00:00And at the top of this hour, we're getting some breaking news from the United States.
00:04Zohran Mamdani takes lead in the New York City mayoral polls.
00:08New Yorkers vote to choose next mayor.
00:11Mamdani, clear favorite in the three-way New York race.
00:15And Mamdani to be New York City's first Muslim mayor, time shall tell that.
00:21But Donald Trump backs ex-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
00:25But what we're learning is that Zohran Mamdani is taking the lead in the mayoral polls in New York.
00:33And he is the clear favorite of the New Yorkers in this three-way New York race.
00:38And it is also pertinent to note that U.S. President Donald Trump is backing the ex-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
00:45In fact, he also had threatened and warned New Yorkers that if they choose Mamdani as their mayor,
00:52then there will be a federal fund cut.
00:55But that does not seem to be making any impact as we're learning that Mamdani is the clear favorite in the New York mayor race.
01:06Those New Yorkers, I look forward to fighting for every single dollar this city is owed.
01:11What we see in the language of Donald Trump is a premise as if it is his decision
01:17on whether or not to fund a city the very money that this city is owed.
01:21And I look forward to utilizing every single tool at my disposal as the next mayor of this city to fight for the people of it.
01:28That means using the courts. That means using the bully pulpit.
01:31That means ensuring that we actually follow the letter of the law.
01:34And I know that doing so is something that threatens Donald Trump.
01:37It's why he's gone after Attorney General James, because she had the audacity to hold him to the same law that every New Yorker is held to.
01:43But I will not be intimidated by this president.
01:45I will not be intimidated by anyone, because my job here is to serve the people of the city.
01:49Thank you guys so much.
01:50President Trump says he plans to reduce federal funding if you win.
01:54What are your thoughts on that?
01:56President Trump also encouraged every New Yorker to vote for Andrew Cuomo.
02:00There are many things that he will say and that he will do that will not actually bear out in the results within our own city.
02:06I will treat his threats as they deserve to be treated, which are the words of a president and not necessarily the law of the land.
02:14And too often we treat anything that he says by virtue of who's saying it as if it is already that law.
02:18And it is time that we have a mayor who stands up for New Yorkers each and every day, not one who's willing to sacrifice those New Yorkers so that they can stand up for themselves.
02:27All right, last question right here.
02:29Go ahead.
02:29Donald Trump just put out a statement encouraging New Yorkers, saying they must vote for Andrew Cuomo.
02:42We know and have known for months that Donald Trump would favor Andrew Cuomo as the mayor.
02:51They share the same donors.
02:52They share the same small vision.
02:55They share the same sense of impunity.
02:57And yet in these final days, what was rumored, what was feared has become naked and unabashed.
03:05The MAGA movement's embrace of Andrew Cuomo is reflective of Donald Trump's understanding that this would be the best mayor for him.
03:14Not the best mayor for New York City, not the best mayor for New Yorkers, but the best mayor for Donald Trump as his administration.
03:22And my colleague Rohit Sharma is now joining us from Washington, D.C.
03:27Rohit, despite Donald Trump's backing, Andrew Cuomo, we're learning that Mamdani is the clear favorite in the three-way New York City mayoral race.
03:36He is, you know, I mean, look, there won't be any surprises, you know, that he's going to win.
03:43He's been leading the polls since the summer.
03:45He defeated Andrew Cuomo in the primaries, forcing Andrew Cuomo to essentially run as an independent.
03:52And if he were to go by polls, he's going to win this.
03:56You know, the polls are still, the voting is still on and the polls close at 9 p.m.
04:01But he has maintained that steady lead and people in his campaign feel very confident that he's going to win.
04:08In fact, they're only waiting to see if he can cut the threshold above 51 percent to win this race.
04:14But the other big news here is, Ajali, is that Indian-American Ghazala Hashmi was just declared as winner of the lieutenant governor race in Virginia.
04:23She was born in Hyderabad.
04:25She's of Muslim origin also.
04:27I mean, not Muslim origin, Indian origin, is a practicing Muslim.
04:31And she also has just won in Virginia.
04:34And I think that's one of the biggest news that will create, get a lot of headlines.
04:37Because what we'll have tomorrow is we'll have two elected representatives in the U.S., one as a New York mayor, the other as a lieutenant governor here in Virginia, both, you know, who are Indian-American, both who are Muslims, winning the races at a time when minorities have been under attack in the U.S.
04:57So I think, you know, it's going to be a big, big deal for Democrats.
05:00The only pending question right now is New Jersey, where, from the look of it, it looks like Mickey Sherrill is leading right now.
05:09And that would mean that if all of these three races are won by the Democrats, this would mean the start of the blue wave and will probably have some trouble for Republicans, especially going into the midterms next year.
05:23So Zoran is going to win, is what polls are saying.
05:26I think Ghazala has won. And Mickey Sherrill, on the other hand, in New Jersey, could create history by winning in New Jersey as well.
05:34Right. Rohit, also help us understand what sets Zoran Mamdani apart from Andrew Cuomo.
05:42Well, look, I think Cuomo, you know, former governor of New York, old guard, old Democrats.
05:49I think New York has had this, you know, New Delhi kind of a feel.
05:52They want to give somebody new, somebody new a chance is what I think New Delhi did some couple of years ago, a decade ago.
05:58So I think New York has been similar in their approach.
06:02He's running on a socialist platform. He wants to give free trains.
06:05He wants to control rent. He wants to, you know, give a lot of freebies, which a lot of New Yorkers have gravitated towards.
06:11And he's not calling himself as a as a Democrat.
06:14He's more calling himself as a Democratic socialist.
06:16So his platform is offering a lot of freebies that New Yorkers essentially, you know, never thought that they would get in an expensive city like New York, where the energy prices are higher, inflation is high.
06:26There have been job cuts. So he's riding on the wave of these promises he's made that he can do that.
06:33And now he does have a limited budget, which is about one hundred and eighteen billion dollars.
06:36He has to manage it starting next year.
06:39But I think that's the message that has stuck with a lot of New Yorkers that, look, we have a guy who who's promising us all these things and they're giving him a chance to see if he can deliver.
06:49When you ask him about specifics, he obviously doesn't have those specifics out there, but he will get to is what he has told everybody.
06:56You know, Governor Cuomo, you know, in the back in the day, one of the biggest names in the Democratic Party was ousted due to a scandal and is trying to make a comeback.
07:09But looks I think the people have moved on.
07:12And I think that's definitely helping Zoran Mamdani in this race.
07:16Right. So Rohit mentioned that New York is on the path of New Delhi, what New Delhi did a decade ago, wanting change.
07:24And that is what is happening in New York as well.
07:28Rohit, do stay with us.
07:29So we'll keep an eye on the mayoral polls that are underway.
07:34And Zoran Mamdani seems to be the clear favorite.
07:37Andrew Cuomo, who is being backed by U.S. President Donald Trump himself, seems to be lagging behind.
07:44And Mamdani seems to be the favorite of the New Yorkers.
07:47The results are yet to be announced, but it seems like history is going to be scripted.
07:53Zoran Mamdani is going to be the New York City mayor.
07:58The results are yet to be announced.
08:01And now let us take a look at who is Zoran Mamdani.
08:05Now, he's a 33-year-old Muslim of South Asian heritage.
08:09He is the son of Indian filmmaker Meera Nair and Ugandan scholar Mahmood Mamdani.
08:14He's a Democratic candidate for the New York City mayor.
08:18And he was raised in New York since the age of seven.
08:22Now, he defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo in the mayoral primary.
08:26And he's married to Syrian artist Rama Dhuwaji.
08:30And right now, he is leading the mayoral race in the New York City.
08:36And Rohit Sharma continues to stay with us.
08:39Rohit, it does not really seem to be a very good news for the U.S. President Donald Trump,
08:44who has been backing Andrew Cuomo.
08:46In fact, we also saw him threatening and warning the New Yorkers to not back Mamdani,
08:54else there will be federal fund cuts.
08:56Well, so there are two sides of the story here, Anjali.
09:00The first is, you know, yes, he does not want Zoran Mamdani to win this race.
09:05He's endorsed Andrew Cuomo.
09:06Again, you know, a four-turn friend for President Trump.
09:10They were at each other in 2020 during COVID.
09:12You know, President Trump would come on air and he would, you know, give his speech.
09:16And then he would go back to Andrew Cuomo, who would then, you know,
09:19sought off, give a rebuttal to President Trump.
09:22And he didn't have a choice in the sense that Curtis Silver, the Republican candidate,
09:26was not polling well.
09:27So President Trump decided to endorse Cuomo almost one day before the election.
09:33But more importantly, I think, you know, the other side of the story,
09:37which I was trying to get to, is some people believe that President Trump is playing a 3D chess here.
09:42He actually wants Zoran Mamdani to win so that he could demonstrate to Americans
09:48that the socialist platform and the socialist democratic platform of the Democratic Party
09:53is not going to succeed.
09:55I think he wants this showdown with Zoran Mamdani.
09:58So that's another reason why he waited so long to endorse Andrew Cuomo just a day before the election,
10:05and that he would be able to use Zoran as a foil and go across the United States to say,
10:10look, if you want social state leaders like Zoran Mamdani, then you should vote for Democrats.
10:16If you want capitalism and if you want progress, you should vote for Republicans.
10:21So I think, you know, all in all, I think there are, you know, two theories out there
10:24that he either wants him to win or doesn't want him to win.
10:27But we'll have to wait and watch.
10:29I think what is going to be more concerning for President Donald Trump
10:33would not be the New York mayoral race.
10:35It would be what happens in New Jersey.
10:37Remember, this is a state, you know, that a lot of people thought would turn a Republican.
10:42We still don't have the entire results out.
10:43But from the looks of it, if New Jersey chooses a democratic governor today,
10:49that would break a record of last 55 years,
10:52because they've already had eight years of democratic governance in that state.
10:56And if history, you know, were to change itself,
10:59that would mean that people are moving away from some of the MAGA policies,
11:03and people are delivering a verdict on to some of the policies of this administration.
11:08So I think that would be a much of a worrying sign for President Trump and Republicans.
11:12New York race, I think, you know, either way, I think, you know, if Zohran wins,
11:17which he's going to win, he's just going to use that as in, you know,
11:20to demonstrate that his message is better than Zohran's.
11:23But I think worrying signs for Republicans across the nation,
11:28if New Jersey is not won by the Republicans.
11:30All right, Rohit, do stay with us.
11:32We're getting some more inputs on the story that we're tracking.
11:35Democrat Ghazala Hashmi has won the race for lieutenant governor of Virginia,
11:40becoming the first Muslim woman elected to statewide office in the U.S. history.
11:46So that's the breaking news that's coming in,
11:48that as Zohran Mandani leaves the New York City mayoral race,
11:52we're also learning that Democrat Ghazala Hashmi has won the race for lieutenant governor of Virginia,
11:57becoming the first Muslim woman elected to statewide office in U.S. history.
12:03India Today Global's Pranir Pader is now joining us with more details on this.
12:06Pranir, as Zohran Mandani leads the three-way race in New York City,
12:13we're learning that Democrat Ghazala Hashmi has won the race for the lieutenant governor of Virginia.
12:19Give us more details on this.
12:20Absolutely. Ghazala Hashmi, who was contesting for the Virginia left-in governor in the latest results,
12:30she has secured around 53.5 percent vote,
12:34and she has become the left-in governor for the state of Virginia.
12:38And this is a very significant development.
12:40At a time when we are tracking the New York mayoral election,
12:45and Zohran Mandani, who is set to become the first Muslim mayor of New York,
12:50and this is another significant development that the Virginia state has elected Ghazala Hashmi,
12:55the Muslim candidate from the state of Virginia for the left-in force of left-in governor,
13:01and which is like the number two position for the state.
13:05This is definitely an indicator that, you know, there is a shift,
13:11there is a well-wether moment in U.S. politics.
13:15And definitely President Donald Trump was already, you know,
13:18reacted to Zohran Mandani's election,
13:21and he is all expected to react to all these trends as well.
13:26But as Rohit was indicating, we are just ahead a few months from the midterm election,
13:32and President Donald Trump has already spoken on this thing.
13:35He might use these electoral results to create oppression for his own MAGA class
13:42to come out in big number, to push his own policies,
13:45and to bring certain more radical changes.
13:50Yes, Rohit Sharma also continues to stay with us from Washington, D.C.
13:54Rohit, as we were discussing, two elected representatives who are from the Indian heritage.
14:00One, of course, Zohran Mandani, who is set to become the New York City mayor.
14:05But on the other hand, Ghazala Hashmi has already won the race for lieutenant governor of Virginia.
14:10What does this signify as far as U.S. politics is concerned?
14:20I'm sorry, I was on mute there, Anjali.
14:22So, yeah, you know, we interviewed Ghazala Hashmi yesterday,
14:26and we aired that interview, or bites of those interviews.
14:30And I think she alluded to the fact that, you know,
14:32she moved to this country when she was very young.
14:35She was born in Hyderabad.
14:36You know, a Muslim, a lady, you know, a lot of people said gender plays a lot of role
14:41in politics in the U.S.
14:42And she said that she ran, you know, as an American.
14:47You know, she ran that her name was Ghazala Hashmi,
14:49and she wanted people to accept her, you know, for what she is.
14:52I mean, she was an educator.
14:53She was a senator in Virginia.
14:55And she mounted on this campaign at a time when people were questioning
14:58if women can even win, you know, the offices in America.
15:03So I think for Ghazala Hashmi, I think it is a very, very, you know, true American story.
15:08You know, you can come to the U.S.
15:09You can do everything right.
15:11You can fight an election.
15:13You know, you don't have to fear your ethnicity.
15:15You don't have to fear for your religion.
15:16And if you do everything right, you know, Americans will respect you.
15:20They will like you.
15:21And they will vote for you.
15:22And she becomes the first ever woman lieutenant governor of Virginia,
15:26which, again, is a very diverse state, a very big state.
15:30You know, one of those states that ultimately decides, you know,
15:33the course of next presidential elections, which will be held in 2028.
15:37So I think it's a very, very good story.
15:39You know, she has been very successful.
15:41She also talked about, you know, how this administration,
15:45the current administration has been marginalizing minorities
15:48and that her message to all Virginians was that she will stand up for all Virginians.
15:53So I think it's a very, you know, heartening story.
15:56And we have to wait and watch what the future has for us.
16:00But this is as big as, you know, Zoran Mamdani winning the NYC mural race.
16:05All right, Rohit, thank you so much for getting us all those details.
16:08We'll keep coming back to you for more updates on the New York City mural elections.
16:12As of now, we're getting some more breaking news.
16:14White House says Donald Trump and Narendra Modi trade talks on track.
16:27They speak frequently.
16:28This is what the White House has said about Trump-Modi trade talks that continue.
16:34So White House press secretary has said, and I quote,
16:37the trade team of Donald Trump continue to be in very serious discussions with India
16:41with respect to that topic.
16:44So I know the president has great respect for Prime Minister Modi
16:47and they speak pretty frequently.
16:50So this is what the White House press secretary has said about Modi-Trump trade talks.
16:56And the White House has claimed that the two leaders speak frequently
17:00and the trade talks are on track and we still continue.
17:05India Today Global's Pranir Paday continues to stay with us.
17:08Pranir, we're learning that the White House has said that the Modi-Trump talks are on track
17:15as far as the trade talks are concerned and that the two leaders speak frequently.
17:19Give us more details on this.
17:20There have been, you know, frequent and latest contacts between President Donald Trump
17:28and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
17:29They spoke about, you know, various issues including the bilateral trade agreement
17:33which was acknowledged by both the leaders as well
17:36and posted on their social media, you know, social media feeds.
17:40But Karen Levitt said that and she noted that President Donald Trump recently spoke
17:45with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Diwali celebration at the Oval Office
17:48where President Donald Trump was also joined by the senior Indian Americans
17:52and President Donald Trump is positive and feels very strongly about India-U.S. relation.
17:57This is what she said during her regular press interaction.
18:01And she also added that, you know, the Washington's ambassador to New Delhi, Sergio Gore,
18:06is, you know, working hard for this thing
18:08and he is contributing a lot as far as the building of this relationship is concerned
18:15and also the trade agreement is concerned.
18:17We are waiting, there have been rounds of negotiation between India and United States
18:22and we are yet to see the actual fruit of those negotiations
18:27because India and United States are close to signing off, to closing this deal.
18:34But we are yet to see that what will be the shape of this deal
18:37because there are certain, you know, some, you know, some sticking points
18:42as far as this trade deal is concerned and those differences need to be ironed out
18:48and both sides were working for that.
18:50United States first imposed around 25% tariffs on Indian goods on July 30th
18:56and a week later, it was turned into additional 25%
19:01and citing New Delhi's continued purchase of the Russian oil.
19:04Now, with the United States, you know, sanctioning Rosanev and Luco Oil,
19:10two of the Russian oil majors.
19:13After that, India's oil purchase from Russia has started decreasing
19:19and it is going down.
19:21So, we have to see that what it impacts
19:25and how the United States closes the deal with India
19:28as far as the trade agreement is concerned.
19:30All right, Pranay, thank you so much for getting us all those details
19:33and for that context.
19:34As of now, we're shifting focus.
19:35We're getting some more breaking news.
19:36Cargo plane crashes in Kentucky.

20:35that there will be at least three people who've been confirmed dead.
20:38Governor Andy Boucher has said there could be more casualties
20:41and he's asking for prayers.
20:43And we do not know exactly what's the reason for this crash,
20:47but the Louisville Fire Department has said
20:49that the firework fighters are still working on the scene
20:52and they're trying to contain the fire.
20:55Unfortunately, very unfortunate that we know that at least three people are dead
21:01and there are more crew members about which we will probably get to know soon.
21:06But as of now, three casualties have been confirmed, Anjali.
21:10All right, Rohit, thank you for getting us all those details
21:13on this horrific crash being reported from Kentucky in the United States.
21:17The visuals are on your screens right now
21:18and unfortunately, three people have been killed in this plane crash in Kentucky.
