00:00ICE investigation leads to over 100 arrests in Texas.
00:05Federal authorities arrested more than 120 undocumented drivers in Houston last week
00:09during a single-day immigration and customs enforcement operation,
00:13targeting individuals allegedly exploiting a loophole that allows non-citizens to register vehicles in Texas.
00:20ICE officials said the effort was aimed at keeping Texas roads safer
00:23by removing dangerous, often unlicensed and uninsured illegal aliens
00:28who should not be behind the wheel.
00:30The arrests are part of the Trump administration's broader push
00:33to strengthen immigration enforcement and public safety.
00:37The operation has sparked political attention in Austin.
00:40Republican State Representative Brian Harrison sent a letter to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles
00:45demanding answers on how individuals without legal immigration status are registering vehicles.
00:51The Texas government should be a force multiplier of President Trump's efforts to combat illegal immigration,
00:56not enabling or incentivizing it, Harrison wrote.
01:00It is past time the Texas government starts acting like we are in a battle
01:04for the future of Western civilization.
01:07Harrison's letter asked whether the DMV verifies legal presence before issuing vehicle registrations.
01:14He warned that if action isn't taken swiftly,
01:16he will propose legislation requiring citizenship or lawful status checks for all registrations.
01:21The issue isn't new.
01:24ICE has previously targeted drivers using commercial licenses from states such as California,
01:29alleging some were obtained fraudulently or without proper residency verification.
01:34Officials say these investigations were prompted by several highway accidents involving non-domiciled truck drivers.
01:40Both ICE and Harrison's office confirmed that additional investigations are ongoing.
01:45The Texas DMV has yet to release a statement.
01:47As scrutiny intensifies, state officials could face growing pressure to tighten registration rules
01:53and address concerns about illegal driving and public safety across Texas.
