00:00Derbyshire traffic cops it does have warning markers for potential firearms
00:12police a thousand square miles
00:21with some of the UK's most dangerous roads
00:30now nobody's been killed out of this I don't know
00:33it's scary when stuff like this happens in life and death situations get on the
00:39ground you'll be chasing we've got runners face down yes yes successful stick
00:48around every corner great acting mate there's a new challenge for the traffic
00:56cops coming up hit-and-run drivers could be anywhere around here really walking
01:18along ruining lives he's talking at minute but it's not looking good for it leaving
01:25officers searching for the truth this vehicle's crashed one's been ejected and
01:30ended up over there treated as life-threatening until we know otherwise
01:34and on the hunt determined to track them down
01:43i'm more frightened because the children are frightened
01:56i've had a report of a serious rtc it's a head-on collision between two vehicles
02:12car on fire forgot any units that way that could attend please acknowledge na from 49 i'll be coming
02:20from chesterfield traffic cop chris wells jackson is heading towards the scene of
02:29a bad crash in the peak district it's quite an notorious stretch of road that we call the flying
02:36mile people travel down there at a high speed and normally that only really means one thing
02:41that's at the very least some serious injuries 50 mile an hour stretch of road cpr is in progress
02:52there's not many collisions that i've been to where i've heard that that's had a positive outcome
02:57so it ups the ante a little bit more for me to get there as quickly as possible
03:01we have just confirmed there's two people in their 20s both nails have now left the scene
03:06oh dear clearly there's something untoward about this collision because people have made off from it
03:12whether that's because they've realized that they potentially killed somebody or
03:16because they shouldn't be driving that vehicle or they've done it maliciously well
03:20obviously work that out the important thing at the moment is finding these outstanding suspects
03:27did we have any discrimination mid-20s white males black jackets on one had a hoodie
03:33the male with the hoodie uh on seemed injured or the male had a mustache from 49 it's pretty much
03:41in the middle of nowhere only way they can make off really is across open ground or down the main road
03:47we have just confirmed that they've left on foot as well did you say where towards
03:53yeah i'll be coming in from that direction anyway around 17 000 hit and runs are reported every year in
04:00the uk most of the hit and runs that i've attended over the years have been because the driver of
04:06the offending vehicle shouldn't have been driving for one reason or another whether that be that
04:11the drunk they're on drugs they've got no documents for that vehicle or they've stolen that vehicle or
04:16taken it without the owner's consent
04:24traffic cop andy swift is also making his way
04:27they could be anywhere around here really walking along unless they've been picked up
04:32we're coming up to it shortly so i'm just going to keep an eye out
04:38have you seen two lads walking this way or running this way at all
04:41i haven't no i've just come here to stop the traffic that's fine
04:45that's fine no problem
04:57hey thank you four nine state six the road's been closed from the chesterfield side
05:08as emergency services tend to one of the casualties chris receives an update
05:13we've got vendors from this one like the bmw going in that direction that way we've got
05:20the female passenger yeah she's deceased on the floor on the other side of the car
05:25yeah her son is the driver that lad there we've got is their dad her husband is sat in a vehicle
05:30on the other side and he doesn't know in shock i don't think he knows at the moment i'll get
05:35twisty to go to him from that side it's mother and son that was in that car and the mother's been
05:41pronounced deceased on scene you've got two vehicles very badly damaged in the road
05:46one of the vehicles is set on fire you've got ambulance staff working on the sun what's update
05:55on him is it likely going to be it's critical is it no not yet i was letting them do all the work
06:04because obviously it's a bit busy over there so um i don't know if he knows he's deceased
06:09right i'll learn i'll let them do all their work before we pass it message because i don't want
06:16him to deteriorate us knowing that i think the brother was behind them in the in the queue of
06:21traffic oh was he he might be waiting silver citron okay one of the vehicles behind the deceased
06:31vehicle was actually her husband and her other son they witnessed the collision and i don't think
06:37they've been told what's happened yet receiving swifty good they were traveling that way in a bmw
06:44electric cars traveling this way they bit each other and spun electric car set on fire received
06:50dad and brother behind him in the collision apparently witnessed it
06:55now that sends chills down your spine immediately because you think well they've just witnessed the
07:00the family die in front of them so if you can just find that family make sure they're secure because
07:04i don't want them coming down i'll try and find out witnesses this side i've got local with me as
07:07well yeah no worries do you know that husband turned up he's in the backlog of traffic i think he's in a
07:13bit of shock because he knows there's been a collision i don't think he knows she's deceased so my
07:17colleague's going to go to him now i'm sure they don't come down to scene and obviously we'll get them
07:21some support as soon as we can having spoken to the husband and son of the deceased woman
07:26andy updates chris are they aware of her yet yeah she wants to hold them all right okay
07:37they're just out on a on a trip out from the holiday cottage to stay now in matlock and next
07:42thing you know the life changed and it has changed that's it now forever it's flipped on its head
07:48they'll never be the same again okay drivers there he's in critical condition pelvic injuries he's talking
07:54at minute but it's not looking good for him he's not aware yet of what's mother so
08:02the dad of the family is just processing what's happened his other son's on the phone speaking to
08:08other family members trying to notify them of what's happened and for them to be able to do that after
08:13what they've just witnessed is incredible because if it was me on the other side
08:17i'd be a mess i'd be an absolute wreck with the casualty in a critical condition his brother looks
08:26on the family members at the other side have been made aware of the deceased which is
08:35sad and they're getting some support from specialist officers get a family liaison
08:40officer appointed to him shortly as the ambulance leaves chris speaks to witnesses there's anyone
08:47who actually witnessed it firsthand then i was in the tt at the front it was over he overtook me okay
08:55oh he's overtook at the point of collision right is yours the audi with dash cam is it yeah it's not
09:02every day that you go out about your daily business and see something like that to us we see it all
09:10too often but to a member of the public that doesn't have any exposure to that sort of incident or death
09:18it's just horrific
09:21with suspicions of a hit and run confirmed crash detective sergeant craig walker and a forensics team
09:27arrive and the focus turns to gathering evidence i'm faced with one of the most horrific scenes i've ever
09:43been to
09:47it's what we're trained to do but nonetheless you know that that is just going to start a chain of
09:52events for a family that is going to change their lives forever coming up can i see you yeah crash
10:04investigators identify some shocking evidence we've got bm coming out to the side overtaking
10:10and the manhunt is on to find the driver we've got one detained so when you've lost ceiling then
10:16you're saying he's run off which way that way could be anywhere
10:22it's going to be in that direction in the peak district there's been a tragic head-on collision
10:34leaving one fatality the female passenger yeah she's deceased her son is the driver and a 22 year old
10:45fighting for his life dad and brother behind him in the collision apparently in a silver citron
10:50i've witnessed it witnesses allege a hit and run
10:55it was always always overtook me okay station to the front of him oh he's overtook at the point of
11:02collision right and the hunt is on for two runaway suspects
11:11traffic cop chris wells jackson is searching for evidence to corroborate the witnesses statements
11:16the dash cam footage from the family members vehicle and from the audio hopefully going to give
11:22us the right answers and the right evidence to make sure that these people are found we've got bm coming
11:27out to the other side yeah overtaking yeah can i see it yeah yeah chris and crash detective sergeant
11:35craig walker examine footage from the car of the deceased woman's husband who was traveling in the car
11:41behind it's the last clip on there and then he turns his car see the offending vehicle go out for an
11:46overtake and then it collides with the deceased
11:56it's a case of a bad overtake bad judgment the footage all points to the bmw being at fault it's
12:04been a complete head-on collision at probably 40 50 miles per hour and obviously the impact was
12:11devastating he's gone for an overtake that simply isn't on and has absolutely shattered the family
12:22that's the one from the audi that's been overtook by the bmw
12:26hopefully it'll show us i'm running off and all that's the passenger that he's the one on the left
12:31hand side of the vehicle walking straight up in all dark clothing at the back of the bmw
12:37the driver slips away it shows the two offenders getting out of the bmw walking straight past his
12:43dash cam which is brilliant because it shows us who's getting out of that driver's seat and gives
12:48us a brilliant clothing description at the moment we've got several units looking for them obviously
12:55we'll have to try and identify the drivers at the time and try and work out why they made off
13:00whether that's because they're intoxicated whether it's because they've not got the right
13:03documents for driving that vehicle whether it's stolen there is a reason that that person has run off
13:09i think he's gone back that way hasn't he he went back left i think down there
13:16nearby officers searching the area come across a suspect
13:20where's your mate gone then went other way what do you mean like other way uh no i know that that
13:28way's towards chesterfield but he got hold of me so if you see my name i'll kill you i'll come and get
13:32you then he ran other way so he's gone down there yeah that way yeah and i'm like thanks we'll get to
13:35the road before i get home because we've got one detained for me i'm just having a look at the footage
13:42to see if you can identify the offenders from the vehicle like the driver has watched some sort of
13:47dark top and grey bottom that's what it is dark coat and grey bottom yeah mate what's the description
13:53of you all had we're just looking at the dash cam footage that's all uh yeah two four mate
14:03and we're going flat out in this car then he's overtook on the hill soon he's gone to right inside
14:07that road he's slammed the brakes on he's crashed in the car he's jumped out he started running off
14:12somebody else is where are you going the people in the other car says where's he going they thought
14:15i were the driver so they're coming to get hold of me they've realized he's the driver they've left
14:19me so when you've lost ceiling then you're saying he's run off which way yeah that way we've got one
14:24detained got who we believe the passenger detained but the driver really is the uh the vital person
14:30we need to get hold of soon as so we're doing as best we can to identify who they are and then
14:35obviously we'll link it with any forensic opportunities from the vehicle which hopefully
14:38tie it in nicely and get some justice for this family the deal that they've gone through today
14:44to think they'll be all right i just need to get away before i get caught and to not think i should
14:51go and check and see how they are it's inhumane all they think about is self-preservation
14:58while the forensics team look for more clues to identify the driver yeah just see what rti can
15:06do what the neighbors say it's now nearly an hour since the collision and there's still no sign of
15:11the runaway he could be anywhere here looks like the driver has got some sort of black paint yeah that's
15:17what looks like they have just looking at it zoomed in it's a bit difficult at distance as the dash cam
15:24comes up to it because there's smoke everywhere but the driver has got that rad puffer style jacket on
15:31it's just about finding him early so we can obviously match things like clothing up to him and
15:35things like that that he's been wearing at the time of the collision
15:40you look at it as similar to a murder investigation because ultimately this chap's killed somebody
15:54with the suspect still on the run craig's back at base reviewing more footage
16:05we've got some cctv of them walking away down the lane which shows them together so that points
16:10is in the right direction then was a case of good old-fashioned detective work boots on the ground
16:16knocking on doors speaking to people to try and identify them
16:21news comes in that the deceased woman's 22-year-old son has also died we've got a family of four who
16:30came down on holiday and only two have gone home there develops a determination to get this person
16:37across the whole team you can only run so far we will find you
16:43it's sunday night and sometimes that the roads are quiet but it can be busy up to a point depending
17:00what events are on and the fact that the motorway is busy officers like pc paul barker deal with around
17:0830 000 injuries on the roads every year and 12 of those are caused by runaway drivers
17:14majority of time people who leave the scene of a collision are trying to hide what's happened that
17:19they're not insured or they've been drinking or sometimes because they've panicked and they've
17:24got a concussion or they just try and get away because they don't know what they're doing
17:27we're getting a report of a rtc from an a is there anyone that can start making the way please south
17:36of derby paul's responding to a suspicious crash well we're off to a uh report of a serious collision
17:42involving a vehicle where somebody's been ejected and they believe one person's still missing all rp you
17:49were turning out to it because it's a serious collision we're sending a drone down there and we're
17:55attending such the scene and see what the injuries are on two stage six
18:05as paul arrives colleagues and emergency services are already on the scene so it's just the one
18:11vehicle and we've got one of the occupants so we don't know with driver's passenger in the ambulance
18:15at the minute being seen too yeah what votes have they ended up to show you yeah yeah right okay we
18:24couldn't see him at that stage they've trampled all that down right okay you could see with sort
18:27of the heads there and their legs sticking up right okay i think that's part of his clothing
18:34the person found by the side of the road may have been ejected from the vehicle
18:38there's a report of somebody running away from the area so the main concerns is treatment and then
18:44trying to find out if he was the driver or the passenger
18:47the seat belt is locked so if anybody has been sat in that seat they've not been wearing a seat belt
18:59that's locked and that so that hasn't been worn either
19:03i think you might have come out through the back
19:05and there's a trail of blood as though somebody's crawled out to that rear window
19:11i've dealt with a lot of people that have been rejected from vehicles and if you don't wear your
19:15seat belt you're more likely to be ejected from it and you're more likely to go through a small
19:19window in which case you're looking at very serious injuries if not death while paul investigates
19:26the crash there's an update on the casualty they're life-changing life-threatening we don't know
19:32because he's initially when we were in the ditch he was complaining of no injuries because he's talking
19:36he was talking yeah he's not meaning like is he talking lucidly no he's not very strong with
19:41cannabis yeah and also the car stinks of cannabis yeah um he sort of flints in and out so whether
19:47that's okay the adrenaline or the shocking situation yeah with suspicions that the man could be the
19:53driver the officers need to check him for alcohol and drugs did the business need to do roadside
19:59procedure or not nothing he's going to get worse so we're not going to be able to do this here
20:05right we're going to queens okay uh i think some things he's going more and more unwell so i think
20:13jay is life-threatening until we know otherwise yeah he's going to go to queen's medical which is a
20:19major trauma hospital as the casualties taken away for treatment the focus turns to the search for the
20:26suspected runaway okay so two is going up with the drain it's urgent to find anybody else that
20:38been in that vehicle they might be seriously injured and they might be life-threatening injuries that
20:43they've sustained people can be thrown quite a significant distance from fast moving vehicles
20:48if when they hit something it's been fine there so that's passenger been found there or somebody has we
20:55don't know if he's a passenger or the driver but somebody has whoever's in there has been found
20:58there so it's possible he's in that field
21:05look at the escape because the car's absolutely yeah it's we could have crawled out but nobody's
21:11seen exactly exactly yeah we're just down now we're going to go to start searching the areas
21:16there's a shell we'll go to shell and willington railway station yeah see if anybody's disheveled down there
21:25we're not actually sure that anybody else has been in the vehicle it's just been the driver but we'll
21:31see he's been coming this way and is it is it something on that side which is causing to flip
21:36over and he's ended up over there so he's either crawled there or he's been ejected there we don't know
21:44we have to search just to make sure that there's anybody in the fields nearby drivers might turn around
21:48and say that they're doing with somebody that's sometimes because they've got head injuries and
21:53they're confused but we've still got to double check whether somebody's in the fields injured and they'll
21:59be able to show for help unless there's someone independent person can say no there's only one
22:03person in that vehicle while the search continues paul speaks to a witness the focus was in front of me
22:13yeah and in front of that there was another car i couldn't tell you what it was yeah which was
22:17about here yeah um then there was folks milling about and i saw somebody was was pointing into
22:25here so i got out my van down there come up and saw that there was a lad in there so i said i'll
22:29bring my van up and shine my lights okay so i i've just abandoned that here yeah i'm a light so they
22:34could see what they were doing okay yeah oh that's fine have somebody take your details yes right okay
22:39yeah if you want to turn around and go back that way excellent i think the drone's coming down now
22:47i can't can't find anybody so the dog's been out had a look can't find anybody the drone's been up
22:54had a look can't find anybody at some point we're going to call off the search for anybody lying in
23:00the hedge or anything in this weather and this temperature any kind of heat source should be
23:05found by the drone and the dog should have found anybody as well and he's not found anybody fellow
23:11traffic cop dave shore arrives with an update from the hospital the driver is now a little bit more
23:16conscious than he was at the hospital he's now stated that he was the only one in the car just him just
23:21the driver nobody else was in the vehicle so that would suggest that he's got himself out the vehicle
23:25whether it's climbing out the window or getting out the back window or what which is all smashed
23:29the flood on the driver's side of the vehicle which indicates that there was only the driver in the
23:35vehicle at the time of the collision and that he'd actually crawled out of the vehicle and not been
23:39ejected if you've been wearing a seat belt it would have prevented him from receiving such serious
23:46injuries wear your seat belt it will save your life coming up yes yes right clear around the back
23:57guys on the back of the property the net closes in yeah yeah go ahead yeah go ahead on the runaway
24:03driver suspected of killing two people then i can just remember seeing car bang grass
24:15and another hit and run and i was like i'm ringing the police you don't need the police you don't need
24:19the police puts innocent lives at risk when somebody's crashed into you and you've got children in the car it's
24:25it's just panic
24:39we've got bm coming out to the side yeah overtaken following a head-on hit and run collision which
24:46killed a mother and son the family members at the other side have been made aware of the deceased
24:52one suspect was arrested where's your mate gone then went all the way but another believed to be the
25:01driver remains at large i'm just having a look at the footage to see if we can identify the offenders
25:07from the vehicle two days later there's a breakthrough for crash detective sergeant craig walker we get
25:20given a name and that then leads us to an individual who lives in sheffield the address is 30 miles
25:30away from where we are so we have to get there quick all the time when you're driving there you're
25:34thinking hope we get there in time hope we get there in time hope we get there in time because you
25:39don't want to turn up and they're not there
25:46as the teams surround the address
25:48you can't go over here right clear around the back got eyes on the back of the property
25:53craig and colleagues force their way into the property yes yes
26:04yeah go ahead yeah go ahead we're going to search the address for some clothing
26:08all right yeah yeah so what what areas the house do you have access to
26:12oh those are the locks you have to look in kitchen where's all your clothes where we're
26:17going to get your clothes you want us to get you some socks in that way yeah they'll be in kitchen
26:21in kitchen right you got some gloves now all right so we've got shoes yeah there then they're
26:27actually wet through yeah they were under that unit there they were what you were wearing all right
26:34you got gray joggers on there yeah damn the clothing visually matches the clothing on the cctv we have
26:41for the driver they're the trackies they're wet the fact that they are extremely wet two days after
26:50the collision support that these were the clothes he was wearing at the time it was a rainy day the
26:56fields were wet if you've gone through any hedgerows or grass you will have got wet through
27:00so i'm fairly confident that that is our guy
27:05so if that's your shoes that you're wearing what coat are you wearing
27:09i don't know if i can't have
27:11may as well look should i yeah
27:14see that one there
27:18yeah that's damp
27:18the suspects taken into police custody he did show some genuine remorse towards the deceased
27:38he realized he said to me in the car ruined some lives i've ruined people's lives
27:43with the driver finally caught craig's focus turns to building a case of causing death by dangerous
27:51driving getting an arrest is not it's not the end of the job it's not the finish you're not even at
27:57the halfway point you've still got a lot a lot of work to do
28:00first craig prepares the cctv evidence what is in question is the matter of due care and dangerous
28:12if you're convicted of a charge of death by dangerous the sentencing powers are far greater than
28:17due care we've got various clips of cctv from various locations around chesterfield and walton
28:24so we can piece together the movements of the bmw on the morning of the collision
28:37so you can sell this dash cavi mile and a half short of the collision site you've got the car
28:41come flying past on the outside so he's already overtaking he's driving aggressively and it just
28:46shows you his mindset of driving that this isn't a one-off slight error of judgment you can clearly
28:50see that he's breaking the speed limit he's overtaking cars where it's not really safe to
28:55you can see here that there is a car oncoming that he only just gets back in in front of and narrowly
29:02avoids a collision there so we have got that continual behavior which puts you in the realm of dangerous
29:08driving you've got extra speed in the lead up to it plus 70 miles an hour and a 50 it just shows
29:14it's a driver not paying attention to the road let's do it look oh that's not way to uh manage
29:21it i don't think you've got a member of the public there just giving a open opinion at that moment in
29:26time about the level of driving that that bmw drive is showing the shock by it
29:33so we go further on you can see there is starting those two headlights are starting to edge out towards
29:38the middle when you see the overtake as soon as it pulls out you know it's not there's no physical
29:45way once he gets level with that car on his inside that this collision can then be avoided
29:53you just you watch it wishing you could be there screaming at him saying no don't do it don't do it
29:58you wish you could freeze time and change time but you can't you you just sit in a horror because for
30:04a split second you know what's going to happen um and then it's just horrific when it when it does
30:19you hear the moment in his voice when the father from the the other car realizes that there's been a
30:23collision and and the sheer panic
30:27it's just horrendous to hear the voices of the dad and his son
30:33in that car as the collision occurs
30:38it it'll never leave me
30:50in police custody officers interview the two runaway suspects starting with the passenger
30:56he's blasting up through walton he's dropping it down into sport mode saying oh it's right
31:00wrapping this car yeah like acceleration off then he's booting it again it's so how fast do you
31:07think you're going along that flying mile 60 70 easy man it was that sound like we're in an
31:11airplane we've just gone over that brow there and he's just locked up so we've just slid all
31:15way into the bottom why did it happen reckless driving by who by the driver and he ran up the
31:20road why because he's kicking off shy screaming we know come come we can't stay we can't stay we can't
31:24stay if you don't come with me i'm gonna send someone to your house to stab you up you better
31:27keep your mouth shut who said that him to me so that's when i ran
31:30the driver is next to be interviewed do i have to protect this car and i can remember clearly
31:40thinking to myself plenty of times go around this car and as i've gone to go around it they'd sped up
31:45yeah and i just slammed on on my brakes on and thought i'd try to get back in yeah then i can just
31:52remember seeing car bang crash if it went for car speeding up or was overtaking it none of that would
32:00have actually happened got out car seeing just loads of people then i blow up screaming and shouting
32:08asking was driving and then she went off i was scared okay can i just remember walking walking
32:20through a field and an old bloke stopped to give me a lift okay he's effectively blaming the weather
32:28saying that the car locked up it's skidded because of the water but it doesn't really hold true what he's
32:34done is he's not looked so he says he thought it was clear clearly it wasn't because the victim's
32:39car was on the other side of the road coming he also tries to pin some blame on the vehicle he was
32:44overtaking right not a good watch the issue for that is that we've got footage from the dash cam that
32:50shows that the other car didn't speed up didn't alter its speed at all and the accident is absolutely
32:57down to to this person's standard of driving with a large volume of cctv and dash cam evidence the
33:09driver is being charged with causing death by dangerous driving our hope is that it reaches a
33:15conclusion at court where our victims family feel that some level of justice has been served because
33:22we'll never be able to give them what they really want which is the loved ones back
33:29coming up let's come out the car two males have run off from this golf with no insurance another hit
33:36and run suspect leaves a family in distress i'm more frightened because the children are frightened
33:52one zero good reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles yes i can go to that
34:06traffic cop rich morris is heading to the scene of an accident two vehicle rtc i think they're both
34:12arguing about whose fault it is unfortunately accidents do happen and nobody's ever gonna win
34:19by arguing at the scene of an rtc only like that so we'll get there
34:27tango one zero i'm state six and searching in fact i'm state six now
34:35i can see there's a lady on the grass verge and she's got her arms around these two children
34:40at the side of her and she's quite animated who was in this car she tells me that two guys that
34:51were in this red golf have run off across fields i came off the phone to the first piece but i made
34:56a second one to say that ran off right everybody involved in road traffic collision has got a duty of
35:03care to stop at the scene and exchange details as a bare minimum and obviously everybody's got a moral
35:09and civic duty to ensure that other people are all right as well haven't they guys they've got a two
35:14vehicle rtc here two males have run off from this uh golf anywhere up near bowls over shyborough i can't
35:20give you an estimated town arrival at the moment we've got no units to attend they've gone off over
35:25fields i i think if we haven't got anybody in the area at the moment it's gonna be too late i've asked
35:30for divisional police and a drone as well but there's nobody available so what's happened then
35:38i'm actually sat at the red chocolate lights on the other side of the room yeah coming this way now i'm
35:41going towards you're looking to go that way yeah it's come flying around the corner there's only clipped
35:47the windmower but took it clean off see your skid marks yeah yeah and he's come at right speed and
35:54it's ended up there right i've just come around as soon as he's done it to say hey you've hit me
35:59yeah but it's before i've known that he's in the ditch right and he's come out the car
36:05and i was like i'm ringing the police you don't need the police you don't need the police i'm
36:08insured i'm insured i'm getting your help as well as me helping my children and he was just on and
36:13on and all of a sudden he's pegged it across there there's two of them yeah i'm more frightened
36:18because the children are frightened all right that's all right my wound is still up the road
36:21you'll see it all right you just panic when somebody's crashed into you ran off and you've
36:28got children in the car it's just panic it's not right fair on the children not seven years old it's
36:35it's not fair at the end of the day everybody's safe aren't you i've got someone coming to pick them
36:41up right okay well you could take your car you'll be all right you'll be able to drive off
36:44they were that frightened i didn't know how long i was going i know you know but you'll be able to
36:48go in a minute if i'll get some details from you and you'll be able to go on your way that's all right
36:52and i'll sort everything else out hey tango one zero okay need recovery for this golf please um
36:58it's locked you have to question why do we think the driver's run off if he's got nothing to hide
37:04why is he run off i've run the vehicle through police national computer
37:08uh no no insurance hold on the vehicle he's saying he is how do you know he's saying he is
37:15when he was talking he was shouting abuse at me when i was on the first i don't i don't think he
37:19is insured no being involved in the road traffic collision is upsetting anyway because there's
37:24massive inconvenience you've got to go through the insurance premiums going up you don't appreciate
37:30how much you rely on a motor vehicle until it's taken off the road it does cause people stress and we
37:37get that he's swore blind he was insured gave me a load of abuse and then of course it's revealed
37:42it's unfair really unfair it's not why should we be out of pocket so then that's what we deal with
37:48nowadays isn't it people want to drive like idiots cause this kind of damage it's obviously not stolen
37:54because they've managed to lock it up and they've got the keys for it smaller than me both of them
38:02the driver had a hat on right okay i'm just petrified that i've never been involved in it
38:07i know and you just will you be all right driving do you think yeah i'll be fine it's the children
38:11they've just done the church christmas nativity can we come for a ride yeah no problem this lady's
38:17phoned her friend who's turned up and taken both children away in her car don't forget your seatbelts
38:23kids that lady really upset kids in the car fortunately for it's only a wing mirror but
38:30it's still really upsetting for the kids and that she's at the side of the road all upset and it's
38:34just it's just a nightmare but then you've got people driving around in rubbish cars exceeding the
38:41speed limit it's a recipe for disaster so to be honest i'm glad it's another one off the road and
38:47he's not having it back till i find out who was driving it so yeah it's my car for a bit now
38:55research shows that uninsured drivers are more likely to commit a hit and run
39:01there is a trail and somebody needs to take responsibility and accountability for it
39:05or they won't end up with the car back at all it's a bit difficult however we'll send out some
39:11notice of intended prosecution to the register keeper see where that takes us
39:16the car will be recovered to the depot until the runaway driver claims it obviously got no pride
39:21in his car as well and there's a baseball bat in the passenger side it's a bad day at the office for
39:28driver this car today i'd say some significant front end damage i'd suggest it's a write-off
39:36at dark muddy field there's a couple of people out there cold and muddy and lost a few quid
39:40have they got any sympathy from me no they haven't
39:51back at base rich is determined to track the owner down i've done some research on our intelligence
39:58database and found a telephone number for this chap he said he was scared and this lady who was
40:04upset trying to look after two kids at the roadside and that's why him and his friend have
40:08run off through muddy fields the a felt intimidated i've sent a notice of intended prosecution to that
40:15person he never replied so he can expect a very large fine hundreds of pounds and a minimum of six
40:24points on his license for not sending that form back driving this golf thought he's being clever by
40:31being on his toes and running away from the scene but we get there one way or the other
40:43when hit and runs happen an estimated 90 of the drivers responsible are never tracked down you get
40:52road collisions where somebody has just made a ridiculous decision they've then ultimately killed
40:58somebody whether intentional or not and then they've not even got the morals to stay behind
41:04accept their action they'd rather just run away and hide from it and hope that they never get caught
41:10why would you leave the scene of an accident you're guilty of something aren't you they're either
41:16off the red food drink or drugs or they've committed a road traffic offense hearing that
41:21somebody's made off from a scene does make you angry knowing you've been in an accident with
41:25somebody surely your next thought must be as a decent human being it's going to try and help that
41:30person sadly there's a small proportion of society who put themselves above everybody else it's not
41:35about others it's not about caring for people it's about self-preservation
41:44in this episode is it something on that side which is causing to flip over and he's ended up over there the
41:51driver who was found ejected from his car spent over a month in a coma due to his injuries
41:56it's life-threatening until we know otherwise he has since been discharged from hospital he's now
42:02stated that he was the only one in the car no action has been taken against the driver for any offences
42:08who was the runaway golf driver who crashed his car after colliding with a young mum and her daughters
42:19come out the car and i was like i'm ringing the police you don't need the police you don't need
42:23the police has been reported to court on summons for failing to comply with a notice of intended
42:28prosecution another one off the road and he's not having it back till i find out who was driving it so
42:34yeah it's my car for a bit now if prosecuted at court he'll receive a minimum of six points
42:40and up to a thousand pound fine talking he was shouting abuse at me when i was on the first
42:45i don't i don't think he is insured no despite not claiming on her insurance the woman's insurers
42:51informed her that her next year's premium will be higher because she's been involved in a collision
42:56just like acceleration off any booting it again and the passenger who left the scene of the alleged
43:05hit-and-run collision in the peak district if you don't come with me i'm going to send someone to
43:09your house to stand before who said that him to me so that's when i ran was not charged with any
43:14offenses and was released without action we're going to search the address for some clothing all
43:20right you've got gray joggers on there yeah down the driver responsible for the tragic death of a
43:28mother and son was charged with causing death by dangerous driving if it went for a car speeding up
43:36or was overtaking no that would what's happened he was sentenced to 13 years in prison
43:42and it was rough i was scared and disqualified from driving for 10 years
