00:00Will it end tonight?
00:04Game six, Rogers Center, north of the border.
00:06Bo Bichette and the Blue Jays up three games to two after shocking
00:10the sports world by going into LA and taking two of three.
00:14John, I'm just wondering if you can remember what you were doing last year on Halloween?
00:19Sitting at my neighbor's driveway drinking a beer and giving out candy.
00:25So this is way, way better.
00:28Or will the resilient Los Angeles Dodgers break the hearts of the likes of Vladdy Guerrero Jr.?
00:34I think elimination games, which we've had a lot of experience with, is all mindset.
00:39I really do.
00:40It's fight or flight.
00:41It's whatever adage or saying you want to kind of come, leave it all out there.
00:46But also you got to be able to play loose and play the game.
00:49You're down a game going into a game six.
00:51You've been on this stage before.
00:53What's probably the biggest thing that those guys can do going into this game?
00:56I think just be themselves.
00:58Watched the workout yesterday.
00:59Doc was out there with the boys.
01:01I was supposed to start even and go first to third.
01:15This is what we needed.
01:16Certainly, tension, trying too hard doesn't translate into success at the bat.
01:22We just need to go out there and compete.
01:28It's the eighth time that they enter game six down three to two.
01:32They're trying to win game six from that position for the first time to force a seventh decisive
01:38game tomorrow night.
01:39And John, it was overshadowed by how good Yamamoto was in game two.
01:42But Kevin Gaussman, he retired 17 straight at one point in that game, pitched into the seventh inning for the first time in his postseason career.
01:50He was fantastic and he came out of the chute throwing a lot of fastballs.
01:54I would expect that that might be changed just a little bit for consecutive splitters to start this game.
01:59And when you talk about do you go with what you got, do you change things up, he really only throws two pitches.
02:04That was two pitches, two, two, and he strikes out on time in the start game six.
02:09One away, Will Smith, where he's sticking with the splitter, back-to-back K's two out of the first.
02:16Well, the best part about that pitch is he made the adjustment to the other side of the plate.
02:20The pitch in, the slider that goes, the splitter that goes down and in, he fouls it, right, gets out in front.
02:26Now you need to show him something on the other side, and he did.
02:29And look how far he missed it.
02:31After the 15 strikeouts in game five, two of them to start game six.
02:36He got him!
02:38Kevin Gosman skips off the hill.
02:41He just punched out the side in the top of the first.
02:44The Dodgers, the defending champion on the brink of elimination, but think about this.
02:48If I told you you could pick any pitcher in all of baseball to start a game like this with your season on the line, who are you picking?
02:55I'm going with the hottest pitcher in Yamamoto, and he has been unbelievable in the postseason.
02:59Drilled in the knee in the championship series.
03:02Came back from that.
03:03Walks off of the field in game three.
03:05You're thinking there's no chance to see this guy again this year.
03:08Springer's back in there for game six.
03:12Reaches out, rolls it to short, and Luki does.
03:15What a roll.
03:16One out, nobody on.
03:17No score in the first.
03:18Left-handed hitting Nathan Lucas.
03:19Lucas punches one to three and gets under Muncie's draw.
03:25And the gap between these teams defensively gets through customs from L.A. to Toronto.
03:31One on, one out, Vlad Guerrero Jr.
03:34Now you have traffic for the Blue Jays MVP.
03:37Ground ball to third, Muncie without a chance.
03:40This time he starts at double play.
03:435-4-3 double play to get Yamamoto out of the first inning.
03:47Dodger offense a topic of national conversation the last couple days.
03:51If you look at the production of the lineup, Otani has obviously been great.
03:55I mean he got on nine times in one game.
03:57And Teoscar Hernandez has produced in the World Series.
04:00But they're looking for more outside of those two.
04:02Teoscar Hernandez had a couple of infield hits in game five.
04:05Two of the three total for the Dodgers.
04:07Who's averaging this World Series has dipped below the Mendoza line.
04:11Below 200.
04:12No team has won a World Series with a sub 200 average since the 1962 Yankees.
04:18And another splitter for a fourth strikeout.
04:21In this game nobody on the Dodgers is the ability or willingness to move up in the box.
04:27And by moving up in the box you're going to catch that splitter at a higher spot in the strike zone.
04:33But everyone is always used to just digging in their spot.
04:36No change.
04:37No change in swings.
04:38And when a guy is on you're going to see the evidence of it.
04:41Swing and a miss.
04:42Five K's.
04:44Gossman's splitter unhittable through two.
04:47No score.
04:48Middle of his second in downtown Toronto.
04:51Kevin Gossman is dictating the term so far in game number six mole.
04:55He is retired six in a row.
04:57He has struck out five of those first six Dodgers.
05:00Three.
05:01Strike line in the outside corner.
05:03Adam Hamari gives him an inch there.
05:05Yeah.
05:06And now you look at the splitters in this series the Dodgers are one for 27.
05:11Something's got to change.
05:12He can't keep swinging at the same pitch over and over.
05:15Tommy Edmonds down the line.
05:16And the first base runner for the Dodgers will be Tommy Edmonds.
05:20The extra bases here in the third.
05:22They might not make any contact tonight in that whack.
05:28Well Edmonds in the heck with it.
05:30And it almost caught Guerrero by surprise that ball was hit so firm.
05:40Looked like he did not get to the peak of his jump.
05:45And so the guy that Dave Roberts plugs into the lineup finds himself up there with a man in scoring position.
05:51Palm strike three.
05:52Ninety five at the knees.
05:54Two down.
05:55And now John Schneider has a decision to make.
05:58I'm assuming it's an easy one with that open bag.
06:00It's at first base.
06:02But we'll see what he does.
06:03Hasn't stuck out the four fingers yet.
06:05And now he will.
06:07There's some boos but a lot of fans here are clapping.
06:10And I just don't know how you could justify pitching to that guy.
06:14It has nothing to do with Will Smith who is a really good hitter.
06:18Shohei Otani is essentially an alien.
06:20Who has been dropped here to dominate baseball.
06:23So first and second.
06:24And it's up to Will Smith.
06:25I'm going to keep betting on Mookie hitting behind Shohei.
06:28And if they keep giving him opportunities I know he's going to come through.
06:31And then with Will and Mookie I just felt that that's just.
06:34I wanted to give these guys a different look.
06:36I think Will to be quite frank is swinging the bat better.
06:39Dodgers do not have a hit with a runner in scoring position since the fifth inning of game three.
06:45Is it Smith hooked down the left field line towards the corner.
06:50It is a fair ball.
06:53Will Smith delivers a two out double.
06:56Tommy Edmonds in the score.
06:58The Dodgers are on the board first in game six.
07:01In an opening statement made from the Dodgers in game six.
07:04They stayed back on a breaking ball.
07:06So if you look at this lineup.
07:08A lot of changes including Will Smith moving to number two spot hitting behind Ohtani.
07:14That was fair.
07:15Moe by maybe a couple of feet.
07:18Bounce just in front of the wall right of the foul line.
07:22Enough to give the Dodgers the first run of the game.
07:25Takes ball four to load the bases.
07:28And how about this.
07:29Mookie Betts comes up with the bases loaded.
07:33First walk at this game issued by Kevin Gossman.
07:37And Mookie Betts.
07:38We talk about it coming into the World Series.
07:40A lot of things are going to funnel to him with him hitting second.
07:43The way that they've handled Shohei Ohtani well.
07:46And the cleanup spot things are designed to funnel to you.
07:49They're all for their last 13 with the bases loaded.
07:51And Betts in the postseason has left 24 men on base.
07:55I've just been terrible.
07:56I wish it was from lack of effort.
07:58I really do.
07:59But it's not.
08:00So I don't have any answers.
08:01Dave Roberts said to him yesterday.
08:03Hey.
08:04Drop it off.
08:05Drop the baggage.
08:06Go be good.
08:07For one game.
08:08Bases loaded.
08:09Two gone.
08:10Third inning.
08:11Base into the field.
08:13Ohtani's in to score.
08:15Here comes Will Smith.
08:16Throw to the plates.
08:17Not in time.
08:18Betts breaks through.
08:20And so to the Dodgers.
08:23Oh an exhale.
08:24And the monkey off his bat.
08:26The Dodgers lead Gaussman and the Blue Jays lead to nothing.
08:29Well you can credit also with the confidence that Dave Roberts had.
08:33In watching Mookie Betts batting practice yesterday.
08:36Talking to him.
08:37Where is he from a mental standpoint?
08:39Is he ready to accept that big battle being in the number four spot of the lineup?
08:43Will he answer?
08:44Yes to this point.
08:45And for the Dodgers here in the third inning.
08:46This is a wonderful start.
08:47But fellas.
08:48Don't let your foot off the accelerator.
08:50I mean that's two big runs for the Los Angeles Dodgers like we talked about earlier with Yamamoto on the mound.
08:57It's going to be tough to come back and score three runs against him.
09:01He looks like he's pretty locked in in this ball game.
09:04And he got him.
09:05Eight K's for Gaussman.
09:06But the Dodgers strike for three in the third.
09:10Here John is where there's just no breaks in this line.
09:13If you're down to seven eight and nine and you're facing a guy who's hitting above 400 over his last ten games.
09:18Actually that was a great pitch and just a better job hitting after a slow curveball.
09:36He beats him with the fastball.
09:38But just inside the line.
09:40Fastball up he goes with it.
09:42Keeps his head down.
09:43Takes a while to recognize where that ball is.
09:46And then this is an important run for the Blue Jays against a pitcher who doesn't give up many.
09:52They've got to crawl their way back into the game.
09:55And he puts him away on three pitches.
09:57Got him with a splitter as he swung and missed for Yamamoto's second K of the game.
10:03What makes this guy so tough man.
10:05That was a ninety two mile an hour splitter.
10:09That just on the outside part of the plate.
10:13He's thrown that splitter more than ever in the two complete games here in the postseason.
10:17Milwaukee went 0 for 12 against it.
10:19The Jays went 0 for six.
10:21Throws another splitter.
10:23That's second.
10:24Rojas.
10:25To get him in.
10:26So the third goes Barger.
10:27After the plate comes Springer.
10:29George Springer did have a double against Yoshinobu Yamamoto in game two.
10:33He's up now two outs and a runner on third.
10:35Game six of the World Series.
10:36Dodgers just got three scratching across even one.
10:40Would feel like a big win for the Blue Jays to punch back.
10:42Barger in third two out.
10:43Two out.
10:44Checks.
10:45Ball three.
10:46And he can't afford to check swing.
10:47You see him right there.
10:48And watch this.
10:49He just right away grimaces.
10:50Yamamoto falling behind him 3 and 0.
10:51Who knows if he can swing his best.
10:52He sets one to right center field.
10:53My goodness.
10:54George Springer gets the Jays on the board through biting pain.
10:56Barger will come in to score.
10:57And how about George Springer.
10:58All they needed is one swing and that was a good one right there.
11:22And you made a great point about momentum.
11:26That's a huge run for the Blue
11:33Jays and a validation for
11:36spring.
11:37Both teams breaking through here
11:39in the third.
11:39All right guys Alejandro Kirk
11:41leading off this fifth for the
11:42Blue Jays when you're thinking
11:43about OK winning this game they
11:46got to knock Yamamoto out of the
11:47game and the only way to do that
11:49is get the pitch count up and
11:50obviously create some stress and
11:52force a decision by Dave
11:54Roberts.
11:54Long at bat here for Kirk.
11:56Again he's one of the best at
11:59extending at bats no matter who
12:00he's facing.
12:02Got him tied him up with that
12:04splitter for strike three but it
12:05took him nine pitches one go on in
12:08the fifth.
12:09Another fastball to strike him out
12:11and yeah the fastball looks like
12:13it's surprising Barger the reason
12:14is he's only throwing it 20 percent
12:17of the time.
12:18He just pitched backwards right
12:19there and it was perfect timing
12:21three one fastball on the corner
12:24down six pitches and he can hit a
12:28flea with any one of them like a
12:30video game set on easy the way he
12:32controls fastball got it up the
12:34middle Mookie Betts makes an air
12:36second of the game in the Dodgers.
12:38I don't think you were I think I
12:40don't think you would have thrown
12:41him out as great as Mookie is
12:42and it is a hit.
12:43Yeah I don't think he could have
12:44thrown him out Mookie's made
12:45every play so far this one just
12:47catches this thumb or not an air
12:49but a play that's so he would like
12:51to be able to make and now fly to
12:53center field Tommy Edmonds going
12:55back and no worse for the wear.
12:57It's Oscar Hernandez has had no
12:58chance against Kevin Gosman.
12:59Fires 2 2 Hernandez digs out a
13:01spinner rolls it to short him the
13:03first one two three six ten in a
13:05row set down by Kevin Gosman.
13:06George Springer bounces the first
13:08pitch of the sixth inning the
13:09Mookie Betts in one pitch one out
13:10for Yamamoto with his quest the
13:11Dodgers to game seven.
13:25We'd love to take down this entire
13:27game and in this World Series 14
13:29and in this World Series 14 and a
13:31third 13 strikeouts has not walked
13:33anybody.
13:35It's unbelievable.
13:36Luke is trying to coax the first
13:37walk out of him instead of fly to
13:39center field routine for Tommy
13:41Edmund getting his first start of
13:42the postseason out there two out
13:45and up comes Vlad jr.
13:47Over two in this game but it's
13:48been one of the great postseasons
13:50that we have ever seen.
13:52Hooked to left field on the run
13:54Hernandez.
13:55Kiko Hernandez won't get there.
13:57Extra bases for glad jr.
13:59Two out double.
14:01What a month.
14:03What a play.
14:04Even though he's going to one
14:05hand this he stays back on the
14:07curveball and he can hit this.
14:10Look at that one hand but he
14:12stays back so that the barrel of
14:14the bat still has enough hope to
14:16smoke this down the left field
14:18line hook it away from Hernandez.
14:20Vlad said at the start of the
14:22postseason he wanted to win a
14:23World Series and then give the
14:25ring to his dad.
14:26Well talking to people around the
14:27Blue Jays that wasn't just
14:29something that he said was a
14:30good quote.
14:31That is a genuine deep
14:33motivation of his.
14:343 1 Dodgers last run was scored
14:36by the Blue Jays in the bottom
14:38of the third.
14:39Here comes Yamamoto.
14:40Ball four.
14:41Time run aboard and the go ahead
14:42run coming up.
14:43The first walk in 15 innings in
14:44this World Series.
14:46Table set for Dalton Marshall.
14:48Who is 0 for 2 grounded into a
14:49double play his last time up.
14:50The 1 2 pitch.
14:51He struck him out.
14:52Yoshinobu Yamamoto executes his
15:04trademark pitch.
15:05Gets his sixth strike out of the
15:07game to finish the sixth inning.
15:09Robleski takes over in a 3 1 game.
15:11Does the bullpen have nine outs
15:13in it tonight.
15:14There's a Baltimore chop it on
15:15first.
15:16Back up.
15:17Rojas got him.
15:18Oh Miguel Rojas do or die play
15:21for out number two of the seven.
15:24That's the only way he could have
15:27got him.
15:28You watch it and look it in and
15:29you don't care what grip you've
15:30got.
15:31That's the only chance he had on
15:32that high chopper.
15:34He was a shot to left center
15:36field.
15:37Hernandez will not get there.
15:39That's the basis for Ernie
15:41Clement.
15:42Second hit of the ball game.
15:44Two out double.
15:45Again the time run coming up.
15:47Ernie Clement now up to 27 hits
15:50this postseason.
15:51The Dodgers have been commenting
15:53most of the night.
15:54They both were names and Edmund
15:57are playing very shallow in the
15:59outfield.
16:00Andre Semenes the left handed
16:01batters coming up.
16:03John Schneider has been very
16:04aggressive pinch hitting and
16:06subbing guys in this World
16:07Series.
16:08He's got four right handed bats
16:09on his bench but it's like he's
16:11going to let him in as here.
16:12Life comes at you fast if you're
16:14Justin Robleski out of the
16:16picture until the World Series.
16:17Now the highest of leverage.
16:20Desperate times call for guys out
16:22of the nowhere out of the middle
16:23of nowhere.
16:24Dodgers playing with their backs
16:26all the way against the wall.
16:28It's win or go home.
16:30He struck him out.
16:32Put him down with the heat.
16:3498 dotted on the outside corner.
16:37And Jimenez takes a whiff.
16:40So far tonight.
16:41Ohtani is 0 for 2.
16:43An intentional walk and a run
16:44scored in the Dodgers three run
16:46third inning.
16:47Ohtani pops it up center field
16:50carries well on the run is
16:52a heck of a lot more than a pop
16:54up.
16:55Mere mortals would have just popped
16:56it up but Ohtani off balance
16:58off the end of the bat golfs it
17:01to the wall for a double.
17:02So how strong he is and this is
17:04what happens if he can stay on
17:05the ball.
17:06You see even though his body was
17:08going towards first his hands
17:10were back and that's the same
17:11thing we talked about earlier
17:14when Guerrero did it from the
17:15right side.
17:16The ball jumps off his bat.
17:17There's no doubt about it.
17:18He has extreme exit velocity.
17:21Blue Jays are actually going to
17:23intentionally walk Will Smith
17:25to get the left on left match
17:26up with Freddie Freeman.
17:27A couple things you get with
17:28his intentional walk you set up
17:29a double play and that counts
17:31as a batter toward the three
17:33batter minimum.
17:34So now after Freeman the Blue
17:35Jays can go to a righty if
17:36they want to.
17:37For a guy like Te Oscar Hernandez
17:39or Mookie Betts.
17:40First base runner for the
17:41Dodgers since the third.
17:43These are the only base runners
17:45outside the third.
17:46It's a towering fly ball to
17:48right field but not particularly
17:50deep.
17:51Barger comes on.
17:52Makes the catch.
17:53Ohtani won't even bother with
17:55his cannon.
17:56Massive outing right now for
17:57Sir Anthony Dominguez.
17:58Two on and two out.
18:00It's runners on first and
18:01second for the Dodgers.
18:02Ohtani on second.
18:03Smith on first.
18:04And Mookie Betts who's up a 3-1
18:07Dodger lead.
18:08There they go.
18:09Here it comes.
18:10Mookie Betts.
18:11Takes ball four to load him up.
18:12Just missed upstairs.
18:14You have to get down to business
18:15here if you're Sir Anthony
18:16Dominguez.
18:17The bases are loaded.
18:18And a tough hitter.
18:19And Te Oscar Hernandez is at the
18:21plate.
18:23And gets out of the bases hold
18:24of James.
18:25Twenty three year old rookie
18:26closer Roki Sasaki for the top
18:28of the order in the eight.
18:30Chopping a ball down the line.
18:32And sneaking it into right
18:33field.
18:34Paez hustles to the ball to hold
18:36him to a single.
18:37He says I don't know but it'll
18:39do.
18:40And the time run comes up.
18:42I mean this is an emergency
18:46hack.
18:47And a great one if the Blue Jays
18:49score in this inning.
18:51Just by Freddie Freeman.
18:53There's no way you can play him
18:56close to the line there in that
18:57situation.
18:58His fastball could be a hundred
18:59a hundred and one but it can
19:01also be a little erratic.
19:02That split finger is the pitch
19:03he goes to a lot.
19:05Question is if he doesn't have
19:07it.
19:08Where does Dave Roberts go.
19:10The payoff to Lucas.
19:12In the air to center field for
19:14Tommy Edmund.
19:18One gone in the eighth.
19:19Yeah Lucas obviously wanted to
19:21get a hit but.
19:23Worst case scenario.
19:25Stone hit it on the ground.
19:27Guarantee that Guerrero has a
19:29chance for one big swing.
19:30It is at the bottom of the
19:32zone he got squeezed.
19:34Adam Hammery with a whiff.
19:38Gives Guerrero Junior an extra
19:40light.
19:41That's a strike.
19:42Here's a payoff pitch.
19:43Guerrero.
19:44Takes both three.
19:45And runs his way down to
19:47first.
19:49The time run reaches.
19:51The go ahead run comes up.
19:53In the form of Bo Bichette.
19:57Pop fly.
19:58That's ranges over there.
19:59Does he have him.
20:01He does to get Bichette for
20:03out number two of the eight.
20:07It's up to Dalton Varshow.
20:10Found themselves a closer here
20:11for the postseason.
20:13He's so young.
20:14He's so new to this role.
20:16That trust is fickle.
20:17For over the second.
20:18The Rojas gloves.
20:19Over the first.
20:20That's the only three outs in the
20:22eighth inning.
20:24Rocky Sasaki.
20:26He bent but he did not break.
20:29Dave Roberts holding his breath.
20:30Hoping that his bullpen can get
20:31through this.
20:33Yamamoto hoping that his fellow
20:34countrymen can get through the
20:36bottom of the order here.
20:37Kirk Roger and Clement coming up.
20:40And what a series this has been.
20:42What a tight intense game six
20:43it's been.
20:45Two strike pitch.
20:47And he hit him.
20:49Plunked him with a splitter.
20:51And Alejandro Kirk goes down to
20:52first.
20:53You imagine Dave Roberts will
20:54check and see if it hit the
20:55bat.
20:56There was an odd noise but I
20:57think it was the sound of
20:58plastic or bone.
21:00Splitter that gets away.
21:02And catches him right on that
21:04side of his hand.
21:06And now Kirk's going to leave the
21:08game in favor of Myles Straw.
21:10And Kirk is not the tying run
21:12obviously but you still want a
21:14faster runner in there to maybe
21:16break up a double play or beat a
21:18force play at second whatever
21:19the case may be.
21:21And now the batter will be
21:22Addison Barger with Straw at
21:24first.
21:25Barger's the tying run.
21:27This is the 46th game of these
21:29playoffs.
21:30There has not been a ninth inning
21:32comeback.
21:34One deep center field.
21:35Dino the run.
21:36Justin.
21:37Get there.
21:38It wedges in the bottom of the
21:39wall.
21:40And it's a dead ball.
21:42It's a dead ball.
21:43The umpires hands are up.
21:45And the runners will hit the
21:46second and third.
21:49It'll be second and third.
21:50Nobody out.
21:52A little unfortunate for the
21:53Blue Jays that that ball wedged
21:54right there.
21:55That heads up play by Justin
21:56Dean to throw his hands up
21:57because as soon as he reaches in
21:59there to play it they lose the
22:01right for that to be a dead
22:02ball.
22:04And Dave Roberts is making the
22:06move.
22:08Sasaki is out.
22:09Dave Roberts is going to the guy
22:10that everybody figured would
22:11feature into game seven as the
22:13starter.
22:14Tyler Glass now trying to get it
22:16there.
22:17Ernie Clement coming up.
22:18Barger is the tying run in this
22:20game.
22:21And Miles draws on third ahead of
22:23him.
22:24Ernie Clement is the World Series
22:25winning run against Tyler
22:27Glass now who comes in here to
22:30pitch in relief.
22:32First pitch swinging little flair
22:33right side of the infield right
22:34at Freddie Freeman one pitch one
22:35out for glass now one gone in
22:37the ninth inning the runners
22:38hole.
22:39It's always been a terrific first
22:40pitch hitter.
22:42Groszdown makes a great pitch on
22:45him.
22:46Now the number nine hitter left
22:48handed hitter Andreas Jimenez
22:50George Springer is on deck.
22:53The Dodgers two outs from game
22:55seven.
22:56The Blue Jays one swing from the
22:59World Championship.
23:00Jimenez floats on left field
23:02Hernandez makes the catch back
23:04to second game seven tomorrow
23:08night.
23:09It's a game ending double play
23:11Quique Hernandez to Miguel Rojas.
23:15The Blue Jays will challenge to
23:18try and keep this alive.
23:20Jimenez flips it into left field
23:21Hernandez charging he makes the
23:22catch the throwback to second
23:24here's a play the tag he's out
23:27Quique Hernandez to Miguel Rojas
23:30and the ball game is over and
23:34that is how the game will come to
23:36an end by the narrowest of
23:38margins the Blue Jays had second
23:40and third and nobody out.
23:43Tomorrow supposed starting
23:44pitcher Tyler Glass now comes on
23:47and just like that he's out of it
23:50and baseball moves to November
23:53unreal.
23:55What a game.
23:56What a series.
23:57What a season of baseball.
23:59baseball.
24:00The two best words in sports folks
24:03game seven.
24:04seven.
