
10:03The reality is this was supposed to be a simple fix, but there's nothing here that says this is simple.
10:09It's been a day and a half of digging this all up.
10:13And now it looks like we have to run all of the new piping tied into the skimmer into the pool, then re-pour all this concrete, relay all the pavers.
10:25You know, we're going backwards.
10:27We are down to some of the finishing touches and installing artwork is one of those last items that we put into each of these rooms.
10:47This is a pasta piece.
10:48This is a pasta piece.
10:49Pasta has been working so hard around the clock on creating these beautiful custom pieces of art.
10:56Being a local artist, being sort of the heart of Isla Murata, it's really important to the partners to have some of his pieces within each of these rooms.
11:05All right, first of the pieces to go up.
11:08Okay, where do you want it?
11:10So could you just lean it on the table for the time being?
11:13Oh, perfect.
11:14Installed.
11:15The clock is counting down until guests are driving through the front gate and occupying these rooms.
11:21Like we could center it here and just move this table over.
11:23I just don't want the table encroaching on the bedroom.
11:26It's not going to encroach if you move that table five inches to the right.
11:30Could you go up just a little bit?
11:32Drop your left side.
11:33Okay, take it away.
11:35Now what are you going to do?
11:38I need you to come put your fingers here.
11:40Only if you choose different fingers.
11:42Right now all I can see is that to-do list of things that still have to be done.
11:49So it's the fight to the finish to make sure absolutely everything is perfect.
11:53Every towel is folded beautifully.
11:55Every bed is ironed and ready for guests.
11:58These are the things that keep me up at night, but I feel like we are getting very near to the finish line.
12:05There you go. Come and look at your coconuts.
12:08Thank you.
12:17There's less and less trades on site.
12:19We've got 48 hours left.
12:21Things are starting to get buttoned up.
12:22We're checking items off the list.
12:24For the past few days, Sarah has been just, you know, fully immersed.
12:28Trying to get all the deliveries in here, unpacking the boxes, putting furniture together.
12:32Things arrived damaged.
12:33They need to be replaced and the clock is ticking.
12:35We have guests coming into these rooms.
12:37They have to be fully set up, operational, functional.
12:40They have to look great.
12:41So this is the part of the job when there are just a ton of demands on Sarah and her timing.
12:46We are in the finishing touches stage, but we are definitely not at the finish line.
13:00Right there.
13:01That looks good.
13:02That looks good.
13:03So good.
13:04What do you guys think? You look good?
13:05You like it?
13:06All right.
13:07There we go.
13:08Can you hang that and I'm going to get the piece of fish art for this wall?
13:11The ocean view unit was a challenge with the rusted rebar in the beam, the spalling concrete, the plumbing, the electrical.
13:25The proximity to the ocean, the salt air had just eaten away at these units.
13:30They're some of the original units on property and we saw it firsthand.
13:35These units ate up a majority of the budget structurally for sure.
13:40These units are why people come to the Keys.
13:51People want that true oceanfront living.
13:54They want to wake up.
13:56They want to sit on their patio in their bare feet and walk steps right out into the ocean.
14:03We really wanted to just maximize the view.
14:07All new windows were really important in this space.
14:10Even how we treated the drapery but also the bed area so that you could create a beautiful view at different times of day in each of the areas of the room.
14:19On the construction side, the design team asked us to remove fairly significant concrete posts.
14:31We were able to cut back a stub in the wall to open up the area between the kitchen and the living room, which I think was really helpful and take away part of that dividing wall as well to open up the space.
14:42It solved two problems with one solution.
14:46We had to repair the beam anyway for the rusted rebar and the spalling.
14:51And it ended up giving us more space that we wanted.
14:55I am pleased with how these units have turned out.
15:03I think they've come together beautifully.
15:05I still think they feel resort-esque, easy, relaxed, casual vibe.
15:10I also know we have work ahead of us.
15:17The pool is still weighing on my mind a little bit.
15:20This is a huge feature.
15:21We don't know if it will be completed.
15:23And there are still other units that need some finishing touches.
15:26So it's not time to take a rest.
15:29It's time to just go full throttle ahead.
15:31I think when we first looked at this project and, you know, we met with the partners and we walked through the property, everybody had the rose-colored glasses on, as you always do at the beginning of a project like this.
15:52We should be under budget and on time.
15:54There you go.
15:55We were excited about the concept of taking something iconic in the Keys and just, you know, bringing it up to modern standard and bringing more people down to actually enjoy that property.
16:07But you do certainly go through, you know, the physical, the financial, and the emotional up and down in a project like this.
16:17I think that's part of the problem with six people at the table is everyone just keeps saying, sure, sure, sure, sure.
16:22You know, there's a lot of decisions being made.
16:25The budgets are going up and up and up.
16:27We're not extending the schedule as far ahead as we should be with the scope of work.
16:33We've still got guests coming on property mid renovation.
16:38We've got to shut everything down for weddings and resort buyouts.
16:42This was a heavy lift in a very short amount of time.
16:45As a group, I think we all did want to think optimistically, but once you start pulling back drywall and seeing what was existing, we had to really put on the brakes and go back.
17:00We weren't dealing with the same thing in every unit.
17:02We saw mold in some of the units.
17:04We saw termite damage in other units.
17:06We saw structural issues.
17:08We saw the corrosion of the metal in some of the townhouse units.
17:12Like, every single unit had its own problems and they were different than the other unit.
17:17It's definitely worth mentioning that on a project like this, you know, it's not just us.
17:22It wasn't just Nick and Rainey or Chad and Katie.
17:26It's Brett that's on site with his guys.
17:28It's Ted.
17:29It's Ed.
17:30It's Joe.
17:31Byba.
17:32It's all of the staff.
17:33All of the trades.
17:34You know, everybody that's coming together.
17:36And you're really in a project like this, create an entirely new community.
17:50Installing this skimmer, it's a lot easier before you finish the pool.
17:55We've got to drain the water.
17:56They've got to cut into the concrete.
17:58They've got to lift a path through the new decking of the pool material.
18:02Over the edge, we've got to run new plumbing in, get the skimmer installed, get the mortar
18:07and the grout, all the concrete, the tiles back in place, put the deck down, you know,
18:12make sure it's operating properly.
18:14This may be the very last thing completed before guests come through the front door.
18:27I'm sort of breathing a sigh of relief.
18:29This pool is one of the key features on property here.
18:33This pool is known in Isla Murata as one of the most beautiful pools because it's basically
18:38on top of the ocean.
18:40This is a key feature.
18:41So there was no opening without it.
18:44So I'm just happy that it has been completed and we can officially open the doors.
18:56All right.
18:57This is your pool.
18:58Katie, after you.
18:59Oh my gosh.
19:01It looks so good.
19:06It's gorgeous.
19:07It's beautiful.
19:09It's a slightly different vibe.
19:11Yeah, I would say.
19:13Oh my gosh, it looks so good.
19:16Before we had the pool and then we had this little like dungeon bar.
19:20Your bar.
19:21Look at this.
19:22Oh my gosh.
19:23It looks so good.
19:24It's more of a destination now for guests to come and relax than a depressing cage.
19:29Yeah.
19:30Absolutely.
19:31But Pasta's art was sort of the jumping off point with the greens and the blues that
19:36felt pines and palms.
19:37Right.
19:38I mean, that's amazing.
19:39We did here add the shower as well by the Cabana Bass.
19:42We have a quick place to rinse off.
19:44Oh, because before they were showering over there and like splashing people in the pool.
19:48We haven't increased the footprint at all.
19:50But it feels like it.
19:51It feels like it.
19:52It feels like it.
19:53The color of the ceiling, all the white, like it just makes everything feel so much bigger.
19:59I think it ties in like it looks like it was always here, which is part of the trick.
20:03Right.
20:04Because we're meshing old and new.
20:05The good news is the guests are already here.
20:07I mean, they're setting up tents for the next event.
20:09They're probably waiting for us to finish.
20:10I know.
20:11I can't believe after being closed all this time that we have guests back on property.
20:16I'm thrilled.
20:17It's looking a lot better.
20:18Let's put it that way.
20:19I want to get out there and see the pool.
20:20Well, come out and see the pool.
20:22Oh my gosh.
20:23It looks so good.
20:24It's beautiful.
20:25Yeah.
20:26This is a really cozy spot.
20:27It looks so good.
20:28This is, I mean, beyond expectations.
20:31I mean, I knew it would be beautiful because of the scenery, but I did not know it could look
20:35this beautiful.
20:36You have to think.
20:37We had those rickety plastic chairs before.
20:40Yep.
20:41No umbrellas.
20:42That bright blue concrete floor.
20:45And then you had to step up to actually get in the pool.
20:48Yes.
20:49Yep.
20:50Like it felt like you were enclosed, which we don't want.
20:53And the fact that there was no sunshade, so we've added some umbrellas, even just bringing
20:57in the palm trees.
20:58Yeah.
20:59I was adverse to building in the trees into the deck and Mike, the landscape architect.
21:04Said you got to do it.
21:06And he was right.
21:07The new pool is amazing.
21:09I would challenge anyone to find something nicer.
21:12I mean, you can't lose.
21:13Because you have all the glass, people are going to, depending on the time of day, take
21:17their chairs, turn them around, start staring at the ocean.
21:20So how does this look at night?
21:22Stunning.
21:23It really does.
21:24Yeah, it's very zen.
21:25You can choose your color on the lit glass panels.
21:28Amazing.
21:29Yeah.
21:30This is now a destination.
21:31Right.
21:32This is now going to draw them here and keep them here.
21:34I don't think it could be any more perfect.
21:36Well, I think it's safe to say the Pines and Palms baby has successfully been reborn.
21:40That's it.
21:41Almost all the rooms are full.
21:42There's tents going up for a huge event.
21:44There's guests everywhere.
21:45All we have to do now is get out of the way and let them enjoy it.
21:47I love it.
21:48It's amazing.
21:49I just feel immense gratitude, relief.
21:52I feel so thankful that it's all over.
21:54It's never felt so good to know that we're done.
21:57Hey, we did it.
21:58We did it.
21:59Woo-hoo!
22:00I don't know how, but it happened.
22:02We did it.
22:03I can't believe how good it looks.
22:05The project is done.
22:07Pines and Palms is ready to open the doors for guests.
22:09We've got the partners here.
22:10We're standing by the pool.
22:12Everything is beautiful.
22:13It's a good feeling that we made it.
22:15We did it.
22:16Everybody's still talking.
22:17Without Brian and Sarah, we couldn't have made it out of the starting gate.
22:21Coming back today, seeing guests walking in bathing suits again on property.
22:26I don't see any nails.
22:30I don't hear any hammers.
22:33I couldn't be happier.
22:37All right, Pines and Palms.
22:51So first impressions, it looks a lot cleaner.
22:54The reception in particular sort of sets the mood for the rest of the property.
22:59It's fun.
23:00It's whimsical.
23:01It's tropical.
23:02Brand new kitchen that you and Brett did, which I love.
23:07And then the grab and go.
23:09So that is also a source of revenue.
23:11That's great.
23:12And the two storey units here.
23:15What a nightmare that was downstairs.
23:18When we first opened this one up, I mean, rot falling apart.
23:21The water damage, the improper framing.
23:24Now it's accessible, full kitchen, tile floor.
23:29Upstairs is great.
23:31Nice big unit for a family.
23:32People can split costs.
23:35And the all new windows and doors, I think, has really helped as well.
23:39Everything feels a little bit brighter.
23:41Yeah.
23:42Still a bit of work happening on the stilts.
23:44A few final touches, but I am glad we did that structural work.
23:47Got the new railings up, the decking down.
23:49Out of all the rooms and projects on property, I think the stilt units were probably the ones that I didn't think were going to make it.
23:56So much structural work to do now that all the work has been done.
24:01I mean, the decks are bigger.
24:03They're safe.
24:04The rooms across the top on the stilt just look inviting.
24:07The first time we walked in and walked on site, there's water damage, there's mold.
24:12History.
24:13History.
24:14That's what I call that.
24:15It did not look like somewhere that I could convince Sarah to stay for a night.
24:19The stilt units in particular, we put in all new windows and doors, which I think really opened up the space.
24:27What's in the kitchen?
24:28Floor plan will stay the same, but this will all be ripped out.
24:31When we're looking at the layout, the layout didn't change all that much.
24:35We still had the central living space when you first walked in.
24:38We did reconfigure the kitchen with all new cabinetry and appliances.
24:43Bathroom.
24:45I think we can just better use this real estate.
24:49All of these walls need to come down.
24:51We've moved the sink into the bathroom.
24:54We've created sort of a more standardized look and feel for the bathroom.
24:58It does feel new, improved, fresh, clean.
25:02And then you still have the privacy of a bedroom at the back of the property.
25:06So it does feel like a completely new take on these old units.
25:10This in here, remember we had the road going right down.
25:14So we'd have trucks and cars, people trying to put boats in.
25:17Now it's in one way, out the other to limit cars driving everywhere.
25:21This becomes this sort of wandering path for bikes and for kids to play on.
25:25Once this landscaping grows in, it's going to add a lot of privacy too.
25:29And you know what? The numbers look fantastic.
25:32You like the numbers?
25:33They are hung with precision.
25:35The poolside units are kind of where we started.
25:39Looking back how dated they were, it's a completely different unit.
25:45We had some fun here, I think, with the finishes as well.
25:48I love the way the green wallpaper came out.
25:52We wanted to give it some personality, but we didn't want these spaces to feel too overpowering.
25:58And the thing with the hotel is you never want your hotel to feel outdated.
26:03So you're looking for classic things that will sort of stand the test of time.
26:08The views are still spectacular from these units and they are wonderful proximity to the ocean and the pool.
26:15Yeah.
26:16Like these are going to rent quite quickly, I think.
26:18Getting rid of the boat ramp and putting the grass in here I think was a great idea.
26:22It's a bit of a play area.
26:23This is the view here. This is the $12 million view.
26:25Walk around the property and looking at, you know, pines and palms now and just kind of breathing it in.
26:32It feels like the keys.
26:35New life that has been brought back to this property.
26:38It feels familiar.
26:39Yes.
26:40And I think it'll feel familiar for a lot of people that come down and visit.
26:53The water looks nice. I'd like to jump in.
26:55I know. We could use a bit of a relaxation day.
26:59Yeah, the keys for us has always been about relaxation.
27:03And you've managed to completely ruin that.
27:06Hold on.
27:07I am not taking full accountability for that.
27:12I think we ruined it together.
27:14Yeah, a little bit.
27:15The good news is, like always, we did pull off the resort buyout.
27:20I know.
27:21I'm going to give most of the credit to you.
27:24You've essentially taken on much more of a project management role here.
27:29I'm proud of you.
27:30Thank you.
27:31And we've had so many hiccups on this.
27:34Sarah was working 15 to 18 hours a day, six, seven days a week, sourcing everything, doing the installs.
27:41But more than that, also getting involved, you know, as part project manager, dealing with the trades, dealing with the builders, dealing with the partners.
27:48And there was a lot.
27:50This was quite a symphony for her to compose.
27:53Our timeline here was much compressed and we need the time to focus on the expansion.
27:59I want to 100% focus on the Bahamas' development, on what that's going to take.
28:04Right.
28:05Is this finally the project where you realized you can't do it all?
28:12Hell no.
28:14I like to bite off more than I can chew.
28:16I also like to prove myself wrong.
28:18I always want to do more, bigger, better.
28:21I like to push myself.
28:23That's what excites me every day.
28:25That's what gets me out of bed.
28:26So, will I stop taking on these projects?
28:30No.
28:32Let's have an energy drink and just get this wrapped up.
28:36More of a margarita girl, but I'll take an energy drink.
28:39I'm down for some margaritas.
28:41Back to work.
28:42Yeah, back to work.
28:49The job is done.
28:50The hugs have gone around the circle.
28:52The high fives have happened.
28:54For me, this is exciting.
28:56So I'm like, oh, amazing.
28:59I want to get started on the next thing.
29:01Now that last 10% that Sarah, you know, flourishes in and loves is over.
29:06We can get back to...
29:08Your 10%.
29:09Digging the hole.
29:10Time to break ground somewhere else.
29:19This year, Sarah got herself a cold plunge tank.
29:21And I'm not a huge fan of freezing cold water, to be honest.
29:26But she wants to do that circuit of the cold plunge into the sauna, into the pool.
29:33So I decided to surprise her with a sauna.
29:36It's been beautiful and sunny all day.
29:39This truck shows up.
29:42The heavens have opened up.
29:44It's raining.
29:47Sarah's not at the house for a couple of days.
29:49So I want to get this thing built and installed before she gets back.
29:54I was just going to see what's in here.
29:55You're getting started, huh?
29:56Yeah, I get started a little bit.
29:58I found a great sauna company to work with.
30:01And we're going to build this beautiful modern sauna with a couple of glass walls and an outdoor shower that will be great to have in the backyard here.
30:09Like building a tiny little cedar home.
30:15Before you know it, I'll be doing the thermal circuit, yoga in the morning, Pilates in the afternoon.
30:21I mean, who knows?
30:22It's going to look good.
30:28So go ahead and pull this back.
30:30How are we doing, Ken?
30:32We're doing pretty good.
30:33It's looking, looking nice.
30:34We're good.
30:35Yeah, we've completed pretty much everything inside.
30:37I'll get out of your way.
30:38All right.
30:39Appreciate it.
30:40Thank you.
30:44With all the chaos going on in business, in life, with the kids, with parents aging, the whole thing,
30:50it's becoming more and more evident that we need to carve out time for ourselves.
30:59This way.
31:01Everybody needs some time to just namaste or whatever.
31:06You ready?
31:07I'm scared.
31:09Ta-da.
31:10Oh!
31:14Is this what I think it is?
31:15It is.
31:17Oh, my God.
31:18It's amazing.
31:20I still have a little bit to do.
31:21I got to get the rocks in the heater, get some stone down here, get the cold plunge in or shower.
31:26Oh, my God.
31:27So much to take in.
31:28This is it.
31:29It's beautiful.
31:31You like it?
31:32Yes, I like it.
31:33Thank you.
31:34Oh, you're welcome.
31:35I always wanted a hot soda.
31:37I know, just in case it gets too cold outside here.
31:41This is absolutely beautiful.
31:44Does it smell good?
31:45Yes, it smells good.
31:47It's huge.
31:49It is big.
31:50This is big enough for the family.
31:51This can fit, what?
31:52Eight people?
31:53Six people comfortably.
31:55Nice thing if we have glass over here and looking into the backyard or seeing the pool.
32:01I love where you guys have put it.
32:04I think this was the right spot.
32:05It was kind of most conducive to putting it right here.
32:08Once a few of our projects are crossed off this to-do list, I will be the first one in that sauna.
32:15This is my own little wellness sanctuary.
32:20Ma'am, did you check in with security already?
32:27I am in charge of security.
32:29Can I see your boarding pass?
32:31I am your co-pilot.
32:33Yeah.
32:34One thing Maurizio called.
32:36You know his place, Victoria Key.
32:38Maurizio's a neighbor and a good friend of mine that has a small island not too far from the hotel.
32:43He reached out to me recently because he's looking at, you know, potentially doing some development or monetizing or doing something.
32:49It could be an incredible amenity for the resort if we do some type of collab.
32:55So an extension of activities or things that we currently offer our guests you're talking about.
32:59Yeah. Or maybe it's some type of collaboration on operations.
33:03Maybe it's a partnership. Maybe it's an acquisition. I don't know.
33:05We definitely need to take a closer look at Victoria Key to see if there's some synergies between, you know, Cerule Amar and that piece of property and Maurizio and ourselves and we'll just, we'll see what happens.
33:18I know we have a million other things going on.
33:19I was just, I'm like, I'm going to bite my tongue here, but.
33:23Yeah. Yeah. Timing's never been our thing.
33:25No. Timing has never been.
33:26But it's kind of exciting. Let's go open mine. See what, see what's there.
33:30It's going to be an adventure trip. I like it.
33:32It's always, it's always an adventure.
33:34With you? Yes.
33:35South Andros is a very historical, very natural piece of, piece of land with family that have hundreds of years of history.
33:47So we think it's really important to sit down with our local staff and find out, like, what does everybody want? What are they thinking?
33:55You ladies have been with us for a number of years. For a long time.
33:58And I think, you know, you know us well, you know the staff here well, you know what we kind of went through to get this to the place that it is now.
34:06Yes.
34:07But we kind of want to know from people that we respect and trust, what are the guests asking for?
34:13They want the bar to be open a little bit longer.
34:15They want the bar to be open later.
34:17Yeah. Yeah.
34:18And then entertainment.
34:19Yes.
34:20We used to do live entertainment.
34:21I remember.
34:22In the dining room.
34:23Yeah.
34:24And I would like to bring that back.
34:25Yeah.
34:26One of the markets would be incredible, whether it's here on property or somewhere nearby, where the guests can go.
34:32And you guys know, we're like, get on the bike, go to the little artisan market and shop and explore.
34:37I think that would be great for people to do.
34:39I was thinking about doing some type of cooking class.
34:42That is good.
34:43I think that's a good idea.
34:44Would you guys be open to doing something like that?
34:45We've got a few guests.
34:46Yeah.
34:47Something like banana pancakes, the way we do it locally.
34:49Comfitters.
34:50Comfitters.
34:51Yeah.
34:52Just something simple.
34:53What's next?
34:54What should we do?
34:55What do people want us to do?
34:56We don't want to create a NASA or Fort Lauderdale or Toronto.
35:00Right.
35:01That's not what we fell in love with.
35:03I don't think that's what people want here from what we've heard.
35:05No.
35:06The island itself, what it can give back.
35:07Yes.
35:08I think that we can benefit from tourist attraction.
35:11If we have something to offer, we definitely could have more guests coming to the island.
35:16Seeing that Andres is the biggest island in Bahamas, like farming.
35:21We plan our own food.
35:23The hotel can transport, export.
35:25Export.
35:26Yes.
35:27Yeah.
35:28One of the things we're looking at is creating a co-op, farm to table, putting in the infrastructure,
35:32the wells, the machinery as a co-op that we can partner with locals on.
35:37We can produce way more food than we can consume here.
35:40Fishing too.
35:41Because we don't have a fish house or a packing house.
35:43Right.
35:44Where you can, like, if you have your stuff, you still have to send them to Nassau.
35:48Right.
35:49And I think we can draw a lot more people here as well with fishing.
35:53We do the bone fishing.
35:54Right.
35:55That's our main capital, right?
35:56Yeah.
35:57We want everyone's sort of best interests.
35:59And I know we were talking medical as well, that we feel was one of the reasons we didn't
36:05ever move forward with having young children here.
36:07Because it was a little bit worrisome without a regular doctor.
36:10Right.
36:11It's really, really lacking.
36:12We do have a lot of inquiries about younger kids.
36:15Younger kids.
36:16Yeah.
36:17It's great to know that our visions for the island are aligned with people on the island.
36:22We want to know that we're helping and doing the right thing and not showing up and doing
36:27something that isn't wanted in the neighborhood.
36:29Every time Brian and I sort of share our vision out loud, it reinforces it to one another,
36:37but also it starts to sort of grow that seed.
36:41I think for this we're, you know, there's more to it than just the bottom line.
36:47That's a long list, Brian.
36:49We have our work cut out for you.
36:51The Rusty Barge Bar and Grill is a really interesting piece of property.
37:05It's a government building down by the boat ramp and the literal Rusty Barge sitting in the water.
37:11The problem is the Rusty Barge is just a concrete wall with two tiny windows, a 12-foot gap, and then the foundation for what could be an incredible deck.
37:23Today, Quentin and Lawrence and a couple of guys from the island are getting started.
37:27So it's been sitting, we've been watching it just decay over the last eight years.
37:31We're going to pull it apart, reuse what we can.
37:35Many hands make light work.
37:37Working on the Rusty Barge, fixing things up here, you know, that kind of fits in perfectly with what we were discussing
37:43with Jaz and Nikki and Stephanie about, you know, helping out the community, everybody coming together,
37:49doing things that everyone will benefit from.
37:51The rising tide lifts all boats.
37:53You're part of the solution, or you're not.
37:57We got this a little bit.
37:59Just make sure you pull off both ends.
38:01Sixteen's on both sides, line these up on the way.
38:04Quino's had to do that.
38:05Good idea.
38:06You missed him, Lawrence.
38:07He was building decks all summer in Wellington.
38:09I need screws.
38:10I actually watched it.
38:11I get to help him with every one, but just a little bit.
38:13Learned a lot from Sarah.
38:14Yeah, you did learn a lot from Sarah.
38:16Yeah.
38:17Oh, you want a screw?
38:18A few of them.
38:19Oh, here.
38:20The piers are nice and solid.
38:21The lumber itself, I mean, nothing is square.
38:24Nothing is straight.
38:25We just have to make sure it's safe and it's entertaining and it's fun.
38:31Make sure you use this here and match the angle of these guys.
38:34Do you already have a mark there?
38:35Yeah, I've got them marked all the way across.
38:36Yeah, then we'll just use the marks.
38:38It's exciting to see Quinton growing up.
38:39It's great to see, you know, the guys on the island working.
38:42And it also means for me I can step back from that stuff a little bit and focus on other projects here.
38:52Captain Q, prepare to be boarded.
38:55Victoria Key is a small private island in the south by just a little bit north of Cyril Mar.
39:00It's owned by a good friend of ours and neighbor Maurizio.
39:03And it could be a great addition to the offering we have at Cyril Mar.
39:10Why don't you guys have some fun?
39:11Mummy and I are going to walk around and...
39:13Go free!
39:14I want to show her what the potential ideas are here.
39:17Well, I know where some sea bobs are, so...
39:19Okay.
39:20Oh, boy.
39:21Yeah, so I talked to him about CMC and Tiamo.
39:28Do you want to walk and talk?
39:29Yeah, and I was under the impression this was just his private thing.
39:34House.
39:35But he asked if I'd come over and talk.
39:38And he does have some ideas for overwater villas, for some high-end villas,
39:42and was thinking with our plans there might be room for the perfect trifecta here.
39:48When I talk about the perfect trifecta when it comes to hospitality,
39:53you know, we're looking at the older crowd of the friends and couples at Cyril Lamar,
39:58the younger families with the younger kids, you know,
40:01enjoying themselves on the back side of the south by the Tiamo.
40:05And, you know, something a little more elevated,
40:07the exclusive private reserve on Victoria Quay.
40:11He's got residences here, he's got staff residences out back.
40:15Mm-hmm.
40:16You could have your marina, I mean, look at the kids.
40:19I know.
40:20You can have people come out here for the day, do all their water,
40:24but it's almost like the cruise ship island.
40:27Look what he's got here.
40:29This is one of my favourite things.
40:30The deck?
40:31It's not a deck, it's a seaplane deck.
40:34This for me on the wellness side for retreats.
40:37Yeah.
40:38You could rent this out for yoga retreats or private weddings.
40:42Yeah.
40:43Like this would be incredible if most of the guests are at one property
40:47and this is like the wedding party here, perhaps the ceremony's on property here.
40:51Talk to a lot of friends and mentors in the business who say, you know,
40:54some say you have to focus on one thing, you can't be everything to everybody,
40:58but then, you know, other properties offer a little something for everybody.
41:02That's fine.
41:03This is pretty beautiful.
41:05Yep.
41:06It's very just naturally grown, which is gorgeous.
41:10Well, and I was thinking about you and the whole wellness and the retreat kind of thing,
41:15like what a spot for absolute privacy but serenity too.
41:21I know.
41:22You can do yoga on the seaplane deck.
41:26Looking at adding Victoria Key into this mix,
41:28we could now have that exclusive private members club that's a little bit more expensive,
41:34that's a little bit more exclusive, that has the different amenities and experiences,
41:39so that we're offering something for everybody.
41:42Wow, this is quite the view.
41:45Again, this is what we have east facing.
41:47The idea is to put overwater villas with dockage at the end.
41:52We've got deep water there that's accessible from deep water,
41:55so we can get yacht traffic in.
41:58Oh.
41:59I think this is the top-tier private island experience.
42:03Yeah.
42:04We've got the family experience.
42:06Or we're...
42:07Working on it.
42:08...work on getting the family experience,
42:10and we have the anchor, essentially.
42:12It's a really interesting concept, and we have to see where it goes.
42:17I think it's beautiful.
42:20This is where the two high-end villas would be,
42:24another two back here on the beach.
42:26Like, ultramodern, wide-open glass, that's your view.
42:30Super private beach.
42:31What do you think?
42:33The villas, the bungalows, that makes sense 100%,
42:37but there's so many other opportunities here.
42:39Yeah.
42:40Right? Like, the other side of the island,
42:42with the water sports that you could do over there.
42:44Like I said, wellness retreats.
42:46Now, as soon as there's residences,
42:48and there's people walking all over,
42:50the density is going to change the overall feel.
42:53Yeah.
42:54There's still a lot that needs to go into this,
42:55but it's going to be...
42:56Pile it on.
42:57...epic.
42:58Yeah.
42:59I think so, too.
43:00Guillermo in the back in the south bite has the lee side.
43:03We've got the sunrise on the rougher beach on the east.
43:07So everything has a little bit of flavour,
43:09and I think when you put them all together,
43:11it could be quite a fantastic meal.
43:16It's a great opportunity for us to do something
43:18for the people that lived in Driggs Hill.
43:23The Rusty Barge Bar and Grill.
43:25Many memories have been had.
43:28Classic Andra style.
43:31A very simple, small job turns into a monumental effort.
43:39We need to go around the backside of the island
43:42and really take a look at Tiano.
43:44Barefoot luxury is what you're going for.
43:47You got the barefoot, Tim.
43:49Yeah, I need some paint.
43:51There's going to be a lot of lizards in here.
43:53There's way too much work to do here for $8 million.
43:56That's my fear.
43:57This is a huge jump for both of us.
