00:00President Donald Trump on Sunday said he will allow NVIDIA in Beijing to make deals on AI chips,
00:06but said he will not allow NVIDIA's most advanced semiconductors to be sold to China.
00:11This announcement follows earlier indications from Trump that he was open to discussing export
00:16controls on NVIDIA's leading Blackwell chips. In a 60 Minutes interview that aired on CBS on
00:23Sunday night, Trump was asked about China's interest in buying the world's most advanced
00:28semiconductors, especially NVIDIA's flagship Blackwell AI chips. Interviewer Norah O'Donnell asked
00:35Trump if he would allow NVIDIA to sell their most advanced chips to China, and the president replied,
00:40no, we won't do that. However, Trump said he will let Beijing deal with NVIDIA, noting that the
00:48American AI chip maker is the prime company in the world for that, and added, we will let them deal
00:55with NVIDIA, but not in terms of the most advanced. After the two leaders met face-to-face in South
01:01Korea, Trump told reporters that there were no talks about Blackwells. President Trump said, quote,
01:08we did discuss chips, and they are going to be talking to NVIDIA and others about taking chips,
01:13and we make great chips. The president added that he will have a word with NVIDIA CEO Jensen
01:19Wong and said further discussions will be between China and NVIDIA, with the U.S. serving as, quote,
01:25sort of the arbitrator or the referee. NVIDIA's shares rose 1.4% in pre-market trading early on
01:32Monday. Last week, NVIDIA became the first company to breach a $5 trillion market cap after Trump
01:38signaled he would be open to discussing export controls on NVIDIA's advanced chips aimed at China
01:44during his meeting with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping. During the Asia-Pacific Economic
01:50Cooperation Summit in South Korea, NVIDIA's CEO commented on the potential sale of Blackwell chips
01:56to China. He expressed hope for future sales, stating, quote, I think it's really good for
02:01America, and it's really good for China, that NVIDIA could participate in the Chinese market.
02:07He also indicated that the ultimate decision rests with Trump. For more on the story, check out the
