00:00The threats of arrest. I'm sorry.
00:02Do you fear any of the threats of arrest?
00:05No, no, and that would be these two.
00:07See what I'm saying?
00:08That would be these two.
00:09These two will actually get fined.
00:12Yes. Good afternoon, everyone.
00:14I'm State Representative Anna Hernandez,
00:16and this is my colleague, Representative Armando Wally.
00:18We are both members of the Texas House
00:20from Houston, Texas.
00:22And to answer your questions, yes, the $500
00:24a day fines are already
00:25being assessed. They will not be paid until
00:27if and when we return.
00:30So that is not what we are concerned about.
00:32And we have not fled the state.
00:33And I do want to take this moment and say thank you
00:35to Governor Healy and the Secretary of State.
00:37Thank you for welcoming us. Thank you for the support.
00:40Because that is what we are in search of.
00:42As we left the state,
00:45it was to make sure
00:46that our constituents have a voice.
00:48Because that's what this process is doing.
00:50It's silencing our constituents, and we will not stand for it.
00:52What about the threats of arrest or expulsion?
00:54There have been civil arrests,
00:56civil warrants that have been filed that they don't have jurisdiction
00:58beyond the state.
00:59So that's why we have traveled outside of the state of Texas.
01:03Armando Wally,
01:04the price to pay pales into comparison
01:07to the rights of everyday people,
01:11everyday constituents that we represent proudly.
01:13It's not scared.
01:17Not scared at all.
01:19Come and take it.
01:19Are those fines only for House members?
01:21Or is it both House and Senate?
01:22House members.
01:22The House has separate rules.
01:24Does the Senate face any financial repercussions?
01:27No.
01:27Not currently.
01:28Not yet.
01:29The way the House...
01:31So the fines are in response to the last redistricting...
01:36Or the last quorum break that occurred in 2021.
01:39The House changed the rules to force us back
01:43and to prevent us to try to leave again...
01:45To punish us.
01:46To punish those members that are using
01:48the parliamentary procedures that are in place
01:51that we've used for over 100 years.
01:53You can use your campaign funds.
01:57These have to come out of your personal finances.
02:01Governor, thank you, everyone.
