00:00Noong nilikha ang oblation,
00:04dinidibati pa ang kinabukasan ng bayan.
00:07May mga moderno tulad ng Tolentino.
00:10Kaya sinubukan niyang gumawa ng ribulto ng Pilipino
00:14na walang mali siyang nakalantad ang pagkalalaki.
00:17Hindi nga lang nakalampas sa mga konserbatibo.
00:21Pumunta ako sa National Museum sa Maynila
00:31para mas kilalanin si Guillermo Tolentino.
00:36So, here in the National Museum,
00:39we take pride of our national artists here in the Philippines,
00:44especially here in the National Museum of Fine Arts.
00:46We take pride in preserving
00:49and also making sure na nakikita ng mga tao.
00:54So, we have rooms specifically made for Amorzolo
00:58and also hindi mawawala in terms of sculpture,
01:01si Tolentino as a national artist for sculpture.
01:05And dito natin makikita yung sari-saring talents niya.
01:10Obviously, alam natin na mahusay siyang sculptor,
01:13pero ang pagkakilala sa kanya ng marami siguro
01:16ay dahil sa oblation.
01:17Pero ito, ang karamihan dito ay mga busts.
01:20Yes, yes.
01:21So, bakit siya gumawa ng maraming busts?
01:24So, he does a lot of busts.
01:27Kasi most of these images,
01:30ano siya eh,
01:31of major political figures,
01:33of major figures throughout history.
01:36So, we have images of Rizal and also Bonifacio.
01:39Lumaki sa Malolos Bulacan si Guillermo Tolentino
01:44bago pa man siya mag-aral ng sining sa Maynila,
01:47Amerika at Europa.
01:49He started at a very young age.
01:51He would go through sa mga rivers
01:54and he would play with the clay,
01:56mga lupa na nakuha niya sa tabi ng ilog.
02:00And he would sculpt doon.
02:02Tapos, when he moved here in Manila,
02:05nag-aral siya sa Manila High School.
02:08And even during his time at the Manila High School,
02:12he would also attend art classes.
02:15I worked with the National Gallery Singapore.
02:18Sumikat si Tolentino sa paglililok.
02:21Pero, siya rin pala ang lumikha
02:23ng kilalang illustration na ito.
02:25So, actually, itong specific image na to,
02:29kinuha niya yung different images
02:31ng mga heroes and mga important figures na to.
02:36And he made this drawing.
02:38So, initially it's a drawing,
02:40but later on translated into a lithograph
02:43para mapublish sa Liwayway under Severino Reyes.
02:48Yung magazine.
02:51If you think about
02:52Philippine art history and sculpture,
02:55una mong maiisip talaga
02:57is Guillermo Tolentino
02:59since siya yung isa sa mga naging pillars
03:01when it comes to art history here in the Philippines.
03:05For an actual art.
03:08Madalas, sa sining inilalabas
03:10ang hinaiing ng mga tao.
03:18Kaya naman, hindi nakapagtataka
03:20na inspirasyon pa rin ang oblation mula noon
03:26Hanggang nayon.
