00:00Prepared pasta sold at major grocers recalled, says Report.
00:04A nationwide listeria outbreak connected to ready-to-eat pasta meals has worsened,
00:08with 27 confirmed cases across 18 states, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
00:15As of October 30, 25 people have been hospitalized and 6 have died,
00:20with fatalities reported in Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, Oregon, Texas, and Utah.
00:25One case also involved a pregnancy-related illness that resulted in fetal loss.
00:31The outbreak was first detected earlier this year when the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service
00:36found listeria in a sample of Fresh Realms' Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo.
00:40A later test on the company's beef meatball linguine marinara uncovered the same listeria strain,
00:46prompting a broader investigation.
00:48Testing traced the contamination to pasta supplied by Nate's Fine Foods Incorporations,
00:53a company that provides pre-cooked pasta to various food brands.
00:57Nate's Fine Foods has since expanded its recall to include multiple pasta varieties,
01:02fettuccine, linguine, and farfalle,
01:05after additional samples tested positive for listeria monocytogenes.
01:09The company is working with the FDA to help partner brands identify and recall affected products.
01:15Recalls now include items sold under major grocery chains,
01:19such as Trader Joe's, Kroger, Sprouts, Walmart, Giant Eagle Albertsons, and Home Chef.
01:26Impacted meals include pasta salads and prepared dishes like Trader Joe's Cajun-style chicken fettuccine Alfredo
01:33and Walmart's market-side linguine with beef meatballs.
01:36Health officials warn that the true number of infections may be higher since many mild cases go unreported.
01:42Listeriosis poses the greatest risk to pregnant women, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals.
01:50Consumers are urged to discard any recalled products and sanitize surfaces that may have come into contact with them.
01:57The CDC, FDA, and FSIS continue to monitor the outbreak and coordinate efforts to protect public health.
