00:01Asia must strike a balance between economic growth and environmental ambition
00:06to ensure development that is inclusive, enduring and truly sustainable.
00:11ESG reporting is becoming mandatory and investors are demanding greater transparency and accountability.
00:18While these trends raise the bar for all organisations,
00:22they also present Asia with a significant opportunity
00:26By embedding sustainability at the very heart of business strategy,
00:31we can unlock new pathways into green economy.
00:35To navigate the path to net-zero while sustaining economic vibrancy,
00:40we must be strategic, inclusive and grounded in local realities.
00:46Chang said this during his keynote address at the Asia ESG Summit 2025,
00:51organised by star media group SMG in partnership with Saim Darby Property,
00:55as the urban biodiversity partner.
00:58He said that to achieve sustainable progress,
01:00global sustainability goals must be localised,
01:03supported by the empowerment of science, technology and innovation, STI,
01:08to drive growth in renewable energy, green materials and digital innovation.
01:13He also emphasised the importance of stronger public-private partnerships,
01:17noting that his ministry continues to work with investors, researchers
01:21and enterprises across Asia to scale impactful solutions.
01:25Star Media Group Group CEO Chan Seng-Fat said the inaugural Asia ESG Summit
01:30reflects the trust placed in the company to spearhead a regional platform
01:34for meaningful dialogue and collaboration on sustainability.
01:37Well, I see it as a perfect coincidence and timely extension of the ASEAN Summit, so to speak.
01:46Because in the ASEAN Summit, the theme is inclusivity and sustainability,
01:51which is very much in line with our ESG principles and beliefs.
01:56And in our today summit, we get a role of all the petitioners, stakeholders and executors,
02:03you know, to make sure that these particular topics are in good hands
02:09to progress and execution will be implemented according to what we wanted to see.
02:17Saim Darby Property Sustainability General Manager Dr. Yasmin Rasit,
02:21who spoke on fostering resilient communities, the Saim Darby Property Approach,
02:25said she hopes Asia will lead in urban biodiversity by 2030 to create more liveable cities.
02:31I think resilience is very important and I think it will continue to be a very important topic moving forward.
02:40You're talking about the resilience of the environment, businesses and how we find that sweet spot, right,
02:47between development growth and ensuring that we, you know, minimize as much impact as we can to nature.
02:54Seventy percent of world population will be in cities. Cities will be so stressed, it will be extremely hot.
02:59Making sure green spaces continue to exist in between us is very, very important.
03:05It's not just so that we live in a lower temperature environment,
03:11but think about the mental health aspects as well of what green spaces serve for us.
03:16A key highlight of the summit was the Leadership Dialogue Panel, featuring Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Maria Angela A. Ponce
03:23and Australian High Commission Regional Climate Councillor Ashley Brosnan.
03:28Organize this conference. It's really important because it, you know, it brings together, as you say, you know,
03:34stakeholders from three countries, three major countries in ASEAN.
03:38And so by having a forum where we can listen to each other and then learn, you know, what's happening on your end of the fence
03:45and what's happening on our end of the fence and how can we, you know, make what we're doing, you know, work together or coordinate.
03:51Regardless of any sort of efforts to achieve Net Zero, we need to ensure that communities are involved, that no one is left behind.
04:01And those whose livelihoods a community is supported by, say, fossil fuels, that we ensure that we have frameworks in place
04:11and the sort of community-led solutions in place to ensure that people are able to benefit from the transition.
04:20The Asia ESG Summit 2025 runs from November 5th to 7th at Sunway Resort Hotel, marking the launch of the A-Epic Summit,
04:28a collaboration between SMG, KG Media and the Enquirer Group to drive sustainable progress across Asia.
