00:00Oh my! That is a no-no.
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo. And today, we're examining the most shocking times in history when characters
00:12in TV shows were killed off during a season premiere. To make the list, the character can't
00:18perish in the first ever episode. Instead, it has to take place after season one, but
00:23we'll make an exception for spinoff shows and sequel series. Beware of potential spoilers.
00:28Once Raider, you've been called the king beyond the war. Westeros only has one king. Bend
00:35the knee, I promise you mercy.
00:39Monica Beltran, Grey's Anatomy
00:41Following on from the season 21 cliffhanger with an explosion being set off after a hostage
00:46situation at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Grey's Anatomy kicked off with the devastation
00:51across the operating room floors.
00:53Let's go! Let me go!
00:56Come on! Hustle! Hustle! Hustle!
00:59Hey!
01:01Sir, you can't answer!
01:02You need to evacuate! You need to evacuate now!
01:05You need to evacuate now!
01:07While Atticus Lincoln was severely injured and seemed likely to pass away, Beltran looked
01:12okay, beyond the shattered pelvis she mentioned as she dictated the surgery to others. However,
01:18while Link recovered, the same couldn't be said for Beltran, as she succumbed to her injuries.
01:23Wake up!
01:24You need to wake up, you need to wake up! Come on! Come on!
01:29This isn't the only time Grey's Anatomy has shocked fans with a death in the opening season
01:33episode. Back in season 9, following a plane crash and another season-ending cliffhanger,
01:39Mark Sloan didn't recover from his coma and passed away.
01:42A lifetime of memories, photos, trinkets.
01:47Oh! I got it!
01:50Things to remember us by, even when we're gone.
01:54John Preston, a.k.a. Mr. Big.
02:02And just like that.
02:03Even from the days of Candace Bushnell's column in the New York Observer, Big was there.
02:08His will-they-won't-they romance with Carrie Bradshaw kept fans hooked during the Sex and
02:13the City days.
02:14Why wasn't it new?
02:16Carrie.
02:17No, seriously.
02:18I really need to hear you say it.
02:21So, with the star-crossed duo married in the follow-up show and just like that, all seemed
02:26good and secure.
02:27But then, while exercising on a Peloton bike, Big suffered a massive heart attack.
02:32Carrie just managed to return home to be there as he passed away.
02:36John!
02:37John.
02:39Oh, God.
02:40Oh, God, John.
02:42Oh, John.
02:44Fans were heartbroken.
02:46However, they were meant to see Big return kinda as a ghost for the season finale.
02:50However, due to actor Chris Noth being accused of misconduct, the scene was scrapped.
02:56And just like that, Big died.
03:02Mance Raider.
03:04Game of Thrones.
03:05By the end of Season 4 of Game of Thrones, Mance was captured by Stannis Baratheon's forces
03:10with aid from Jon Snow.
03:12While Stannis tried to get him to kneel before him to possibly be allowed to live, Mance wouldn't
03:17do that.
03:18After all, he united the Free Folk tribes, a task that appeared to be impossible and
03:23became known as the King Beyond the Wall.
03:26So kneeling wasn't likely.
03:28I wish you good fortune in the wars to come.
03:34By Season 5, with Mance refusing to grant Stannis' demand, even with Jon trying to convince
03:39him to change his stance, the Stoic leader is placed on a pyre, which is set ablaze.
03:55Struggling to watch the terrible execution, Jon gave Mance mercy by ending his life with
04:01an arrow.
04:03Eugene Pontecorvo, The Sopranos.
04:10After three seasons in The Sopranos crime family and a dreadful personal life, things
04:15look to be finally going upwards for Eugene.
04:18In Season 6's opening episode, he inherited $2 million and desired to retire from crime.
04:23He'd moved to Florida for Sun, Sea and Disney World, we assumed.
04:37However, Tony isn't receptive to the idea, instead pointing out how Eugene took an oath
04:42to the family.
04:54So he had to go and kill Teddy for Christopher.
04:57With Tony refusing to let him go and the FBI not letting Eugene stop working as an informant,
05:02he saw a few options.
05:04We've talked about Florida, okay?
05:06Gene, that's not gonna happen.
05:08Here, among your friends is where you're useful.
05:10I told you, you tell your bosses I come back for any trial.
05:13Florida's just one of those things you gotta let go.
05:15He sadly took his own life in a heart-wrenching scene and a bleak season opener.
05:20David Palmer and Michelle Dessler, 24.
05:24Beyond Jack Bauer, Palmer is perhaps the character who survived the most near-death incidents in
05:2924.
05:30Yet after rising from a Democrat candidate to US president to private citizen, time ran out
05:35for him in the first episode of Season 5.
05:38While discussing his memoir plans with his brother Wayne in a hotel, a sniper fatally shoots Palmer.
05:43One more chapter and we'll take a break.
05:46Why don't we jump down to, um, chapter 6?
05:48There's gonna be a lot of questions about your relationship with Sherry.
05:52The episode wasn't done with breaking our hearts.
05:55Shortly after, with Michelle and her husband, Tony Almeida, enjoying life away from the CTU,
06:01she planned to go and help her former employer following Palmer's assassination.
06:05However, as she got in her car, it exploded, taking her life.
06:09With a second explosive nearly taking Tony's too.
06:20Luke Reardon, Gen V.
06:22How do you grip the audience's attention in the first episode of a spin-off show?
06:26Well, the boy's offshoot, Gen V, did that super successfully with Luke, Golden Boy Reardon.
06:32While he was the top student at Godalkin University, something was amiss with Luke.
06:37As every so often, his behavior became questionable, such as what he did to his opponent in the arena.
06:42See what I mean? It's like a big, fire-icey cucumber.
06:47However, the biggest sign was when he fatally hugged Professor Brink, which Marie saw, causing Luke to go on a rampage.
06:57Oh, oh shit. Marie, I, I had to.
07:05With all his friends trying to stop him, Luke ran out of options.
07:09After a non-fiery hug with Andre, he took to the sky and exploded, becoming a vital plot point in the process.
07:28Zoe Barnes, House of Cards
07:30It started with Zoe blackmailing Frank Underwood after he was photographed checking her out at the opera
07:35before she became suspicious of his hand in Peter Russo's death in House of Cards.
07:40But before long, it would all come crashing down for her in a bleak fashion.
07:45I'm not here to punish you, or to tell you to stop. I just thought I should open those big, bright eyes.
07:55I think you should leave.
07:57In season two's opening, Zoe, after doubting Frank's involvement, agreed with him for a fresh start between the two rivals.
08:05However, she still wouldn't let the Russo story go completely.
08:08I have no idea what happened that night, except that Peter started drinking again.
08:13I don't know who was or wasn't there. I wish I was.
08:16With Frank looking to rise up in the political ladder further, he got his hands dirty once again.
08:21While meeting at a train station, where she continued questioning him,
08:25he suddenly and brutally pushed Zoe in front of a moving locomotive, ending her life.
08:35John Winchester, Supernatural
08:38With John's disappearance being the catalyst for Sam and Dean reuniting,
08:42we were all delighted when he popped up in Supernatural.
08:45However, disaster struck when the Winchester family's beloved Impala was hit by a demon driving a truck
08:51in the cliffhanger Ender for season one.
08:54We'd have to start over, alright? I mean, we already found the demon.
09:04While Sam and John were okay, Dean was at death's door in the season two opener,
09:08as he was courted by Tessa the Reaper.
09:10So, John made a deal with Azazel, the yellow-eyed demon who killed his wife, Mary.
09:15Oh, I don't want to trap you.
09:22I want to make a deal.
09:27In exchange for Dean's life, Azazel wanted John's life, soul, and the cult,
09:32a firearm that can kill anything.
09:34With Dean's miraculous recovery, John checked in on his son's one final time
09:38before quietly agreeing to the deal, ending his life.
09:41I want you to watch out for Sammy, okay?
09:46Yeah, Dad, you know I will.
09:49You're scaring me.
09:52Don't be scared, Dean.
09:53You're scaring me.
09:54Chrissy Cunningham, Stranger Things
09:56She may have only appeared in the same episode where she perishes,
09:59but Chrissy was a vital cog in the Stranger Things machine.
10:02Debuting in season four's opening,
10:04Chrissy was the head cheerleader
10:06and was dating the captain of Hawkins High School's basketball team,
10:09seemingly having it all together.
10:11However, due to abuse at home,
10:13she was struggling with her mental health.
10:28It got worse when Chrissy began having disturbing hallucinations.
10:32At the end, while under a trance, Eddie tried to shake her from it,
10:35but in her mind, a creature of which we'd later discover was Vecna's debut,
10:39was tormenting her.
10:42It's time for your suffering to end.
10:51For Eddie, the confusion and horror of Chrissy's demise
10:53would stick with him and the audience for a long time.

11:22Glenn Rhee and Abraham Ford
11:26The Walking Dead
11:27Soon after appearing on the screen,
11:29Abraham and Glenn especially became fan favorites in The Walking Dead.
11:34After all, the latter had been there since the beginning,
11:37and we'd seen him grow into one of the group's most important characters
11:40in the survival against zombies and humans.
11:43As such, what happened to them in the Season 7 opener devastated the audience.
11:48Aene.
11:49Mene.
11:53Mene.
11:55Mene.
11:57Mo.
11:58After the previous cliffhanger hinted towards Negan taking a life brutally,
12:02it was haunting when he did just that to Glenn and Abraham
12:05with his baseball bat Lucille,
12:07as loved ones watched on helplessly.
12:09You can breathe.
12:10You can blink.
12:11You can cry.
12:12Hell.
12:13You're all about to be doing that.
12:14While the episode was well made,
12:15this double death was a catalyst in causing many viewers to stop watching,
12:16with the next episode dropping viewership by nearly 3.6 million.
12:18So, back to it.
