he US White House on Nov 4 expressed confidence in the administration's legal arguments regarding President Donald Trump's tariff policies, emphasising their necessity for national security and economic leverage.
The Supreme Court is expected to begin on Nov 5 hearing the legality of the tariffs, which impose costs on foreign imports and are central to Trump's economic strategy.
00:00Good afternoon everybody. Nice to see you on this beautiful fall afternoon.
00:30Big day in the Supreme Court tomorrow with President Trump's tariff policy facing a legal challenge.
00:35What's at stake with that case and if the Supreme Court were against the Trump administration, what is Plan B for trade policy?
00:42I'll tell you the White House is always preparing for Plan B.
00:45It would be imprudent of the President's advisors not to prepare for such a situation.
00:50With that said, we are 100% confident in the President and his team's legal argument and the merits of the law in this case.
00:59And we remain optimistic that the Supreme Court is going to do the right thing.
01:03The importance of this case cannot be overstated. The President must have the emergency authority to utilize tariffs.
01:10Look at what President Trump has been able to do with the leverage and the power of tariffs.
01:15He's been able to sign peace deals all over the world and end global conflicts and literally save lives.
01:21He's been able to bring in trillions of dollars of investments into our country.
01:26In fact, this year alone, we are going to cut the deficit by $600 billion, namely because of the President's effective use of tariffs.
01:37And the President strongly believes that economic security is a matter of national security.
01:42And tariffs have a lot to do with that.
01:44And this case is not just about President Trump.
01:47It's about the use of this emergency authorization for tariffs for future presidents and administrations to come.
01:53And we're confident and hopeful that the Supreme Court will do the right thing.
01:57Thank you, Caroline.
01:59Why did the President decide not to go to the Supreme Court tomorrow?
02:02He had indicated earlier that he might want to go and attend in person.
02:05Yeah.
02:06And now he's saying he's not going to go. Why?
02:07The President did have an interest in attending the Supreme Court hearing tomorrow, as I just expressed how important it is to him, the administration and the country, this case.
02:16But he is traveling to Miami tomorrow, as you all know, to give an economic address with the mayor of Miami and many global business leaders to talk about his historic success with the economy over the past 10 months.
02:28And talk about sort of where we are headed as a country in terms of our economy.
02:33So he'll be traveling tomorrow on the road in Miami.
02:36That's why he won't be here.
02:37But Secretary Scott Besant will be in attendance at the hearing tomorrow at the request of the President.
