00:00Hiya, my name's Abby and I run Nookie Beach Care here in Nookie so we clean
00:04all the beaches, create litter picking and positive vibes around Nookie's
00:10beaches. We work with the local schools which is what we're doing today by
00:13breaking down these polystyrene bodyboards that one is very dangerous
00:18for children to use but is also harming our environment on a massive scale. So
00:23we've collected them over the summer and we are now breaking them down as a big
00:26team here at Nookie Junior Academy and we're going to recycle all the different
00:30types of plastic. The main plastic that's used is polystyrene, it's EPS polystyrene
00:35so expanded polystyrene that breaks down into tiny balls and fish in the ocean
00:40and all other microorganisms will also consume them as they break down. So the
00:45kids are breaking them up, the polystyrene will be used in packaging and building
00:49blocks and the nylon covers will be given to schools and other community groups to
00:54make art.
